Promo poster for adding prescription lens to existing glasses frames starting at $20!
    Joanne L.

Before I found Dennis Optical from a promo poster at California Market, I had done so much research to find the best & most affordable non-insurance cost for an eye exam + lens/glasses prescription, along with getting new prescription lenses put into my frames. The owner, Denny Kim, has THE BEST prices I've seen anywhere, quoting me $30 for an eye exam and $60 for prescription lenses to be put into existing frames (but starting at $20 for lenses if your eyes aren't as bad as mine lol). When I had a vision plan with my family, we used to go to a family friend's optometry that hooked it up for us, and their price wasn't nearly as good as Denny's, and after doing independent research for cheap non-insurance services for myself, I had found a different ktown shop where I recently paid $80 for an exam + $150!! for putting prescription lenses in frames I already had. Had I found Dennis Optical first, I would have saved so much money, but I have no regrets in finding Denny at this point, because he was so thorough and patiently answered every single question, despite the fact I walked in with no appointment and 30 minutes before close. I told Denny that I was interested in getting prescription lenses for glasses so that I could have an extra pair in addition to the ones I got updated for $150 recently, but I also expressed that I wasn't sure if the optometrist I had my latest prescription from did the best job (that optometrist was so close in age to me I couldn't help but wonder). Basically I already had a prescription, one pair of glasses with the current prescription, and contact lenses with my recent assessment, and it wasn't feeling perfect. Denny agreed that it would be silly to put a prescription that I wasn't feeling confident in into another pair of glasses, so he took the time to reevaluate and retest my eyes against this prescription. He could have easily been disingenuous with me and had me retake an eye exam + subsequently replace lenses in 2 pairs of my glasses, but instead, he was super honest and reassured me, saying that the prescription wasn't perfect but it was still good enough for now (I also already have a years worth of contacts I got online as well) and that it would be a waste of my money to start all over again and retest. By the time we wrapped up, it was 20 minutes past close, and I didn't even notice how time flew by; he was so helpful and honest about everything, in a way I would never have expected from anyone doing business with young customers who aren't well-versed in this field. Since we decided on moving forward with the prescription I had for the new lenses he would install, he took my glasses in and let me know to come back on Tuesday, anytime (it was Friday night). I told him that I was in no rush for the glasses, and he insisted that if I needed them any sooner, he could have the turnaround time be shorter for me as well! Overall, I had the best experience, and I'll be bringing my mom's glasses here as well to get prescription lenses put in (both of us love rotating through many different glasses styles), and I got to one-up my mom, since she thought she had found the cheapest offer for prescription lenses (her shop starts at $50). Overall, if that's too long to read, know that Denny from Dennis Optical offers a non-insurance cost of $30 eye exams and prescription lenses for glasses starting at $20, which is ridiculously more affordable than going anywhere with vision insurance, it's cheaper than anywhere I could read about online, and it's definitely cheaper than Costco or America's best. Also the optometrist he uses has many years of experience + Dennis said he's also had a long career in this field as well. Thank you so much!

Best of all Denny does the insurance paperwork for you; I have VSP and they paid me off without a hitch.

After waiting three long weeks for them to arrive, everything looked blurry and wrong the moment I put them on. When I returned to the store hoping for a refund, they flatly refused--no returns, no money back. Instead, they suggested I pay out of pocket for another exam as a "second opinion," with the vague promise they might help afterward. Frustrated but determined, I did exactly that with a different doctor, who confirmed I don't need any prescription at all. I sent them the new report as proof, expecting a full refund, but they still wouldn't budge. Their only concession was to let me turn the unnecessary glasses into sunglasses for a credit. With no other options left, I reluctantly took them up on that offer--only for it to drag on another three weeks with the glasses still not returned to me. It's obvious their initial exam was inaccurate, their staff refused to take responsibility, and corporate clearly doesn't care enough to make it right. I won't be going back, and I'd strongly advise anyone else to steer clear unless you're okay with the very real risk of being misled, overcharged, and left with no resolution.

I walked in with a particular frame in mind, which they didn't have in stock, but started to show me other frames that were comparable in style and look. Ended up finding a frame that was fit my face. The purchase process was smooth, as I still needed to get new prescription (they recommended an optometrist they work closely with) and the whole process took about 2.5-3 weeks (getting my eyes checked took longest). Would definitely recommend to friends, and also go back when I'm feeling the itch for new frames.

They have a good selection to browse through. They'll help to recommend what would be good based on your face shape and eyes. And they'll offer similar styles, etc. They're also really quick and knowledgeable. She pulled a bunch of different options for me to try. And they'll keep the glasses pristine. They'll even offer to clean your own glasses. Once you have your purchase, they'll help adjust the nose bridge and/or the ear area to help fit on your face better. This store is definitely on the more expensive side but you're paying for the quality and service.
