I'm not one to update reviews, especially reviews that are pretty old because the standard usually holds. But what prompted me to update my initial review from nine years old is because what Dr. Yap created from the start of the office to the moment they sold their practice off is very night and day. I did receive an e-mail from the office around May, stating that both doctors will be relocating back to the East Coast to be closer to their families. They didn't need to provide the additional detail, but having knowing Dr. Yap, it was much appreciated that the move was a personal one. It was also noted that the practice was sold off to another doctor, which I figured that it shouldn't be much of an issue. Things went downhill from the moment I made the call to schedule my annual appointment. Basic customer service would have let the patient know that new doctors are running the office, in case the email didn't make it to your inbox or didn't see it. In the past, I would always be able to select which doctor I would be seeing. This time, no option. I arrived early to my appointment, per usual and my pre-exam check-in didn't start until after a few minutes on my scheduled appointment time. In addition to that, seeing the doctor (who I will leave nameless) didn't see me until 15 minutes after my appointment time, and didn't apologize for the delay. In fact, the entire exam felt like a transaction, get in and get out, like if I was at a retail chain store and was only seen as a number, rather than having that personal touch that makes me want to return to a mom-and-pop shop. And I do understand nothing's perfect. (In fact, I had some issues with Dr. Yap previously, and didn't address head-on because it was resolved without me putting the business on blast.) But the fact that this was an initial meeting with patients that have been with the office since its birth, I'm disappointed that I was left feeling like I should have trusted my gut and find another office this year. Whether or not the office chooses to read this updated review or not, it's not really my agenda, but I do want to retract my original review, in the case someone else is reading it and thinks the standard still holds. read more

I've been a patient at this practice for years, since they first opened. The doctor (the owner) is fantastic. Nice fella. The rest of the place is a dumpster fire. And that starts and ends with the front desk and the support staff. The support staff is a complete train wreck--they need to go back to customer service school and understand that they are servicing customers--less I say, patients--and they should act as if that's what they signed up to get paid for. I visited this shop about 2 years ago to fulfill two prescriptions from my Kaiser optometrist. I paid full price for a pair of prescription eye glasses and also a pair of sunglasses which I need to drive. I take *very* good care of my frames since I tend towards major fashion brands and I'm willing to splurge since I've never been a good candidate for contacts. I began to notice Over the last year my sunglass frames had a gap on the nose bridge that I initially thought was a design feature but when the lenses started to pop off I realized it was defective. I paid a visit to the store which took some effort because they recently changed their hours to make it inconvenient if you have regular work hours. I showed the staff my frames and the issue and they initially informed me they were out of warranty and I'd have to pay, which I refused because the frames were defectively filled. I took my frames there almost 3 weeks ago. When I called to inquire on a status I was told they didn't know and someone would call me back. No one did. I called again to then be told again someone would call me back and after having to complain they didn't to be told it was shipped off and would take another 3 weeks. So basically they didn't a poor job and now my prescription sunglasses are being held hostage for over a month. Never again and I'll now look for a new glasses shop due to this unprofessional customer care. read more

I was researching everywhere for a local on-site lab that can cut lenses the same day. I didn't realize that these types of frame/optometry places are few & far between. Most places you have to give them your frames and wait at least a few days. That simply isn't an option when you only have 1 pair of glasses & need them most of the day. I'm so happy I found Eye Q after calling about 50 places. There were a couple others that have in house labs, but there prices were absurd for regular polycarbonate lens. So I hurried to Eye Q & show up an hour before they close. I was a lil concerned I couldn't get it done. I met with Eljay who was very polite & helpful. Gave me the price & it's hands down the best I've ever heard anywhere! So I paid & filled out my info & he said they'll text me when they're ready. Thank you thank you Eye Q for saving my work week! My dental work glasses broke and I couldn't fix it myself. I was struggling to Mickey Mouse my way through the week by taping them back together with electrical tape and I was miserable and getting headaches. I called my glasses company who said I would need to mail them in and it would take about two weeks to repair. On a whim I called Eye Q and explained the problem to them. They were so kind and said I could come any time and they would repair them for me. I ran into the office in between patients and I was helped by Leo who promptly fixed my glasses for me. I've been going here since they were located at the Eagle Rock Plaza. Their new location is so spacious and very aesthetically pleasing. Every time I come in, I always feel so welcomed. All the employees are super nice, especially Patricia, because she goes above and beyond for the patients. Dr. Yap and Dr. B are always professional and are very helpful when it comes to getting my clear and colored contacts. absolutely delightful experience here! called to make an appointment on thursday; had my appointment on monday afternoon & was so impressed by all the technology this office has! (it's been a minute since i've had my eyes properly checked so maybe I'm just behind on things but no nasty eye drops for pupil dilation or air puffs at this office.) when i met with the doctor she was able to show me the images of my eyes and explain what i was looking at and what's healthy vs how it'd look if there were issues - so cool! brought in my own lenses to have updated with proscription and the staff was super kind & helpful in explaining the cost and provided a nice breakdown. & they were ready the following tuesday. highly recommend this place & will plan to return the next time i need an eye exam! read more

The women working were so nice and helpful and took a considerable amount of time to fit everything and make sure they were perfect. I asked what I owed and they said there was no charge! Very unprofessional! The receptionist only explained the findings of my dad's eye exam. If I didn't insist to talk the doctor no one will explain the findings. The Doctor told me that she can't prescribe any eye glasses base on her findings until my 72 year old dad will go to a specialist not even a temporary one. We paid 159 dollars since my dad don't have insurance. This is not fair for my dad. Definitely not recommended and for sure will not be coming back. read more

Drs. Yap and Banzuela have been the best caretakers of our family's eyesight for many years now! Each time we visit, we're greeted by friendly staff and they are always considerate of what issues we're having or what we might need. The doctors are both very thorough and patient with our many questions. They are smart and caring, which is all you can ask for. Everything is always easy and convenient at this office! The new location on Colorado is much better than their previous mall location. They have their own parking lot. I have been an Eye Q customer now for 5 years. While I'm their Eagle Rock Plaza location, their hours and convenience hooked me in. The doctors were very pleasant but the front office staff were very dismissive. Especially during the pandemic. Recently, because of the hours now being extremely inconvenient, I took a day off and scheduled an appointment online. I received a text canceling my appointment due to "an error" with their system. I was offered a time during the work week when I was working. I miss them at the eagle rock plaza. Felt more accessible. read more

The selection of glasses and frames at the store is solid, not extensive but pretty good. Recently broke my glasses and I found this optometrist nearby. I came and Rachel greeted me she was so welcoming and patient. I came in looking for ray bans frames and Alca was helping chose frames that fit my face. I went with the raybans and after a day I had second thoughts I called back and luckily they still had not started the order. Rachel was so patient she said there was no problem putting the order on hold until I could go back the next day. Next day I decided I liked these coach frames best and Alca helped give me some sort of discount. My order was places September 1st and were ready September 7th. I recommend this place if you are willing to pay out of pocket for your glasses. I paid $330 for these glasses with the non reflective base lens and the frames, definitely an investment. read more

Not only were they incredibly kind and friendly, with Dr. Yap answering all of my many, many questions, but they were also extremely accommodating when my first prescription turned out to be insufficient. I also was able to buy a new pair of glasses and the process didn't take long at all either. Each person that handled my purchase were patient and exhibited great customer service!
