This place is garbage. Ordered a frame which was on back ordered. Gave me an estimate of 3 weeks. I gave them 4 weeks and never called me for updates. I keep calling them and ALWAYS tells me they're busy and will call back which never happens!!! I had to go there to get assistance and just to tell me they'll call me because it was late in the afternoon already. After 2 months they cant say or tell me any updates on my frames and i had to be the one calling them. Bunch of kids running this place. I know they're busy but no customer service after giving them my money. Bring your money elsewhere! read more

I wanted to take a second to update my review and say that although the first experience was less than satisfactory the owner did change my opinion and personally spoke with me about the incident which I generally really appreciated. They even corrected an issue I didn't even know existed... He didn't have to and it helped tremendously. I would be inclined to give this place another shot for my own curiosity and because everyone deserves a second chance. I am hoping to get another pair of glasses or contact lenses. First of all, I would like to say I've been a long time customer of this place and I would hands down say this is the best eyeglass store in the Hayward area. Though for such suberb quality that price equally matches it. Though I have both my ups and downs about this place. The customer service at this store has been a roller coaster with me as sometimes I feel like it is right on point and other times it has been quite awful. At times, I have considered switching stores, but I still believe in the quality and legitimacy of Eye Spy. This review is for my last visit where Darren helped me to not only adjust my Clubmasters that I bought there, but also the Google Glass that I purchased. He was very quick and professional and managed to adjust both of my glasses to perfection. If only every time was like this. Just as a side note, a few other times that I have been to the store where Darren was not present, the staff have often talked down to me and often given me the impression that "I'm on my own, with whatever I bought". This is mainly about my transition lens. I previously lost a pair of prescription sunglasses and I hoped to get another pair, when my mother suggested transition, so I would not lose them. I was fairly excited for this new change in my life. When I purchased them, I told the sales associate that I needed the glasses for biking and driving so they should be able to work under those situations. I also explained they needed to look professional, due to where I work and that I would prefer that they had the least amount of "tint" to them. My glasses arrived promptly and the fitting was OK. Actually, when they were adjusting it to my face, another sales associate directly took the glasses to the back where she bent them to 90 degree angle. I was appalled a bit, as they were expensive and I didn't expect my favorite eyeglass store to be so rough with their merchandise. After a trifling 30 minutes, the sales associate was unable to adjust the glasses comfortably for me, so I decided to give it a break and come back. I appreciate her trying, though I did not appreciate her attitude towards me. I felt threatened the entire time, as if I asked for any more adjustments that something bad would happen. When I started to wear my sunglasses, I started to notice they were not changing into sunglasses while I was driving. This was an issue, as that is the only reason I would get prescription sunglasses. I came back when I had time to get the glasses adjusted and to ask why they were not working. I soon learned there were two types of transition sensitivities (which was also not explained to me when I purchased the glasses). I asked what options we had and they told me to just change them to the higher sensitivity, though the sales associate explained that the transition is UV activated. I then explained to the sales associate that this would not work as I work in a UV rich environment and that I couldn't have the glasses changing. After thinking about other options, I asked if I could switch back to just normal prescription sunglasses as it seemed like it was not working. The sales associate told me flat out no. She then explained that if I did want to, I would need to purchase a new set of glasses. I've been perturbed by this moment and it still bothers me. I wish these small details were explained to me when I first decided to buy these glasses as now I simply have a very expensive pair of glasses that only work half of the time when I need them. Summary: - I would totally recommend coming here to get your glasses, though I would recommend seeing Darren if you do! - Also, ask questions so you don't make the same mistake that I did. This office by far has the best selection of frames, light weight, comfortable, and fashionable. Lots of frames to choose from. The opticians there are great in helping pick out frames that fits the shape of my face and doing adjustments necessary to make the fit comfortable. The rude manager in front broke my eyeglasses when I asked him to fix it, and then he said it was not his fault because they were old already. He said he would not replace them and I should go somewhere else if I want it fixed. I have been a loyal Eye Spy customer since I have had VSP as my insurance carrier. Unfortunately, due to my last experience, I will no longer provide them with my business. I'm not sure if they changed ownership but this last experience differed from my previous ones and was very chaotic and completely unprofessional. I went in to purchase new prescription sunglasses using my existing prescription on file with and from the Eye Spy optometrist. A gentleman helped me pick out a pair, took down my information and swiped my credit card charging me $200 and telling me I would receive a call in about 3 weeks. Call 1 - 3 weeks came and went so I called Eye Spy asking for a status of my order. The girl on the phone said she would return my call later in the afternoon because they just received in a large order and mine could potentially be in there. I never received a call back. Call 2 - I called the next day and asked again to check on the status of my order since no one returned my call the previous day. The girl on the phone said she was with a customer and asked if she could return my call. Yes, sure, fine. I never received a call back. Call 3 - I called once again at noon. I mentioned this was my third time calling since I never received a previous call back - no apology. The girl shuffled around and asked me if she could put me on hold. I said fine. When she came back on the phone she asked if I remembered who helped me originally. I indicated that I did and described who helped me. I then asked if the issue was that my order was never placed. She said yes, and that the guy that helped me was in today and would call me back. I said at this point I don't want an order placed and told them that they already charged me and I would pull up my credit card statement as proof since they apparently had no documentation. I still never received a call back! Final attempt - At 4pm that same day, I went into Eye Spy. Both the girl that I talked to on the phone and the guy that never placed my order were both at the desk talking to each other. I told them I came in person since they never return phone calls and showed them that over 5 weeks ago they charged me $200. I told them I wanted a credit and also asked them to verify that they never billed my insurance. She told me "oh yea, you said over 3 weeks ago and that is really vague." Apparently investigating an issue and starting at 3 weeks ago and working backwards was a little too much effort and I should have been more specific. Since I had the exact date that they charged me, she was able to find the charge and provide me with a refund. She was nice enough about it but didn't seem overly concerned about losing a customer. At one point in helping me she asked me if the issue was that I brought in an outside prescription. I replied with no, my prescription was from here because I've been coming here for years. I pointed out to them that mix ups happen and that wasn't the issue. But, the fact that I called three times and then physically had to come in there to get assistance was completely unacceptable. read more

