This is the first optometrist I've ever gone to. The office is located in Pelton Plaza which is a small shopping area in downtown San Leandro. The office is in the corner but unfortunately parking can sometimes be very difficult to find. If there is parking, it's metered at about $1.50 per hour. The office itself is pretty small with four chairs for waiting and I think two or three cubicle-like exam rooms. The desk staff are usually pretty nice and accommodating, although I will say I've previously interacted with someone there who seemed really impatient with me which I didn't appreciate (not sure if they still work there now). The optometrists themselves are very professional and understanding, I've worked with two of them before and both were kind and explained everything to me that I needed to know! I've gone before and they had almost no glasses on display, but today they had a bigger selection, just not as much as other places I've seen. Overall this place has good service for optometry but may be inconvenient to access and can feel cramped at times. They just moved to the Pelton plaza location in 2018 which is significantly smaller than their last location. It's pretty bare bones right now. The private rooms have curtains for doors. There's still boxes around. It's not a con, just something I noticed, but it may make others feel like it's sketchy. The optometrist that took me in could have had a better bed side manner, but she was thorough and straight to the point. Definitely took her time and didn't rush the appointment. The office staff were friendly. I showed the woman helping me the style of glasses that I wanted and she brought me about 10 pairs to try on. This review is way overdue, so my apologies to Bell Vision Optometry. I've had countless optometrists over the years and Dr. Ko and Dr. Mai are among the best. I have a high prescription and have different concerns, but they were both thorough in making sure I had everything I needed. They were patient in explaining what they did and in answering my questions. I normally wear contacts but wanted to get a new pair of glasses, and Dr. Ko was really nice as she helped me select a pair I liked, and one that would work well with my budget and insurance. With each visit, I felt like Dr. Ko and Dr. Mai genuinely wanted to help me, which made eye exams a lot less painful =) I've never had a bad experience here and would highly recommend Bell Vision! read more

