Food 4/5 - one of the chapli kabab was but undercooked, but rightly spiced, you can taste the food unlike other places where you only can taste chillis. Kabuli polao was too tasty. Lamb chops was tender and again rightly spiced, food was served hot! service 4/5 - very clean and tidy, smiling staffs, quick service, within 5-7 minutes after ordering food was served. Place was great. My first time trying Afghani food. Very clean, food made with love from the heart. I had their chicken kabobs with rice and a minced salad with hummus and pita. Large, Large portions for the price. On the rice you have a choice of plain white, or a raisin carrot delicacy. Believe me, I turned my nose when they mentioned the raisin rice... they were kind enough to give me a sample and it was soo soo incredibly tasty, I ordered it with my meal. I also tried their Doogh, a salted yogurt drink / lassi. If you're gujarati, its similar tasting to Chas but with mint and cucumbers blended in. It was also delicious. Oh! I also tried their eggplant dish, also good, but a tad rich for me. I barely ate half of my chicken entree and was excited for the leftovers. Quality of the food itself was good. Express Kabob lost 1 star for taking too long to fulfill my order and another for misrepresenting what comes in a dish. The place is called EXPRESS kabob. That means it should be QUICK. It took 45 minutes from the time I placed my order to the time it was brought to my table. There is nothing express about that!!! As far as misrepresentation: the Koobideh combo explicitly states SKEWERS, with an S at the end, which means it comes with more than one. I only got one, and when I asked the staff they also said it only comes with one. Why the heck does it say SKEWERS when it is SKEWER? I feel ripped off. I expected at least 2. My wife also didn't get a lamb shank with her kabooli pulao, instead they offered lamb kebabs since they were out. This was at 7:45pm on a Saturday. I may come back, but only once they fix their menu to be accurate, and once they are living up to the "express" in their name. Amazing place. For starters, I love the glass walls of the place. I don't often comment on the decor of restaurants but they have beautiful glass walls. Now on to the food. I tried the rib eye, spicy version. Perfectly well flavored. The lamb was really good too. The one item I had never eaten before is bolani which is a fried pita bread with leeks or potatoes. I was blown away, and had to keep eating well beyond the beyond of satiety. The rice. I tried the kabuli rice which is made with raisins and carrots. It tastes similar to biryani rice, if you are familiar with Indian food. Excellent rice. Service and welcome: I was greeted warmly by the staff and they offered to explain the menu to me. I am not one to take up the staff's time in a useless way, after all, I can look it up on my phone or look at the menu printed above the grill. However, I was surprised by the warmth of the welcome. What lovely people the Afghans are. Pity we only get to see them through the lens of war and terrorism. I hope in the future I meet more beautiful Afghans. Meanwhile, I will continue to eat their wonderful food, celebrating our common humanity. read more

A family friend told us much they like this place so we decided to give a shot. I ordered my food over the phone 30 to 35 minutes before I came to pick it up. They told me over the phone that my food would take five minutes to get ready. I come to the restaurant and they said they had no order ready for me. About a half an hour later finally had my food. The woman working behind the counter told me I need to order next time even though I had already told her I ordered beforehand. I told her I ordered over the phone so she said next time I need to tell them to type it in the computer... they need to do better than this. Wify was craving Afghan food for her BD, so we yelped around Dallas. Came across one on Greenville Ave that didn't feel authentic enough to her so we trekked out to outskirts into Plano to this little gem. As the name suggests, it's more like a fast food joint than a restaurant. I was not excited to take her to a fast food place for her b'day but given there aren't many real Afghan restaurants around, I hesitatingly took her there. The place is a bit hard to find if u come from I-75, so I recommend calling them to get direction or keep going around the other end of the plaza (across QuikTrip fuel station). To my surprise the place was much better than I expected for an ethnic place. It's well maintained, fresh and modern. The co-owner, Naim, was very friendly, professional and accommodating. He took his time to explain the menu options to us and made great recommendations. Now for the food. It was fantastic!! So Good was the food that after devouring our dine-in order, we decided to take another order of non-spicy Ribeye Beef Kabob and Lamb Kabob Combo To-Go. While there, we ordered the Potato