Finding a good eye doctor is never easy; finding a great eye doctor is nearly impossible. That is why when I found the great team at Glendale Optometric Center--particularly Dr. Stacey Gin--who have taken such great care of me, I felt downright grateful. I moved to the Glendale area a little over a year ago and was in need of finding a doctor's office that accepted EyeMed before my daily contacts ran out. I searched online, and based on reviews and their super easy online appointment system, took a chance on GOC. I am very glad I did. My initial eye exam went great, and I was very pleased to see Dr. Gin's team outfitted with state of the art equipment. My contact evaluation also went smoothly, and based on my needs, Dr. Gin even suggested I switch to a newer type of daily lenses technology (the same she uses herself). My eyes have not felt this comfortable in years! I just had my annual checkup with Dr. Gin, and I was thrilled to see that she has recently remodeled the office, too. It is now bright, modern, and looks fantastic. Dr. Gin's team really listens to my needs and will always go above and beyond to make sure I have what I need. The service here is excellent - 5 star. The employees are very friendly and helpful. However, their business practices are a little shady. When I arrived, they asked for my medical insurance card, in addition to my vision insurance. When I asked why, they said they need the medical card in case I need any medical services. Odd, but okay. When the exam is done, they charged me my copay, plus a $45 fee for something called Optomap. I never requested any sort of service beside my normal annual exam. They never asked if I wanted additional services that were not covered by my vision insurance. They explained that they would have charged this to my medical insurance if I had PPO insurance. Charging insurance for services that were not requested or required seems like waste, if not abuse. The simple solution would be to ask patients if they want the extra service. It feels shady when they hide that cost, and I'm out $45. read more

I went to see another optometrist at another facility and he had prescribed me allergy medicine for my eye. Within a couple days my eyes were twice as bad. I decided to get another opinion and went to Glendale Optometric Center and was seen by Dr. Hovsepyan. Within a matter of seconds he diagnosed me with an eye infection and prescribed antibiotics. Because of Dr. Hovsepian my issue resolved within a couple of days. He correctly diagnosed me and prevented my situation from getting worse. His bedside manners were a 10 out of 10. Not only did he explain everything, he took his time to made sure I was more than satisfied. He really went out of his way. Customer service is terrible. Two times i went to this office. Both times it took receptionists time to raise their eyes and greet me. Feels like you are interrupting them. Customer service of the lady, who helps to choose the glasses was not great either. Today when i was leaving their office i told receptionist that i am not happy with their service , her answer was "ok". That was it. I don't think i will go back again next year. read more

I've been going to Glendale Optometric Center for almost two years and I've always come out with a positive experience. First pro is the nice little parking lot right in front of their building which is super convenient. The interior is very clean and tidy, and it definitely makes browsing for glasses easy. I've seen all 3 of the doctors (Gin, Nishi, and Peng) and they've all been fantastic, and super informative and open to answering any questions I have. I personally don't have any preference between the three, they're all great. The receptionists and assistants are super nice too. No one ever pushes me to get something I am not comfortable with or am not interested in. I highly recommend this place! read more

