I am shouting out and thanking The Hercules Moving Company of Virginia Beach as I was having a difficult time with another service and not only did they listen but the owner came himself to walk through and give us the estimate and the price was very reasonable, he was also able to keep my original time table, as I needed to move the next day. He came the day of the move with two gentlemen and with exceptional care and speed they wrapped my house and moved everything! I was also impressed at my new address as we moved out of state there was no delay, the next day they showed up, made some measurements and got to work. Gerard and his team of professionals are honest, caring, trustworthy and I could not recommend a company that I don't believe in! The price never changed, there were no additional fees to unload and everything was there and in the same condition it was in at the beginning of our move. We recently moved my wife's mother into a senior community. The MIL suite in our house measures 540SF, including the tub. They charged her over $1,000 for a bed, a dresser, a reclining chair, a small glass table, and no more than ten medium sized boxes/storage tubs. On top of that they broke her table (1/2 inch thick glass) and only took $100 off the total (so over $1,100). They charged her by the hour. They pulled away from our house and I left 20 minutes later. I passed their truck at the half way point (not sure how they only made it that far). Then we waited for a half hour AFTER I arrived at the new place for the van to show up. We live approximately 13 miles from her new home for reference. She is a determined woman and did not ask us for assistance in researching a company. Too, because the senior living center recommended them, she went in blindly. I used this company before and had a great experience, so I called them again to pack and move me again. They showed up on time but stated their work order did not include packing. The result was chaos. Things were thrown randomly in boxes, antique China not wrapped, clean sheets with shoes, plants buried under pictures (also not wrapped) and on and on. Gerard, the owner of Hercules Moving, took a reservation to move us one month ago. He confirmed two days ago. He missed the move date yesterday and has not returned calls or texts. His answer service is unable to get him to respond. A simple courtesy call to tell us he decided not to move us would eliminate us having to start the process again of finding a moving company. UNETHICAL BUSINESS! This company was recommended to us by the Senior Community my mother was recently placed in. After my experience with them, I can only assume they're related to someone on staff & this is how they got their grimy foot in the door. They come from Virginia Beach to Northern Suffolk (Harbourview area) to service this particular senior community. Not an extremely long trek unless you speak with them about coming back to finish the job. Then it turns into a moon landing effort that just isn't possible. It is not ethical to make the location an issue after you've accepted the job. I would only recommend this company to the biggest a-holes I know because I can rest assured they will surely be screwed over. I will include a copy of our invoice for reference & photos of everything left behind in the old unit. Let me break down my experience as detailed as possible so you're well informed. My mother's minimal belongings were to be moved from her current studio sized Unit 411A to another studio sized unit 414A. The "A" denotes she's in an Assisted Living unit. The invoice also states their efforts will be charged at a 2 hour minimum ($160 per hr), but wait! We were graciously provided a "Special 10% Discount" which brought the total invoice amount to $288.00 I'm not mad yet. Not until my mother calls me crying because they left several items in her old unit and they refuse to come help her move them. She's also been informed by the executive director of the community that we will be charged rent on both units until we remove all of her belongings out of the old unit. Here's the kicker. We're going to start getting mad now. I call the moving company to ask them when they can come out to finish the job. The invoice has an in & out time stamp. The guys were only there 25 mins total & didn't move everything. They left a cabinet in her bathroom that is too heavy for her to move herself. She said she specifically asked them to help her move her shower curtain and rod because she was too scared to climb up on a step stool to do it herself. They also left her tv and cable box mounted to the wall, a chair, and the tv's original stand was left in the top of her closet. I try to calm my mother and tell her I wall call and speak on her behalf. Gerard was the Hercules Moving company contact I was so lucky to speak with. I explained my issue and asked when he would be able to come out to finish the move. He gave me the sob story that his guys already came all the way from VB & "his boys" told him they asked my mother several times if she needed them to move anything else. He tells me she insisted she was done with their services. Me: Are you aware my mother was in the assisted living side of this community? Gerard: Yes, but she should have done a walk through. Me: She is mentally incapacitated, your boys have eyes. The invoice says, move items from unit 411 to 414. There are still items in 411. When are you