We hired Big Foot Moving to help pack and load containers since we had a delay between moving out of our house to our new house in a different state. Mike from Big Foot came right out and was really helpful on assessing how much stuff we had and how many containers we would need. He followed up quickly and his pricing was reasonable. Before the moving day, his office called to confirm the date. The day of the move, the crew called when they were on their way and gave an accurate time of when they would be there. The crew was also outstanding. Very professional and careful with our items. They took care when moving the larger items thru doorways and halls to not damage anything. They did an excellent job packing the containers and fit more items into the first container that I expected but did so in a safe way. The crew from Big Foot Moving did a great job with our recent move. I had them help to move all our possessions (for two adults and two children) to our new house in the burbs - about 15 miles away from our old four bedroom house. I asked them to do the move in two phases - the first phase was so we could de-clutter and list our old house for sale. The second phase was to get us all moved into our new house. I was hoping to get more of our belongings packed before they arrived on the second moving day, but I wasn't able to do much between work and family commitments. They arrived early, packed up a ton of stuff, loaded the truck, and unloaded it all in under 11 hours. There were four guys working hard the entire time. They were very careful with our possessions and labeled all the boxes clearly, so everything made it safely to our new house and unpacking has been fairly easy. They came in right at the estimate for our move, and I thought it was great that I could swipe my credit card on an iPad or iPhone for each phase of the move. They were well worth the money and I would recommend them to anyone who is moving! read more

Bigfoot movers will not get a good review from me. They gave me an estimate of $2,171 to move all my belongings and 5 pieces of furniture from Westford to Methuen. I realize it was an estimate, but the actual cost came in 25% HIGHER ($2,893). Then, after I unpacked, I found a brand new set of calphalon pans ($400), still in the manufactures box, was missing. I called them and they said submit a claim. After I did, the president of Bigfoot, Mike B. replied via a letter saying that type of loss is not covered and there is no proof that the pans ever existed because I did not write it down in advance. My Real estate agent had recommended them, and she felt so bad that this happened, she sent me a new set of pans. I think Bigfoot should learn from them what real customer service is. I also would make sure if you do use Bigfoot, you write down everything they are moving in detail and take pictures so you can prove your items exist. read more

I have now used Big Foot twice to move my stuff, first from one side of Cambridge to the other and then out to Winchester. Although I hope not to be moving again any time soon, I would definitely use Mike, Rich and their team again. These guys are beyond professional. I have a Yamaha baby grand piano which they were able to move down the stairwell of my first apartment with no issues. (Movers before them had to call an outside company). Everything was packed very skillfully with no breakage whatsoever. (ok... one wine glass but who's counting). They are responsive and on time. Their equipment is top notch. But most important, on my last move they went above and beyond the call of duty. When they arrived at my new house, there was some question as to where to put the piano since the house was still undergoing renovations. Big Foot offered to store the piano for a week at no additional charge until renovations were finished. I wish it was easy to find other businesses that were as customer focused. Negative star. They moved our furniture etc out of storage into our home we were already occupying. My wife set her jewelry down in other room to clean something that showed up filthy and the jewelry (including engagement ring) "disappeared." Company made minimal investigation. We offered $$ to the crew (yes, we offered a reward to people we had reason to believe stole it) to return the jewelry-no questions asked, but didn't get anywhere. We got the police involved and they couldn't do much other than investigate the backgrounds of the crew members from that day and "these are bad people you shouldn't have let them into your home." Big Foot exceeded our expectations. I knew of them through a co-worker and their Angie's list reviews but there are so many horror stories out there, you just never know. Rich came over and did an assessment of the house, inputting into his iPad. He asked a lot of questions, things we hadn't thought of, that gave him an idea of how much more would be packed. On the day of the move, 4 guys showed to pack up. They were young but very professional. They were polite and friendly but, most importantly, very "down to business." I basically just worked around them and felt totally confident in how they handled everything. They wrapped nearly everything in those heavy moving blankets, brought additional boxes that we ended up needing and had lots of plastic wrap for securing items too. I am someone who loves processes and these guys had a great process. One guy in the truck supervised everything going in so that it all fit and was secure. I would recommend the boxes they have for hanging clothes. I was able to take everything out of 3 closets and hang them in these tall boxes. I did this so I was sure my wife's delicate dresses were handled right. When they were delivered the guys just pulled them out and rehung them in the labeled closets. Really worth the small additional costs. Fairly quickly they were driving away. So fast that I forgot to tip them. My wife supervised the unpack and she was just as impressed. One guy was there from the previous day and two new ones. But all the same good guys. They were great about working with us as we changed where some of the items were designated for. I made sure to go to the guy that had been there and give him a larger tip and told him to make sure that the previous gang got their share (he said that is common practice.) As stated, we had read so many horror stories about movers so, seeing our faith rewarded was very satisfying. Because I cannot resist a good pun, I will say: Big Foot made an "impression" on us; from our first contact with Rich on the phone until the truck pulled away from our new house. I would recommend them highly. I know I paid a little more but trust is something that is hard to put a price on. read more

