We ran in here right before they closed because my daughter's glasses frames broke at summer camp. We got a new set of frames to fit the lenses in under 5 minutes and they look great! Such a lovely experience. Cannot recommend Optical Solutions enough if you need something fixed. Great service. So fast. The nicest woman helped us. We were in and out so quickly that I didn't even get her name! She made sure they fit and felt right. She even adjusted the ears. Just fantastic! read more

This place is wonderful. Some of the best choices of frames i have ever seen. They have the best quality I think. From the moment you walk into the really cool looking place you are greeted warmly. Cindy has always been there helping to select the perfect frames for me. And the optometrist is super kind and very thorough with the eye exam. I highly recommend this place. Be ready to spend a lot of time and $$$. When I went on a Saturday with an appointment, they appeared to be wayy overbooked. So it's a long wait in the very busy waiting room, a wait to be seen by the doctor, then a wait for the next steps. Speaking of which, once I was done seeing the doctor, it felt like I was suddenly being sold a car--and the contacts I was prescribed and urged to order on the spot are WILDLY overpriced, even with insurance. I like to support local businesses, which is why I don't buy my contacts online. But the markup here is bananas. Especially compared to my last optometrist, where insurance mostly covered my contacts! And there was no transparency about how much each box cost. Frames also are quite expensive and mostly on the designer end. Echoing another Yelper, just getting written-out prescriptions was not easy, which is absolutely should be. All in all, I didn't get out until 2+ hours later. I will say that Dr. Lim seems to be a really caring, thorough doctor. But the commerce part of this practice feels like a hard sell. read more

I live in the neighborhood and decided to walk into Optical Solution without appointment looking for answers prior to my surgery. Felt really weird, like a hustle, to go for an eye exam and not have them give you a copy of your prescription upon exit. After having this experience with Cindy from Optical Solution in 2016/17/18 for my annual I found out it's actually illegal. In 2018 I directly asked for my prescription and was told by Cindy they had it and I wouldn't need it. Asking agin Cindy huffed and threw open my file and told me to read the chicken scratch on the doctors report. I took a picture but the prescription was illegible to any glass shops I went. Also found out I was overprescribed to progressive lenses (by dr. Lim and Cindy) when I have a very mild prescription for only far-sided-ness. Was lied to, taken advantage of, and criminally victimised at Optical Solutions. Thought the exam was good, but that probably was a hustle too. read more

Love this neighborhood Optometrist. All the staff are super friendly and the doctors know what's up. They explain everything to you so you actually know what's going on in your eyes. I made the mistake of going to the optometrist in the Costco on Los Feliz and they f*ed up big time. Gave me the complete wrong prescription. Came here and got everything sorted out. TLDR: Dr. was fine. Front desk sales tactics and prices felt obnoxious. I was greeted at the front desk where Cindy looked up my insurance, asked what I wanted, and told me that the insurance copay for exam would be $10 and the insurance would cover new frames and that I have contact lens coverage too. I said "great", and I went in for the exam and chose frames with her guiding me. The doctor was professional, nice and fast. Then I went back up front and Cindy asked me for $1,000. I was literally speechless for a bit. 20 minutes of arguing later, she dropped the bill to the insurance copay total of $70, including contact lens fitting that the Dr. already did. I had to ask for written prescriptions, but it was given to me without pupillary distance. I do not intend to go back here, and after the kind of pushy salesy feeling, I'm going to be watching my credit card statement like a hawk. I think Silverlake Optometry with Dr Kahwaji (right down the road) was much better - I went there for my last exam and glasses, with the same insurance about two years ago, and they charged me less than $100 out of pocket including glasses. I would have gone back to Silverlake Optometry except that they're still closed due to covid-19 at the moment. read more