Awkward experience... First time here was to look at frames to possibly buy frames and lenses, if I found something I liked. I told them this over the phone prior to coming. Due Covid 19 one must make an appointment for anything, so I did. The front desk was abrupt when greeting me and stated she's not going to let me in until closer to 3 because she needed to clean the glasses due to Covid-19. Then when she had me seated at her desk and was going through the motions. I told her I just wanted to look at frames and she asked me if I wanted her to bring me frames to try on. It gets worse there wasn't really a selection of frames to choose from and all of the frames were in a tiny office behind the clerks desk's and you had to disrupt them while getting a pair each time. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Bell vision. I booked an appt for the next day first thing in the morning. It was quiet but the staff was warm and accommodating. I saw Dr. Wong and he was so thorough and informative. It wasn't just "which looks better, lens 1 or 2?" He asked about my lifestyle, helped me determine what was normal and what wasn't (I described random blurry moments and said it sounded like dry eyes that could easily be remedied with eye drops) after my eye exam I was ushered to the frames section. I was helped by Emily and she was so helpful and knowledgeable. I wish she initially asked a little about my likes and dislikes and how I use my glasses and in what situations. She picked out a couple of frames for me from the high end. I quickly went thru them and gave her feedback on the frames. The next batch was much more curated. This experience of someone getting up and choosing frames that fit my face was so neat. It's nice to get that 3rd person perspective and try things you may never have thought to try for yourself. I had gotten glasses with a prescription I got here, but they were too strong, so I called asking if they could recheck me. It was super easy to set up another appointment on the phone. When I got there, Dr. Mai was super kind and really went above and beyond in helping me get a better prescription. She told me if I had any trouble with my new prescription, to not hesitate in coming back. She's very sweet and the staff was very helpful as well, I really enjoyed my experience here. I had severe glare and floaters . Dr Acharya was very patient with me answering all my questions and recommended I get my cataract surgery done which I did and now one eye is like new. I regret that i didn't take the initiative to tell them my glasses is for my daily reading computer purpose which normally asked by my optometrist. Now i got my glasses focusing on reading which would be off focus and headache for reading my computer. This place rocks, staff was very helpful scheduling an appointment and helping me (a virtually blind man) find this location! I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Wong. It was a crazy weekend and I didn't have my glasses or contacts that day so I was bat shit blind using echolocation to get around Oakland into the office. As I was using my superhuman abilities in the waiting office I overhear a sweet Dr. helping a child with their exam. She was great with relating to them, made them feel comfortable, and engaged. Next up was me, the Dr. I had been hearing was Dr. Wong! My first time coming here so I had no idea what to expect. She introduced herself and I told her my situation. She was very relatable and listened to my dilemma about being blind for a morning in a somewhat foreign city while traveling (I was supposed to go to an art installation later that day but wouldn't have been able to enjoy it so I opted to see Bell Vision Optometry instead). Dr. Wong is kind and knowledgeable and made me comfortable because she was easy to relate to. As I was fitting my sample contacts I began to notice that although I had washed my hands thoroughly, I still had some spice on my fingers from a 10/10 spicy papaya salad earlier that morning (a memorable moment for sure)! On my way out as I swipe my Visa, I hear her greeting her next client a teen, immediately doing her magic relating and really connecting. Had my annual eye check, Dr. Acharya and her team prioritized using my insurance and gave me excellent care. I also learned which eye drops are best for my needs, I like slightly whiter eyes. I was using drops that made them pretty dry and Dr. Acharya suggested I use drops that would address what makes my eyes a little bit red without drying them out. The new eye drops are perfect! I have been going here for years and although my doc (Epstein) retired, Dr. Ko was extremely nice and performed a detailed exam. This yelp review was inspired by "Shamila" the kind young lady who fitted and helped me find my frames. I appreciated her professionalism and assistance. Fast forward to me returning to pay for my frames (the balance my insurance did not cover); coupled with me losing my phone minutes before, feeling discombobulated and lost myself without it! "Jesus" offered me the use of their phone, but with today's technology I knew NO ONES number aside from my own!! I press the name. I know not ANY phone numbers :-( As I tried in vain, "Vanessa" attempted to assist the frustrated, flustered me as I lost the outside line connection. Resigned that my phone was lost forever and ready to pay for my glasses which is why I came in, Shamila asked to measure my glasses one more time before sending them to the Lab. I was upset and in a hurry to maybe recover my phone. I sighed, groaned, I think I may have even sworn? She continued to measure my frames (you know how close we have to be for that?) with a professional mannerism and smile. They were all smiling...expect me :-( I requested a receipt, they were moderately busy and a wait was asked. Well, I was LOST IN SPACE without my phone (NO UBER home, no come and pick me up - I knew no ones phone number, which will change!) What a shame! So, I kinda STORMED OUT! When I recovered my phone later that evening from the driver who dropped me off, she said she return to the office, but I had already left. She went on to say how concerned and kind the staff were in their attempts to contact me...but I did not have my phone. I'm not happy with my experience at Bell vision Optometry. I don't recommend anyone coming here at all. At first it seemed nice, doctor Mai was polite. The exam went well. But then when it was time to choose my frames, one of the clerks (blonde Mexican lady) assisted me. She wouldn't let me look at the frames myself. Instead, she CHOSE THE FRAMES FOR ME. It was very annoying and she just sat there staring at me the whole time I was trying on the horrid frames she brought out to me. It made me VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Finally I was stern and told her I would feel better if I just looked around. She left me to it after an excruciating 30 minutes of "picking frames for me". As I'm looking around I couldn't help the feeling of being watched. So, I turned around and all the clerks were just staring...it was super uncomfortable! Never had to deal with anything like that. Normally you just walk around and look for yourself. Finally! I found the perfect fit and frame for my face. I let the girl from before know and she asked me to sit down and look at her. She carelessly marked the lenses of the frame to where she thought my pupils were. And that was that! I felt it was off and asked her if she was sure the markings were accurate to my vision...glasses were ordered. Weeks later I pick up my new frames! And I come to find as the days pass my vision isn't adjusting. The prescription was placed way too low on the lenses. So everything was blurry/smeared. After a week or so I come back and ask if they could fix them. I apologized for the trouble and they don't even try to apologize for messing up my lenses. I had to repeat my self over an over for them to listen to me and resend the lenses to be remade. I wish I could just return them and get my money back because still the prescription on the lenses is soo off. This has and is the worst experience I've had with an optometry! The staff is very unorganized. After my appt with Dr the technician spent 12-15 mins with a sales rep while I sat there. I finally left. I explained I would I bring a pair of frames in for the lens and was told to call prior to. I called, left a message asking for a call back to make such arrangements, waited a week...no call. I drop by and was treated like I had leprosy, and told we take you right now you need to call and make an appt... oh like the time I called a week ago. This business has not followed through and we had to pay out of pocket for the glasses. It is now the end of January and this has been going on since September of 2021. We filed a complaint with the insurance company and the State of California Licensing Bureau. There have been no calls letters or any other attempt to correspond with us. read more

This place is fraud they literally told me that I get 20% off on main brands like Gucci etc etc , when I chosen my glasses they all of sudden said we will give u 30% off if u give us a good review, I was like no problem but when I was about to post it the handicap lady that help me with my paper work presented to me and it only stated 10% off so I was confused and ask what happened to my 30 % discount, she gave me a odd look and said ohh i added it already but it only wrote 10% on paper work. -the glasses I chose is 390$/ price they wrote on paper 345$ n some change. Said my lens is free etc and basically paying for frame...Crazy part is they said not to use my insurance? And prefer to do it without? Very unprofessional and sad . I had never had an eye exam until I came here and my first experience was great! Dr Ko was super friendly and explained things so I could understand. I didn't have any problems with my vision so I didn't need glasses but I was able to get a beautiful pair of Tom Ford sunglasses. The staff were helpful in finding a pair that fit my face :) Also, the optometrists know what they are doing. Dr Ko was able to catch lingering shingles in my dad's eye. For those who don't know, shingles in the eye can be very bad if left untreated. We are so glad that we came here and highly recommend it! read more

Definitely recommend. Mind you this appointment was for my 2 year olds first eye exam so we didn't know how it would go, the girl at the front desk was awesome. She let my daughter pick a toy out of the box and even gave her some sticker and a piece of paper after her eye dilation. The dr was also great. I have a progressive eye disease called keratoconus and Dr. Mai has been key in getting me fitted with scleral lenses that allow me to see in comfort on a daily basis. We had been going to Dr. E for a very long time 10+ years and we were a little hesitant to go back after we learned he has sold his practice, in any case my wife and I decided to give them a chance, let me just say this was our best optometrist appointment We ever had we were extremely satisfied with the service and very knowledgeable doctors.
