I have never owned nice sunglasses so when my friends were getting coffee next door I decided to look around. I loved the selection, I have small face so it can be find quality sunglasses that look nice on me. Scott allowed me to try on a bunch of glasses and I found the perfect pair! COLORED LENS REVIEW: Earlier this year I was on the look-out for some vintage eyewear, specifically: the Cazal 627-S sunglasses in a tobacco tortoiseshell. A few months pass and I accidentally stumble on a pair of Yves Saint Laurent SL-176 in a Havana dark-brown (not identical but close enough). Both share a few dimensional similarities: the double bridge with a square geometry frame, although the Cazal has a light-mocha gradient tint while the YSL sports an amber tone sunset hue. Here's where the fun begins.. Casually walked into CATEYE Spectacles on a Saturday afternoon, spoke with a gentleman (forgot his name) about current events and especially colored lenses, he says any gradient tint will cost sixty dollars flat. I say "perfect". Unfortunately their voice-mail doesn't specify Sunday availability. Went back on a Tuesday, met up with Jonathan (cool-cat), dropped off my frames, I went ahead and chose the light-light coffee gradient, he told me it would take about two to three business days just to be safe. He calls me on Wednesday at 3pm to let me know that it's all ready to go. At this point, I'm pretty excited, I picked it up on Thursday right before lunch, I wore them for a few seconds and I was completely satisfied with the results, I tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve so I'm pretty sure I was acting like a ten year old at the candy store. I was soo pleased with their work, once again, I placed another order, this time it was for three pairs of basic frames (sunglass conversion). For the last two weeks, I have been visiting several different businesses near my bfs home and my home to see if I could find Moscot glasses. I left Cateye excited and happy with the amount of friendliness, professionalism, and lack of pushiness to buy that I experienced here. I was informed that Cateye would suit my needs by the owner of both Eyetailor (which is walking distance from Cateye) and Cateye. Ultimately, I'm so relieved to have been directed there. I received the best service by two guys: Cesar and another man (sadly I have forgotten his name). They never once pushed me to buy and they eagerly helped me to find a frame that matched my face. Which ended up not being Moscot brand, but just as beautiful. The frames appeared to be a bit pricier ($180 and up) however there are many frames that are unique and more exclusive than other basic brands at say a LensCrafters or more popular spectacle stores. Randomly walking around one day and stumbled across this shop. Wasn't planning on buying anything, but thought I'd ask some questions since my boyfriend had just broken his glasses and the new frames were in. Scott was beyond helpful!! I came here this past weekend in search of a good pair of sunglasses that fit me. Since I am Asian with a less prominent nose bridge, it is literally impossible to find any sunglasses that fits my face comfortably. I have always settled with some cheapy frames that I know I will get annoyed with and throw away in a few months. As I wandered into Cateye, I thought to myself that here goes another hopeless attempt at finding sunglasses. Then Christopher, the salesperson, approached me and asked if he can help me find anything. I told him to find me any sunglasses that would fit my face. He came back with 2 pairs, I tried them both on and voila! .. they fit perfect! I was in a rush so I actually had to leave so I told him to hang onto the two I was trying on. When I came back a few hours later, he brought out the 2 pairs that was trying on before and also found me two other pairs. I had a hard time deciding on which one to purchase since they all fit me so well. I would've bought them all except that the prices are a bit steep. All in all, I had a wonderful shopping experience at Cateye. I stumbled upon this little shop on my usual Saturday coffee hunting afternoon while waiting on my Hot Box Collective order. I was sipping my Latte and and window shopping at first I thought ummm probably nothing to my liking as the neighbor stores are more like tattoo greaser kinda vibe but noticed some vintage Playboy glasses in window so i took my time and wondered on in ... WOW VINTAGE and totally different styles shapes and colors not your usual Nordstrom's Mall corporate cookie cutter finds. I LOVE to support your local mom and pop stores and this my fellow yelpiees is one of them. Not only was this place a mini eyeglass heaven but the young nice gentleman who was working with the big blue eyes was so very helpful friendly and sweet. This place also can make any pair of glasses prescription and or do repairs and new lens placement. I plan to go back and do some damage and being they are all one of a kind Vintage that were all overstock and never worn before all you eyeglass sluts better hurry as i may buy out all the supply! I've been doing research on the web, and every cat eye style vintage frame was in the $200 and up AND super small..so I knew they wouldn't fit my face. Cateye is really cool and just fun to look at all the beautifully curated frames. All the sales people I've encountered at this store have been really friendly, helpful and honest. They expertly chose frames that would work with my face, and weren't just trying to sell me the most expensive frames. The frames definitely range in price and can get pricey, but there is a range and there are reasonably priced frames to be hand. The vintage deadstock sunglasses really sets Cateye apart from Old Focals. Old Focals probably has cheaper prices, but a lot of the vintage frames are worn and it shows. The vintage glasses at Cateye are in pristine, new condition and that of course would make it more expensive. I don't think it's fair to compare in that way. Also, the salespeople and Sung the owner of both Cateye and Eyetailor are so attentive and helpful. That kind of customer service deserves recognition. That is something that was lacking when I visited Old Focals (but it could've been just that time). Glasses are an investment, but well worth it. Cateye has stylish, unique frames that you won't find at some chain eye place with similar prices in the end. Definitely support this fabulous store, and eat some ice cream at Scoops while you're at it! read more

