They raise your rent ridiculously almost every month, don't notify you then charge you exorbitant late and lock fees. $35.00 for a lock. Total scam artist. Nice staff but record keeping could use some work.... We rented for a short time pending my daughters move to Colorado. Setting up was fine, smooth, pleasant staff. After telling three different people we were vacating, I was told we could pay up on the day of. Went the night before to add some more stuff to the unit, and we were locked out until we--guess what--paid up. I was out of town and my daughter had to pay. Now, we had movers scheduled early the next morning and if she hadn't stopped by that evening, the movers and us would have been waiting until the office opened. Not good! So our account is paid up, we've cleared out. Confirmed via phone that all is well. Since then, I've gotten two calls (two different people) and a reminder email about my next month payment. Seriously? If I need a storage unit in the future I'll most likely go elsewhere. This was a frustrating experience. read more

After calling various storage facilities and gathering info to choose one I decided to check out a few in the area. One I visited had only outdoor units available and their parking was very limited. Afterwards I stopped here in Cerritos remembering how their rates seemed competitive and was impressed with the professional and friendly manner in which they handled my call (coming from a sales and customer service background myself, good customer service will impress me every time). I was given a warm friendly greeting and the young man seemed to remember me from my recent phone call. I was given a tour of the place and immediately impressed with how clean it was kept ( a good sign of how well a business is run and maintained) and how the building was temperature controlled and even happier to learn that there were some "inside" storage units available-- which meant not having to deal with bad weather days when I was there. I was shown two or three different sized units and given the rental quotes. Afterwards It was a no brainer-- I liked the people I was dealing with and the way I was treated as a customer, my unit would be indoors-- temperature controlled thank you very much-- their rates were competitive to other quotes I had received, they had security cameras to monitor the grounds and parking is close and convenient. Later, this company was purchased by Extra Storage and I was wondering if things would degrade but I'm happy to say that to this day the quality of the people and the great customer service I'd been receiving has remained the same, if not better. Also, I like the option of paying my bill by phone if I choose. That's pretty convenient. If you need a storage unit definitely give 'em a call and put this place on your list to visit. read more

Stored our RV here for two years. Started at $135 per month and moved out after several rate increases with the last being $215 per month. Staff here is friendly but cannot do much to help stabilize costs for long term customers. RV parking storage is clean but very tight spaces. Good about this storage is their two sewer dumps and hours of access. read more

This place is great as long as you just want to store items and not have questions or encounter an issue or expect honesty related to an issue. I've had a storage unit at Extra Space Storage for approximately 5 years.....maybe less and I've always paid on time without a problem. I needed a second storage unit so of course I went to the same place but I knew eventually I would consolidate them somehow. After I realized the cost of 2 units I thought it would be a good idea to either donate or auction the unit. I asked the employee at the desk who rented me the new unit about auctioning units without liens but he said he didn't know how that worked and his manager, Linda, was out because of illness in the family. This was on the 30th of Aug. 2016 so I gave Linda some time and returned on 9/12/16 and met Julie at the desk. I asked Julie about the volunteer auction and how it works and what percentage does the storage facility get and she said that they don't get anything only the auctioneer's. I assumed they got a percentage and I asked Julie but she wasn't quite sure but quoted something like maybe %5 of the sell. She gave me the paper to sign to release it for auction on 9/12/16 which was about 4 lines and 2 of them was for signature and printed name so it wasn't that complicated. I left satisfied with releasing the unit and had confirmed the unit would be auctioned off on 9/21/16 and I had saved a $121 for that month which was due on 9/16. I returned to Extra Space on 9/22/16 because I was in my old neighborhood and decided to drop by and see how the auction went and finally encountered Linda, the manager, at the front desk. I walked in greeted her told her who I was gave her the unit number and inquired about the auction and how much the unit sold for and she looked at me and said "we don't have a record of that information." I asked her if she didn't have a record of the information how will she know how much to reimburse me for the items that was sold and she bluntly said "you don't get ANYTHING." I looked at Linda, the manager, and asked her what she meant by "you don't get anything" and she said it again. I was absolutely livid and she needed to clear this up with me but the only clarification I got from Linda was "we used to do it but we don't anymore and there is nothing we can do." Before this fiasco was over I think I heard "there is NOTHING we can do" or "there is NOTHING more we can do" come out of Linda's mount at least 20 times and needless to say I was completely annoyed. I explained to Linda that it is not my fault that her staff is not properly informed of company policy and that I need to be compensated for the sale of my unit per what was explained to me. Linda took some notes to send an email to the regional manager and told me she would get back to me in 24-48 hours with a resolution. I thanked her and left but I was not happy with how this was being handled but I wasn't going to make a huge deal as long as it seemed Linda was trying to resolve this problem. Linda didn't call me back in 2 days she called in 2 hours and I was impressed until she started talking. She said that she spoke to the regional manager and he has agreed to give me $250 and they get $85 (total $335) for the unit. I asked Linda what is the $85 in fees were for and she said "liens and other fees." I told her "this was a volunteer unit there was no liens and as far as other fees why am I being charged for other fees for services you guys said you didn't provide in the first place?" I guess that $85 goes under "misc" money paid. Now I feel like Linda may be shady if she isn't it's not looking good for her as a manager or her ability to resolve problems efficiently. However, I thought to myself I should have donated at I usually do with things I am not using but I didn't want to deal with this anymore so I hung up with Linda to end my frustration. Almost one month later I discover that Extra Space Storage took $121 out of my bank account on 9/16 for a unit I signed over and gave them the keys to on 9/12. I called Extra Space Storage and Linda answered the phone.....just the person I wanted to speak with. I told her that I just check my bank account today on 10/8/16 and discover you guys charged me for that unit you I signed over and you auctioned off. She seemed confused and then said "that account should have been closed out" well that's what I thought as well but it wasn't and now I am calling again. After a short pause she says that I have already been paid for that unit and that's what the $250 was for that they gave to me and there's nothing else she can do about it since I got the check. I told Linda that AGAIN was NOT something that was explained to me by her or Julie via phone, email, text, skyscraper or whatever and now I feel like I've just been swindled......AGAIN!!! No apology...just NOTHING SHE CAN DO! CLEARLY SHE HAS DONE NOTHING. CERRITOS NEEDS A NEW MANAGER!!!!! read more

Review update: They have since corrected the problem of requiring staff for customers to gain access. There are new security features and now you can be there as early as 6am for access to the climate controlled storage area. The new owners have kept the place clean as ever and my faith in the management has returned. If they keep the price point the same I will continue to do business here. read more

I'm new to self-storage and I'm so glad I came here. I started by reserving a unit online (which was quick, easy, and free). When I arrived to check out the unit, I was greeted by James. We took a short cart ride out to the unit where he answered all of my questions before I even brought them up (talk about great customer service). The one question I did ask was about the "first month rent free" banner I saw in front of the complex. He told me that was for specific units, but he'd see what he could work out for me. Turns out, he was able to cut my first month's rent in half! That discount on top of my online only discount pretty much saved me on a majority of my one-time administration fee. Beyond that, the whole process was just really quick and smooth. If you need a good storage solution with friendly and helpful staff, this is the place to go. And ask for James!
