I had an eye exam today at Brand Optometry after not going for a while, and I left feeling extremely frustrated. The appointment started off great. I checked in, filled out paperwork, and everything was smooth. The technician who helped me first was incredibly kind, patient, and professional. Shoutout to her. She did the preliminary tests (the hot air balloon / green dot machine), and this is where things began. She told me that to use a certain machine, my eyes would need to be diluted. If I didn't want that, I could pay $39 extra to use a different machine. Since I drove myself and could not have my eyes tweaked (and I also didn't sign the diluting eye drop consent in my paperwork), I agreed to the $39. I even asked if it would be billed to insurance because I had budgeted for this visit, and she told me no, insurance doesn't cover it. Not one singular problem, completely doable. Then I went in to see the doctor. He was friendly, easy to talk to, and I actually felt very comfortable with him at first. He started asking me about my contact lenses, what brand I use, what color, how often I wear them. I answered everything and made it clear that I am very comfortable with my current lenses and happy with them. This was just a normal conversation that he initiated, not something I requested. Or so I thought. He then did my vision test and told me my prescription was slightly inaccurate, that my right eye was around -1.75 and my left was -2, as opposed to both eyes being -2 like my previous eye exam from 5 years ago said. Based on that, he said he was going to bring out lenses for me to try on "to confirm." That is exactly how it was presented, as a quick confirmation of his own findings. He brought out clear trial lenses, had me put them on, and we did another quick vision check. The result? My original prescription (-2 in both eyes) was actually still correct (or preferable for my eyes). So not only was this step unnecessary, but his initial assessment was off as well. That is still no problem, I'd rather a doctor try 50 things to be sure than take 1 look at me and brush it off. Respectable. BUT more importantly, at no point, not even for a second, did he say this was a "contact lens evaluation." He never said it was optional. He never mentioned it would cost extra. He never gave me a price. He never asked for my consent to perform a separate, billable service. It felt like part of the normal exam, especially since he was the one who brought it up and framed it as a confirmation. After the exam, I went to the front and was told my total was almost $130, including the $39 I had agreed to, plus an additional amount for a contact lens evaluation. That was the first time I had ever even heard of that charge. I immediately asked the receptionist, very nicely and politely, "Did I request that?" because I genuinely had no idea what she was referring to. She glanced at the paperwork and said, "Yeah, here it is, the doctor did it." I explained to her that this was the first time I was hearing about it, that the doctor never told me he was doing a contact lens evaluation, never said it would cost extra, and that I never asked for it. Her response was essentially just, "Oh," followed by, "Well, it's still going to be this total." That was it. She didn't go speak to the doctor. She didn't try to clarify anything. She didn't attempt to resolve the situation in any way. While she was polite on the surface, the response came across as completely dismissive and indifferent. There was zero effort made toward addressing the concern, retaining a patient, or even acknowledging that this might be an issue. And that's really the bigger problem here. This is not about the money, it's about the principle. You cannot decide, in the middle of an exam, to perform an additional service that the patient did not request, not explain it, not disclose the cost, and then charge them for it afterward. That is completely unacceptable in a medical setting. What if I had only brought enough to cover the $39? I specifically asked about pricing beforehand because being hit with an unexpected charge like that is not okay. It's really disappointing because the experience started off so positive. The staff and doctor were kind and professional at first, but the complete lack of transparency and accountability completely destroyed any trust. I don't usually write reviews, but this has been bothering me all day. Congratulations to Brand Optometry for swindling me out of almost $130, I hope it keeps your light bill on. But you will need the world's luck to get me (and my friends and family who are equally appalled at the principle behind the action) to walk through your doors again. I will not be coming back, and I would not recommend this place based on how they handle billing and patient communication. read more

