We've had a storage unit here for many years. Extra Space took over from Mini-PAC in 2021. Ever since then our price has consistently been increased every year. In 2024 and 2025 they raised it twice. I'm not sure if that's standard industry practice, but the constant price increases have felt excessive. Due to convenience and necessity we've stayed. During that time there's been several security issues with our lock being tampered with. The staff have been nice and responsive thankfully, so no complaints with them. Since there are a lot of storage companies to choose from now, I recommend shopping around. Security and stable pricing are important factors to consider and Extra Space can improve on both. Ooh no is right! The wife and I had a storage there, sadly I returned to our assigned unit and discovered our lock had been removed and a facility lock and red tag was in its place. I contacted the office who confirmed the unit was discovered open with no lock and claimed they contacted us via phone call (no such call was ever received). Unfortunately, yes many items taken. The unit was secured once again, and once again broken into with no notification from management, who again stated they contacted us (hard to say this, lied) A review of what was still in the unit reveal nothing more had been taken but definitely disturbed. The management knows there is a theft problem but apparently don't think much of the customers, total disregard for our property ... do NOT used this facility. read more

The RUDEST! Women "helped" me with my incorrect storage bill and incorrect form of payment. 1. She answered the phone angry and in a low tone which is fine. Maybe she just wanted to go home. But either way, when I am trying to let her know my issues she is cutting me off mid sentence, talking over me, & not listening to a word I am saying. 2. She then proceeds to call me "sweety" when my name is literally on the account. No need to call me outside of my own name. She does this when she is trying to tell me to "calm down" when I calmly ask her to either pass me to someone that is not in a bad mode or tell me when I can call back to speak to someone else because she sucks. She says repeats this for at least a minute UNTIL!... 3. She realizes something IS IN FACT incorrect on her end. Puts me on hold for 5 minutes to come back on the phone and say "there's no notes left here. Idk what happened but we're going to have to send you this form again". She speaking of a form I have already filled out and signed. She says, "yeah I don't know what happened here. There's something wrong but no notes were left ". Never apologizes. Never accepts fault, just blames it on "not having notes" Rude. Unprofessional. Can't wait to not need this unit so I don't have to potentially talk to someone like her again. read more

We've been renting storage units at this location since 2001, back when it was managed by Mini Pac Storage. Throughout the years, we've held anywhere from 1 to 4 units at a time. I've also referred several dozen clients here--many of whom needed a safe, secure, and convenient space for their belongings during home sales, relocations, or remodels. The staff back then built a warm, friendly business relationship with me and my clients, making it a pleasure to work with them. However, things changed when COVID-19 hit. The facility shut down completely, leaving us with zero access to our storage units for several months, followed by limited access for a longer period. Despite this, our rental rates for the three units we had at the time remained unchanged, which was understandably frustrating, as there were no reductions to compensate for that during those difficult times. In July 2021, Extra Space Storage took over management, and all the familiar faces we had known were replaced, except for one staff member who also eventually left. The atmosphere shifted, and the hours of operation remained limited until a new gate access system was installed, which now operates via an app. The personable, friendly service we had grown accustomed to was replaced with a colder, more mechanical business environment. Feeling unappreciated and disappointed with the changes, we eventually began looking for alternative storage options. We even started drafting a letter to Joseph D. Margolis, CEO of Extra Space Storage, to express our concerns and our intention to move. That was our plan, Until we encountered Richard, the Assistant Manager. From our very first conversation, Richard's sincere customer service skills stood out. He listened to our concerns, acknowledged the issues we were facing, and went out of his way to make things right. He repeatedly expressed his appreciation for our long-term business and asked us to give him a chance to address our concerns. After a few back-and-forth calls that same day, he came up with a solution that resolved our issues. Thanks to his efforts, he not only saved us the headache of moving our storage units but also restored our trust in this facility. We now feel reassured and confident in continuing to store our belongings here. Richard's ability to listen, solve problems, and genuinely care about customers makes a world of difference. We hope that Extra Space Storage recognizes his talents, but doesn't move him to another location, Instead, he should be promoted to facility manager here in San Pedro. He truly embodies what excellent customer service is all about. Extra Space Storage should be proud to have someone like Richard on their team, Someone with a courteous and helpful demeanor, a positive and engaged approach, and a willingness to go above and beyond for his customers. We've been renting a storage unit and after 4 months the price of the unit was increased 100% from $96 per month to $198 without notice. On top of that the unit was broken into in broad daylight. The thief was caught on a surveillance camera but and the owner of the unit even saw him walking out. Nothing was done. When we called regarding the price increase we were told that the price goes up whenever they feel demand is up. Very poor business practice. The only reason they have so many 5 star reviews is that they tell you to post a good review before you move in. read more