The lady that did my eye exam was fantastic! The staff are friendly, and courteous. It stops there. My first pair of glasses I received on time in about two weeks. They did mess up, and had to be sent back (the ones that make there lenses). I paid for something extra, did not get what I paid for, and they had to be sent back to be done right. The staff there caught the mistake. Then a year later, I ordered a pair of Sunglasses. I put $211.00 down, and was told I would have them in two weeks (today). I called yesterday about 6 pm to see if they were there. I talked to some guy. He said he would have to look more into it, and would call me back. He never bothered to call me back, as I have read from so many other reviews. The next day, today, I called again, and talked to Gina. She said she would have to review it, and would call me back in 15 minutes. Gina did call me back later, and said I would receive my glasses in another 10 days. I became very angry, as I was told I would have them in two weeks, now it is turning into a month. I am very angry about this, and will not be doing business with them any more. I am gong to call my insurance company, and make a complaint against Eye Spy with them. To be honest, I do not think the problem is with Eye Spy, but with this worthless lens manufacturer that they do business with. The staff is polite, and courteous (except for not returning your calls, but the problem I feel is with the company they contract to make there lenses. However, I hold Eye Spy accountable for this. If they know that they are constantly having problems with there lens maker, and continue to do business with them, I blame Eye Spy for this. The person that gets screwed, is the customer. I had a wonderful experience when I came to this office so I referred family and friends. BUT I'm sad to say, that the 2 that have gone in have not been so satisfied... My coworker took her daughter in for an eye exam. Her daughter is still a miner and is not responsible enough to wear anything too expensive yet, she has dual coverage from father and mother so she had a nice budget to work with, this being the first pair of glasses they where looking for something simple, but the lady that was helping them would only bring out frames priced $300 and above, even though my coworker had told her she did not want her daughter wearing these type of frames, the optician told her that she should let her daughter wear what ever she wanted too. (Very inappropriate to say something like this to a mother in front of their child.) My mother in law wanted to update her 2 year old glasses, I told her about my great experience so she made an appointment, she likes to stay within her insurance frame budget because she splurges on the lenses. The lady that helped her with her selection started off very friendly but was very pushy on getting pricier frames, she admits they where nice but did not want to choose expensive frames, but the girl was insistent, she felt forced and uncomfortable. When the girl realized that she was not going to buy them my mother in law says that she suddenly wasn't as friendly as she had started out. Really? couldn't you have hidden the fact that you work off commission?? I'm very disappointed about this, I am hoping that it is just this one girl and not the whole office. A word of advice, I hope that management is a little stricter on the dress code, leggings and a small shirt is not professional. DISHONEST BUSINESS practices MANAGER: Darren BROKE GLASSES and refused to pay to replace instead blamed me. On May 17 2010 I went to Eye Spy Optometrics store in Hayward, CA. I had asked that the secretary/manager Darren help tighten my presciption glasses frame. Instead he broke my glasses then proceeded to tell me that my frame was already old and it broke after he just touched it a little bit. I told him that he should have to pay for my prescription glasses because he had broken mine and he told me that it was already old and it's not his fault the eyeglasses broke and also added that the company that makes my eyeglasses are known to make bad products and that's why they went out of business a year ago. I demanded to talk to the manager and he said he was the manager and once again restated his claim that he is not responsible for breaking my glasses even though they were perfectly fine until he snapped them at too far of an angle clumsily. read more

