The manager Carina Avina claimed I was "hanging out" and rudely interrupted me while I took a 3 minute break so that I could answer a business call in the middle of organizing my unit. She was defensive and argumentative when I tried talking to her in the office afterwards. When I told her to check the cameras to see if I was really "hanging out", her response was that I should rent elsewhere. When I signed up Sue helped me and she was great. Can't say the same for Carina. read more

I had the same experience as Jeremy. At the time of move-in, they charged $105.00. I confirmed that the price was regular price, not promotional. They also said that insurance was mandatory, which I found out later was false. Then they charged $20.00 for a lock that they never disclosed. Three months later, with no notice, they raised the rent to $175.00 and claimed that the original rate was a "promotional" rate. When I pointed out the California Self-Storage Act required 30 days written notice they called the police and forcibly evicted me. I don't ever do reviews but in this case I'm very thankful for what Carina at Extra Space Storage did for me so I'm more than happy to write this review. I had a issue with my storage fee because it was raised $100 and when I went to explain it to Carina she stopped me and said "let me see what I can do for you, she said I can't promise you anything but I will do everything I can." I went in the following day and Carina was off but I had recieved a text message that my rate was lowered from an extra $100 a month to only an extra $30 a month. Then I was told that I had to make the $100 increase payment for that month and then it will be lowered to what Carina had it reduced to in the upcoming months. I wasn't to happy about that but before I could even express my disappointment for having to pay the increased $100 for only that month, Carina said she will have it pro-rated to my bill on the following month. I am so thankful to have been helped by Carina. She went above and beyond to satisfy my customer needs. Excellent customer service done by Carina Avina. I greatly appreciate you. She threatened my husband when he went in to try and resolve their mistakes. So unprofessional. She should be fired immediately. Rented a space 3 months ago to store my rv ($114). Just received notice my rental would basically double ($214) in cost because the promotional offer expired. When I called the first time I was told she was in the yard and would call me back in 2 minutes. Never received a call back. Called again a couple hours later and I was told the rate increase was because I did not pre pay for additional months. Not a good way to run a business. Thanks, I'll rent somewhere else. read more

These guys are thieves! No pods allowed! They don't tell you this. In fact they may tell you it is ok to bring them onsite. No pods not even for 1 hour. I was told pods weren't going to be an issue I could have them dropped load them and have them picked up. When I arrived with said pods they said no pods on the property! This means a giant storage units contents must be loaded from u it to the street. Find a place that allows portable units if you need them. I had to go to U-Haul. And hire extra help. The cost for this was over $300. In addition to that I moved out just days after my last payment to these clowns. I asked about my refund for the remaining days and they said there isn't a refund. Once you pay for the month of money is forfeited if you move out. The reviews on their website look great because when you know you're going to move out they close the review option. read more

Place is way too expensive. Asked for several months for a light switch to be replaced one excuse after another. Absolutely true place is a homeless encampment people living in lockers people passed out in cars RV stored that aren't worth $200 let alone a month to store then they oddly move out in morning. BEWARE!!!! UNSAFE!!! TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT!! I received a call from Ventura PD that someone had broken into my vintage trailer and was living in it. They wanted access. I won't bore you with the details of how much heart and soul went into rehabbing my little trailer that now housed local Meth Addicts. That part just makes me sad. Back to the review....They found the guy...drug needles and all. He and another guy (maybe more?) were apparently staying in if for what appeared to be at least a month or so. My trailer was DISGUSTING!!! Several inside items were stolen. Due to Coronavirus and the slimming of the jails ... the guy was given a court date and released. (that's a whole other topic!) He walked out as I drove out. Unbelievable. Kevin, the manager, is 100% at fault for creating an atmosphere at this facility that enables these drug addicts to live there. Over the last several months, this place has really gone down hill. People living in their (or someone else's) RVs right on the property. They also live out of their units!! I saw this the last time I was there. BBQing and hanging out. I witnessed it first hand yesterday....during business hours with management on site. Don't let the security gates fool you, anyone can come in and out and they do. In fact, when my husband and I came back later in the day....the gate was wide open. We didn't even enter a code. I asked Kevin how he allows this type of an atmosphere and these people to live there. His exact words were that it's hard to get rid of them once they are there. Wow! I can tell you....any good manager would not allow it to happen. Just know that If you leave your stuff there ... you are taking a huge risk. Kevin said they couldn't do anything for me. Left me and my son there to clean up the drug needles and "crap" on our own. As we all know...they make you sign every waver under the sun to ensure they aren't responsible for any of your loss. I've been a manager for many years and I know that customer service goes a LONG way. Not at this facility though. You get zero. Their negligence puts our entire community at risk. STAY AWAY!! Vicky at the corporate office did offer me what equates to a $29 refund of space rent and an apology. How thoughtful of them. Meanwhile all of my stuff that was stolen is sitting in a unit next to my spot (kevin showed it to me) and Kevin is trying to "catch them". It's been there awhile along with many other people's stuff. So ... if you have stuff there and it was stolen...you may want to talk to Kevin...he has a unit full of stolen items that he's saving for some big unveiling when he catches them apparently. Good policy right? Perpetuating the problem! Creating an atmosphere of acceptance. That's all he's doing and my family now suffers the repercussions of his complacency. That place needs an authority figure with a strong presence!! Go to Public Storage on McGrath....we have our personal property stored there. They are great. They have zero tolerance for this type of criminal behavior. read more

