YELPING Storage Extra Space Storage An updated review! This Extra Space Storage location has really nice employees and the facilities are clean and cool (thanks to AC). This review, though, is about their predatory pricing. Two years ago (July 2023), I started using Extra Space Storage (aka ESS) at the monthly price of $130 (including taxes; all prices in this review will include taxes and be rounded up to the nearest dollar). It seemed like a pretty good deal and the location wasn't too far from home. Booking the space (their website is pretty helpful as far as finding the right size), there was no indication that that price was a special promotional price or anything like that. Four months later (Nov 2023), they hiked the monthly rate to $217, which is an increase 67%. Supposedly, ESS periodically adjusts their rates to based on market values. If you were renting an apartment at $1500 on a month to month basis and had your rate bumped up by 67%, it would be $2505 a month. There'd be crowds of people with pitchforks and torches beelining to the management company's office. (Yes, during this time, apartment rental management companies colluded to artificially inflate rental rates in the valley but even they knew not to go as high as 67% increases.) In August 2024, they raised their rental rate to $294. That's an increase of 35% in eight months. But, over a single year, that's an increase 126%. Using the hypothetical $1500/month apartment for comparison, that would be a jump to $3390 in a single year. Wild, right? From August 2024 to July 2025, there was only one rate increase (unlike the first year of rental, which had two rate hikes): $294 to $340. That's an increase of about 16%, which is a far cry from the 126% jump from July 2023 to August 2024. Over two years, though, that's an increase of 162%. Now, I get that market rates fluctuate and that, in general, that consumer prices for anything and everything are largely going to increase. But, JFC. I'll be real and take accountability for my part in allowing this highway robbery to take place. As soon as that first rate hike happened (and definitely that second one), I should've bounced and found an alternative to Extra Storage Space. Even better would have been to really take some time to get rid of as much as I could. The past couple of years has definitely been a rollercoaster in my life, so I've definitely let things slide for too long. So now the goal is to get our stuff out ASAP and definitely by the end of the year. We've used Extra Space for over 6 yrs with no issues. My bank account that had the auto payment was compromised just before the 4th of July holiday. I spoke to extra space to advise that when I received my new card I would call in payment & update the auto draft info. Just as I promised I called them with the new card info, however they insisted on Charging a LATE FEE. I explained I didn't have a replacement card to make that payment til today. I asked if they could waive the fee and simply put they said NO with no understanding or value for a long term client. They are very unprofessional, personally don't care about real circumstances or value their long term clients. I do not recommend them at all.... ps I will be moving my items to another company. read more

Very unethical business practices. Moved daughter's things in from college apt for the summer. Rates were quoted which was about reasonable, we signed and moved her in. The next month after she was moved into the storage unit and was back home in California for the summer we got billed about double the original rate. Wife called to inquire and was told to read the"fine print", this is true there is a very fine print section that states prices may change, however to me it's very suspect that shortly after move in knowing full well that we were not going to drive back from California to move her into a competitor storage unit, it's a really unethical practice... Hopefully this helps other students avoid this trap. read more

We rented space indoors and someone cut our lock and stole a bunch of things as well as damaged items as they rummaged through our things. We ALWAYS see homeless people sneaking in. They even take up unused lockers to live in. One was staying in the one right across from ours for a month! One day when we went to our unit there was drips of blood leading to the elevator. Inside the elevator there was a bloody pool with looked like it could have been some kind of something from the brain. It was discussing. Druggies rent units here. It's not safe! read more

Registering for a unit was easy online, the even gave me a complimentary lock! Cubesmart charges $20bucks even if you have your own lock!! Extra space is my new favorite place to store my precious memories! Its air conditioning, with an awning over your car while unloading that was a nice perk! The staff was exceptional as well, very helpful when I had a concern as well! Thanks Extra Space!! Inexpensive too!! Cubesmart charged me double what extra space charges! read more

This is by far the best storage I've used. Not only are the prices amazing, their staff is too. Sonia is very helpful, every time I ever had any questions or issues she goes the extra mile to help. I have 4 units with them now. This particular facility is brand new, very very clean and temperature controlled. You won't find a better storage in Phoenix. read more

The staff is extremely helpful and pleasant. The facility is kept mostly cleaned. I was comfortable leaving my stuff there. I only have a couple of complaints. I had a hard time finding the flat dollies and the bathrooms are always locked. read more

Worst storage unit my trailer got stolen. Charged me extra for the spot with a camera.. would rate it negative 100 if I could ..trailer didn't even last a week .. they haven't reimbursed me for the spot or my trailer .. they don't have wanna pay the Failed to keep a secure area... don't store you're trailer there would wether leave the trail any where else . An they have tweakers living in rvs in the promises... mangment knows abt it cause they have cameras but refuse to pay for the stolen property don't ever go there . read more

I was really happy about the priced that is until I checked out and then my storage costs shot through the roof. My bill doubled I'm just fees. These fees weren't prominently liisted. I feel duped and taken advantage of. I will never recommend this place. read more

The process was very easy. I reserved the space on a Thursday, and was able to access the unit the very next day. The entire facility was very clean. The people I spoke with on the phone were friendly and knew their jobs well. My one and only negative was that the on-line system for reserving a unit was cumbersome, slow, and ultimately not usable. I had to resort to a phone call to a human, but then it was a breeze. read more

do not.... i repeat do not rent from them they are liars! apparently the office manager carissa rivera decided she was going to change the gate hours and not notify the customers making it a huge inconvenience when people pay people and drive all the way out of their way to being their things to the storage that we pay for just to be told that the hours we're change by the store manager and there's nothing we can do about it!!!! there we're several people there not understanding what was going on meaning the notice that carissa lied to staff about and said she sent out to customers was a damn lie! i just received a text message and email saying that got my payment from my account yet they couldn't have the decency to notify us of such a huge change!!!! the employee page lied repeatedly and said there was nothing she could do referred me to the website and said i can try to call carissa rivera on monday! that does not resolve anything especially when i'm telling her look at the gate it clearly says 10 pm. now who's going to reimburse me for this inconvenience and money i lost paying people to help and come out their way to do so! carissa rivera and page are definitely only looking out for their best interest and not any of is as customers! read more