Again, this place is the best!!! Very professional, kind and clean. To me, cleanness is most important for everything. If the store and office are clean, they have good heart (respect everything), good business and good service, I can trust them well. I'm very happy that I have the best eye doctor Dr. Jeffrey Nishi and the best contact lens department manager Mr. Dale Maruki. I feel like, I don't need to go to the regular doctor for an annual check-up, because they checked my blood pressure, took an image of behind of my eyeballs etc...and what a relief... my eyes tell about my health... I don't have any health problem so far... Dr. Jeffrey Nishi has always nice smile and good energy. Very professional and kind. Even I had some same questions like last visit (mole or cancer? squint-eyed or just tired-eye?), he still answered to my question kindly and looked my eyeballs carefully. I really appreciate his care and kindness. He is the only eye doctor that he taught me about the dominant eye. Mr. Dale Maruki is also professional and kind. Dr. Nishi and his adjustment technique for my contact lens is perfect. My eye sight is changing due to my age (getting old!), but I feel very comfortable with their adjustment for my eye sight (contact lens). He asked me about my stock of my contact lens (I don't have anymore left), and then he had a year supply with a reward coupon (which means, I didn't need to order and pick them up later). This place is awesome - but let me give you a brief history of my eyes before I tell you how amazing Dr. Gin is. I used to go to an optometrist that was in walking distance from my work and would go during my lunch. They were alright but the only minus with that business was the lack of parking (hence the walking during my lunch break or early morning before work). They offered a great selection of frames, however, the doctor was somewhat condescending to me (it had been awhile since I saw the doctor and he scolded me instead of giving me constructive advice on what I should be doing with my contacts, etc. - overall, wasn't that friendly, perhaps I caught him on a bad day). Anyways, I moved offices to Glendale, and had to find a new optometrist. I scoured Yelp and saw all the great reviews about Dr. Gin and decided to make an appointment. Their building is close to the Galleria and wasn't hard to find at all. I schedule my appointment close to when the office opened (due to work) and was warmly greeted by the receptionist. I filled out paperwork and waited in the office. Although they didn't have a TV in the waiting room, it is filled with magazines (to be honest, I can't remember if there was a TV - if there was, it wasn't on). I did have to wait a bit in the waiting room, but I didn't mind - it was early and I think they were still getting everything together. I was greeted by a male doctor who did my eye exam. It was fine, no problems... Then, he guided me to another examination room where I waited another few minutes. Dr. Gin walked in and she was very warm, sweet and did the standard "which is better - 1... 2... or 3" and informed me that my right was getting weaker (almost catching up to the left eye!) She wrote my prescription and also asked me about any problems I was having with my current contacts about how they would always be dry (thanks to my job having me stare at the computer 8 hours a day). She informed me that there are special lens implants that they can do as well as small microscopic tear releases that could help keep my lens moist. After my examination with Dr. Gin, I was told I could pick out some lenses. The lady that helped me was very helpful (although, they didn't carry much of the style I was looking for - just standard black framed glasses). I made my decision and went to work. About a week later, I was informed that my glasses were ready to be picked up and I went over and got them fitted to my wonderful face. Without having to wait that long! Overall, my experience with Glendale Optometric Center and Dr. Gin is a very positive one and it'll be tough to find someone else as great as her and her team when I move up north. Great place to go especially when you think you have some type of eye emergency which i thought i had, called the place to see if they can get me an appointment for next day, and sure did with the great staff and especially Karla for taking her time and listening to my concerns. She definitely made the process smooth and very understandable. Dr. Peng was great as well, she listened to my concerns, and took her time to see the problem. Amazing experience. I didn't feel swindled (I have had bad experiences at the dentist and other offices), the doctor took his time to explain what I was seeing, the technology used was modern and really helped understand my eyes more, the customer service from when I walked in to when I left was exceptional (even if I had to wait, it was ok since everything was awesome. The doctor even gave me a free eye picture for it). You guys are running a tight ship and should be nothing but proud of how well that office is running. You have a customer for life. read more

Been here about 6 times. The place looks nice and doctors are great. But i hope someone with this business reads this. The upselling here is outrageous. I have to assume it's because of commissions that they try to have you order things you don't need. I personally haven't seen anything like it. This should be fixed because i personally won't be back after walking out spending double of what i came in to spend which was pricey to begin with. I have no problem spending money, but not when i feel like it's in things i don't want. I understand places like this have glasses priced higher and stuff like that, that's not my issue. My issue specifically is when i come in saying i don't want to spend a fortune it should be respected and i should be treated with such. Once this is addressed I'll come back but not sooner. They snuck a contact exam on me when i came in for a eyeglass exam and to drop off my vintage glasses to have the script put into. When i told them at checkout when i saw they were charging me for a exam i didn't want they literally told me "oh well it's going to cost you more money to get one later so you should keep this one". I told them no and i needed to speak to the manager. Spoke to manager twice who repeated what they told me and i was pissed. Finally he agreed to not give me the contact script and he wouldn't charge me. Update: came to pick up my glasses today and was told i had a outstanding balance once again. So i asked for what and was told for my contact exam. This is the exam i never asked for, and spoke to the manager 3 times as well as the front desk 2 times who all assured me it would be taken off of my account, after they all tried to tell me that it's cheaper to pay them for the contact exam anyways and i should. I told them "no way i am not having that exam done by you because it was shady the way you tried to have me get it and pay for it behind my back. So today i spoke with my doctor who assured me it'll be taken off. DO NOT GO HERE THEY ARE SHADY. read more