Bolani (also comes w/ Leak) which was crispy & made to order. We devoured it even before realizing we didn't take a pic of it. For our drinks we ordered 'Stubborn Soda' - Orange Hibiscus for me and Lemon Berry for her. I didn't like mine at all, she liked hers. Somehow she forgot to offer it to me before the last drop, so I had to take her word for it. For main entrées, we ordered Ribeye Beef Kabob combo and Kabuli Pulao Platter. Naim recommended spicy Ribeye and it was amazing, a bit spicy for wify but I didn't mind it at all, cause the flavor was such that I am missing it right now as I write this review. The pieces were not dry but not really moist, still tender and succulent with a little kick of red pepper. Kabuli pulao comes with the Lamb Shank of course. The pulao rice was well flavored with shredded carrots & raisins and not overtly sweet. The lamb shank bone came off super clean with hardly any effort..that's one well cooked lamb shank, super moist and tender. Our side offerings included Naan, Hummus, sautéed spinach and chopped (tomato/onion) salad. Didn't care much for the Naan as it was too buttery or the hummus which was a bit grainy. But the flavor of everything else really made up for these sides. It's a definite repeat restaurant for me if I crave Afghan cuisine in future while in Dallas area. This is one of the beat Afghan places I have tried. The service was top notch, friendly and attentive. The owner is a nice guy who cares about his customers. We went there last night and I had the Lamb Chop skewers that were delicious. They were cooked to perfection and well marinated. My wife had the spicy Chicken skewers. Why the hell would you put an aggressive teenager to get orders!???? First time I came here I wanted a BEEF KABAB (Expecting it in a skewer) and he said ok. He honestly also told me that he adds $1 for white rice. I wondered if the menu is current or old since why would you add $1 on a white rice when it says $3, and the other combo order includes rice also and still added $1 just because I said white rice on both. Shit man, I wonder how many customers were overcharged already with this issue. And yes, I drove 45 miles home just to find out that the Beef Kabab I ordered was a f@#$! PATTIES... Nothing special nor taste in this resto except for the green thing. And they have to train front employees and cashier more not to be ahead of customer's mind but to make sure that the customer should get what they really want and clear things to them. Really 3.5 stars but I'll round up. I wanted to fall in love with this place but they consistently cannot meet up with the demand. EXTREMELY long wait times when dining in, usually over an hour after you place your order. Maybe it is just temporary as the hype dies down and they figure out their system better. Their portions are also very small, be careful. Order more than you think, because once the food is out, good luck putting in another order and waiting another hour, so just be safe. We had them cater a dinner party the next day, and they completely forgot about the Kabuli Pulao unfortunately, and we weren't ready to drive 30 mins back there to get it. They did refund us a portion of our bill though. They also didn't have the top 4 things we wanted to order when we go there. I can't remember all of them, I think it was Mantu, the beef kabob skewer, one of the lamb pulao dishes, and something else. The good thing is that they know about these problems. I can tell they are trying very hard to satisfy the customer, and often offered up something to the customers while they waited. Food is decent, great Chapli Kabobs for sure. Just go off-peak for shorter wait times and early so they don't run out of stuff. read more

My boyfriend brought me here recently for the first time. It is described as an Afghan - Persian cuisine. One orders and pays at the counter and then a server brings the food out when it is prepared. The menu has a variety of meats including beef, chicken and lamb. There are a couple of vegetarian options as main entrees and several sides that are vegetarian. We had ribeye with rice, spinach and naan, and I had potato and leek flatbread with yogurt. Overall, the food was very good. A couple of the dishes were too spicy for me, but I am a wimp. My boyfriend had no issues with the spice. A gentleman by the name of Rahim greeted us and served our food. Later, he came out and asked how we liked our food. He seemed genuinely interested and what his patrons thought. He offered in the future to make my items less spicy, with a little notice ahead of time. As we were leaving, he ran outside to our car and asked us to wait a minute. A minute later he came back out with a meal he had prepared for us to take home and taste. I don't know why he took the time to do this. All of our feedback has been positive. My only guess is that he's enthusiastic about his business and a very nice person. We tried the dish and it was delicious. As a consumer, in an era that is difficult to even here a thank you for a purchase, it's nice to see someone that not only enjoys their job, but is enthusiastic and appreciative to be in business. read more

