It's turned out to be the right storage for my needs.  In fact, better than. I needed a 10x10 in the Thousand Oaks area.  I checked online, called a few, and found ridiculously high prices.  Extra Space storage had a reasonably priced unit (go online and reserve for savings), and a first floor unit (all of theirs is). They make the process great, and were very responsive to calls or even texts.  Easy to sign-up, and a docusign for all the paperwork.  The facility is kept very clean, and long hours for access (everyday from 6am-10pm). RUN AWAY. My family rents here and up until now hadn't had an issue--until the roof failed. You would think if the roof LEAKED into your storage unit and RUINED your property, the storage facility would be kind and honorable. Not here at Extra Space Storage: Full rent owed; refusal to cover any sort of remediation, and would not let us move to a different unit. Does Extra Space Storage not have insurance? Are Extra Space Storage employees lazy? What is going on at Extra Space Storage to have this much cruelty and ineptitude? read more

I rarely give bad reviews. But when a family member has had nothing but bad attitude and negligent service from the manager, Selina, I must speak up. Selina is short-tempered, unprofessional, and unwilling to serve the client's needs. You would think that severe water damage from the last storm would have her going out of her way to help put matters right for the customers affected. Nope! Not for this manager. Tried to get some help today, during business hours, about a leak in my unit. Door was locked, lights on. Waited, knocked, hollered thru the mail slot. No one was there. Called the 888-storage number. No answer there either. Customer service sucks! I called the 805/497-2185. It's the same as the 888 number. Since I still had not heard from anyone, I went to the office. Opened late, still no apology. Was told that the white dust from the leak in my unit was paint. Upon questioning her knowledge of the substance, she said, "Trust me, it's paint." read more

Due to a dear friend's Mom's sudden death from an intracranial hemorrhage--which then necessitated a relocation of belongings--on April 20, 2016, I went to this Storage Unit. I STILL feel profoundly upset with them and feel only that they are cheating the public. After less than an hour of paying cash, they refused to pay me back in cash what I had initially given. (The family called me that had already found a different storage unit and did not need this one). 1) Even a half hour later, after they take your cash, they refuse to return to you in CASH. Then they act personally affronted why the public might be upset about this. 2) They don't tell you UP FRONT that they don't intend to refund you or give you back in CASH what you had given less than an hour before. 3) They refused to give me an itemized, PRINTED OUT sheet of paper of the initial transaction. Even after TWO HOURS, I still hadn't received an email receipt of anything. They say "We're going green". This protects ONLY THEM to keep your money and you not having proof of anything. 4) The Supervisor refused to give his name; only his initials. 5) They are price-gouging the public for their storage units: For a 5 x 10 with NO lighting: $161 plus an administration fee of another $22 plus mandatory insurance for $2,000; tax $1.72; plus an additional charge to change any date of billing. 6) After just making this transaction, the female there gave me nothing but excuses that she needed to talk with her boss and get back with me which she never did. I had to drive back over there in person and then she still only kept stalling. I would highly discourage ANYONE from doing business with them. They should be reported to the Police for stealing the public's money. They'll say they'll make an exception to pay you in "two weeks". It is now May 4, 2016 (two weeks) and NO refund. Would they appreciate it after their loved one died, if I took their $200 in cash and then a half hour later told them I decided to not to give them back their money for however long? They operate in an extremely deceitful way. read more
