Really excellent in every way. Was seen by the Ophthalmologist, Dr. Zarate, and was very happy with the quality of the eye exam. Do not order anything from this place. They are only open a few days a week and even this schedule is not regular. I ordered lenses for my three year old almost two months ago and it has been near impossible to get anyone to answer my call much less follow up on my order. My daughter has now been without her corrective glasses for almost two months. Also, I called again today and was told they do not make phone calls until 11:30. Their office is supposed to open at 9. The office does not return calls. I have been trying since March 2021 to get a return appointment for annual examination. I leave a message at the office on Honolulu (where I go for my exams) no return call. I call the Glendale location in May. They left a message. I returned their call and got the answering machine. This review isn't for Dr. Zarate, as I didn't even get to have my office visit, because her staff wasted my time. I called over a month ago and made an appointment and stated I was a new patient. My appointment was today, I get there early, fill out the paperwork and am then told I can't be seen because I wasn't referred by my PCP. That is the first time I'm hearing that from anyone, but even if that is so, why wasn't that brought up to be handled a month ago? You wasted my day and I will never be back. read more

I've been coming to see Dr. Zarate for a year now. I originally picked this place because it was really close to my house...less than 2 miles!! Appointments are fairly easy to make, but I had to reschedule my last missed appointment and I got in a month later. I don't blame them, my schedule is always problematic. I'm just happy there aren't too many emergency eye exams needed! Dr. Zarate is sweet and nice. She does have a partner that works there, but I've never seen him. They have a great selection of frames and it takes about one week for them to get your prescription ready. The staff is pleasant and congenial. They accept VSP??.. Parking is easy with street and lot parking. They are open Saturdays which is nice for those with regular schedules. read more

I was a walk-in- no history with this place. I needed lenses removed from a broken pair of frames and put into other frames. It was done quickly and with a smile. I was not charged for the service! Fantastic selection of sunglasses and frames. I always come here when I need a new pair. Once I went in to get my sunglasses tightened and they did it for me on the spot, and returned it in a couple minutes. The staff is very helpful and Dr. Zarate is exceptional. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kathleen Dennis Zarate for many years. My father referred me to her. She did two of his eye surgeries. I've only seen her at her location in Montrose. She is wonderful! My entire family goes to her. I don't understand the negative reviews. Andre is still there and does a fantastic job helping you figure out which frames would look best. He is very nice and easy to deal with. The girls that work at the front are efficient at their job and there have been times when one of the girls that is there has not been the warmest or friendliest but she still does a good job. They take Saturday appointments and are open late one day during the week. I will continue to refer people to Dr. Zarate and will continue to be her patient. read more

I am very disappointed in the Spectacle Shop's two receptionist that worked today. One of them gave me an incomplete copy of a prescription. I called to have a corrected one faxed to Costco and for her to call me once it was complete. Ten minutes went by and when I called to follow up, she had a complete attitude. Her statement was that I had just called 5 minutes ago and she wasn't done copying. I responded and said to her that I would t be calling to have this done had she provided a correct prescription!!! When I tried to call again to follow up, she kept putting me on hold a total of 4 times! I called from a private number and told her how rude she was. I like Dr Zarate but her staff at the front are the worst when it comes to customer service. I'm not one to write on a review or to take this complaint forward, but this is not the first time that my time has been wasted by the front office staff. I realize it's difficult to find good help but she shouldn't settle for these two representing her practice!! read more