I called Big Foot for a move at the end of August. I spoke with Jim who came out to my house to do an estimate. I was going to book on the spot but he told me to get three other estimates before I did. I thought that was odd, but ok, I did - and they were all more expensive! Jim knows what he's doing! Pete in the office is very helpful and has a great sense of humor which is important since moving is stressful. The buyer of my house kept switching the closing date so I had to call Big Foot over and over again to try and change dates and times - they were accommodating, understanding and helpful. The move was in town - Winchester to Winchester. The move was awesome - they showed up early by 15 min. Had my entire house packed up and moved within 4.5 hours. They asked me questions along the way - never guessing where something should go or if it should be packed. The unloading was just as smooth and the team never complained (lots of stairs) and nothing was broken. I am happy to recommend them and can serve as a reference. Jim the sales guy even stopped by the move to ensure everything was going well. Moving is already stressful, so the last thing you want is a poor showing by your mover. Have no fear with Big Foot, they called a week before our move to be sure we had enough boxes and to re-confirm the date. We were scheduled for 3 guys but the day of, only 2 showed. I thought, great, it will take twice as long, but the 2 guys who were there (Scott and Byron) were positive and professional (no griping at all). Two hours into the move, the owner, Mike Bavuso, showed and they were off and running with the 3 guys. They finished the job early, wrapped all the big furniture, and moved everything to our new place in no time. And bonus...since our new house is under construction, Mike even offered to store our boxes (for a fee) or come back at a later date and move big pieces for us. read more

This is for a job in 2006 - yes, I know this is a while ago but as I'm getting ready to move again and have been looking through my paperwork I found several emails I sent to Mike that he never returned. I didn't have the time then (or perhaps the assertiveness) to write a review but I'd like to do so now. They broke one of my tables, which I understand is a risk taken when you hire movers but I was disappointed in the sleazy handling of it. I contacted them shortly after the move and they waited to reply until exactly 1 day beyond their allowable time frame of 2 weeks for claims, stating: "We must stress the importance of completing this form in its entirety since incomplete information can result in a delayed response." Naturally, I took some time to write a very thorough report. I searched for (and submitted) the original receipt for the table (which tooks weeks in light of everything being in boxes), and took several photographs to be as precise in my claim as possible. When I finally submitted it, I received a reply that my claim was denied due to it being beyond the 15 days after the move. I wrote a thoughful, respectful email explaining to them that my initial contact was well within the time frame and they asked me to research as much as I could. I never received a reply to this email. I followed up 2 weeks later to find out a status and still got no reply. I was a timid young girl at the time and Mike had no problem blatantly dismissing my inquiries once he got my money. In an industry like this, customer service is paramount and Big Foot's is awful. UPDATE: I see Mike addressed my review. His dishonesty is upsetting. This is the last email I received from him in 2006: "We are in receipt of your presentation for loss and damage dated April 12, 2006. The investigation is now complete and we regret to advise that your claim cannot be honored due to the fact that it was not filed within the prescribed time limits." read more

Movers arrived 45 minutes early (seems good) but then said they were only booked for a half-day. They had no idea that they would be packing (even though the company had been told to bring 30-50 boxes). They refused to wait -- on the clock -- until the container into which they were moving items arrived, because they had another job. In effect, they basically walked off with the job half done. I have an update to my previous review of Big Foot. Last June I used them to move out of my house in Reading, MA and had them put my belongings into storage in NH. I decided to hire a different company to move me from the storage facility to my new house. The reason I didn't use Big Foot for the move in is discussed in my previous review. During my move out of storage, I was horrified to learn that the Big Foot crew destroyed my refrigerator during my move out. The connector to the refrigerator's main wiring harness was ripped off the harness. To hide the damage, they tucked the harness inside the refrigerator. The refrigerator WAS a Samsung unit that has the controls on the door. the refrigerator will not run without the door panel connected to this harness. I contacted the Company with this bad news. It seemed as though Mike Bavuso (the owner) was going to make good on this damage. He sent me a damage claim form in December. He has since ignored my inquiries. The refrigerator cost us $2,400 when we bought it a year prior to our move, so be careful if you hire these guys to move anything of value. They will leave you holding the bill for damage their people do to your belongings!!!!!! read more