Dr. Tran and Cindy are the best team ever. I have been to many eye doctors and none have compared to this dynamic duo. I was in need to new glasses and contacts after noticing that my lasik was wearing off. It was beginning to become harder for me to stare at the screen at work and driving at night was becoming a pain in the ass because of all the glares of the headlights. Of course I turned to yelp to check any nearby optometrist in the area and stumbled across all the great reviews for Optical Solution. I called and booked my appointment, which was super easy. Dr. Tran was so knowledgeable and thorough during my eye exam. She made sure I was happy with my new prescription and took the time to make sure I was happy myself. After hearing how my lasik doctor took my eye correction to another level, it made my eyesight shift to become farsighted. I was so pissed but with Dr. Tran's ability to correctly diagnose me with multifocals and readers (yes I know at 27! yikes). I was happy with their service and Cindy took care of all the hassle which was the insurance part. They have really competitive prices and all their glasses are super stylish and up to date with trends. I highly recommend them. You can park in the parking lot next to the store, it's for trader joes but I usually head over and buy a granola bar or some juice just so I don't feel so guilty using their parking lot. I hope to return in a year to get my checkup! read more

I have been going to this business long before they moved across the street. We had picked our favorite OD but he left and they now have only Dr Leyen Lim. Yesterday I went in for my yearly exam and it did not go as expected. I was on time and after a few preliminary, automated exams by Cindy was told to wait in the waiting area. Dr Lim showed up 10 minutes later. I was again the first guy after lunch and again I waited for her--happened last time. No worries. Deep breath. She called me into the office and everything was cordial and she asked the usual questions and I told her that the prescription she gave me two years ago for my reading glasses was still good but if she wanted to test my eyes again for new glasses then ok. They have this new semi-automated device that you peer into and get the usual: This one or that one? The device started malfunctioning and she didn't know how to get it to work. Finally she started fumbling with some ancient thing you put on your face and she manually I guess switches out the lenses until she finds the correct ones. I was getting frustrated being there and told her that since my glasses were fine couldn't we just skip this part. The temperature in the room went up about 20* and she started slamming papers around and I said that I needed to just leave. She said something like: He is refusing an exam. Got really weird in just a few seconds and as I was leaving and she was escorting me out I said something I've never said out loud: I guess I need to find another doctor and then she said: Yes you do. This was the most unprofessional encounter I've ever had with a doctor in all my years. She escalated it to get out in just a few minutes. When I went back to Cindy's area, she was very surprised. At least she didn't charge me. read more

Dr. Leyen made sure that we were right on with our prescriptions and helped us make sure that our eyes were healthy. I was having a problem for some time with my eyes not being wet enough which she was able to diagnose and helped me with a treatment plan that was affordable. She explained what my condition was and why I have it. It's been a while since my last visit to the optometrist and I'm glad I came here! Great and friendly staff. They're always ready to help if I had any questions. I'm usually nervous when I get my eyes checked but, Dr. Tran made everything enjoyable and quick! There's a variety of frames to choose from and the prices are great as well! This location is surprising a lot more clean than other optometry that I've been to in the past. Location is convenient, and parking was a breeze. Wonderful, expert, friendly service. I went in to Optical Solutions to get a pair of glasses repaired. Even though I did not purchase the glasses at Optical Solutions, Cindy did not charge me because she said it was a simple repair. While I was there, I saw a few pairs of frames that I really liked -- they have an awesome selection to suit most any style and budget. I was given very honest advice about which framed did and did not look good on me. Because I was due for new glasses, I opted for the frame that I really liked. I went to my optometrist for an exam, and brought in my prescription. Again, escription from my optometrist, brought it to OS, and Cindy took great care of me. She was very thorough in the way she measured for my progressive lenses. My glasses were ready before the promised date. The pricing was extremely competitive with other opticians, and I was given an additional discount on the lenses to compensate for my insurance policy not covering any portion of my frames. The service, friendliness and expertise I experienced were well beyond any expectations. I am very pleased, and am a confirmed customer. read more