I am an on going customer at eye spy, little did they know I own a carpet cleaning business that works throughout the Bay Area. So to their surprise I showed up when they called the company for a cleansing of the store. As previously stated I'm a frequent customer that enjoys their services. It's a fast and easy going store with good service which is surprising especially for a mall. While shopping at a mall one usually finds themselves being attended to by rude teenage employees that don't know exactly what they are doing, but at eye spy they knew exactly what they were doing. The employees knew their merchandise and they really knew how to speak and respect a customer while still being fun and easy going, definitely sticking to these guys for all my eye wear needs! read more

I patronized this business from the mid '90's until about 2003 when I lost my benefits. And was very happy with their services. So, when I once again had benefits EyeSpy was the first place on my mind. Unfortunately Dr. Seino, who I had seen previously was only working weekends and getting an appointment with her was difficult. I agreed to see Dr. Cantazaro instead. And was rushed through my exam as if he couldn't get me out their quick enough. Still I wasn't put off completely and came back the next year and saw another doctor. I wish could remember her name, and she's not mentioned on their website. But she gave the best exam I ever had. Even picked up on a medical issue that was affecting my vision. After that visit I ordered a pair of glasses. I had returned a couple of months later because the fit was terrible. They kept falling of my face. I spoke with an older Caucasian woman with dark brown curly hair who tried bending the arms of the frames to adjust them. What she did not realize was the arms had two connecting parts. And when she finished had cracked the plastic part on both sides. When I complained she took them in the back to try to fix it somehow. At first I could not tell what she had done to them. When I was home and had better light to get a good look at the frames she had glued the plastic part where it joined the metal piece. I once again went back and spoke with Dr. Janks whose response was to point out scratches. Suggesting that I had done the damage myself. As if scratches were the problem in the first place. He agreed to order one replacement arm. I was so livid over the whole thing I never bothered going back. Eye Spy is a great place if everything is going well. But when things go wrong and it's their fault look out. read more

I have been coming to this place since I can remember. My eye doctor has always been great with me and really helps me understand how my prescription works and how it changes every year when I get my eyes checked. On top of this place being great and having a great doctor , Angelica one of the opticians at Eye Spy has helped me and my family through the years with choosing a frame that looks good and fits best. She makes any alterations needed so that the glasses feel comfortable with the new prescription every year . I cannot recommend this place enough I tell everybody I know That I go here when I get compliments on my glasses , I also recommend Angelica to help you because she has the best experience in making sure you find the best glasses and that they look good on you too no matter what style you have ! read more

She will fit you in frames that will go with the contour of your face giving you the best fit, best style, and not excluding ones that go with your coloring. She will work with you to the very end making sure you are a happy customer, and to make sure...she even gives you a follow up call. If for some reason you are not satisfied with something she will work with you until it's right. Does not rush you and listens to what you have to say. I can't see anyone not giving this place a try. Expensive! I go because they take my insurance and I still end up spending at least $500.00 over what my insurance pays. It takes two almaost 3 weeks to get your glasses once they are ordered. This time they called me after almost 3 weeks to tell me my glasses were ready for pick up, (didn't mention they were closing in 20 minutes) when I got there 30 minutes later the store was closed. go to Lens Crafters the price is about the same and at least if you don't like the glasses you can exchange them within 30 days. read more

Had an eye exam a month ago and my prescription remained the same. A week and a half later when I picked up they insisted the blurriness was normal until I got used to the new lenses. Seemed odd to me since the prescription didn't change. Less than a week later I just couldn't get used to them, the right eye was noticeably blurry and I couldn't see as far as I could with my previous prescription glasses. They asked me to go in, I did the next day and they still felt it was necessary to let me know it was free of charge. Of course it's going to be free of charge, did they expect me to pay for their mistake? After a check up they told me that they sent the prescription in correct but the right lens was wrongly made. They said turn around time would be another 1.5 weeks. I called 3 times after 2 weeks of waiting and they asked for my number every single time, I would at least expect they would have it in the system and even after asking for it they NEVER called me back "in a while" like they would say. Three weeks after dropping them off I call again, they tell me they would call me back since my glasses were to be delivered that day, they called me 2 hours later to pick. I show up before closing and my glasses are no where to be found! All they could do is apologize and offer me $10 for gas, I agreed, what else can I say? They told me they'd call back next day when they found them. I get a call the next dAy and I said I'd be by later, I go at 2:30pm and the place is closed due to lunch! Who takes lunch so late anyways and could they not have said anything over the phone?! So I go back again a few hours later and all they do is apologize and give me some lens cleaner for the inconvenience, are you kidding me? Pathetic! After their mistake I had to drive to the damn place 4 times. 1st to return the glasses, 2nd to pick up 3 weeks later only for them to not be found, 3rd the next day after they couldn't find them only to arrive to an office closed during lunch and 4th to finally get them in my hands. I live 15 miles away via freeway and all I got was $10 gas and lens cleaner, smh. Never going back, not for me and not for any of my family members. The variety of frames and fancy looking place do not make up for the shitty service. I guess I could of asked for a manager but what could he/she have really done, apologize? read more