Location is very convenient and the facilities seems professional. I purchased my glasses lens here, since my last prescription was too strong based on my contact lens. Dr. Gin was personable and mentioned about downgrading the prescription after my check up. The 3-stars is due to the lack of finding a resolution, to my issues with the contact lens brand I was using. They tend to get itchy after a few days. It was being disposed too quickly and becoming an expensive yearly purchase. Dr. Gin reasoning seemed a little too nonchalant and unsatisfactory. I would had preferred if she consulted various trial contact lens for my usage, to see which brand is more suitable for my eyes. I walked away from the office to continue my search for the right optometrist. Which I did with Jewel City Optometry in Glendale, who were much more thorough with the examination and provided answers to my itchiness. I figured out I was using an inferior contact lens solution (stay away from Costco and Rite-Aid or CVS generic brand) and discovered I needed more ¨breathable¨ lens. This isn´t to knock down the establishment, but it´s an adequate place to get your casual annual check up. But if you´re having issues with your contact lens, I suggest exploring other options. read more

I have been a patient for over fifteen years and will be forever! If I had to fly across the country to get my eyes checked by Dr. Nishi, I would!! Dr. Nishi is such a great soul with the warmest genuine caring personality. He remembers everything about his patients medical history AND personal life. When he asks "how're you doing?!" You can just tell he really means it. This office is generally pretty busy and appointments sometimes are not available for a few weeks. Even on their busiest day the wait times are minimal and appointments never feel rushed! It's not just the Doctors though, the entire staff is friendly and polite always seeming to be in a cheerful positive mood and accommodating beyond belief! A few of the staff members have been there for years - long before Dr. Nishi - which makes it nice to see the familiar faces when I come for my annual check up. The super sweet office ladies send out reminder texts AND calls a few days before your appointment which is super appreciated for me as I always forget!! If you couldn't tell, I am extremely impressed with the consistently top notch service that they provide! Oh!!!! I almost forgot my absolute favorite part!!! They have recently remodeled their office and they didn't cut any corners either! It's luxury, class, and zen all wrapped into one!! The moment you step foot inside you will feel relaxed and at ease (and maybe a little bit of excitement with their wide selection of amazing new glasses!!) I recently found this place on Google and went for my first visit a couple of months ago. I had also gotten my regular eye exam from the VA very recently as well (for free, due to my 10% disability), but they don't do contact lense exams. So I came here solely for a contact lense exam. I called them in the morning and the lady on the phone was able to set up an appointment for me later that same day. The lady on the phone told me I could fill out those pesky, long forms online, at my leisure, before coming in for my appointment, which I did. I showed up for my appointment, sat down for a couple of minutes, then I was called in--super fast, super easy, zero fuss! After the initial examination by an intern, I believe, the doctor came in to see me, and I quickly discovered that she had done her internship at the VA years ago, so she knew how annoying it was that they didn't do contact lense exams! She asked, "Has anyone ever told you that you have dry eyes?" I retorted cleverly, "Yeah, me!" (I'm a long-time dry eye sufferer due to contact lense abuse in the past). We then talked about all the different eye drops on the market, and she recommended some good ones and where to buy them. We even both knew the best dry eye drops on the market (effective, but expensive)...which she happened to have some free samples of, and gave me a couple. All in all, every staff member I encountered was nice, relatable, and professional. I will be coming back again for another contact lense exam in the future. My only question/request is that since all I needed was the contact lense exam, I was wondering if the amount I paid was for a full eye exam? If so, then perhaps they could give me a discounted price, since I had my comprehensive exam through the VA, and I'm paying out of pocket with no other insurance. That would be very helpful indeed! in the 18 years since my first eye exam, Glendale Optometric is hands down the best office I've ever visited. The front office staff was incredibly attentive, helping me through a variety of phone calls regarding my insurance. The technician who completed my routine pre-exam was helpful and kind, explaining things as he went. Dr. Stacey Gin was incredibly attentive answering all my questions and making a normally arduous process, quick and easy. She was confident, trustworthy and an excellent communicator. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Ok, a story might be helpful here. One of my coworkers was having problems with his glasses/prescription that he couldn't get resolved. So I go- hey, why not come to my eye doc? Didn't want to switch, bla bla, you know the drill. So the dude suffered a few weeks more, then finally had it. Bam! This place made him up a pair and took care of his problem. Another happy camper. As others have mentioned, the staff here is fantastic. They have has a long history of excellent people. Dr. D, DeeDee, Harvey, Greg, Dr. Gin, Sarah, many more to name. Remember- you need good eye doctors PLUS optician and contact lens staff. This place has it all. Please do not order glass from this store in Glendale. We ordered a pair of glass on March 9th and eventually we had to cancel the order. I called them more than 6-8 times to follow up on glass for my 80 years old husband which he had to renew his license and need them bad. I spoke to few employees and eventually Denis from optical deportment told me she contacted lab and there is an issue with frame. She said she'll get back to me but she never did. She was very rude and never said "sorry" for the situation we were going thru after paying over $300 full in payment. Eventually I called back and spoke to Garry the store manager and owner and I found him very dishonest person. He told me another story of they lost the frame and they sent another frame to the lab but he could not tell me when our glass will be ready. He was lying and I told him he doesn't make any sense and I had to cancel our order . He admitted the employees should told us long before they glass were lost. Very very bad customer service . Greg canceled the order and claim to our vision insurance but he didn't bother to call the lab and cancel the order with them. When I contacted our vision insurance they had to call the store and Greg didn't bother to speak to insurance and just told them "he called the lab and cancelled the order". Than our insurance called the lab and spoke to Kris and Kris told no once never called them to cancel the order. So he go head and canceled the order after 20 days. Now we are waiting for lab to cancel the order until our vision insurgence to reset the benefit back. So we can go somewhere else to order glass. ( Tri focus) . All the reviews and stars for this place is Fake. They don't apologize you and they don't tell your the truth. Just such a wasting time. read more