Really happy with my experience here! I first came in for a regular check-up and Cindy helped me pick out a great pair of new frames. Then I came back for a contacts fitting, and both the doctor and Cindy coached me through the process of putting in contacts for the first time. ***If you've never done it before, it's a little nervewracking to put a foreign object directly on your eyeball for the first time ... but extra kudos to Cindy for offering tips and coaching, and being incredibly warm and encouraging even though my multiple tries to put in contacts took her past closing time! We've been going to Cindy at Optical Solutions for almost 10 years now, and have watched her go above and beyond the call of duty multiple times when one of us either screwed up ("Cindy! I lost my glasses three days before my overseas trip!"), became impatient ("What do you mean my new lenses aren't in yet?? It's been 48 hours!!") or needed something fixed on the fly ("Cindy, I sat on these - can you make them right?") She is always friendly, funny and willing to help, which is why, as I'm finally remembering to write a review after ordering a new pair of sunglasses yesterday, I'm glancing at the isolated yellow-starred reviews and shaking my head. Some people. I mean, the opthamologist at Optical Solutions is cool, the selection of frames on any given day is right on, and the prices, while not rock bottom, are reasonable. We too worried that the store had abruptly closed when we saw it emptied, but lo and behold, one phone call to Optical Solutions and that mystery was solved. Optical Solutions has been my go to eye center for our family's eye care for several years. I moved to Redondo Beach recently and we still make the drive to see Dr. Leyen Tran and her awesome staff. Dr Tran is sweet and caring and she really provides great eye care. My husband has an eye disorder and he has been to several different doctors over the years. Dr Tran has been the only dr to correctly diagnose him AND correct his vision! She also cares about the health of your eyes and gives you tips on how to keep them free from bacteria and infection. Love Dr Tran! I also love their office manager Cindy. Cindy is always smiling, funny and great to talk to. She is an asset to their team and they are lucky to have her! Several times, Cindy has helped me to pick out the right frames for my bridge-less asian nose. She somehow picks out the perfect glasses for me every time! FYI, they recently moved across the street. In an effort to support local businesses, I strayed from my normal eyeglass shop to patronize Optical Solution. I've driven past the shop so many times and finally went in - It;s not that I had not stopped before. It's just they have strange hours - not open on Monday at all and close at 2pm on Fri and Sat (and they take an hour for lunch every day!) It should be made clear I am not a new shopper when it comes to correctional lenses. I've been buying glasses since I was a kid (probably purchased over 25 pairs just since I was 18). At first, I was encouraged by their selection. It's as plentiful, if not more so, than many similar shops I've seen. Stylistically, they definitely favor an older crowd (I'm low 40's so I mean older than me). However, I did find a pair that suited me. I purchased them and was told it would be one week until they were ready. That's not unusual in the eyeglass business. If only that held true. It took two weeks. It was frustrating, but, in the end, what's a week, right? Right. Except, I kept being thanked for my patience. I never said, "no problem" or some other phrase that would illicit that statement. The woman there (Cindy) just kept saying it whenever I called. It almost sounded like something she says a lot, ie they probably don't deliver on time as a rule. When I finally did pick them up, I was told the reason it took longer was because when the lenses first came back ( I guess after a week), they were not right and they only accept the best! All in all, the above experience wasn't so bad (would have given 3 stars or more if that was it). It's the next one that merited the 2 stars. I found an older pair of frames that I really liked, but had an old prescription in it. I thought I'd give Optical Solution another chance. I brought the frame in with my current prescription in to have lenses made. Again, I was assured it would be one week. Given the above, I asked if that was for sure. I was assured it would be one week. I called in one week. Cindy told me that the lenses had come in, but there was something wrong with them and now it would be another week.SO, it was two weeks. When I went in to pick them up (finally), Things just didn't look right through them. Given the fact that I've been wearing glasses for most of my life, I knew instantly something was wrong. However, I was told I should live with them for at least 24 hours ( on account of the fact that this particular frame was more curved - that's true), but I knew they just weren't right. I've worn tons of curved glasses. So, after 24 hours, they still were not right. I took them back. I received a phone call later that day that apparently she didn't notice the base curve was incorrect, but, indeed, I was correct about not being able to see correctly. Hey, at least I wasn't crazy. I was told it would now take another week! I'll cut to the chase - it took TWO weeks again!!!! When I finally got them back again (keep in mind it's now been 4 weeks on this), seeing through them still felt wrong. At this point, I thought there was something wrong with me. SO, rather than just blame the shop again, I went to my ophthalmologist (MD). He tested the lenses and told me the prescription in the left eye was .25 off (that's significant BTW) and that the axis was significantly off as well. Thinking I needed as much corroboration as possible, I then brought the lenses to an optometrist friend. He confirmed the same as my doctor. After all this (over 5 weeks of hassle at this point), I decided it was time to bring the lenses back and just get a refund. You gotta know when to fold 'em, as the song goes. So I called CIndy, told her the whole story and asked if I could just return the lenses and get my money back. She said I would have to bring the lenses in so their doctor could check them out. Though I was frustrated by this, I did see the logic in it. I waited two days (since their doctor apparently has stranger hours then the store itself). Upon arrival at the store, I was told I would have to leave them there. When I mentioned my understanding was that he would check them out right away, I was told that was wrong and, besides, the owner would have to decide whether to refund my money or not. I then went over the whole sordid story again and expressed that, if the decision was not in my favor, I would have to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Frankly, I was just sick of it at that point. FINALLY....I got a voice mail saying that they would refund my money, but "thought it would be best to cut all ties." Weird, right? Who says that? Are they breaking up with me? Uh, it's supposed to be business. If I were them, I would have been bending over backwards to apologize, offer me discounts or something. So strange! And, after all that, I didn't even get one last "thanks for your patience!" As Woody Allen has said "the food was terrible...and such small portions!" read more

