Hello ! So I want to say a huge thank you to Rick, he saved my glasses . I was in a pinch . I first went to Warby Parker ... that's were I got them about 2 years ago . But Warby Parker used superglue. On my hinges . I tried to open them & they broke instantly. I searched google and found Old Focals . Spoke with Jessica . I decided to come in , as I was curious, to see if they can be saved. . So made my way over , and within 10 minutes Rick had them better than new ! I've been buying the same frames (different colors...mind your manners) from Old Focals for almost 15 years. They used to be on Green in Pasadena but I "stalked" them when they moved to S. Pasadena and still buy the same frames (different colors I said). I'll go to my grave wearing these frames (yes, different colors). Love this place!!!! Oh yeah, it's the same frames Al Pacino wore in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", except I wore them years before Pacino, AND Old Focals literally provided the frames for the movie! read more

I am so happy that I stopped in this place a few years ago for my new frames! They have a selection like nowhere else, including some of the most unique and well made frames I've ever seen! Most importantly, the customer service is 10000/10 fantastic. The owner Russ and employees have repaired damage that I've caused without any fuss & free of charge. I absolutely love my glasses! I booked a appointment yesterday confirming I will be coming between 10 to 11 am the next day, so when I came no one was there altho the sign says its open and I kept calling and knocking on window in a hope someone will answer but nobody did. This place helped me fix my broken sunglasses in 10 minutes. Three other optometry offices turned me away and said they couldn't help me because my lens would only fit in a gold trim (which is missing). Pictures attached. The glasses they sent me had asymmetrical lenses. It was as if they cut one lens too short. The asymmetry was noticeable because the rims were even with the lens on one side and not on the other. It looked amateurish. I sent them back for repair, and they tried to fix the issue but didn't. I asked for a refund. Then they tried to fix it a second time, which I didn't ask for. It looks like they rotated the bad lens for better alignment with the rims, but as a result of doing so, now the hole they drilled in that lens is misaligned with the screw. What a mess. I wish they would have offered to recut that lens instead of trying to salvage it. They ended up refunding me for the frames only, so I was out $250. (Beware, semi-rimless lenses cost $60-$80 more than advertised on their website.) I'm upset that I ate the whole cost for the lenses when it was their manufacturing error. read more

I'm kind of surprised by the $$$ rating because most of the frames I saw when I visited this past Sunday were under $200. The friend I was with asked where a few acetate pairs were made and the guy behind the counter mentioned China. I guess that could account for why those pairs in particular were around $150? I know a lot of these optical shops don't automatically advertise prices, but I think it would help to have little tags on pairs of glasses just so folks will have an idea. I noticed that more of the truly vintage frames were located in the wood shelving at the back wall and tucked away in a corner. Do yourself a favor and don't forget to open some of the drawers because there are more frames there, too! I fell in love with quite a few styles, but timed my trip a little poorly and didn't have a current prescription for 2019. Bummer. The yellow pair (see photos) has been a recurring visitor in my dreams... I just may have to fly back to LA! read more

I sat on my pair of Brownies with prescription lenses and came to see if they had a pair of frames that were the same size. Ric not only found me matching frames but he took out my old lenses and put them into my new frames. And it wasn't easy. It took him a while to get one side in but he wouldn't give up and finally conquered. After all that, he made me a deal, since the original frames were purchased at Old Focals, too. Another excellent experience and an example of why I keep coming back. Plus, some great vintage garage band music. While I was there I heard a song by The Monks (!) My dad passed away last year and while going through his things, I found that he had saved all of his old prescription glasses including some really great sunglasses. I took them into the geniuses here and they replaced the prescription lens with regular ones. I perused their vast collection of vintage frames while I waited and was floored with the selection. I hate to have to do this but the last few times I have visited old Focals I seem to be bothering the owner and the employees. Even before the pandemic, the customer service has really gone down hill and so have the quality of the frames and the selection. I am happy that they have a great business going with supplying the movie industry with frames, however don't forget the people that have support you along the way, such as me for the last 12 years. I bought these vintage oversized frame that was made in the 1970s. The shop I got the glasses from told me that Old Focals were experts when it comes to vintage glasses. Also heard that the owner have the rep for great fitting. I walked in and met Russ and Adeline. They were helpful and attentive. Very nice people. They told me that it will be done in a week. They called me less than a week to tell me that they were done even though I gave it to them during the 4th of July holiday weekend. I was impressed by how it turned out. I love my glasses. Russ adjusted them. I came back the same day to have Adeline readjust them. I have already been recommending this place to everyone. That is how satisfied I was. By the way, they have great selection of stylish glasses. Super organized, clean and fun store. The price is very reasonable. I would have paid $80 more if I went somewhere else. Went here to get some sunglasses and Ended up getting an extra pair of glasses too. Seriously I met at least three different Employees,all of them freakishly nice. When I picked up my glasses I realized I need a mom mistake in color choice, super cool for someone younger than me but not that great when I got them home. I hesitated taking them back because it was 100% my fault for choosing the wrong color. When I went back I asked if I could get a different color frame it took them about five minutes to pop them out and drop them in to a beautiful pair of tortoise Frames. So happy I'm going back as soon as I get paid to buy another pair of glasses. The selection is vast and they have some super groovy stuff. Great staff, great products, customer service is stellar. I love this place.

While I have loved their frames, today's experience with customer service ends my willingness to leave my hard earned dollars with Old Focals. I called, my glasses were ready and I was told that they are open until 6pm (regular Thursday hours). I drive from the West Valley to Pasadena and arrive just before 4pm and find another customer who had also driven quite a distance and arrived to an "Out of office, will return at 4:10" sign. At close to 4:40pm not one but two staff members come walking to re-open the store holding a box of pizza acting as if nothing was wrong or off. When I asked about the sign showing a return time of 4:10 I was given a "sorry", there was nothing they could do. Not only did I immediately ask how they might make up for this terrible inconvenience but asked why one staff member couldn't have stayed behind. I was told that they had a big run to FedEx and they had too many boxes. The only box I saw was filled with pizza. I was treated like I had no right to be bothered. I was vocal but not rude. Got no understanding but guilted for not being more sympathetic to "staff shortages". With that comment I simply asked again why one person didn't stay behind. Their apology was insincere at best and knowing the profit margins on eyewear is extreme I simply cannot in these times leave my money with them. I asked for a full refund and won't return as a customer again. read more

Came in on a Sunday when most shops were closed for a much needed repair. The gents working were very welcoming and took it upon themselves to resolve my issue. They definitely did that and 10 minutes later I was out the door with a fresh pair of glasses good as new. I asked how much and they said $5. Adeline sat and tinkered with my glasses -- heating and bending and tightening -- while I made attempts at small talk and browsed their frame selection. They have some really amazing antique frames, particularly for women. Beautiful, ornate designs that I've never seen before. They also have a lot of nice-looking sunglasses and more common, modern frames for both men and women.
