From the time we walked in it was the most amazing experience. We were graciously and warmly greeted by the front desk. There was hardly a wait and we were called in by a young gentleman, Vahon. We have never been treated so kindly and hospitably by any medical business! Never have we been offered coffee. Vahon was very professional and knowledgeable and more than competent. He took very good care of my 91 year old father. Then came Dr. Paronian! She took the time to explain in detail and in a way that we could understand the test results and future treatments! She listened to our concerns and put us at ease. My father who is hard to please was so impressed with Calif Eye Center and is looking forward to his future visits! We LOVE all of them!

I called the office six times before finally reaching a live person. When I requested not to be put on hold, I was placed on hold regardless. After the individual returned to the line, I asked why, and her reply was, "What do you want, I am busy." I pointed out her rudeness, and she promptly hung up on me. My subsequent calls went unanswered. When I called later in the day, someone picked up the phone, but it seemed to be an accidental pickup, as I could hear an unrelated conversation between the receptionist and a patient, which I found odd. I have been a patient at this office for over 30 years and have never experienced any issues until now. However, I have concluded that the current frontline employees are incapable of providing professional service or even basic politeness, so I will be seeking care from a new eye provider. I attempted to call the office to speak with the office manager to request that my medical records be sent to another medical professional. I was informed the office manager was unavailable and that someone named Helen would contact me regarding my records; however, I have still received no communication from the office.

I had the good fortune of having Dr. Hovanesian perform two back-to-back eye surgeries on me. The…read morefirst one, for cataracts; the second one a vitrectomy to repair a macular hole, both on the same left eye. I felt compelled to write to you about this doctor and his professional skills. Having surgery on my eyes was something I never imagined having to do, and I was very afraid of any such surgery. You can imagine how I felt when I found out I needed to have two surgeries. However, Dr. Hovanesian made me feel safe and secure immediately. Of course, meeting the doctor and feeling this way does not necessarily translate into having a good surgery experience. Fortunately for me, that feeling was again felt when I had the cataract surgery and I sensed him in control and totally knowing what he was doing. That surgery went without a hitch, as did the recuperation. For the second surgery, 15 days later, I was a little more apprehensive because I knew it lasted much longer and I had difficulty getting sedated for the first one. Again, Dr. Hovanesian made me feel at ease and he spoke with the anesthesiologist about the need to make me feel comfortable. Surprisingly, that surgery was even easier than the first, as my sedation worked better than expected. Dr. Hovanesian gave me clear instructions about positioning and cautions, and at the one month evaluation, we were both elated that the hole had closed! I have every expectation that I will get good vision results as I'm already experiencing some of that as the gas bubble in my eye recedes. Dr. Hovanesian also has excellent bedside manners. I felt he really cared about his patients and is very compassionate. He also knows how to control people like me, who can be quite pushy at times! As if all of the foregoing were not enough, I interacted with his staff at three of his offices: Sherman Oaks, Glendale and Hollywood, and everyone was professional, courteous and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Hovanesian to anyone, and have already done so to my friends in California.

I had a horrible experience with this office, and this is your warning to stay away…read more I was extremely clear that I did NOT want NAD+ added to my treatment because it was not being billed through insurance and I did not agree to pay for it separately. I never received a separate NAD+ IV, and at no point was I clearly told that NAD+ was being added to my regular IV bag. Then afterward, I was sent a $250 invoice for NAD+ that I do not believe I ever received. When I questioned the charge, I was suddenly told that the NAD+ had supposedly been mixed into my regular IV bag. That explanation makes absolutely no sense based on what was communicated to me during the appointment. I specifically declined this treatment. If something is being added to a patient's IV, especially something they already said they did not want and would not pay for, that should be clearly explained and consented to beforehand -- not claimed afterward once a bill is questioned. The communication and billing surrounding this were completely unacceptable and seriously damaged my trust in this provider. Patients should know exactly what is being put into their IV and exactly what they are agreeing to pay for before treatment begins. Based on my experience, I would absolutely stay away from this office.