One of the lenses in my sunglasses popped out and I had no idea what to do. Since this shop is in my neighborhood, I stopped in to see if they could help. I don't know where they hire the staff. These women who work at the store seem to care less about making new/old customers feel welcome. Upon entering, all three female associates were just sitting around the counter talking to each other. They did not even bother to greet me, but kept talking amongst themselves. Their selection of glasses are sup-par, but their customer service and parking is just terrible. Cindy, who claims to check the email, has the worst response time ever. We're living in a new age. If you're not going to pick up the phone, at least make an attempt to check the business email account. Because of their snobbish candor and unwillingness to help, I will never give them ANY business again. Ugh..there is nothing like dealing with low-class, minimum wage paid workers. I have medi-cal so I never expect a whole lot out of anyone I get health care from but I had my appointment for new glasses on April 17 2014 and it is now May 5th 2014 and I called the front desk to see if my glasses were in yet and I was told I have to wait till after she goes to the lab to see if they are in. When I purchased the new pair of glasses on the 17th of April I figured I would have them in about a week. I have a real easy prescription and I always get a #1 blue tint added to the lens for an extra $10. I have been ordering these glasses from various optometrists for over 15 years now & I never had to wait this long and have a front desk staff be so complacent about my prescription glasses. I told them I didn't have anymore pairs of glasses left because I had accidentally sat on my last good pair before I made the first appointment. One of the three front desk attendants said the glasses would take 7-10 days to get them back at their office which comparatively to other places seemed like a long time. She also mentioned that she could put a rush on the order for "no charge" and would get them in 3-7 days. I paid for the glasses and waited for the phone call from them. It never happened. So I went into the office to pick them up on April 28th, 11 days later. When I went to try them on the order was really wrong. I ordered the #1 blue tint which is a barely noticeable tint that looks good for me and helps take out the glare. I had an old pair of glasses that I brought to the initial exam so they could see what I liked. The glasses that came in 11 days later were the right lens but with a super dark coffee colored tint that would have looked awful on me plus they would have been like wearing my sunglasses at night all the time for me and that's not a good thing for me at work or driving. Without an apology and in a bitchy tone, the front desk girl looked at me and said "they will be in in 7 -10 days." I was stunned at the lack of caring and bitchy "no customer service" attitude I may expect from McDonalds or Toys R US or something, but to make me wait another 7-10 days really irked me & it was the way she said it that made me go home and think about her bitchy retort many times through out the next week. The exam seemed to go fine but getting the glasses in my hands has been an ongoing nightmare. I called today, May 5th 2014 to see if the glasses were in yet because once again, the front desk girl said she would call and never did and the glasses are still not in but I had to call back again after 2 pm to see if they were "done yet" at the lab. I feel jerked around by the front desk staff and this is for medically necessary item, not a frickin beach ball from Amazon. These people need to get their act together and speed up their snail like behavior and hire some staff with skills like being honest about when the product will be in and to actually do what they say and not just give a bunch of lip service and then go back to being complacent at their job like everyone else in in the service industry today. read more

