I had moved from a unit and into another. I have to give credit to Jimmy for making the process so easy and going above and beyond to make sure I understood the move out process over a Sunday when they were closed. I was able to do the move in the same day. Jimmy had already clocked out for the day but he was still wrapping up on the office. Extremely unhappy with my experience with this particular location. I have rented with other location of Extra Space Storage, but this experience really ruined my impression of them. My unit got flooded just one month after I started renting with them. They said the investigation showed it was from the ceiling after the storm but even their staff admitted that it was likely coming from the draining hole in the middle of my unit which nobody warned me about when I moved in. Except some boxes for moving out of my unit, I received anything from Extra Storage to remedy the situation. All they offered was "talk to your insurance" which only covers to $10k when my damages were much much more than that. Unable to even lower my rate going forward or do anything to help remedy my loss. I had to take time off from work everyday for a week to go into the unit to move everything to another unit. read more

I REPEAT DO NOT RENT FROM THIS FACILITY UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE EVERYTHING YOU OWN AND GET EXPOSED TO BIOHAZARDS, HARMFUL BACTERIA AND VIRUSES. If there was a way to give negative stars, I would. I've been renting here since June. I have been paying almost 650 dollars a month. I placed everything I own in this unit because it was in West Loop and large and seemingly clean. I mean, everything I own because I was out of town for months. Upon visiting the unit this January 2024, I noticed mice and rat traps in the hallway that were NOT there during summer. As I opened my unit door, the smell hit me. There were rat and mice droppings and urine EVERYWHERE. They had eaten through my boxes, eaten through my bins and eaten through my bags. All my clothing, bedding, furniture, FAMILY HEIRLOOMS FROM ITALY AND MEXICO- full of RAT URINE AND FECES. All of my items are contaminated and destroyed. THE INSURANCE IS ONLY TEN THOUSAND. THERE WAS OVER 100 THOUSAND IN DAMAGES. For those of you who might not know this, renters insurance does NOT cover storage units. We tried to clean what we could and place the boxes and high up as we could. The smell of feces and urine gave my brother and I headaches and the following two weeks I was sick with a fever and blown up sinuses from the exposure. I had to go to the emergency room and the ENT and GP multiple times. THE RAT INFESTATION LED TO ME GETTING SO SICK THAT I HAD TO SEE THREE DIFFERENT DOCTORS. Upon telling the office manager what happened, she seemed nice and first and informed me that I would not have to pay for this month 650 dollars to have my belongings covered in urine making me sick. However, 5 days after my payment was passed due, she called and said " I never said you didn't' have to pay". she locked me out of the facility and locked my unit Friday. She was rude, callous and dismissive. Would not let me talk to any higher ups. Hung up on me. The company is not helping at all. I CANT EVEN GET INTO MY UNIT BECAUSE IT IS A DANGEROUS BIOHAZARD THAT I CANNOT BREATHE IN WITHOUT A HAZMAT SUIT AND MASKS. I had to spend 2500 dollars decontaminating my apartment and all I managed to move out of the unit was my bed frame. My bed frame was hand mad and brand new- SOAKED WITH THE SMELL OF URINE. the insurance won't cut a check unless I take photos of EVERY ITEM. How can I if it's a danger to my health to get inside? DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE EVIL, MONEY HUNGRY A**HOLES WHO ARE DEVOID OF EMPATHY. TOTAL MONSTERS. they don't care AT ALL that my entire life is destroyed because I trusted them. We were notified they had SEVERAL units that were broken into with thieves taking items. Obviously a security failure. I asked basic questions to see if they can use their video recordings to figure out if the criminals took storage boxes (which is the only thing we have in our unit). So far, no response to that question. I'd like to assume the criminals ignored our record storage boxes but now we have little choice but to review inventory to see if any are actually missing. Also, no explanation as to how these criminals were able to gain access through the security doors. The infuriating part is our rent on our tiny closet goes up considerably at each renewal...they're worse than the cable company. Given the area, I think this place needs a full-time security staff. read more

Sadly, this facility has deteriorated over the years, yet the prices keep increasing. There's no longer a dumpster, no longer separate bathroom facilities for men and women, and now driving access to the third floor is prohibited indefinitely. There was no warning that the third floor was going to be inaccessible via driving nor was any discount offered to those of us who are being tremendously inconvenienced by this closure. The facility is advertised as climate controlled but the third floor is unbearably hot on summer days. I've complained many times over the years about the intolerable heat and management's answer is always "we're in the process of fixing the air conditioning." On the positive side, the staff is friendly and the common areas are kept clean. read more

WATER DAMAGE - Never even called TERRIBLE SERVICE - I used this place for years when it was Life Storage never had an issue. This new company did construction, WATER RAINED DOWN on my stuff for who knows how long - weeks - it totally dried ruining my stuff. THEY NEVER CALLED - but they tried to put plastic above. WHY why would they not call me? Tony Chenoweth the manager won't answer my many calls. So - beware - your stuff just isn't safe here despite all their claims. ESS - customer service tip - Just call the customer to tell them instead of trying to hide it and letting everything get moldy. See the pics for yourself. Came in here to get some packing supplies and was surprised to see how much more expensive their stuff was compared to some of the other places. Only reason I came here was that it was a quick walk from my apartment. The manager was helpful and the place looked clean. read more