The frame was discontinued but they went out of their way to find it from one of their distributors. They even got me a deal on the frame too! LOVE IT! I came here this past weekend for their Andy Wolf Trunk Show and was yet again pleased with my experience here as I was with its "brother-store" Eyetailor a couple months back! I love this store! They had amazing vintage options to choose from, as well as new frames that looked vintage. The guy who helped me out was very low key about me trying on frames. He let me look around the store and try frames on without breathing down my neck. He brought out more vintage options than were displayed for me to try. I ended up buying a new pair of frames that had a vintage look. They were on the pricey side, but I don't buy glasses every year, and I've been wanting vintage/vintageish for a really long time. I was looking into a brand I'm particularly fond of (Jacques Marie Mage) and they Recommended Cateye. A friend of mine and me drove down and they carried the exact pair i was looking for. The gentleman that helped me was patient and answered all of our questions patiently and honestly. When it came to price of custom prescription tinted lenses, they are a steal! The store near my house costs twice as much as Cateye does. I called a couple days later to see when they would be available for pick up, and the guy on the phone was extremely friendly and went as far as to explain exactly how they make the lenses and why it would take a little more extra time. I think a big thing that sets them apart from other glasses stores is they are enthusiastic about what they do and that goes a long way in my book. I will update once I receive the glasses but my experience thus far has been great. Exceptional customer service, great inventory, and a friendly and enthusiastic staff make for a 5 star review. Landed in LA recently and in the typical fashion, I must have sat on them or thrown them in front of bus during a jet lagged spell of mild dementia. My favorite glasses, poof! Cracked frames, thought they were goners for sure. Went to Eyetailor across the street who didn't have what I was looking but refers me to Cateye and told me to ask for Scottie. Very awesome referral cause on the way I stopped and made an appointment to get my hair cut at Shaggy's, a very groovy hole in the wall barber which makes you feel like a Hollywood movie star without needing a credit. Cut to Cateye where I am convinced my glasses are history for sure. Scottie assures me that if not able to salvage the frames, at the very least I would walk out there feeling like a new man with glasses he loves, prototyping himself in a new city. Some very enjoyable conversation and a rec for some hot skiing slopes later, boom. Scottie worked his magic and fixed my favorite glasses free of charge. I've purchased 2 frames here already and 3 at their flagship store, Eyetailor. One of the frames didn't work out for me, so they allowed me to exchange the pair with no issue. Their selection of vintage frames is better than any other store I've been to. Prices start at about $150+ for an authentic vintage frame and sky rocket to $400+ for designer brands. Though they have a larger selection of the more reasonably priced frames. Staff was friendly and helped me decide what frame looked and fit best for my face. They even gave me the history on the frames I bought - one pair being made specifically for prison inmates in the 1950's, the other, vintage remakes of the once defunct Victory brand (my new favorite glasses). I've been in search of a vintage, but not too period piece-y pair of cateyes and this place has the whole gamut of super vintage to not-so-obviously old school glasses. They won't buy back you grandmother old frames though, so don't try asking. Parking sucks on weekends, and the neighborhood is a mix of east side hipsters (Scoops and Bike Kitchen next door) and, how should I say, dudes with low riders. It's worth checking out if you're looking for a unique pair of vintage frames from the 40's thru the 80's. read more

I'm not sure if the Caucasian older guy sitting in front of his lap top was having a bad day, but it doesn't mean you can be hostile to your customers. First, don't get flustered if I can't remember what the name of the frames were! Secondly, stop being so damn impatient! He literally raised his hands in the air and said, "WELL! DO YOU have the glasses with YOU?!" Calm down! It's not my fault you're having a rough day. RUDE. So, I went to get my boyfriend and thought about giving it another try. He really needed his glasses repaired and maybe he can do the talking this time. We went in and checked out glasses. My boyfriend asked about his Dolabany frame. Older guy rushed through his advice and wasn't being helpful at all. He did offer a new similar pair for 150.00 (hence the ONE STAR) My boyfriend and I started having a conversation about going back to the place he originally bought them, etc... And then the older dude sitting in front of his laptop, slammed it shut, unplugged his laptop and stood up. Seconds later, he opened up his laptop again? Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? You didn't have the frame he wanted and you didn't seem to care or offer a special order. Stereotyping isn't nice, we have money to spend and we were (and now never ever) willing to go back to this place. I wouldn't want to support a business that has a shitty attitude. Stumbled upon this place when we were getting ice cream from scoops. If you are looking for a unique, vintage look, check this place out. It so happens that I love the cateye look and this place has a great selection on new and vintage frames. For being a relatively small shop, I couldn't believe how many pairs I loved. Customer service is also outstanding. When it was time to narrow it down to which pair of frames to buy, Scott gave very honest, well-thought out suggestions. He is also not out to just sell you the most expensive frames either. You could tell he knew "his stuff" and has a "good eye" for what looks best based on the shape of your face. Also, when I finally chose a frame to buy, he made sure to adjust the frames to fit my face perfectly. I've been to a few places to have my frames adjusted because my frames just don't feel right, but no one else can ever get it quite right. I'm just sad I didn't have my other frames with me so I could have him fix those too. I will definitely be coming back here to buy more frames in the future. read more

Nice frames. Nice store. Typical prices. My glasses were due a week ago. I was never called to say if they had arrived. I stopped by the store some hours ago. My glasses were supposed to show up today but did not. Apparently there's a delivery driver driving around LA somewhere with my glasses. Cateye has no idea where they are or when they will know. This doesn't seem to me an organized way to run a business. But there nice music playing in the store whenever I visit. UPDATE: Yeah, now they say the glasses are lost and will be remade--with a higher-quality lens. UPDATE: Cateye re-made the glasses on a rush order--the next business day. They still claimed the lab's delivery agent had lost the lenses. I finally have the glasses. The lenses seem good quality, and I like the frames I chose. All's well that end's well? read more
