I had a pair of sunglasses that got badly scratched after accidentally dropping them frontside. I really liked these aviator sunglasses I got about ten years ago and didn't want to pay full price for a complete replacement and Specstacular Fine Eyewear did a great job on the repair! Overall it was around $50 if I remember correctly. When I walked in and asked for help the service was friendly from the start. They can call and/or text you to notify you when the repair is done and mine was done in about a little over a week (they had to order the new lenses first). After looking at 8 other places, I purchased a pair of glasses at Spectacular. They have a nice selection of glasses and Steve, the owner helped me find a pair well suited to my face and style. He was by far the most affordably priced on the prescription and he didn't try upsell me extras that I didn't need. Steve is an old school craftsperson. I wear progressives and he took the time to make sure the lenses would be in the right place and that they fit comfortably. He has all the high end glasses including many models of my favorite Persol sunglasses. He also can get any frame you like. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I had to share this experience because it was just shocking and unexpected. I'm very near-sighted and wear a pair of old glasses from ic! berlin (the frame was around $600). I usually only wear them at night after I take off my contact lenses. Preparing for my ICL surgery, I needed to stay out of contacts for two weeks, so I went to Specstacular to secure my wobbly glasses. I was willing to pay for the repair since I'd be using them exclusively Steve broke my glasses immediately. He completely snapped off the part that is supporting one of the legs. To be honest, I was just shocked and didn't know what to do. I was going to rely on those glasses exclusively for the next two weeks. Steve offered zero remedy. Both him and Nancy were defensive and condescending claiming that my glasses were too old and they were broken already. They refused to fix, compensate or honestly do anything to make the situation better. I ended up literally needing my husband's help getting home without my glasses. After we got home, my husband fixed my glasses with super glue within an hour. Though I couldn't fold them, at least I could wear them. If you go to Specstacular, remember: when things go well, it's great, but when they don't, it's suddenly your fault. read more

I have to rave about the iGreen frames I got here! I'm very particular about my frames, as I've worn glasses daily for about 40 years and they're like part of my face. After searching through about 15 eyewear shops in Pasadena and LA, a friend suggested Specstacular. I'd been past it a hundred times, but it's so tiny and the frames in the window seemed ho-hum. But I went in, described what I like in glasses, and they immediately set me up with 4 frames that were pretty darn good--and the ones I chose, which are hands-down the BEST EVER. The iGreens are flattering, unbelievably lightweight (important for a strong scrip like mine), and stylish but super-durable, thanks in part to the flexible temples (earpieces) that snap on-off and come in lots of colors (I got 3!) to switch things up. When you can't decide on a color, and have little kids and friends who tend to whack you in the face, these are a godsend; no more nose pieces (and nose) out of joint, plus I can match my glasses to my mood. ALSO--as if that weren't enough--magnetic clip-on polarized sunglasses! And their materials and fabrication are supposedly more eco-friendly than regular frames. All these features and quality aren't cheap, but they are a very good value. I've had mine for almost 2 years and just ordered new clip-ons (I scratched the first ones) and a new temples color for fun. And the staff at Specstacular are good. They're small, so they have to juggle when multiple customers come in and the phone is ringing, but they're nice and professional and have excellent taste and skill in fitting frames to the client, both aesthetically and literally. read more

After a painstaking search on yelp for someone who was able to add nosepads to plastic frames, it has finally come to an end!! It's hard to find a pair of plastic frames that would fit me since I'm Asian and we have very low nose bridges. I came in on Friday around 4:50th and Steven was able to get this job done in less than an hour! He did a fantastic job as well. You can trust him with this modification since he's started doing this in the 70's and has done thousands in that time. The way he handled and adjusted my glasses you can tell he has so much experience. I'll definitely be coming back to visit Steven to get my glasses needs taken care of. I walked in here not really knowing what types of frames I wanted at all. There were a few frames out on display, but not very many, considering it is an eyewear store. I was about ready to leave when the owner called out to me and asked if I had a few minutes. He examined my face and asked me about my current glasses. Then, like magic, he turned to one of the enclosed wooden cabinets and pulled out the perfect pair of glasses for me! He keeps the many of his frames hidden, and extracts only the pairs that are right for you. I don't know how he remembers every pair he has in there, but it was a magical process and I am not going to question it. We tried on a few but the first pair was still my favorite. It is pricey, but they are glasses after all and I wear them on my face every single day, so I was willing to splurge. The owner was really accommodating and provided me with all the documentation I would need to get reimbursed by my insurance (They do not directly accept any insurance). The true judge of a business is not how they act when things go well but how they perform when things don't go according to plan. Steve accidentally broke my frames and proved to be severely lacking in the basic skills to properly remedy his situation. He switched from the nice 5-star business owner that I was expecting to a rude, defensive, and condescending clerk. After he broke my frames, his only consolation was that my frames were cheap and he wouldn't charge me for the lenses. He only offered to cover half of the cost of replacement after much persuasion on my part.  He insisted that he will only compensate after I show him the receipt. It's dishonest people that are the least trustworthy. And I hope any readers heed this experience as their fair warning. read more

I broke my glasses and was looking on yelp for a place to get them fixed. This places was around the corner from me so I chose them first. Walked in and the woman who works there looked at my glasses for less than a second and said "this can't be fixed". I could tell by the way she looked at me, and my cheap Polo frames that I was not their desired demographic. I took the same glasses to Paul Gross repair shop in Glendale, and he was able to fix them just fine for $17. I am sure if I was in the market for some new and expensive glasses these people would have been a lot more helpful. However, I am not likely to go there when I want new glasses since they couldn't be bothered to help me today. They probably should not be listed under repair since that doesn't seem to be one of their services. read more

