When I first signed up for extra space storage in November I dealt with a woman named June. She was wonderful and helpful. BE AWARE THEY FIRED HER AND THE PLACE IS AWFUL NOW. You can see the good reviews are about June and the place is COMPLETELY different now. I wish I would of posted about my original experience with Demetrius when it happened months ago but I'll cut and paste part of the email (not room for it all). That complaint was forwarded to the district manager who did NOTHING. It's a joke. Today I called the facility over 3 AND A HALF HOURS AGO and no one was at the desk so I left a message for them to return my call. I called again 2 hours ago and AGAIN just now. No one answers and no one returns the call. A few visits back my door refused to close on my unit so I couldn't close the door and secure my storage. I called the person at the front desk for help and she didn't get back to me until I had (luckily) solved the issue and was already driving to an appointment I just barely made. Following is what I can fit of the email complaint. The place was wonderful with June but is TERRIBLE NOW. Be advised. ...my experience with Demetrius last night was disturbing enough to make me want to move my things out of your facility....I let Demetrius know immediately that my friend was late arriving and time was of the essence...took his time doing everything he did. When he received a call during the process...he proceeded to have an inappropriately long conversation with the person on the other line and indeed I had to request that he please 'walk and talk' before he let the person know he was helping another customer and needed to get off the line/call them back... While filling out the lease he asked for my license and credit/debit card. I explained that I would be paying cash and didn't want automatic payments to my card. He told me I HAD to give him my card and extra storage had a policy where you HAD to put your card on file to do the lease. This made no sense to me at all and I wasn't happy with this information. Later on in the rental he put my card in the chip reader and I asked him why. He said it was quicker than typing in the information. I asked him again why he needed to do that and let him know I wasn't happy with him doing it. Then today I get an email that I've signed up for auto pay!!! You can imagine how angry I was to receive this email after making it clear MORE THAN ONCE that I had no interest in that being done...having had bad experiences in the past with companies with questionable business practices. This made me think you're one of those companies...I look forward to your removal of my card information from your system. If I choose to pay with my card in the future it will be on a one time payment basis where none of my information is stored... during the rental I was asked what the value of the items I was storing was. I explained that I had no idea and that their value was immeasurable to me... I took out the lowest insurance value because I'm strapped for cash at the moment but the items are worth much more than the policy. Demetrius typed in $1600 as my items worth on the lease (LESS THAN THE INSURANCE). When I read that I told him that was incorrect and I wasn't going to sign the lease with that amount listed. He said we'd have to do the entire lease over then (knowing I'm in a hurry). I said fine do it over again. Obviously dismayed, he proceeds to put in $5000 as my items value... that wasn't even the value.. he told me I needed to give 10 days notice if I intended to move my things. That made no sense to me at all. I understand that as a courtesy it's nice and I'll try but if I'm paid up on my balance and I want to get my things I'm going to come and get my things. As long as it's me picking them up there shouldn't be an issue. I was happy to hear from you today that he was incorrect... If I'm paid up and want my things, I'm taking my things. Just make sure it's me... When Demetrius was showing me the unit...the gate opened and a girl walked in. I asked him about the girl (being concerned since my friends truck is missing the glass on the back and my things were available to be pilfered). He said she was a fellow renter and had put in the code. I didn't see that and maybe it occurred. I did find it disconcerting that a girl stood just behind the truck during my move in. This combined with the whole vehemency with which Demetrius insisted I give 10 day notice of my intention to get my own things made me wonder if Demetrius pulled inside robberies and if my things were safe. Indeed if any of my things are stolen I will hold extra space storage responsible and ask that Demetrius be investigated. .. I don't feel my things are safe under his supervision. Extra Space Storage have been protecting its employee's bad behaviors and mistreating of its customers. the management team has a leader her names Ms June in Sherman Oaks. She is kind at first impression, soft spoken and keeps the facility clean. Which any manager should do within a successful business environment. but yes there is a "but" ... On other days. One of my worse experiences on this planet! I had rented a Uhaul truck that later i had to be responsible for late fees and penalties because Ms June kicked me out of the facility @ 7:04pm which gates close at 7pm. And uhaul was to be returned the following day and she was aware from the beginning that i get off of work at 6pm-7pm 7 days per week. The only time throughout the month i can go to my unit and transport boxes from my home and or office in Sherman Oaks was between 6pm-7pm. every time i went onto the property it was before 7pm. I was a few mins behind on my last day and already had my boxes set by the elevator then out of consideration to the city's noise regulation. I had driven the truck off the property and walked back onto the property to finish up quietly, again all before 7pm. The second i sat down near the elevator to take a break from my recent physical injuries. i saw a monster of a lady ran in the hallway started screaming at me, June screamed, "that i knew the rules that i am evil and she cant handle disobedience" demanded her assistant Larry (a nice man, clearly intimidated by Ms June) to unlock a flat bed trolley and bring it so i can reload the boxes onto the flat bed and go off the property and place it back into the rental truck. It has been a nightmare with this location. Frank the general manager called me once while i was in alabama for an unexpected family emergency. Since then i have called him back 47 times in a span of 2-3 months. I had to contact other department(s) just to get a hold of someone that doesn't have a full mailbox every time i called to communicate my problems. Other local homeowners recommend this place for its location, so do I. "but" Ms Junes' hothead personality when you break a rule im not sure if you want to pay an over priced unit to get manhandled by an elderly person that is cleverly manuvers within business policy and is protected as innocent by her company regardless if she does wrong by customer compliants. and acts heartless when it comes to customer service quality. Absolutely a lie. what customer service since 1977 this company claims customer service? point me in the right direction please. I have many locals and local business and homeowners that have similar complaints against this manager at this location. Everybody except a few have taking their business to another storage facility. And i will be relocating as well. Hope you don't have valuables in the storage units. They will foreclose on you if the contract you signed allows them to. Get your lawyer to review their contracts. Oh and if you never read this true partial story online its because if Extra Storage as a business pays yelp a advertising fees it compliments the company by hiding the negative reviews. I have rented storage space at this location for over 10 years and have always been very pleased with the people working here who have made sure that everything is working well. Since last year, the on-site manager at this location is Roxanne. She is the best manager that I have ever worked with here. Always helps by answering any questions we have about anything related to this storage facilty. She has always provided the best advice and guidance that we need to have everything work out well. She is always polite, courteous and patient whenever she talks to me, and is very understanding about everything. I can only leave the very best feedback and highest praise for her that she deserves. beyond ridiculous of them to increase the rent AGAIN out of nowhere meanwhile they have a major construction project going on that prevents my direct access to my unit like before. i was so upset to come to my unit after being away for a while to find my unit full of dust and dirt from the construction. my vintage items now full of dust and they feel gritty now. for them to increase prices when they have made major inconveniences for us is RIDICULOUS. really greedy and just simply money hungry. moving out as soon as possible to somewhere else!!! read more

I have had a space at this facility for 10 years. I just rented a second temporarily while I remodel my kitchen.. Everything is always clean,well lite and feels safe.