coming back to finish the job. Gerard: We are not Me: I will stop payment on the check until this is remedied Gerard: There will be additional fees added if you do Me: Do you think it is fair to charge a mentally incapacitated senior citizen $288 for 25 mins of work and you didn't finish the job? Do you realize the facility is going to charge me rent on both units until all of her possessions are removed from the old unit? Gerard: Not all of our clients move everything they own. Me: She's in an assisted living facility. Everything she owns needs to be moved from unit 411 to 414. It says so on your invoice. Gerard: "You keep using that excuse" (direct quote, not embellished) Me: What excuse? Gerard: "Mentally incapacitated. If it was so important to you...where were you? "(direct quote, not embellished) Me: I was in the middle of a F'ing move myself!!!!!! That's why we hired a "professional" moving service to handle this small job for us!!!! Gerard: Have a blessed day {disconnect call} Not only were we screwed over, we were judged. I chose to not stop payment on the check to see if this crook had the balls to cash the check of an assisted living senior citizen whom he left screwed. I hate to wish the same on his own elder loved ones, but maybe he needs a taste of his own medicine to learn a little empathy. It's in God's hands and all you potential clients. This is the third time I have used Hercules Moving. They are the best! Gerard takes care of you like family. I love that you don't have to unload your furniture drawers - everything is wrapped tight in plastic, then moving pads. Nothing was scratched or broken. They placed all the furniture where I asked in the new apartment and even set up my beds! I was a repeat customer of Hercules Moving; however, after the most recent act of unprofessionalism and poor customer service, I strongly recommend that you do not use this company and will never use their services again. During our last move, Hercules Moving broke our water cooler beyond repair. Gerard, the owner, still ran the card for the full amount anyway. After a day of trying to reach him, he agreed to refund me the money for the water cooler. However, it has been 2 months and Gerard has not sent any form of reimbursement. I have tried calling, emailing, and leaving messages with Gerard since that time but am always ignored and never receive any correspondence back. These movers are great. We have a grand piano that is super difficult to move and they managed it so wonderfully. They stored it for us and delivered it to our new home and set it up in perfect condition and without a scratch. They also unloaded all our heavy furniture out of our pod and they did such a great job. We have all new hard wood floors in our home and I was worried about scratching it, but they didn't; we had zero scratches or dings on anything. BUYER BEWARE!!! Very unprofessional and really unsafe and unprepared at which the price is a variable ! Never hire especially for a hot tub .... Owner quoted me over the phone shows up with invoice 20.00 more than the quote I questioned it and he basically ignored my question by saying well that's the price.so the the 4 guys use strap ins to lift the hot tub which was ridiculous for a hot tub move no equipment was used which was painful to watch guys life this hot tub and I can bench press 400 pounds on the weight bench .so I'm not weak and I just thought the method was stupid . Well anyway they get the hot tub to the box truck and measure it to see if it would go inside which is what o would've done. Before I touched the hot tub is to measure it especially sunce the owner charges you based on size so measuring is very important but not enough to only measure once being loaded into the truck .so they haul the hot tub in the truck to the house a 1/4 mile away or less and when they get there the owner asked me where do I want it in the backyard Well I questioned the owner because he seem to complain a lot when at the point he is charging me 335.00 for about 1 hour is extremely expensive for any trade however,when I said he was complaining and that I'm paying a lot which 335 and he shouldn't be delivering hot tubs if he had problems with things having water in them which until you move a hot tub it will usually always retain water . He stated well I'm charging you because the hot tub is bigger and it had water . Now let me Reiterate the things he mentioned he not only knew before he delivered the hot tub and before he touched the hot tub but did not mention until he had already got to my house and when I said I'm not paying more because he had already change the invoice he said if you don't pay me even before I put this hot tub where you want it I'll leave it in your driveway. So it's a scam he gives you a price delivers the hot tub and then changes the price and says if you don't pay I'll put a lien on your house . He threatens people if they have a problem with price. So my initial dealings with this company were great. I spoke to Gerard, he seemed very calming and knowledgeable, explaining how he'd be there every step of the way, from start to finish. He recommended moving on a Sunday because he said there would be less traffic and being that we were driving 3 hours away, it would be less time, hence less money. He also said be wary of moving companies that try to nickle and dime you to charge for gas; he said with Hercules all of that is included. We