I moved to Glendale almost a year ago and set up an appointment with Glendale Optometric Center which was super easy thanks to the attentive front desk! The receptionists are very pleasant over the phone and in person at the office. I'm so happy to be a patient of Dr. Nishi! He's extremely nice and was able to adjust my prescription and I haven't had visual migraines at all! I also switched over to disposable contact lenses for the first time, which at first I was apprehensive about. Dr. Nishi and his assistant instructed me on how to insert, wear and get the feeling of them and now I have zero issues. It's a welcome change up from wearing glasses all the time. The frame selection is lovely too, I got a great pair for relatively inexpensive designer frames and I get compliments all the time when I wear them. Can't say enough good things about this place! I've been with them for 5+ years I believe and everything was perfect until she arrived. Last straw was this morning when I wanted to come in to check my eyes for possible pink eye. I was going to be 5mins late so I made a courtesy call. She just told me that I'll have to come back after 5hours (next available appt) and I tried to explain my situation being it was pretty urgent. The office staff was very friendly and welcoming and the office is really nice. I met initially with Dale, who ran me through a few eye tests and then with Dr. Nishi who was really easy to talk to. He took time to explain the tests to me and ever suggest a new sushi place close to my house! Psst. He is also a cutie! They will even email you a picture of your eye. I thought that was kinda cool. I didn't really see any glasses that sparked my interest but there was no pressure to buy there, which makes me want to go back and buy from them anyway! came here to fill my new prescription because Costco didn't take VSP insurance and so i'd have to get reimbursed (lame). ended up stumbling upon this little gem during a quick Yelp search of the area for optometric places. upon arrival, i was greeted with a friendly smile by the receptionist and immediately felt welcome and at ease. they have a great selection of men's frames ranging from Armani, Oakley, Marc Jacobs...etc. i was really surprised at how nice the Oakley frames were and decided to go with that, although some of the Armani frames were awesome too. after figuring out pricing and what my insurance would cover, within a week my glasses were ready. definitely would recommend this place to get your new pair of prescription glasses! i've heard great things from the optometrists as well and will have to try them out next year for my annual checkup! read more