This place is unique and delicious. I told the owner how the rice was our favorite part and he told us they make it each day fresh and it takes about three hours to cook! It's hard to find restaurants that are quick service but healthy. The meat here was incredibly seasoned and tender. They've really earned their five stars here. read more

Welll.... I don't understand what the "huge" hype is all about at this place. Food is ok at its best but what really bothered me was the portion size for the price. We ordered a full size kabuli Palau and got a side size serving and it didnt look anything like the pictures not brown at all. It's almost like they were running out so they threw a lot of white rice in there (sad..) the wait time was long as well took about 30 min from when we ordered to when we got the food. They tried their best with service though . When comparing prices with portions the portions are very small, and the taste is below average. I don't recommend this place. If i were to give a second chance they will have to make changes to there portions and do something about the taste of food. Express Kabob 1915 Central Expressway, Plano TX 75075 09/16/207 (I think) We went there with two other families after one of our friends mentioned some good stuff about the place that had not opened yet. We got there around 1900 hours (7 pm) and after some contemplating and soaking in the atmosphere inside that included setting sun peeking through the glass windows and giving the interior a shimmering gold touch, decided to order. Food - 4.5/5 We ordered Chapli kabab, Kabuli Pulao, Lamb Shank on Kabuli Pulao, Afghanistan naan, Bonali (I forgot the correct name) that is like a thin paratha with either potatoes in it or keel). You can call it an Afghan aalu paratha. When Naeem brought Chapli kababs, it reminded me of our time in Chiltan market in Quetta, Pakistan where that smell was a commonplace thing along with sight of the big ol' naan. I don't eat mutton but tried lamb shank when one of my friends insisted and man was it something. I will for sure try it again when we go back. Rice had that Afghan touch with raisins giving it the flavor. When we asked if we could substitute naan for rice, Naeem just brought two plates of hot rice for being slightly slow. Service - 4/5 We were told at the time of ordering that it will easily take twenty or so minutes as they are busy and one person short which I appreciated that heads up. Naeem was on top of his game in talking to customers, his crew and keeping an eye on proceedings. The place got filled up fast with some wait time and you could sense the tension but the way crew stayed calm is something I liked. Facilities - 3.5/5 The layout of the place was very flexible where tables could be moved around. They didn't anticipate the rush they got because of probably good food and service during soft launch period so utensils trays had to be filled up. Restroom was cleaner than most of the desi places I've been to so I'll give it to them. Kitchen is upfront so customers can actually see what's being made to ensure least amount of time between food being ready and devoured. It was a very good first experience and I for one will go back to try other items on their menu again and to check the standard of experience after launch as that is the biggest challenge new places face I.e. to maintain the same level of motivation, customer experience and food quality after establishing a name during soft launch. One thing I like is that there was this one lady who appeared to be the owner as she was there (I guess) after finishing her work shift and made sure that kitchen was being run smoothly. Incredible chicken kabob combo. Get it "spicy" instead of just regular. It's not super hot at all. More of a 3 or 4 our of 10 on the heat scale, but whatever marinade they use on the spicy variety gives it an awesome flavor and just a little kick to add some tasty zip. Comes with naan bread and rice, PLUS two sides. (I got the hummus - freaking amazing - and the steamed veggies - just aight.) All of this for just $9.99. Such a great deal. One minor down side is that this place isn't super easy to get to. Probably easiest to reach it from the southbound service road on 75. Came here cause Yelp recommended and it was a good choice. Other reviews say the wait was horrible. I didn't experience that. I came at lunch time. We ordered and waited a short time and got our fresh prepared food. The spices were great and the bread was made piping hot. Make sure you ask for the green sauce. It very spicy and good on everything. The staff was very friendly and offered great explanations of items that I didn't know. For a first timer they made recommendations and I was happy to accept.