My review is mixed. I have my dates all scattered about somehow and I had made appointments for my sister and myself. The day before we get a call. I can't have a check up but I'm elligible for frames but not lenses until November. My sister same situation but she can have a check up and frames. I spoke to Jenny and we both agreed the day of that it wouldn't make sense for me to come in today for frames and risk my prescription changing in November for my check up. So I cancelled. I still went in with my sister because they told her she was ellig for frames and she has the worst taste sometimes. Her appt was for 4pm. 415 they finally call her in and give her a clipboard to update her information. I wish they were faster with paperwork. I recommend emailing demographic sheets before a visit to expedite the process. Anyways finally 425 they call her in to check her eye pressure. Then she gets called in by the doctor at 435. I wish seeing an eye doctor was quicker. There wasn't many people in the office. The two reps seemed very lax and I wish the normal girls who worked there last year were there. My point. After my sister saw the doctor she asked to make sure she could get glasses and that's when the told her yes, but no lenses ! Thats like heres a bicycle with no wheels! Why tell me to hold off but not her! . Jenny said because she can see the doctor and you can't and we can't predict if you would want to just see a doctor. I told her but you knew she wouldn't be able to get glasses. She didn't see or understand my frustration nor see that that is like withholding information. Why not tell her as well to come in November for frames AND lenses?? ? Jenny's response was a round about implication that the patient is responsible to know their dates not the office.FINE but I felt that was passive aggressively a rude thing to say. I've always gone back to spectacle shoppe because I thought they had my back. I feel fairly disappointed by the lack of compassion this time around . I stayed awake after my 12 hour night shift to help my sister pick frames but now we're going home empty handed. I don't think I'll come back November. One star for dr park because she's so nice. I have been using the Spectacle Shoppe for about 25 years. Dr. Zurate bought the place about 7 or 8 years ago and the service has dropped. I waited an hour today, got mad and had the receptionist refund my $25 and steamed all the way home. Andre who grinds the lenses is the only one in the area who can fit my prescription but without an exam he cannot do anything. read more

there are no words for how brilliant Andre Tabak is. his experience, taste, knowledge, and overall good manner are not to be missed. I have been wearing glasses since I was 15 years old, and there is no question that Andre is the finest optician I have ever seen. if I move to Kansas (unlikely) I will still be using only Andre. if I have to board a plane to come see him, well, you get it. he's the best, bar none. The frame selection at the spectacle shop is interesting, and Andre will help you find the right pair for your face. I am a very particular woman about my appearance, more so than most, such that I trust almost no one with decisions about the way I present myself. I learned a long time ago to just let Andre make the decisions and listen to his advice, because he is always right. If you want to work with a truly talented professional, you know where to go. Today, I understand why giving my business to small family owned operations pays off... especially in my very own neighborhood... Montrose. I visited Costco years ago to get my first pair of glasses and felt like I was on an "assembly line" when I got my eyes checked...needless to say the glasses I purchased didn't fit me properly so I ended up making my first appointment at The Spectacle Shoppe. Now... after 2 years, I had to get my prescription renewed and encountered the same great service I got when I first came here. Jackie and Lucy were great getting me set up with the right pair of glasses and every time I have needed adjustments, they have helped me. Today, after dropping my new pair of glasses, I received a major adjustment Jackie took great care of me once again. I am so grateful for her help and assistance. Prior to the new owner taking over, I had been a client of The Spectacle Shoppe since 1998. I purchased a pair of glasses from them a couple years ago, which recently broke. I called yesterday to request another pair, using the same frame and prescription. The receptionist (Jackie?) was dismissive and rude, put me on hold 2 or 3 times (for 10+ minutes), then finally decided to take my call. I explained my glasses had broken and I didn't have a back-up pair, and could she order another pair. She asked when was the last time I had an eye exam. I told her I wasn't sure, but if she pulled my file she would have all the information she needs. She then told me, 'she didn't have time to talk, but would call me back.' She never called back. I called again today and was told she didn't have my file, but it didn't matter because I'd have to have another eye examination anyway. I told her I see perfectly through the current prescription, and could she just find my file, and prepare a new set of glasses, because I can't drive, etc., without them. She said my file was 'probably' in storage, and didn't know when they'd get around to look for it. Again, I explained that this is an emergency -- but that didn't seem important to her, and she went on again about not having the time, blah, blah, blah. By now I'm getting pretty frustrated with her unprofessional "I couldn't care less" attitude (as though I'm imposing on her), and told her I would be in tomorrow to pick up my file and take my business elsewhere!
