I came across Extra Space Storage by doing a driveby. During my initial inquire visit, I was greeted with superb customer service. I received a tour of the facility and was amazed at the cleanliness of the office, grounds, and the actual storage halls and unit. I was able to secure a unit on that day and secured the date I needed to rent the free truck offered. I returned approximately 2 weeks later to complete the final documents in order to prepare for moving day. I was able to change the reserve date for the truck with NO problems. Moving day arrived and I was already overwhelmed with the move. I arrived to retrieve the keys for the FREE rental truck. The process was extremely fast as Maure and the other staff (I'm so sorry I forgot her name) made me feel asif my time and business was valued. Before leaving the facility, it was stressed that there was a person who was scheduled for the rental truck after me and needed to return to the facility ON TIME to prevent additional charges. I didn't realizejust howmuch stuff I had until I was placing boxes and items in the truck!!!! At that time, I knew that I needed to make more than one trip and was prepared to rent a Uhaul truck on the next day because I was unable to move everything within the 4 hour truck rental time slot. I returned the truck on time and was informed that the person canceled their rental and I could keep the truck rental for an additional 3 1/2 hours. Maure made my day with this news and kind gesture! I was able to complete my move with a little more ease and with a few more dollars in my pocket because I was able to cancel my reservation for Uhaul! I would recommend this facility to anyone because of the GREAT customer service and overall cleanliness/newness of the faculty! read more

Honestly, I've not received such rude customer service in my life. I used to work in customer service and I always am polite, as I know what a pain in the ass it can be. Jack was incredibly dismissive, huffed when I asked basic questions and literally breathed "why why why" into the phone after I asked what my options were. So my only reason for giving two stars is because the facility is nice and the staff are friendly. They keep it very clean which is lovely however, after being a customer for two years I can tell you I would NEVER use this company again. When I started with them I was paying 65$ for a ground floor unit. By the time I moved out my price had been raised to 223$ for a third floor unit which are cheaper than the ground floor units. They raised my rent every 3-6 months and not a tiny bit like 50-70% each time. I was given the song and dance about keeping up with the market, demand, etc but they are literally the most expensive company in this area. I know because I did my research. I thankfully found a unit that is the same size and cheaper than I was paying before my most recent price raise, and they guarantee my rate for 12 months. Though the facility is clean it does not give you 24 hour access, which since the access is during unmanned office hours it makes no difference if I arrive at 10pm or 2am. It was inconvenient to not be able to access my belongings when I got off work and was awake. Extra space storage is a pretty option but it will cost you in the wallet more then it's worth. Avoid it at all costs. read more

First, I noticed their address on Yelp is incorrect. This may explain the lack of reviews. My experience was pleasant. The person I interacted with was very helpful and friendly. I love that they do all their records management online. No carbon copy forms- everything is reviewed online and sent to you via email. My only note of caution- you are not required to purchase their additional content storage insurance, even though you will be told you will. While looking at various units, I was told it was required, even when I brought up that it was covered by my homeowners insurance. When we got to the paperwork portion in the office, I reviewed the contract and even it said insurance was optional. I was then told I had to bring in a copy of my homeowners insurance declaration in order to have it waived. I was also told I would be credited for the insurance they made me purchase that day, but it has yet to happen. If I was able to do my rental over again, I would have pushed harder to keep my $10. read more

Extremely clean facility, great prices and amazing customer service with convenient locations.

I rented a small storage unit, basically a cube, from Extra Space Storage just off Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. The unit was rented in late January of this year. Due to the fact I reserved my unit online and agreed to automatic payments, my rate was $47.10 per month. Today, I received notification from my bank that June's payment had been processed at $79.40. This is an increase of $32.30 (roughly a 70% increase) in just the 5th month of usage. I checked the current prices online and for my unit, I'm paying more than what is advertised. Apparently, this is how Extra Space Storage operates. You commit to a unit and within 4 to 5 months they will increase your rate by a significant percentage, needlessly. I will be canceling my unit as soon as humanely possible and I am recommending to all my friends and family members to AVOID Extra Space Storage at all costs.