This review is a month old and I wasn't going to post it but this still doesn't sit well with me so here it is. After spending hundreds of dollars here and three tries, I still don't have glasses I can use. I try to support small businesses, but this has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I've been coming here for a few years. I like the doctors, and the visits have been fine. Until recently, the push to spend more money here didn't bother me -- it felt like a normal part of business. This recent experience, however, was extremely frustrating. I picked out frames and spent a few hundred dollars. When I received the glasses, they were completely off -- the prescription was wrong. When I went back a couple of weeks later, the doctor's attitude was that I didn't understand how glasses work. Which is fine, I like him. But knowing the glasses aren't right doesn't require a degree. The glasses help you see better or they don't. The staff (a particular front desk employee) acted like I was a bother. A few people definitely seem to carry an unspoken contempt and shouldn't be in a service field, though there are plenty of nice people there too. The glasses were remade but still completely not usable. I had my husband call for me because they were so rude about it the first time. He spoke with someone who was very understanding, and she got me in right away to see another doctor (the new owner, I believe) who was lovely. I told her I wanted just go back to single vision. She checked my old glasses and said they were progressive. (I should have insisted because I checked later and they were indeed single vision.) It seemed like they didn't want me to get cheaper glasses. I wasn't going to ask for any refund. Yes single vision is cheaper but I just wanted usable glasses. She insisted they were not single vision and made some tweaks and explained to me how that would fix it. Again, really nice but not really listening. I just wanted computer glasses. While there, I asked the gentleman who was measuring my eyes if they could add blue light filter. He said they would but didn't write it down and his demeanor seemed to suggest he had no intention of adding it. Again- I would have paid. As he was doing the measurements he barely acknowledged me, sitting right in front of him. And a few times he looked straight at me as I was speaking and he didn't respond at all. Strange. Two months after my first visit, I picked up the glasses a third time. Complete waste. The lenses are foggy or dense with an odd discoloration that none of my other glasses have ever had. And lacked the requested blue-light coating. And the tiny "sweet spot" is completely off on one eye. The prescription area in these lenses are tiny and oddly positioned. They're just not usable. I went to Warby Parker for progressives. Took the prescription from Brand, placed the order, took 10 minutes and one week later I had them and they're perfect. I don't know what went wrong here, but on top of the unprofessional attitudes some of them have, this was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. read more

They also didn't hesitate call my insurance and resolve authorization issues while I browsed around looking for frames. I have been going to Dr. Sarajian for years. She's always very nice, polite and listens to concerns. She doesn't rush during exams and answers all the questions that patients might have. The young guys who helps with the glasses is nice too. He makes suggestions and helps with picking glasses. Friendly advice. Whoa the older lady(receptionist) can be really rude and unprofessional. If you have questions or concerns, don't even bother asking her cause she will give you attitude and answers that you don't want to hear. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Brand Optometry. They are highly unprofessional, lack basic customer service, and, most concerningly, breach client confidentiality. They lost my prescription glasses not once, but twice. On top of that, one of the older Armenian-speaking women at the final sales desk (on March 1st) openly discussed other clients' private business in front of everyone--completely unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. If you want your glasses misplaced or stolen by their own staff and be subjected to baseless allegations, this is the place for you. I came to Brand optometry, to get prescriptions for glasses. Doctor Janbatian and his staff are so incompetent and careless, that they had to re do prescription 3 times for I had a double vision. Left lens is totally horrible for it creates double vision..I received glasses in the mail third time for I don't live in Glandale anymore. Glasses are still defective. I filed grievance with my insurance company. I can't get right prescription for 3 months. Stay away from this doctor he doesn't know what he is doing. These guys are "The Worst" I have ever met. Do not waste your money, time, and health to be there. They don't deserve to be trusted. My daughter's glasses came as a "very Big frame" with not clear plastic glasses that she couldn't see through. She didn't even wear it for 1 second, and when I tried it on I realized how "trash" is the quality, they charged $130 the insurance and $41 my son (who took my daughter for her visit, and then got the glasses). I talked to my insurance right before going back to their office, and insurance told me they can refund the amount after I return the merchandise so I can get a new glasses from somewhere else. When I got to the iffice, the front desk asked me politely to wait, and then this mid age rude guy came and said they never return the bought glasses, but if my daughter goes back they can make it better. This has never happened to me to take my daughter twice for new glasses!!!! I saw another guy there who got his glasses back and said "it is clear now!". Been going to this place for a long time. My optometrist has always been great. However, over the years, receptionists are getting ruder and ruder. They called me to let me know my glasses were ready. I showed up and she was rude that they didn't have my glasses and that I never ordered one. I spent over $1000 on frame and lenses. I insisted and she started probing asking for my name, birthday and social security over and over again. I didn't knew what she wanted. We went back and forth for 15 minutes. I've been shopping around for sunglasses lately and have visited several stores in the last week and can without hesitation fully endorse Brand Optometry. I was assisted by the salesman, Vartan. He was extremely knowledgeable of sunglasses, prescription glasses and the insurance process for prescription glasses (I have VSP insurance. Vartan saved me all kinds of time and hassle with his expertise and was very easy to deal with. And it was especially great in comparison to some of the disinterested, uninformed and flat out rude sales people at the other optics stores that I visited. FYI I was searching for high end brand frames by Jacques Marie Mage. They had a huge selection. Definitely ask for Vartan if you go! read more

Great location, great facility, great staff and great Doctor. I'm so glad that my family and I finally found a place for eye care. We've been going to other places and each time they've charged us so much, even with good insurance. At Brand Optometry she told us we have awesome insurance that covers a lot. My son and his dad got new frames and I wanted my lens darker in my sunglasses (I didn't get glasses bc my prescription didn't change) and all of it was an amazing price!