I was in "vision denial". I always believed I don't need my eyes checked, I was forced by my wife to just schedule an eye appointment, so for the heck of it, I yelped "eye doctors" and stumbled upon this gem! Dr. Gin was the doctor who went over my eye exam and she was very nice, very honest with her findings and very accommodating to all the questions I have. She explained the tests she was doing and why she's doing those tests. Very helpful and totally stress free. The clinic has every vision service you need in one roof, exams, frames and lenses. I loved my experience here... talk about first impressions. My first eye exam! Turns out, I needed glasses for driving at night. Second update: Went in for full eye exam for contacts and glasses, parking was easy in their lot, staff was helpful in getting a quick appointment. The range of exams and tests they perform is impressive and makes you see that they are checking your eye health too, not just vision: retina photographs, field of view, optic nerve check, glaucoma, and more. Dr Gin was very attentive to my concerns about contact irritation and was ultra diligent in checking my vision. Although my prescription had not changed I felt confident that my eyes were healthy and would stay that way with her suggestions on new cleaning solutions. Very impressive, very nice and professional. Highly recommended. update: a year later I am Looking forward to making an appointment and going back and experiencing their service which they felt would be a great one... that would be nice as it would be great to have a go-to place you can trust. I had brought my girlfriend's dad for a medical examination and was impressed by the level of care provided by Glendale Optometric Center. I hate going to the eye doctor... I can do just about anything else but there is something about things near or touching my eye that really just makes me uncomfortable. Don't even get me started on the dilation, the dye drops or that annoying poof of air. I mean, I'd rather have root canal than go to the eye doctor! That being said I had a very positive experience at the Glendale Optometric Center. Everyone there, from the top down is extremely friendly. I explained a lot of my reservations about the whole check up experience and my eye doctor said that there was an optional procedure they could do which involved using a camera to take a photography of my eyes and that way I could likely avoid the dilation and all the prodding at my eye. It was $50 more but... as I'm sure you've guessed by now... it was well worth it for me. The picture took a minute or two for both eyes and before I knew it we were looking at the pictures. All in all very easy and pleasant experience. After the check up, I was directed to the glasses section where a nice woman helped me choose a pair. This part feels a tiny bit "forced" on you but I do have to say it was really nice to have someone pulling glasses she thought would work well for me and having a nice sounding board and second opinion which ones looked the best. The selection was pretty good and I ended up with a pair I am very happy with. read more

It is always hard to find a good doctor and when you can find a GREAT one, I always feel very lucky. I love the Glendale Optometric Center and am so appreciative that my eyes are in good care. I've seen both Dr. Gin and Dr. Nishi and they are incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. They are easy to talk to and they are very good at explaining to you the tests they are taking, the process they are doing when you are having your eye exam and answer any questions you have. It is impressive the credentials both doctors have and it is evident from visiting that they are very passionate about their work. All of the other staff are also very nice and helpful. Let me tell you, I am blind as a bat, so I am very particular as to where I go to for optometry. I loved everything about Glendale Optometric Center and more. Everything is so efficient and professional and clean- from being able to fill out paperwork online, to being advocated for in my insurance, to the customer service from all of the staff, latest technology, everything!! Left a memorable impact on me and I want to go back, and I usually dread the optometrist more than the dentist. Yes this is a raving review. My insurance is running out so I decided to use it one last time and get my eyes checked. I checked out Yelp and came to Glendale Optometric Center. My doctor was Dr. Nishi (yes, I also think it is weird when Yelp reviews use the person's name because it always make me wonder "Is a friend writing this review? An employee of the place?" But no, he just gave me his card after the check-up, and so I want to give credit where it's due) and he was fantastic. Very relaxing and professional, made all the normal small talk that makes you comfortable to have shiny lights flashing in your eyes while your pupils are fully dilated. Besides him everyone else seemed a little off. I considered getting contacts and the guy who did my consultation told me the price after my insurance seemed rather disappointed I didn't buy any. They have a $70 Consultation fee or something AND an extra $100+ just to show new users how to put contacts in and out (though my fiance has been wearing them for years so she could teach me just as well). Then I considered using my insurance on glasses, but decided to save it in case I get lenses somewhere else, and the girl had a slighter, but similar disappointed response. Though she did tighten my current glasses and that was nice of her. Obvious I understand that this is their livelihood and they want me to get lenses and glasses. Also, it's not like they're trying to rip me off (except for the outrageous fee for showing me how to put them in), it's just weird seeing their faces like I hurt them because I just can't afford the copays. I'm not docking them a star for this, but Nishi seemed to be the only one who didn't in some way make me a tad uncomfortable. Oh well, maybe it's me. The four stars is basically because this place was above average, but it didn't WOW me. It was neither better or worse than the only other Optemtric place I've been to, so it doesn't deserve extraordinary praise in my opinion. It's a fine choice, I would definitely go back in a heart beat rather than go through the trouble of finding another place. read more
