Doctor was great. When I checked out they insisted that I pay for my glasses in full. I've never had to do that until I pick up my glasses but they insisted and would not order them without payment in full. Promised they would be back in 2 weeks and I've been calling to check in as it's past 2 weeks. They were quick to collect my money but not at all communicative about the status of my glasses. Dr. Nishi and Dr. Gin are the best optometrists I've ever been to. My partner and I have been going for 15 years now and have always received excellent care and recommendations. It's a warm family practice and I've enjoyed getting to know the doctors; I feel like I've watched their kids grow up and have gotten helpful parenting advice from Dr. Nishi many times, haha. I've had progressives for a number of years, but they never truly functioned as progressives. Very very happy with my glasses! As a plus, when I expressed concern about my glasses fitting under headphones without gouging me, the technician welcomed me to come back. This was a huge change from my previous optometrist, who dragged their feet with adjustments and gave me a hard time when I came back to have glasses adjusted. (The imaging was very helpful as well, as the dr found a macular hole that needed to be monitored, which, again, my previous optometrist had not detected.) I want to be fair and say that the doctors here are great. Unfortunately, everything else about the experience was extremely disappointing. From the start, they don't let you browse or try glasses on by yourself. You feel rushed the entire time and only shown a few options, which pressures you into picking something within minutes instead of actually finding the right fit. Not surprisingly, when my glasses arrived, they were extremely tight on the sides and gave me constant headaches. I went back 3 times for adjustments and nothing improved. The glasses are simply a poor fit. There was no proper consultation before the sale to make sure the frame would actually work for my face. I paid around $400 for these glasses, and I can't even use them. Now I'm stuck with taking Tylenol for headaches everyday and waiting another full year until my insurance covers a new pair. When I tried to return or at least exchange the frames, they refused, blaming their "policy." They said they could only change the lenses one time, which is ridiculous since the frame is in perfect condition and could easily be exchanged. On top of that, their customer service is horrible. You're made to wait up to an hour for basic adjustments or help. I would not recommend this place. read more

Yet I was there 15 minutes prior and they could see me standing outside, even knocking on the door to open it. Yet they never bothered. I've moved away from my optometrist of 30 years, and I've been walking around thinking my eyesight has deteriorated significantly. I had a hard time seeing at night, and my reading glasses were getting stronger and stronger. I could not read anything without my reading glasses. After a couple of tests, Dr Stacey had a grin on her face. She told me that my eyes went from needing -4.75 contacts to -3.50!! My family and I have been coming to Dr. Gin and Dr. Nishi for years and we absolutely love this place! The lobby is modern and the waiting area has a few chairs, but we've never had to wait more than 10 minutes after check-in. Our orders for glasses or contacts have always arrived on time and with little effort on our end - their staff is phenomenal and so kind. The reason I finally decided to leave a review: NEW TECH! The kids were happily surprised to see the "smart glasses" displayed in the lobby (they can't stop talking about them and my son thinks they will get him one step closer to being Ironman) and during my checkup, they had me put on "Neurolens", which apparently measures eye misalignment - such a fun test, you get to put on a VR headset and watch a cute video where you stare at a yellow dot (no air puffs on this one, yay!). If you are looking for an optometrist that has all the future tech and best eye doctors - we highly recommend Dr. Gin and Dr. Nishi's office. read more