Great customer service. I came here about 10 years ago for sunglasses when it was across the street. It was great then and it's great now. Recently came to get a new pair of regular glasses and I ended up getting a pair of progressive lenses. As much as I can see those being useful for people with bad vision both ways, it just wasn't for me. They instantly offered to switch them out for regular glasses with no charge. I started going here before I had insurance because they had the least expensive eye exams in the area. I was so happy wish their service that I continued to go here after I started VSP insurance. They are helpful and even send a little postcard to remind you when you need an exam. They also have a great selection of glasses and never mind when it takes me HOURS to decide! read more

This spacious, salsa-playing Silverlake optometrist office in the Pinkberry stripmall exceeded my expectations, specifically one of the multiple optometrists, Dr. Palacios. He performed the most in-depth, unrushed, thoughtful examination of my eyes that I've ever had and I walked out with perfect vision in a new set of contacts without that weird disoriented adjustment period of a few days that I've had with other past optometrists. Go during the week since Saturday the appts with another female optometrist ran late. For glasses: the case nearest the waiting area has the least expensive but stylish options and in my case I didn't need to pay any copay on the frames just the lenses. I really think many eyeglass shops these days are racquets, but this one has an optometrist that knows his stuff. You can get your prescriptions filled wherever you want. read more

I went here under conditions not conducive to a good business relationship. I dropped in without an appointment with a pair of broken glasses and the ones I bought to replace them. I asked Cindy if the broken ones could be repaired (I was sure they couldn't be) and if she could replace the lenses in the new pair with the lenses from the broken frames. Just had SUCH an amazing experience here it absolutely warrants a comment. I had purchased a 6 month supply of contacts almost a year ago and forgot to have them refilled. Went in today with the broken pair of glasses I've been using for the past 6 months with intentions of FINALLY refilling my contacts. Not only did Cindy remember who I was (from a year ago!!) but she filled my prescription, AND gave me a free pair of monthly contacts to use immediately and had my broken glasses repaired!!! Update! Thanks to Cindy and Dr. Palacios for seeing me after hours when I had a super bloody eye! Turned out it wasn't serious but their help put my mind at ease. Earlier review: Come here if you don't mind waiting forever. I had an appointment and sat there 45 minutes before seeing the doctor. No reason was given. Then, my contact lenses took SIX WEEKS to come in! Again, no explanation or acknowledgement of the unusual wait time. After that wait, they wanted me to make an appointment to receive the contacts. I asked if I could just come and pick them up, as I was busy but had already waited so long to get them. I stopped in and waited ANOTHER ten minutes for someone simply to hand me the contacts (which took 30 seconds.) It seems like the receptionist/manager, Cindy, does not know how to multi-task or just doesn't want to. If she did that would help the patients a lot. This is not the first time I've noticed this problem here. read more