***BEWARE*** I rented a storage unit at Extra Space Storage on November 8, 2019 and moved in over the weekend. Before moving my things in I swept the unit and sprayed bug spray throughout. I take pride in my belongings and everything I own is clean. I placed some additional items in my unit on Saturday November 16th and everything looked just as I had left it. Sometime between the 16th and the 21st of November they had the streets repaved. I opened my unit on Thursday November 21st and was met with complete filth! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! There was dirt and debris everywhere! I immediately went to the office and spoke to a woman there that said she would pass on my complaint to management and they would be in touch. NOBODY CALLED ME. I went again a few days later and I spoke to the manager Kevin. I showed him my unit and asked for an explanation as to how this could have happened. He said that the repaving company used a blower when they were done and that must be where all of the debris came from under my rollup door. I said that they should have anticipated this happening and should have blocked our doors but he said they had never experienced this before and didn't know it was going to happen. Okay, a reasonable explanation however, I expressed my displeasure and asked for compensation for what I knew was going to be a lengthly process to clean. He offered to sweep it for me but I think he was missing the point. It was not just a matter of sweeping the front but cleaning everything as the debris was throughout the unit. He said he would speak to the owner and get back to me. HE DID NOT GET BACK TO ME. Yesterday, December 5, 2019 was the first day off I've had in weeks and I had to spend it cleaning my unit. All total I pulled almost 5 pounds of dirt out of my unit. I spent 2 1/2 hours pulling things out and cleaning everything down. Unfortunately, not everything is salvageable. I took my 5 pounds of dirt into the office and showed it to the manager Kevin. He once again reiterated that he would have swept it for me. Really Kevin? And would you have spent a couple of hours pulling stuff out and wiping it down for me? I once again asked for compensation, I belive a free months rent would compensate some for the time and aggravation not to mention that items I needed for my job were in the filthy unit and I had to repurchase since I couldn't get in there to get them until I cleaned. Kevin then explained that his boss had okay'd another unit compensation for the same thing...a whopping $25! And oh, by the way...if someone else was already compensated, why didn't I receive the courtesy of a call back since you knew I was going through the same situation? I signed up for my unit with Bill, who was a complete gentleman and would give him a 5 star rating for his professionalism. Kevin, I think you should take a page out of Bill's book on how to treat people. For one, look a person in the eyes when they're talking to you and show a little empathy for what they are going through. Needless to say, I am very unhappy with Extra Space Storage and would never recommend this place to anyone. I chose this place quickly based on their Google reviews, 4.8 star and 289 reviews (are they all real?). I should have checked YELP too, 3.5 stars and 25 reviews...all 1 & 2 star reviews in the past year. read more

My trailer was stolen from this place- they drove right by the patrol car. Beware that this place has lots of problems of units getting broken into. They don't care about your stuff- just want to collect your money. They take no responsibility for thefts. They have a security service which is absolutely worthless. If someone either piggybacks to get in or knows a friends gate code they have free run of the place. If a vehicle gets on their lot they could take every trailer in there. read more

Beware! I had everything of real value stolen from my storage locker there. The management said there were no cameras on that aisle of their property and didn't bother reviewing the security cameras footage because they couldn't pin down the exact time frame when it happened. The locks were still on the unit when I got there so they obviously picked the locks and put them back when they were done. My stuff was all upside down and rummaged through with many torn boxes. I filed a police report but they have not come up with anything. Extra Space gave me a check for 3k which didn't come anywhere close to covering what I lost. I wonder if it's an inside job. I have noticed people many times that seem to be living out of the lockers. When I finally moved my things out I discovered I had water and termite damage to furniture. They gave me 550.00 for that. I just finished going through my remaining items at a much safer storage place in oak view. I discovered that a painting done by my great aunt that's been in my family for years is gone along with many other things. So sad. The management and Extra Space Storage could care less! Stay away from Extra Space storage in Ventura on Market St.!!!! read more

I would like to commend the whole team at this location. From beginning to end they were able to help me move into two storage units and vacate just as easily. Each time I called I was treated with respext and kindness and they were willing to help go the extra mile to drive me aroundand make sure I had the right units. They were so easy to work with and always kind and willing to help with anything. Truly every one of them went over the top to make sure I could move in easily, get what I needed in a very stressful time, and then move out easily. There isn't a lot to overthink when choosing a storage facility. Until something goes wrong. Which is when you get to see the quality of the management. Some problems arose during the Covid 19 shutdown due to the rising population of homeless in Ventura. But the Market Street Ventura ESS management exceeded my expectations when I turned to them and asked for help.   With a lesser company, I would have moved out and chosen another. But ESS Market Street has won my loyalty. And, as a customer at three different ESS locations over 5 years, I can confidently say that ESS are a company who genuinely care a great deal about their customers. read more

I am updating my review...we have been there for a year. Our larger unit, we had no issue whatsoever. The smaller, closet-type unit, in an open walk way with other units, at the back, near the fence, was broken into for a 3rd time, and they had put their own lock on it. Yes, frustrating. All I wrote before happened, and was very frustrating at the time. This latest was a nuisance since we were loading up to leave CA. We should have put the round, can't cut off type of lock on such a unit. Greg, the manage is absolutely wonderful. He has helped us at every turn...some of this stuff, you can't control. My husband and I sincerely appreciate his efforts, and time we have now gotten to know him. After the Sept. 24th break in, the police issued a warning, saying many storage facilities were dealing with theft. So, it isn't just this place having problems. read more
