He is cool, laid back yet friendly and has such a wide array of cool and elevated frames and can add your prescription and any color tint you can image or even custom made sunglasses clip on for your eyeglasses. As Silver Lake reinvents itself, or rather is forcibly reinvented by massive offshore investment and development, corporate chain stores, and property owners evicting small business to bring in higher rents, one of the most important things that is being lost in the shuffle... is kindness. That low key feeling of human connection that is the lifeblood of small business, but is often lost when you're dealing with hourly employees. I first checked out Durant Sessions with a friend and was moved by their selection. Of special note are the brand Eyevan, whose Japanese designs remind me of something Sato from Black Rain would wear, precise titanium but elegant and warm, and some incredible NOS Oliver Peoples pieces. I haven't bought anything from Durant, yet. And this is where the kindness comes in. The first time I came in, my friend and I were talking to Johnny, the owner, who is a warm, welcoming and knowledgeable dude, when I realized that my vintage French helicopter pilot glasses were about to fall apart and that I needed a pro to screw them back together. Johnny did this on the spot, no charge, and even cleaned them up better than I'll ever be able to. So yesterday, when I found myself in a situation of needing lenses moved from a cracked pair of frames to a new one, I called another local optometrist, who needed to ask if that was something they could do, told me I'd need to sign a waiver, and was going to call me back. (Still waiting on that call._ Then I remembered Durant. I rang Johnny, and not only was he available to do it that afternoon -- he'd again do it free of charge. The whole endeavor took about 8 minutes and now I can see again. Thank you, Johnny. So now I'm a dedicated customer. And it isn't about money. It's a bigger picture relationship. I got some time to dive into the selection, which is really awesome. Lots of range and really elevated styles, and a comfortable, warm environment. One interesting thing we talked about is adding a custom flip-up sunglass piece (like a clip-on) to a frame, which is really intriguing. Will explore this when I return. May kindness once again rule, and may more people discover Durant Sessions and Johnny. read more

But I have never experienced such a high quality of service both in respect of optical advice and in choosing eyeware. The range and quality of the eyewear is fabulous. There is something for a large range of tastes and budgets. But what truly sets Durant Sessions apart from the competition is the quality of the advice provided by the store's manager. She is exceptionally well qualified, very helpful but never intrusive. She puts her customers' interests first. There iis never any pressure to buy. For the past few years I have been obsessed with Eyevan glasses and finally bought a pair here a few years ago. They were more money than I wanted to spend, but I'm so happy I bought them. As you could imagine, I was really sad when the frames snapped a few weeks ago, but Johnny fixed them up right up quickly as part of their warranty. Durant Sessions is probably my favorite optical boutique. I've gone in a few times with my boyfriend, mainly for him to pick out frames, but I found a really special pair of Andy Wolf frames that Johnny helped me pick out. You can really tell he cares about you making the right purchase by taking the time to ask exactly what you're looking for and which brands are best and most affordable. I never get this genuine and friendly service from a large commercial optical store, so it's really refreshing to visit a special place like this. Also his vinyl record collection is on point! Great shop with a truly fantastic selection of frames! I've brought in a few different frames to get lenses made for, with the most recent being a pair of vintage Oliver Peoples that I wanted sun lenses put in. Not only did they take great care of my frames, they had new old stock lens blanks from the same manufacturer OP used in the '90s. The frames came out PERFECT!