The only reason I gave them a 2 star was because there was two people that actually helped resolve a couple of the issues I've had with this place and I believe it was Steven & Shamon(spelling?) that called me from HR or that were management that were very nice helpful. OUR UNIT WAS BROKEN INTO and what was more infuriating is that they didn't notify us when they already knew this was going on . They couldn't provide a reason as to why we weren't notified. I got conflicting stories from LOU ANN. Lou Ann needs to fix her customer service because she was rude anytime I had to interact with her . . They advertise video surveillance but got conflicting stories with this as well. The site manager MATT told me they knew who was breaking into the units and assured me they weren't renting a unit there anymore , LOL . But then later Lou Ann told me they had an idea of who it was and they didn't have video surveillance of him. So if your going to rent a unit here GET INSURANCE. Because the employees and the detective that was assigned to our case and in charge of investigating the other break ins here are sooooo not helpful. The operators at the call center are way nicer and helpful. The bathroom was always disgusting or not accessible because someone would either lock themselves in or it was out or order. the lights near our unit sometimes didn't work either lol . This place is just a mess . I would never rent any storage unit from this company at any location ever again . read more

Was originally Mini Pac and few years ago, was paying $170 a month, and was super clean. Has been over taken by Extra Space about 3 years ago, paying $250 now! It has turned into a homless storage unit. Trash is everywhere, and elevators urinated in. Cleaniness is gone. read more

This is an exceptionally well-run storage facility. I enter and exit with an app on my phone. There are always enough flats to move things around with and the staff, managed by Richard (who is a great guy), are friendly and polite. The San Pedro location is not good to deal with, in my experience. You'd be better off elsewhere. They raise the rent considerably without notice- the information they claim is "mailed out" is not received, the employees are just rude and condescending, the hours inconvenient. No way to contact management-you're forced through a phone loop of contacting the very employees you may be trying to complaint about, with no recourse. Customer service sends a text link for comment that leads to a page that says it's unavailable. Then they respond to Yelp complaints as if you gave them a compliment with an 888 number to call where you enter the loop. The previous owner, Mini Pac, had its problems but was much better than this and didn't raise the rent. This company blatantly rips you off and doesn't care what your concerns are. If anything is stolen it's all on you, they will take no responsibility for anything at all. Ever. Do a little research and go elsewhere-there are other, better, more reputable places in the area. read more

This facility used to be managed by Mini PAC. The management of facility recently changed to be extra space storage. Ever since the change in management, the customer service has been horrible. They have reduced operating hours to the point you have virtually no access to your storage unit and the people working there are rude and inflexible. For example, they close at 4 o'clock on Sunday and no one is allowed to enter the gate after 3:30 PM. During the weekday, they also close early, preventing access for anyone with a 9-5 job. Unless you want to have a storage place that you never have access to, stay away from this place. read more

Mark was very responsive and helpful. It was my first time to rent storage. Stephen took care of the misaligned padlock holes. The most challenging part every time I would visit to store is finding a cart. Not all customers are responsible enough to return carts to where they're supposed to be which by the lifts. It would be great to have additional carts rather than running around looking for one. I always return the cart by the lifts after using even if I found them somewhere else. read more
