Since 2019 I have been having vision issues, and Dr. Chan took good care of my process for cataract…read moresurgery this year. Dr. Chan took the time to listen to my concerns and made sure that the upcoming surgeries lead to improving my vision. His goal was for me to drive without glasses, and that means very, very good vision, if not perfect. The 1st surgery was in mid May, 2022, and I went back to see Dr. Chan to make sure everything went as planned. The 2nd surgery was in early June, 2022, and so far I can read as perfectly as anyone with excellent vision. Either day or night, driving has become so much easier now that I can see so well. Dr. Chan suggested getting reading glasses, and other recommendations to deal with my dry eyes. I would say Dr. Chan was the right doctor for me, at the right time. Of course I'll write a review for the surgeon as well.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Dr. Ghazaryan…read more I scheduled an optometry appointment, arranged my day around it, and left my 88-year-old mother alone so I could attend. Only upon checking in was I informed of a prescription fee that had never been disclosed when the appointment was scheduled. Had I been informed of this fee when the appointment was scheduled, I could have planned accordingly. I explained that I was not refusing to pay the fee. Since I had already taken the time to come to the appointment, I respectfully asked whether the exam could proceed and would pay the prescription will pick up during my ophthalmologist appointment in a few weeks. The front desk initially indicated this might be possible. After completing the vision testing, the assistant informed me that she needed to speak with the doctor. Dr. Ghazaryan then entered the room without introducing herself or greeting me and immediately focused on the payment issue. Rather than listening to my concern regarding the lack of fee disclosure and the inconvenience it caused, her demeanor became increasingly confrontational. The disbelief I felt at the doctor's reaction is difficult to overstate. I was not refusing to pay the fee; I was simply explaining the circumstances and asking for consideration after being surprised with an undisclosed charge. To be met with such visible irritation, an elevated tone, and a refusal to continue the visit was disappointing to witness from a physician entrusted with patient care. When I attempted to explain my situation, I felt interrupted, dismissed, and rushed. Dr. Ghazaryan stated that she had other patients waiting and ultimately refused to continue the appointment. The interaction escalated unnecessarily, and I found her tone and conduct unprofessional. She then left the room in a manner that drew attention from others nearby, which was both embarrassing and upsetting. My concern is not the $50 fee itself. Medical offices have every right to charge fees and enforce their policies. My concern is that patients should be informed of those fees before they arrive for an appointment. Unexpected charges presented at check-in leave patients with no opportunity to plan financially or make an informed decision beforehand. Following the incident, I contacted the patient service call center to report my concerns because I believe both the lack of transparency regarding fees and the manner in which I was treated warrant review. Patients deserve clear communication, advance disclosure of charges, professionalism, and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience during this visit. What should have been a routine eye appointment became an unnecessarily stressful and confrontational encounter that left me feeling that my time, circumstances, and concerns as a patient were given little consideration.

Dr. Stephen Chang at Glendale Eye Medical Group was referred by few friends for my mom's PRK…read moresurgery after a failed Lasik surgery that was done by Dr. Kourouyan. He did NOT take any precautions and his procedure had a disastrous outcome. The laser got caught in the old incision and cut layers down in the cornea. He assured us that he will take care of all the costs and medical care for the eye, and he reimbursed half of the charges because of his negligence. My mother was scheduled few visits throughout the next year hoping to see progress while it was healing. After a year passed from the surgery date we had our last visit. He checked the eye and said I'm sorry but your vision has gotten worse and it's not healing. I can't do anything for you. We had to pay out of pocket to see Dr. Maloney, one of the best ophthalmologist in the country. He recommended a cornea transplant. Since then I have requested her medical records from Dr. Chang's office. They gave us copies of the dates that she had gone for visits and not the actual notes from the Dr. Unfortunately since a year has passed so has the statue of limitations period and many attorneys do not take the case and Dr. Chang is not taking any responsibility to care for his patient due to his negligence. My mother's eye is more then 80 percent damaged from this surgery. Her vision is mainly reliant on one eye. Take our experience in consideration and don't risk your vision to negligence.