settled on moving Sunday morning with a 2 packers and 3 movers team. I even upgraded to the specialty items, like a mattress bag, flat screen TV box (that insures in case of damages), and a special order box for my chandelier. I wanted to make sure this move was seamless and went without a hitch. So on Saturday evening Gerard calls me and leaves a message saying he has "an appointment" Sunday morning but would be arriving later after the crew. Hmm, okay...not sure what office schedules appointments Sunday mornings but I didn't question it. Sunday morning comes and 3 guys who are clearly hungover, tired, and not wanting to be there show up. They don't know anything about anything, from where Gerard really is to where my specialty boxes are to where the other 2 packers are. While they remained respectful to me, the whole time spent packing was a lot of F bomb dropping and talking about what b*tches they f*cked at the club the night before. Lovely. They wrapped my 55 inch flat screen in a blanket and who knows what with my mattress. The packers never showed. I called Gerard and now he said he would be there in 2-3 hours (it almost sounded like he was estimating longer to prevent showing up) but sadly, I never met this elusive Gerard character. Where WAS this person and the packers and my specialty boxes?! Well Sunday actually ended up being THE WORST possible day for a move. What should have been a 3 hour drive turned into a 4.5 hour drive, which, of course, racked up the hours. I got to the new property 45 minutes before the moving truck did. Hmm, wonder what they were doing. They worked hard once they showed up and promptly got things setup and moved, but they were incredibly inexperienced and unprofessional. A week after the move and I'm left with a broken lamp, broken hamper, and a bunch of dented up and chipped furniture, as well as nicked walls. Upon checkout, Gerard added an hour onto the move (which I had to correct) as well as charged me for gas. When I called for explanation, he says any moves over 30 miles were charged for gas. But Gerard, didn't you say I should be wary of companies that charge for gas? When I had called initially, he knew I wanted an estimate for an out of town move but didn't mention that gas was an added expense. I'm not even upset so much that the movers broke and chipped my things, I'm more appalled at this Gerard person for being the phantom behind the whole thing, being sneaky about not showing up Sunday morning, and then literally cashing my check the first thing Monday morning (lest there be any disputes). How shady, dude. Oh and this whole thing about never charging you more than what the estimate says is true. And it's because when they come out to give you an estimate, they are incredibly liberal about the charges therefore making it almost impossible to go over that estimate. It's a pretty slippery promise. The bottom line with this company is you are paying hourly rates from that of a more seasoned, experienced company but you're getting inexperienced, shifty characters. NOT worth it in my book, especially when it comes to stressful situations like a major move. read more

We hired Gerard Carelli's company to pack and move all of our belongings just one city over. In the contract and with the moving crew, it was clearly stated, multiple times, that everything was to be moved. In the middle of the day, when the crew looked like they were wrapping up the loading process, we communicated that we'd head over to the new place (to reserve a spot for the truck) and they said they'd be close behind. Two hours later, they finally showed up, and began a long, arduous process of unloading, at which time, they broke our banister. They abruptly left at 8pm, but we didn't find out until the next morning that they had completely ignored small but not inconsequential parts of the old place: closets were left untouched, drawers were full, curtains left hanging, and broken furniture remained. I called Gerrard Carelli's phone on that day (after we had to finish 5.5 hrs of work ourselves, as we had to be out of our old place) and told him the account. He, inexplicably, tried to place the blame, squarely on our shoulders, by pointing out in the first paragraph of the contract that we needed to have a representative on the premises at all times. I pointed out that in the same paragraph it stated that if we had left, for any reason, his crew was to leave and call him--which he admitted didn't happen. He then asked me to send photos detailing the nature of my complaint, which I did, so we could resolve the issue, but he never got back to me and ignored further messages. We placed a hold on the payment for the incomplete services rendered and the breach of contract, which he disputed, taking out the full amount of money, even though his less-than-capable crew did not complete the job. I attempted to resolve the issue by settling a partial amount of the money with Gerard Carelli (about 75%, which was quite generous), but he ignored us and kept 100% of the money. His crew, whom complained about him throughout the day for not receiving raises (there's no wondering why), was a direct reflection of their crooked-dealing boss. Gerard Carelli is not a person I would ever do business with again, and I certainly would not recommend him, based on his demonstrable lack of integrity. read more

