There's no hidden fees unlike some places and if you go online to reserve you can get some really great special rates. The best part about this place is the personalized customer service we received. Be honest about the storage price doubling after the introductory price. Be upfront about how many months is the introductory price and how much the price will increase. Stop playing games with customers....sounds like a bait and switch move. Then you'll get the standard response about the "market "...there's a way to handle price increases without being deceptive. Highly recommend! I rented a unit with them a couple years ago before I moved into my current home. Now that I'm moving again (downsizing), I'm going to be using them again. The Virginia Beach facilities are very clean, secure and easy to navigate, and they provide great customer service. I just wrapped up a phone call with one of their reps who noticed a discrepancy with my online rental. I'm grateful they called too, as the discrepancy would've cost me significantly more money. Very disappointed in this company! I think it's quite convenient that the company can send me information through email without any issues until it comes time to increase my storage unit cost. Very deceiving and scammy. My storage has gone up hundreds of dollars in less than a year. I understand that we're all here to make money but this is very poor practice. I have a bad taste in my mouth in regards to extra space storage now and will probably never use them again. read more

Here we go again, another rate hike. Have been a loyal customer for a while now, paying on time every month. Accepted the small rate increases they have done, but now is getting ridiculous. Was just moved from $171/month (this has been a constant theme) to $175 and now get a mailing stating they are jacking it up to $210. Before I know it, will be able to rent an apartment to put my stuff at this rate. Perhaps due to losing so many customers that they need to charge the others more. Worthless to call as all I get is they will has the manager and the answer is always relayed back as a nothing they can do. Save yourself some time and money, don't rent here. Will start looking today for a new place. 2-stars as the facility is clean. Emily, thanks for a reply but $25 increase a month when we just had one within the last 6 months? Our rate has nearly doubled since using you all. At this rate, we have to sell everything just to pay for the storage of it. Just not a good experience. read more

This is my 2nd go around using this facility. Always friendly service. They have climate controlled units and are reasonably priced. Online access to manage your account. When I moved out of the unit a few years ago, it was hassle free and warm welcome to return if I needed to use their facility. I was able to reserve online and I got a call from Chris almost immediately. He asked if I had any questions or concerns. I reserved an 8x10 on the first floor which is great but instead I got 2 5x10's instead. The full 8x10 was on the second floor and the first floor was obviously convenient and I have couches and a formal dining table to be put in soon which I have chosen the 8x10 online. On the upside if I don't need one of the storage units I can just dumped it and get charge for 1. I wish it had a moving service with it, that would have been a bonus. read more

I've had quite the month of dealing with moving issues and Extra Space Storage has been the only shining star of all the vendors I've had to work with during our move. I began on the website and web chatted with a customer service rep. He pointed me to exactly what I wanted and pointed out some online specials. He then said that someone from my local space would call me soon, my phone was ringing before I had ended the chat with the rep. I spoke with Erica who was amazingly helpful over the phone, with her follow-up, and a delight in person.