So I'm giving this place one star because my husband got a pair of glass from here little over a go year and we bought that scratch protection because he works on cars and things fall on him almost daily. So he got a couple of little scratch on his glasses we went to the store and double check that we had it the girl first said no I don't see anything here that says you have it and then she walked away from us and then some other girl came over and looks and said yes you have it we will order you new lenses and call you in about a week well I asked them to please give me a call so I could go and have it done when my husband worked well they did not they called him (not so bad but still annoying). Then we finally went to go get the new lenses and one was so scratched up that you could not see and was told no it's just glue I will get it off well it did not come off, how do you not see that when you are checking them in. Then they ordered him new lenses again 2 weeks went by and did not hear from them had to call myself and see if they were in which they were in. I had an excellent experience today at Eye Spy Optometric at Southland Mall in Hayward. Eye Spy approaches their customers on a personal level. This professional interaction fosters a sense of loyalty. It started with a smile from Optician Angelica when I walk in the door and ended with a "Thank you for your business." Angelica really spent time to identify my needs. She is very professional and most definitely cares about her customers. Angelica walked me through several different designs and history of the frames. She really knows her stuff. She made me feel comfortable. My mind was set on the Cazal 905's. Darren is the Store Director. He lives outside the walls of his business and showed that he's cares about customers and treats them as people. Darren appreciates the power of "Yes". This is the only place that I have bought glasses from in the past two years. I used to work as an optician, so I know how high the quality of product and level of customer service is here at EyeSpy. I've never seen anything like it, from any other optometry practices. The selection here is phenomenal; they even have brands I had never heard of. The lens quality is incredible. I am extremely myopic, so I always expect to have huge "cokebottle" lenses, but, on my first time, I couldn't believe that the glasses they gave me were my prescription. The lenses were so thin! And there was no distortion, which is not uncommon with high prescriptions in high index lenses. My prescription was crystal clear, and those first pair of glasses, only took a week and a half to arrive. It was well worth the short wait. The best thing about EyeSpy is the customer service. All of the associates are kind and welcoming, and are always sure to greet you verbally or with a smile, even if they're assisting another customer. In the past two years I have been coming here, I have always looked for Angelica to help me out. She is a wonderful associate, and always makes me feel like I chose the right pair of glasses. (Since I'm incredibly indecisive, this is a rare thing for me.) She has a great sense of style, and all of the frames she has chosen for me have received tons of compliments. She takes great care and detail to make sure that what I ordered is exactly what I will receive. Angelica also takes the same attention to detail when she is taking measurements for my glasses, which is not an easy thing to do. What I love most about Angelica is how she always goes the extra mile for her customers. Following her sage advice, I decided to lightly tint the lenses on my new glasses. When I left the store that day, she assured me that she would take care of the tint. Tinting glasses is not an exact science, so there tends to be a lot of trial and error during manufacture. She called me a week later and told me the tinted glasses had arrived, but she was not happy with the tint. She said I was more than welcome to come down and see for myself. I was not going to be back in the Bay for weeks when she called me, so I told her that I trusted her judgement. She sent the glasses back to the lab, to have them re-tinted, and a couple of weeks later they arrived. When I finally got back to the store, I was so happy with them. The tint was perfect, not too dark or too light. Angelica really took care of me, and she has ever since I've been going here. TL;DR This store has high quality products, and excellent customer service. Angelica is fantastic, and she always makes sure that I get exactly what I want. read more

From the eye examination to the courteous staff in helping me choose my frame, it was a pleasant experience. It was expensive, but worth it.

I Had been a customer for 3-4 years, I have 3 children and my husband who all of them were also patients. I also referred my mom and dad there, ok so first two years were ok, the doctors are nice the staff ok. But last year I bought a pair of Juicy Coutour frame, I paid almost $100 extra my insurance pays up to $250 per frame. Anyways, I got my glasses and after a year I went back to get a new prescription and usually my insurance paid for the lenses. I wanted to keep the same frame and when I told them, they said they made a mistake last year in the "extras" for my glasses; (because the bottom part is frameless is supposted to be this special plastic) so they catched their mistake this year, ( that I wasn't going to spend a penny on them, what convenient!) and I told them that it was their mistake, that they should had tell me the extras and maybe I would pick up a different frame. Or at least I would be aware of the extra cost and not just make me paid out of the blue! I explained all this and even speak to the manager who was not helpful at all and even told me I was lucky I saved $40 from last year! I wouldn't mind paying for it, but the way the manager treated me... they lost seven patients. read more