I've been going to Steve's shop for years and very happy about the high quality of care Steve and his assistants give in helping me pick my frames and making sure both glasses and sunglasses are the perfect fit. Steve will adjust glasses when they're ready for pick up, he takes his time to make sure the fit is right for you. I've gone in when glasses need re-adjustment as I wear progressives and they will need readjustments from time to time. Steve is a great guy and we catch up on our news while waiting, him and his assistants are very friendly and I would never go anywhere else for my eyeglass needs. Let me start by saying the the last time my wife and I looked for a set of frames for me, it took the better part of 6 months of periodically trying different eyeglass frame shops with no luck. Steve had me figured out and me ( and more importantly my wife) happy with a new set of Oliver Peoples frames within 15 minutes. Boom. Steve is a really nice, and very professional small business owner who sells excellent quality products in a wide variety. Most of his stock is in a set of really nice wood drawers that he expertly pulls from rather than relying on me mauling pair, after pair, after pair randomly. He asked a few questions and sized me up and brought out a set of maybe 7 frames that were a great match for me color-wise and shape-wise. As has been stated in other reviews, he makes the lenses onsite and the turnaround time is crazy fast compared to a typical optometry or volume seller like Costco or Lenscrafters. Further, he didn't try to sell me a ton of extraneous horse sh#$ like smudge protection and the rest. He patiently explained what each coating was and how each add-on performs and suggested that I stick with a sensible set of options that didn't break the bank. I got a beautiful set of Oliver Peoples frames, a brand that I've avoided in the past due to their very high (perceived) price point. I didn't comparison shop the frames that I got but suffice it to say that they (frames and lenses) ended up costing me around what I paid for a cheaply built set of Chinese made frames and offsite lab-produced lenses at an optometrist. Let that sink in. Oliver Peoples hand made in Italy frames, lenses made by the shop selling me the frames so I can have confidence that any issues can and will be resolved quickly, all for as much or less than what I paid for a set of low quality frames made in a mill in China, with lenses made in some offsite lab. You need more you say? How about supporting a small, local business owned and run by a really nice guy. That should do it for you. read more

I was in Pasadena recently and my glasses needed adjusting. I went on Yelp and discovered Specstacular. The man in the store was professional and friendly. He happily fixed my glasses, cleaned them and took great care of a customer from out of town that he likely will not see again. I live in San Francisco. I've been wearing glasses since I was 4 years old and I have had my fair share of bad frames. It builds tremendous amounts of character to wear ugly pink plastic frames to school in the 2nd grade, but you also gain an appreciation for attractive frames. I finally scored a stylish pair in middle school at the Focal Point in Berkeley, but I have been at a loss since I moved to LA. Specstacular is a wonderful glasses shop in downtown Pasadena with tons of character and selection. The owner is very nice and talked to my friend and I for awhile when I was picking out my frames. He also provides very high quality lens which is a must when you are a daily glasses wearer like myself. The prices are a little bit steep but worth it for something that you are going to wear day in and day out. I bought a pair of red plastic frames with rhinestones which are absolutely fabulous! Wonderful shop run by a wonderful person. I came here a couple days ago to try to get corrective nose pads for these glasses I purchased recently, and got a much better result. The owner, Steve, took a look at my frames and took the time to fully adjust the entire frame. I'm not talking about slightly adjusting the sides or the bridge; he adjusted the entire frame to have a completely different fit. The luxury frame now has a more sporty fit. Steve is also a very friendly person as well. We spoke for a while about my hometown in Honolulu, and his experiences there. We also talked about a great many other things. I probably would have stuck around longer to chat, but I had to head back to the office. He is very engaging in conversation. The store has a great selection of different frames. There is a tasteful array of various frames. I'll probably stop by when it is time for new frames for sure. I came in with quite a pedestrian request, and I got a masterful response. read more

I got the best glasses in 20 years from Specstacular, frame and lens. Steve not only narrowed down my choices to what fit my face and my style preferences, he noticed that I needed more reading area in my progressive lenses. His very nice assistant helped me with the final choice and the paperwork. I received a check from my insurance company before the glasses were ready! When I picked them up, Steve took a long time fitting them to my head, making sure they were a correct fit and not too loose or too tight. I can see and read so much easier now and I love the way they look. It took no adjustment time to the new prescription. My husband is getting his next pair there. Specstacular is five-star all the way. I happened upon them when on a business trip in Pasadena from Berkeley, and what a lucky stroke that was. (Funny, as it seems I'm not the only customer actually from Northern CA that wishes this shop was up here!!) I'm super picky when it comes to frames and they had such an impressively diverse selection of super stylish options. Nancy assisted me with the frames and did a great job of finding just the right ones in a matter of minutes. I love them! The owner had been out on jury duty but did all the followup work after my order was submitted--which he handled with such expertise and genuine care. Steve made sure my lenses were perfect--discovering that they accidentally came back from the lab without the coating he requested--and he had that fixed right away. He also went out of his way to find the frame color I like which we discovered later was being discontinued. To top it off, once I got the frames & lenses they were so crystal clear it helped me realize that my right-eye prescription actually had changed in the last year. I felt so badly about this after all the trouble he had gone to. But when I called Steve generously offered to have the lenses corrected without so much as a hesitation.
