The facility I stored my items was located on Bardstown Road in Louisville, KY. Security is virtually non-existent. They have numerous break-ins and have made great efforts to keep the people renting the lockers from knowing about them. None of these crimes are ever solved, and stolen items never recovered. Despite reassurances that they are correcting the problems, that is just completely untrue and break-ins with entire lockers trashed and pilfered is a recurrent problem. I moved out the same day after I discovered a break-in and they refused to refund the remainder of my rent until I threatened to take them to court. Learn from mine and many other former tenants: AVOID THIS COMPANY IF YOU VALUE YOUR PROPERTY !! read more

I kept my stuff at the Extra Space facility on Bridge St. in Newton for 6 months while my wife and I did some crazy career shuffling. Overall, I was pleased with my experience. The place was clean, well-lit, and generally seemed pretty safe. The facility also had positive reviews here on Yelp. Their hours were sufficiently long to allow me to get at my stuff (6AM to 10PM daily, if I recall correctly). I opted for one of the air-conditioned 5'x7' units, and I think that the unit met all of my criteria. I have one caveat, however, and for this, they lose a couple stars: their prices are misleading. When I signed up, they were advertising a "free month". Well, it turns out that with the mandatory one-time fees you must pay (Why? It's not like they need to make the bed or anything!) that first month actually meant that you paid the same price as all the other months. Furthermore, while they claim that the insurance fee is waivable, they won't let you store anything without having some kind of insurance. "Conveniently", they offer their own. They also raised the price a couple months into my rental. All of this price-slipperyness left me with a bad initial impression, and had I not really, really needed storage, I might have gone elsewhere. They should be more clear about the price. Businesses should know that honesty alone is a selling point! To their credit, the people who worked there were professional and friendly, and the company allows you to pay online, which is very convenient. When I lost my job in April, I needed a place to put all of my work stuff...fast. Unfortunately, lots of places were full up with student reservations. Extra space directed me to this location and I was up and running. The day I moved out of my office, I was extra frazzled and I think the people who signed me in could sense that, and they threw in a free month to help me out. The only warning I have is that the locker numbers feel a little random, so it is hard to find your way around if you forget which row it is in. One day, I had to ditch my cart, run around to find my locker, and go back. Otherwise this place rocks. read more

We have been customers here for over 10 years. They raise their prices often. Recently we got a notice saying our price was being raised to appx $330 a month for a 7' x 10' unit. I looked online and they have a price of $118 for the same unit. When I called to inquire I was told the $118 was a web price for new customers. So my reward for being a long term customer is that I get charged appx 3x what a new customer pays. When I think how much I have overpaid over the years it makes my blood boil. Shame on me for not checking into this sooner. We have found a new storage place, we will pay less than 1/2 what they want, get 1 month free and a guaranty that the price will not go up for 8 months and then a maximum of 5% for any further increases. read more

Super nice, CLEAN, well-lit, storage facility. Really impressive. Rates are so-so, and they MAKE you take insurance at an additional cost per month. They'll tell you that you can use a truck for free upon move in, but the truck is never available and now it's in the shop. Still a nice storage facility, with a very friendly staff. Had a very pleasant experience at this Extra Space Storage. Mike, who helped us out, was great. No easy task, either, because we had to go from a smaller unit to a larger one, with no notice, and he made it happen. He was very pleasant to deal with and did his best to make sure that we got the unit that we needed. The facility is kept very clean. There are security camera's everywhere, which gives you some peace of mind, in the event that you have to go there after business hours. I visited Extra Space Storage in Newton, MA on May 29th and talked to one of the office members about my online storage unit reservation. He showed me the unit that I reserved online it was too big as a size so I asked him if there was one size smaller than 9x10. He showed me 5x15 size unit and checked it was priced as 135/per month online rate so he said he could make a reservation for that unit and hold the it untill June 12th for me to visit the location on that day and sign for it. I recently received notifications for the original unit and called the storage to find out why. He (the storage manager supposedly) checked in the system and said couldn't find any info. about reservation being changed to 5x15 size for $135/per mo. First, he claimed there was not even a sign of me visiting their location and then found info. about my visit and it was noted that I would be visiting on the 12th, but then claimed there was no other info. about changing my unit size and tried to sell me 5x15 for higher rate of 196/per month. I asked him to speak with the person who made the reservation to correct the mistake made on their part. He refused and did not want to help. I kept trying to explain and requested him to speak with him so that he could remember and they could correct their mistake, but he refused and hang up on me. read more

We've used this storage place twice now and have only good things to say. The guys are all very helpful and friendly. It's easy to park a big truck, trailer (like ABF U-Haul), or even a POD here and unload it. Lots of good sized spaces to choose from. (The closer you can get to the front the better - it makes the loading/unloading much faster.) Rates are competitive (1st month is usually free) and they did not make us take insurance (we're already covered via our homeowners policy.) Highly reccomended. read more

Awful. Elevator is broken. We get there and we are told to move our car because the "unmarked" spots which happen to be closest to the entrance are for employees only. We get inside and the elevator is out of order. We ask when it is going to be fixed and he tells us maybe a week with a "get over it" attitude. What kind of moving place let's an elevator go broken for that long!? To top it all off I see the biggest dead roach I've ever seen which I would have missed if I didn't have to take the stairs up and down. read more

Called them last minute on a Sunday before Moving Chaos Day in Boston, August 31, and rep was truly helpful and patient, set us up with a 5x5 for the online rate, and we pulled off a miracle thanks to them. Clean, efficient, great storage spaces. No reason to deal with any other storage facility around Boston than any one of these franchises. AND they are right off the Mass Pike at Newton exit, which majorly helps when you're doing a couple trips from Boston proper. read more

We used this storage facility twice for short term storage. The first time was for six months while my daughter was studying abroad, and then this year when she graduated from Boston College but couldn't move into her apartment for six weeks. I only wish I had discovered them after her freshman year in college, and it would have saved a lot of heartache and wear and tear on my car! We live about 10 hours away from Boston, and not having to drag everything home for the summer was a great thing. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The facility is clean and well-lit. I would agree with another reviewer about the challenge of finding your space- it is a maze inside, and it took us about 15 minutes to find our storage locker when we were ready to move out! We showed proof of homeowners insurance and didn't have to pay any extra fees. read more

The staff was wonderful as well. I found the prices to be fairly reasonable. I went through threesstorage spaces because I kept on downsizing. Rather than moving my daughter's things home over the summer, we rented a space here. I wish I would have discovered it three years ago after her freshman year in college. Each year we had to rent a van to move her up and then back from school. This place saved us money and there wasn't stuff all over my house for the summer! The facility itself is climate controlled, and easily accessible. There was always a cart available, so getting things in and out was relatively easy. Very nice staff and hours were convenient. Rates go WAY up after you get your stuff in. Maybe this is the industry rather than this location, but my rate has increased 30% in 2 years. Seems like they know it is a hassle to take it out again, and they take advantage. I just got a notice that the rate for my unit is going up to $219, but it is still listed on the website at $197. read more
