    Wonderful decor and glasses

Great selection, lovely and unique frames at reasonable prices. Great service too. We got one pair for my husband. Will be back!

If you can see the sign says its open.

I booked a appointment yesterday confirming I will be coming between 10 to 11 am the next day, so when I came no one was there altho the sign says its open and I kept calling and knocking on window in a hope someone will answer but nobody did. I believe its not fair to waste someone's time and drive I did to come get my glasses fixed.

This place helped me fix my broken sunglasses in 10 minutes. Three other optometry offices turned me away and said they couldn't help me because my lens would only fit in a gold trim (which is missing). Pictures attached. Ross at Old Focals helped me and was able to find a solution, carve out the right lens, and fix my sunglasses on the spot for a super reasonable price. Also - the shop is super dope.

    glasses originally sent to me

The glasses they sent me had asymmetrical lenses. It was as if they cut one lens too short. The asymmetry was noticeable because the rims were even with the lens on one side and not on the other. It looked amateurish. I sent them back for repair, and they tried to fix the issue but didn't. I asked for a refund. Then they tried to fix it a second time, which I didn't ask for. It looks like they rotated the bad lens for better alignment with the rims, but as a result of doing so, now the hole they drilled in that lens is misaligned with the screw. What a mess. I wish they would have offered to recut that lens instead of trying to salvage it. They ended up refunding me for the frames only, so I was out $250. (Beware, semi-rimless lenses cost $60-$80 more than advertised on their website.) I'm upset that I ate the whole cost for the lenses when it was their manufacturing error.

I'm kind of surprised by the $$$ rating because most of the frames I saw when I visited this past Sunday were under $200. The friend I was with asked where a few acetate pairs were made and the guy behind the counter mentioned China. I guess that could account for why those pairs in particular were around $150? I know a lot of these optical shops don't automatically advertise prices, but I think it would help to have little tags on pairs of glasses just so folks will have an idea. I noticed that more of the truly vintage frames were located in the wood shelving at the back wall and tucked away in a corner. Do yourself a favor and don't forget to open some of the drawers because there are more frames there, too! I fell in love with quite a few styles, but timed my trip a little poorly and didn't have a current prescription for 2019. Bummer. The yellow pair (see photos) has been a recurring visitor in my dreams... I just may have to fly back to LA!

I'm an aging guy, on a limited budget, who went from decades of scraping by with non-prescription…read morereaders to finally accepting that I needed four pairs of specialized prescription glasses--for reading, for sitting in front of computers for hours on end, and for distance both indoors and outdoors (sunglasses). After resisting wearing glasses for so long, and, let's face it, being a little vain, I wasn't a good candidate for progressives despite the practical and economic considerations. Trying to wrap my head around an expanding universe of frames and lenses in every shape and price range after being so resistant for so long was overwhelming. I'd gone to all the usual suspect shops in Old Town Pasadena, where parking is always a challenge, as is finding a knowledgeable and caring employee working on an hourly wage, without coming close to making a purchase. One day I was driving down Colorado Boulevard, stopped at a light, when I spied Brighter Optical and its spacious, free parking lot. I'd never heard of the shop, but thought why not, I might as well give it a shot. I was warmly greeted by owner Raymond Yu himself. I immediately felt comfortable in his small but well-stocked shop. Then I was immersed in a lengthy consultation with someone who had unlimited patience for my long list of questions, who spoke in soothing tones that put me even more at ease. It was so much better talking to an owner with a lifetime of experience and the ability to negotiate multiple purchases than an hourly employee with no real stake in the outcome. Not only did Raymond know everything there was to know about frames and lenses, he knew how to break it all down into easily digestible concepts that I could grasp even though English is just one of the languages he speaks fluently. Better yet, he filtered all that knowledge into personalized recommendations which rang so true I had no qualms about pulling the trigger on the sale. When the dust settled, Brighter Optical had a customer for life, while I came away with four pairs of flattering glasses for every purpose that exceeded the most fervent hope I had for my budget--and a new friend.

Upon discovering the doc I went to previously are closed on Wednesdays -- I thankfully found this wonderful practice in nearby South Pas. I called around 11;30am same day fully prepared that they may not have availability on a moments notice, especially for a new patient. Mia was able to secure an appointment for a few hours later. Their office is in a very quaint building that has easy parking w/ many close conveniences that my husband took advantage of while waiting (USPS, Starbucks and Trader Joe's!). I was kindly greeted by their receptionist (sorry forgot her name). The intake by Noah was thoughtful and comprehensive. Dr Tsai was prompt, thorough and professional -- communicating clearly what the issue was and how it will be remedied in a way a normal person would understand! Unfortunately, my health and optical insurances were out of network but the out of pocket visit fee was reasonable. They were very forthright on this aspect prior to my appointment taking place which I appreciate. They offered to try it anyways but I declined since upfront was reasonable. Diagnosis was a small corneal ulcer! Could have got so much worse if I didn't go in when I did. Extremely grateful for the team here. Efficient, transparent, comfortable, knowledgeable, and caring. I guess I'm an established patient now! :)

Every year, I'd get my eye exam elsewhere, uploaded my prescription and placed my order with Warby…read more I have ordered contacts from Warby back in 2020/2021 and the subsequent years just glasses from them because it was faster to get my contacts directly from my optometrist. I've been very pleased with their glasses. However, this year I decided to have my eye exam with Warby (Pasadena location). It was a huge mistake. Prior to the exam, the technician gathered basic information and then took digital retinal images (six total). Then I had my eye exam with the doctor. The retinal images were not reviewed or discussed during the exam and I forgot to ask about them. That's not how it should be done. At all of previous eye exams, my optometrist always review the retinal images with me regarding my eye health. Anyways, the doctor said my vision hasn't changed so my prescription will be the same. So they checked me out and I placed my contacts order too. A few days later the contacts arrived and that's when I discovered the contacts don't match my current prescription (expired January 2026). Instead, they match the prescription from 2020/2021. The new contacts I received is based off of a prescription from 2020/2021. Warby only has my contacts prescription from 2020/2021, which I had uploaded back then to order contacts. Since then the newer prescriptions that they have on record are for glasses only. It appears that from this eye exam with Warby, they simply created a new prescription based off of my 2020/2021 prescription. All the numbers (lens power, etc.) are identical. Warby gave me an old and wrong prescription and the imaging was never even discussed and refusing to issue a refund.