Meant to post this awhile ago. This was the worst move of my life. I talked with the owner a week before the move and thought everything was set. The day of the move, they never showed up for the time they said. I called them and found out they never actually had me scheduled, even though I was able to recall the entire conversation I had with the guy just a week before. The guy said he would still come move us but wouldn't be able to make it till around 4pm, when I was expecting them at 11am! I had my cat at the vet all day just so she wouldn't be in the way of the movers, and when I had to leave to go get her, the movers blocked me in! My boyfriend had to stay at the old place to organize the movers while I raced to get my cat before the vet closed! Then had to meet them at the new place to in order to let them in, all the while dealing with a stressed out cat. Then, they tried to charge me for 4 hours when they were done in 3 hours and 15 mins (I had started a timer the second they parked the truck to when the last box was brought in). The owner said it was more since they brought an extra guy...I only paid for 3 and we helped move a lot ourselves days before. The only good thing I can say about this company is that they still came out to move me on the day I needed, since after they didn't show up, I called around to other companies and no one would help. I recently had to hire Hercules Moving to move some of my Grandfather's estate belongings from Virginia Beach area back to Long Island, NY. Spoke to a Gerard, over the phone, and he made things really easy for us, while we were not about to make the trip back to VA. He went to my grandfather's house and wrapped all the delicate items and handled everything with care for the 8 hour haul to NY. I finally meet with Gerard as he unloaded his truck and everything made it in one piece as he promised. His estimate was right on !!!!! I have recently had the pleasure of using the moving services of Hercules Movers. After 11 years I did not expect to be moving anytime soon, but our hallway was having structural problems, so I had no choice. Although it was a move in the building it was still a hard move. I had Quan, Kara, William & Gerard. All 4 were excellent, but Quan, I have to say was the hardest working person I have ever seen! He did so much, not only to move me, but he was very compassionate & calmed me down as well.. I was pretty nervous about this move.. He hooked up my cable & washer & dryer, without even asking. They all took care with all my belongings, but Kara took extra special care with my things & putting them away, FROM MEMORY, I may add!! William was extremely strong & Gerard could not have been kinder to me. I would recommend Hercules Movers to anyone. I had Hercules Moving come an do an unusual move .... moving 2- very large Aquariums out of a room and replacing them in the same room.... they quoted the price came out for the 1st move.... perfect... did not accept payment.... until the job was complete. I called them 3-weeks later and within 24 hours they communicated the day and the time and showed up ... professional, honest, and very careful. Would not leave until it was perfect! I guess the running time with Gerald is telling people it will only take three hours. The men smelled of liquor, garlic, and cigarettes. It was too hot for all that funk :( and to top it all off, they broke several pieces of my furniture and gave multiple excuses, like, "oh, the wrap was too tight. They were a bunch of lazy complaining movers. To make matters worse, one mover spit in my sink without washing away the mucus with faucet water. I will never ever recommend or hire this company. Hercules Moving was a totally pleasure to work with. We ended up setting up our move about a week before the actually move and my husband had to deploy at the time that we were moving. So I was going to be handling the move entirely by my self. From the time that I called and got the income estimate to the time of the actual move they communicated with me what to expect and what time they would be arriving the morning of the move. The day of the move went smoothly and no issues. The crew and driver were extremely professional, kind and very careful with all of our belongings. plus the overall cost of the move was very affordable. If their moving is anything like their box delivery, STAY AWAY. Gentleman delivering boxes called saying he was downstairs with the boxes (At a large apartment complex), we walk down to meet him to see half of the boxes propped up against the wall. We settled up the price of boxes (including tip) and started carrying boxes (apx 25 boxes plus supplies) to the apartment and look back and the guy has disappeared..Was friendly but was not expecting to have to fight 100$ worth of boxes across the apartment building and up 10 floors, esp after tipping! After the doctor told me my mother was unable to live alone, of course getting her here was the easy part! I wasn't sure how I could find the time to get down to Norfolk to pack up my childhood home and move it all up to my home in New York. I flew down that weekend to decide what comes or goes and to pick up my mom, I met with a representative from Hercules Moving at the house (can't believe they met me at the house on a Sunday night!) and 1 week later my mother was with me here in New York and house was empty! With one phone call to Hercules I felt so much better. I arranged for them to pack up the entire house and they did such an amazing job!