Honestly frustrated that I have to update my review. I came in for glasses a year ago and everything seemed fine. When I got them they were like drunk goggles. Super thick glass, distortion, and aberrations. I came back in after almost falling down the stairs wearing the terrible glasses. The doctor rechecked my eyes and realized he ordered the wrong prescription strength. I even had to pay an additional amount for thinner glass, even though it wasn't my fault the wrong prescription caused the glass to be extremely thick. The new glasses arrived and the prescription was still incorrect. The doctor told me any additional changes would be at my expense, so I had to live with it because I already spent over $500 on them. I came back this year for an updated prescription and my old doctor is no longer there. Turns out my previous doctor was way off with my prescription both times. It was revealed to me that he was a recent grad and not very experienced. The biggest disappointment is that nothing was offered to make the situation right. If I wanted to fix my glasses a third time, the expense was entirely on me. Well, if I have to pay either way, I'd prefer to take my money somewhere where they value their customers and don't waste my $500+ on the wrong prescriptions. I made an appointment here for my 5 years old son with Dr. Nishi just to see if he needs glasses or not. I asked if they have special tools for kids since it's hard to check kids vision and they said yes they have special tools. Then a week before our appointment I called and rescheduled the appointment for a Saturday morning, however the lady didn't inform me that it would be with another doctor! This place is not for kids eye exams. The doctor didn't have experience working with kids. Before the doctor comes they checked my son's vision with Snellen chart which took so long and gave my kid anxiety. When Dr. Huynh came ( so we saw Dr.Huynh instead of Dr. Nishi) my son was already tired and didn't want another Snellen chart test. Then the doctor wanted to dilate his eyes and my son was crying and refusing the drop. When I say this place is not for kids eye exams is because of this! There is no special tools for kids. A 5 year old kid is not patient, gets tired and anxious easily and you can't have a 30 min eye exam expecting the kid to cooperate! I don't understand why it was a whole eye exam before the doctor came if the doctor needed to do the same tests again. I've never seen such a thing! Dr. Huynh didn't gave us any answer if my kid needs glasses or not. She said one eye has high prescription and since he doesn't let me to dilate his eyes I will recommended to see a vision therapist and they will need to dilate his eyes over there. Basically she just passed us to another doctor because she couldn't figure out how to do an eye exam on a 5 year old. Very unprofessional! I'm writing this review after we saw another optometrist. We went to Brand optometry and got my son's eyes checked with amazing doctor Kochkarian. The visit took just 15 min. Horrible customer service Worker was very unprofessional! When asked about basic insurance details, my girlfriend was met by an unprofessional attitude from the woman on the phone. It seemed as if the woman was complaining about helping her in the first place! Her anger was conveyed so vividly through the phone, enough for my girlfriend to break down in tears after the call. In fact before the woman hung up, she uttered a groan that was unnecessary and honestly immature. It would have been a lot more helpful if she conveyed the information to my girlfriend using a more mature and professional tone. She gives you a thorough examination, listens to your complaints and together with the patient, decides a course of action. The supportive staff is amazing. First time at this office the 2 front desk girl really welcoming and polite also back office girls. Dr. Jennifer really detailed and a lot of patience on explaining through ur consultation. No complaints at all but once they take you back to the front with the girl who is supposed to advise and maybe you details about your choices, she made the experience not the best at all. She had no convincing ethics she pretty much looked like she was forced to be at work. I've been going here for the past few years for my annual contact lens exam and to get new glasses (of which I appreciate them breaking down the cost of the glasses components for me, since my last optometrist clinic never did), and compared to my last optometrist clinic, I never felt like they were trying to upsell me anything. I even tried to book a last minute exam during winter break and the front desk ladies got back to me right away when someone canceled after being booked solid that week. Dr. Peng is amazing and definitely David too! He was so helpful with my contact lens order, I can't thank him enough. Also, I read a few comments complaining about paying for the 3D eye scan (or optomap). I learned from my last optometrist that being able to see the back of your eye (which is what I believe the optomap does) is actually a crucial part of an eye exam and not usually covered by insurance. However, if you want to avoid that cost, ask to have your eyes dilated instead. It's a bit less expensive than an optomap, but the downside is you have to deal with having your eyes dilated for a few hours lol. read more

My son and I have been going to this Optometric center and have been happy with the service until after receiving the bill statement from our last visit back in September 2023. The statement (bill) did not get to me until May 2024 (too late). I could have submitted it to my FSA but since the last submission was in March 2024. I contacted the office and spoke to Moe and apologized for the late mailing of the statement. I do not think that this late mailing is acceptable; so, I decided not to go back and look for another center. I hope you guys will realize how important it is to customers for the billing statement to be received in a timely manner (8 months is really not acceptable)!!! read more

We had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Jeremy Nishi's office. We've known him for years, but recent interactions have been frustrating. His assistant, Denise, mishsandled my daughter's insurance and charged her for a service that other offices provide for free. I gave Denise information regarding my adult daughter's insurance. The office didn't contact my daughter who is an adult, but was harassing me with non stop phone calls and texts. I have given them insurance info for the picture taken of her eye, which the office never asked me for my permission to do. I am extremely frustrated with my experience at Dr. Nishi's office. Denise, the assistant, showed her anger by sending an unjust small $40 fee to collections, which is absolutely ridiculous. Without knowing when I went to obtain glasses, another staff member informed me that we could no longer receive services because of that fee. All four of us, who have been patients of Dr. Nishi for years, were denied care over such a trivial amount. To make matters worse, Dr. Nishi never responded to my calls. My husband who has glaucoma needed to see Dr nishi and was denied of services as well. This lack of communication and support is very disappointing, and I cannot recommend this office based on how we've been treated. GREAT OPTOMETRIST! Before going to doctor Stacey Gin, I had gone to two different Glendale optometrists who just could not get my prescription right - for some reason!? The glasses would come back from the lab, but I could not see right. I got my money back and went to Dr Gin - whom I had dealt with several years earlier. This time NO PROBLEM at all. Not only could I see well - but BETTER. That's the whole purpose of visiting an optometrist obviously. Also in the office RAQUEL explained the insurance coverage and took care of the fitting, She was very knowledgeable and professional. And patient too! Dr. Nishi was the first Doctor in a long time to correctly recognize that I needed prisms in my glasses. I don't know when a doctor stopped putting it in there, but for years I couldn't understand why glasses weren't really helping me, but actually making the eyes weaker. I too was very unhappy with the service here. I reordered a new pair of lenses for my existing glasses. After a four month delay, Glendale Optometric advised me that they lost part of my frames, and I would have to select new frames. So I selected new frames, but they spent another month before advising me that they could no longer make my prescription. So I picked up the frames with a copy of the prescription, and brought them to a competitor located a couple of miles away. Within one week I had my glasses, that were exactly that I had requested from Glendale Optometric, who had advised me were not possible to make. My wife also had an issue here. Glendale Optometric sold her a new pair of glasses that gave her a somewhat fuzzy view. She brought them back but was told that the prescription was perfect. Although when she uses her older pair of glasses the vision is sharp. The glasses were over a thousand dollars, and should not be blurry? We will not be coming back here again! read more

