I was sad to leave Family Focus Optometry because my vision coverage changed within my company but I was equally as pleased when visiting Dr. Neishi and his assistant for the first time. Sadly, I forget his assistant's name, despite talking to her several times and we also share the same birthday. But we had a good laugh when I first went in because I handed her my paperwork, which I unfortunately forgot to fill out. But afterwards everything went smooth and efficiently. They were able to order me some custom lenses which came in within 1.5 weeks and when I finally decided on the color I received my actual pair within the next few days. Communication was great and while I hear that Dr. Neishi may be retiring next year I certainly hope it's not true. read more

I miss going to Dr. Neishi office. He takes so much care and time for every patient. Every other place I went since (moved to NY) has taken only 5 minutes or tried to upsell me on their products in a very scamming way. Although I live in NY now, I still plan to go to Dr. Neishi when I head home for the holidays for my annual and contact lense exam. Highly recommended if you want a legit doctor! One time, I experienced pain in my left eye, so I called and was seen right away. Turns out I had a scratched cornea plus possible infection. Dr. Neishi didn't charge me for the emergency visit, and redirected me to a specialist. Dr. Neishi was also the only optometrist (of many) to inform me that my astigmatism wasn't that bad, and that I could probably get away with wearing normal contact lenses instead of paying extra to unnecessarily correct my astigmatism. I have been wearing normal contact lenses since without compromising my vision and discomfort. I do not live near San Leandro anymore, and have been to other local optometrists for sake of convenience. All of them have higher copay costs, especially for contact lens consultation, and tell me I need to correct my astigmatism. As soon as I tell them I am aware that my astigmatism is not that severe, they quickly concede. It's been awhile and I need a honest medical assessment of my eye health, so I will make the trip to San Leandro to visit Dr. Neishi. read more

I almost dont want to write a review, because i dont want people to find out and then it'll be hella hard for me to make na appointment. but thats not fair. lol. so yes, i came here for the first time a couple weeks ago. Dr. Neishi is nice, so are the receptionists up front. The examination is very very thorough. and he gives you helpful tips and answers all your questions. Much better than Kaiser, where my exam is lke 15 minutes and its not very thorough then when picking out your glasses, the receptionist comes over and helps you out. and they carry a variety of frames. and if they dont, u can look at the books and they can order it for you. then everything is ready for pick up in about 1 week.... gonna pick up my glasses tomorrow!!! exciteddddddddddddd read more

Dr. Neishi is very thourough in his exam and very quick too! I come back to this place often because they accept my insurance- but mostly because I trust his advices and he has a variety of cute glasses to offer. I spent about an hour here because I had such a hard time deciding between which glasses I should go with. The receptionist is fun and their overall service is wonderful. I had a really good experience here. Elvie at the front desk was extremely courteous and helpful in scheduling an appointment and helping me pick out frames. She was also very thorough in understanding my insurance policy and advised that I actually had coverage for two frames, something I had missed in reading up on my own coverage on my insurance's website. My husband and I have been going to Dr. Neishi for so long, I can't remember when we first started, but I know it has been at least 6 years. They are very friendly there and the exams are very thorough. When I found out I had diabetes, my exam was even more involved as Dr. Neishi really stays on top of checking my eye pressure and retinas. Dr. Neishi and staff are very patient and don't try to rush patients like I have seen other offices do. Whenever we've has regular check ups or when we've needed to be seen for emergencies (like my daughter knocking off my glasses and breaking them), we've felt very welcome and have received excellent service. The only thing to watch for is when you are looking for their address, they are in a shopping center, not on the street. I remember trying to locate them years ago and I kept looking on the street opposite until we realized they were in the Lucky's shopping center....big letters that say "Optometrist". If you're wearing your glasses, you won't miss it. And if you need glasses, it's still big enough letters that you won't miss it! I highly recommend. read more

I had LASIK surgery 1 year ago and I needed a new optometrist since I was working and no longer under my parent's health plan. I have been a Kaiser patient for 13 years so picking my own optometrist was something that was new for me. I was not disappointed. Since I was used to Kaiser, the fancy equipment that looked like it came out of Star Wars, and the hospital setting, my first impression of the place was a bit tacky. It felt strange that an optometrist would be in the middle of a shopping center and not a medical building. Don't let that fool you. The exam was extremely thorough. I went through a series of tests and different machines, some which were scary like the one Dr. Neishi used which looked like night vision goggles the military wears. Had 2 different eye drops placed on me and my eye pressures checked without that annoying puff of air into your eyes. I also sat through an apparatus with one of those jeopardy buttons that checked your peripheral vision. It was reminiscent of those old Atari videogames. My whole exam took over 45 minutes and that is for somebody who doesn't need glasses or contacts! At Kaiser, I was in and out with my glasses AND contacts prescription in less than 15 minutes! The best part was the receptionist (Susan) was very friendly and helpful. She contacted my insurance and explained to me that my insurance was eligible. I did not have to get a receipt and apply for a reimbursement. Other places I talked to required me to do it because the office was too lazy to send the claims to the insurance companies themselves. One word of advice, make sure you bring sunglasses and don't plan on going shopping afterwards because you will have your pupils dilated. I came into Dr. Neishi's office with 20/15 vision which is better than 20/20. By the time I left, I was so blind I was looking at women's workout clothes at the Nike store and didn't even know it...that is until I had people giving me weird looks! read more

I chose Dr. Neishi based on the reviews that I saw on yelp, for my young son. The reviews all seemed to say how nice he was but I guess I should have checked the dates! This was my sons first eye exam , I expected Dr. Neishi to be kid friendly and understand that if you say that you are a specialist for children ages 3-5 that you would have the energy and patience to work with them. He had neither one! We only got through half of the exam before I had to physically take my son out of the chair because of the lack of patience Dr. Neishi had with him. When I asked about the exam result up until that point , (because I could not put my son through anymore) I was told that he would "give me his best guess on the prescription ", which was totally unprofessional. Awful. I came here because of the good Yelp reviews and I was VERY disappointed. Dr Neishi did not explain anything he was doing. He wasn't even friendly. I don't think he smiled one else nor introduced himself. I came here because I have trouble seeing at night while driving. I told him this, he said and I quote, " are you sure your windshield isn't dirty?" Are you kidding me?! I had no idea I had received such a terrible, inaccurate prescription until I had my eyes rechecked. His exam was my very first -- ever. I was very trusting as he was the "expert". He did not take my concerns seriously. He told me I didn't really need glasses but I could order them if I wanted. I went A YEAR of squinting and headaches with difficulty seeing at night because he wasn't able to properly prescribe my glasses. The ones he gave me made me dizzy and hurt my eyes. I thought this was normal, because I wasn't used to them. I will NEVER return to this optometrist. He doesn't know what he is doing. read more

Dr. Neishi is fabulous! He has been my eye doctor for more than 10 years. I had secondary glaucoma that blinded me temporarily when I was a teenager from taking a whiffle ball to the eye (yes that happened) and it has to be watched as I grow older. Dr. Neishi is thorough, professional, and I never have to wait long for an appointment. He is one of those things in life that you don't have to worry about or second guess. Dr. Neishi was very thorough - I really appreciate that he has an alternative eye pressure test that doesn't involve the air puff. The receptionist was very friendly, and they didn't try to upsell me expensive frames - this is the first optometrist I've been to that had cute glasses available for under the insurance cap.