I have used Big Foot three times in the last year a half. One for an office move, one for local and one for out of state. The Big Foot staff are incredibly thorough and thoughtful about the moves. I had to postpone my move out of state very last minute and Rich was very accommodating. Without a doubt moving is stressful but the crew is cheerful and incredibly considerate. They took time to arrange furniture when they got to the final destination, they took away the boxes and packing gear as we unpacked and they checked to make sure that things were the way we wanted them although they had a full day drive to get back home. I was wary of some of the other movers I'd gotten quotes from, given the value of my furniture and other belongings and the fact that I knew moving into my new house required a tricky negotiation of a variety of steps and corners. We had a fantastic experience with Big Foot. Rich McKee was our salesperson and he was responsive, helpful and organized. The crew on both moves (the first small move and then the big day) were unbelievable. They were polite, personable, and efficient. We moved into a 5 story walk up and I swear they did it with smiles on their faces. They took time to ask questions and place furniture and took great care of all of our belongings, including our 150 year old dressing table. All of our stuff (including the storage items) were unscathed. My husband and I joked that writing fragile on some boxes was futile because they treated them all like fragiles. They have perfected being really fast and efficient without making the customer feel like they are rushing. We considered cheaper companies (like AVIV) but we were so happy we chose Big Foot. Their estimate for 7 hours was spot on, whereas Aviv and others estimated ~4 hours. Either they don't know how to estimate, were low-balling us, or the moves are frantic. I can't imagine our move taking a minute less than 7 hours. In addition, I felt that the moving crews are probably treated better by Big Foot in terms of wages, benefits, etc. versus the cheaper companies. Looking at Big Foot's employment webpage, it seems like a great company to work for. I like to think about those things when I hire someone. In addition, if anything ever went wrong, I would definitely want to be dealing with Rich at Big Foot and not some of the gruff people I talked to when shopping the discount companies. Definitely! In sum, they were the best part of our move. Moving stinks, but these guys made the actual process painless and dare I say sort of fun? They (almost) make you want to move again. read more

I stored my belongs at Big Foot for 2+ years. I paid extra for climate control. When I got my stuff back. There was more than $4000 of water damage. Big Foot did not contact me about this when they realized the issue, but waited for me to contact them when it was delivered to me--2 months later!!! At that time, they sent me through the motions of filing a claim only to tell me that they would only cover a minimum claim of the insurance I had purchased for my contents inside the unit. However, the leak came from outside of the building, but they are not willing to take responsibility for that. They also told me that they were unable to contact their landlord to ask them for additional insurance. Irresponsible coverage and very negligible in informing me of the damage and monitoring the contents in storage in a building that claims to be climate controlled. read more

This moving company came recommended to me and they were local. Their truck say prompt pick up and delivery; not true! I was quoted a pick up on June 13th between 11:30A and Noon. I began calling the office number around 1:45P when I received no phone call; no one picked up and the voicemail just says you've reached a mailbox. I began moving things in my personal car and had to let a friend go who was going to help me. They didn't call until 2:15P and didn't arrive until 3P and the guys were tired; they had done a job that took longer than expected, obviously. They were decent guys but certainly not as fresh as a first run would have been , long story short, I paid for 5 hours, I asked Rich McKee, the specialist to credit me back an hour for the lateness, the loss of some food, and the truck left for the destination at the same time as I but they turned up later, then the truck was delayed caught on telephone wires, etc so I figured it reasonable to ask for an hour back, good customer service; they said no in writing. No. Don't use them. The move was chaotic, partly because movers felt overwhelmed, but also because the people sent me had been changed from the original ones listed on the invoice. I can only imagine this happened for the worse. There was yelling and laughter and at one point I had to ask if anyone was minding the half full van, as I saw a box of badly packed fine art hanging out in a small uncovered box at the end of the van. I obviously got no response because, after I began to recover from this move I noticed there were 12 fine art paintings missing. This was really a disaster, as this included a few valuable and cherished items, all irreplaceable. My complaint to the moving company was handled by the Cambridge police as if I had something to do with the disappearance of this work, one police woman asked suspiciously why it took me so long to make a report. Believe me, I have offered a large reward for their return, which is more important to me than insurance money. However, the most disappointing after the lame attempts from the police to do their job was the lack of action or good will from owner, Mike Bavuso. He gave the impression of self aggrandizement being more important than helping me by creating a meeting with the movers to trace the loss. To date, he has not helped by doing the least thing I asked him in order to compensate for the biggest blunder: the immaturity and negligence of his movers.