Unfortunately this place lacks customer service! While I was waiting to be examined by Dr Hospeian (btw an excellent Dr) tried checking the display to buy glasses. Racheal approached with an extremely rude tone and asked not to touch the glasses and took the glasses away. She didn't offer to help nor asked anyone else to do so. If the glasses on display should not be touched then the store either needs to cover or put a do not touch sign. I won't be back! Her attitude is unacceptable! read more

It's a shame because the doctors we have seen here are nice and thorough so I kept coming back with my family for many years, but the customer service by the rest of the staff is terrible. I thought I was the only one but I came onto Yelp and saw that many other people had similarly bad experiences. Look at the 1-star reviews and save yourself a headache! They all say similar things. There are plenty of places nearby that have good optometrists AND good customer service! After my contact lens exam, I asked if I had any insurance benefits for it, and they told me I had none. I was confused because it had been covered by my insurance in the past, but I figured maybe my plan had changed and they were telling me the truth. I called my insurance afterwards and found out I had a $200 allowance to be used toward a contact lens exam AND contact lenses. I called Glendale Optometric's Billing Department about this, and she said that they don't mention the insurance benefit because THEY decide it's best for the customer to pay for the exam themselves, so that the customer can save their entire allowance to be used toward only contact lenses later since sometimes they cost more than $200 (Note: This is untrue - my yearly supply for contacts is always under $200 and my exam can be covered too). This is a shady practice of lying and acting like they are trying to help you (if you catch them doing it), making you pay for your exam up front so at least they get some money from you (in case you decide not to buy contact lenses from them), and them not dealing with insurance. The customer should be told honestly about their insurance benefits when asked instead of the business lying and deciding FOR you how to use your allowance because they "know best" (meaning, they get direct payment from you for the exam). The billing person also did not apologize and kept giving excuses. Finally after expressing my frustration with this, she said she could give me a refund and have my insurance coverage be used although it was a hassle FOR HER to deal with insurance (if a business doesn't want to deal with insurance, maybe they shouldn't decide to be in-network with them). Three months later I still didn't receive the promised refund; I gave them the benefit of doubt and thought maybe it had been applied to my account as credit and checked in when I came in for another appointment, and found out it hadn't. I called and spoke to the same Billing Dept person from before and she said she didn't remember our conversation. As I insisted it did in fact happen even though she forgot to write it down, she checked the calendar to see if she was the one working the day of my contact lens exam, and then blamed her colleagues for not telling me about my insurance benefits since she hadn't been working that day (although she was the person who explained the shady way they operated on the phone call afterwards). Even if it wasn't her who lied and charged me that day, she should apologize on behalf of the business that it happened. It's frustrating that I had to spend my time calling my insurance and their Billing Department twice to get this straightened out. The opticians (eyeglass staff) here are also rude, condescending, unfriendly, and unprofessional...so I'm done with this place. read more

I'm beyond frustrated. Was given the wrong prescription the first time around after waiting weeks. Had my glasses redone and paid more for the specifications I needed and after receiving the second pair they're awful. The doctors themselves are good but I doubt I will go back and I certainly would never buy glasses here again. Today first they charged my insurance then charged me $265.00 to change lenses of the frame I gave them. And the bill says "after $400 saving!! When I noticed this and asked if they charged $665 for just the lenses they started a long story that doesn't make sense. I took back my frame. I was in dire need of new glasses (I couldn't see two feet in front of me) and because of COVID 19 no one would see except Dr. Nishi!! Even before COVID no one could figure out the right prescription for me so I was skeptical but Dr. Nishi and his wife said this was considered an emergency and they would go in just for me. They also said they could help me with my eye problems, no problem. I was so nervous to go but Dr. Nishi and his associate made me feel comfortable- I was the only patient in the office. He was the only person to figure out a prescription for the problems I was having with my glasses. I got fitted for new lenses and a week later I got my new glasses. I can finally see again! Seriously. You are better off going to places like Zenny or Warby Parker. This place is shady and it seems like other people have caught on. Not only do they add things without you asking like this optomap or whatever it is, they will literally sell you premium branded lenses, but give you the generic instead. You pay Varilux prices and get a different lens that's similar. Hey. You won't know the difference. I went to get an eye exam and they asked for other insurance not sure why but kinda odd when they should only need my eye insurance. I ordered glasses and due to covid you will need to make an appointment to pick up glasses, which I understand but to pick up glasses took another week to be picked up. I made an appointment, when I arrived on time, a lady came out and told me that I was late and I had to wait outside because another customer was ahead of me then realized she made a mistake.
