Also, their GREEN CHUTNEY IS AMAZINGG (sorry for all the caps, but this is the first time I've had legit green chutney at any place besides my mom's)!! Here's what I ordered: Kabuli Palo with lamb shank- the rice was seasoned and cooked to perfection!! yumm!! The lamb was super tender and juicy!! I do wish it had a little more kick to it, so that I wouldn't have to rely on the chutney as much, but overall, it was delicious! Bolani (potato leek)- The potato filling was good, but a little on the mild side, so you have to eat it with the chutney. The bread is good since it's not super greasy and was flavorful by itself. Chapli Kabob- YUMM!! This was my favorite dish since it was on the spicy side super juicy kabobs! These come in a plate of 2, and they're huge!! Def more than enough for 2 people! Although this wasn't my first choice when I went out for the night, I can wholeheartedly say that I do not regret the decision to visit and sample a vast amount of their menu, despite other reviews complaining of time and quality issues. To be prompt, their service is wonderful. The owner is up front at the counter, ready to welcome new customers and happy to inform patrons of anything and everything involving their fresh ingredients and goals as a restaurant. Attentive and friendly, it's exactly the kind of interaction you want from a small business. The food itself is great, made fresh, Front and Center and with a variety of options. The main item being skewers, they prepare and marinate them before hand, where you can then choose from their deli style cabinets which one you want to have! The chicken was juicy, the ribeye was flavorful, the Chapli Kabob was tender and the lamb was simply just right, cooked from grass fed lamb (per the owner). A wonderful selection with home made sides to match! I've been here a few more times since the first time. I deviated from the chapli kabob and tried the rib eye. It was pretty good but not as good as the chapli kabob. Also the service, man they are slow and forget to bring you things. Let me put it this way. If I order a side of Fries and it's not here ~30 minutes later, and I remind you and then 10 minutes later find out it's not even in the fryer yet .... grrr. Borani bademjan is good but little extra oily. My son cleaned the bone from his lamb shank on his kabuli pulau lol. He loved it. I couldn't eat the manti :( not sure if it had the cloves or seven spice, but I wasted my bite. But my son loves that shawarma flavor. He's lucky lol. The baklava was very good here. Can't tell if they make it or order it-but even if they order, it was still fresh when I got it. We also ordered bolani that was super fresh. We spent $50 something and had 2 days of items. I'll save you the trouble and just order what I got: Kabuli Pulao (fancy basmati rice) with a lamb shank (still on the bone making it really juicy), Bolani (stuffed flat bread with spiced potato, easily the best tasting item out of everything I got), koobideh platter (a long meatball, perfectly spiced, comes with rice and hummus), roasted eggplant in a yogurt sauce. Express Kabob - Review. Doesn't look like much when you drive past but their Chapli kababs are great! I love that their plate price is very reasonable and they give 2 kababs that are nicely proportioned to fill you up. What doesn't fill you up however is the Naan they give you. I'm shocked that they have the audacity to call it a "Naan" when all it is a Naan cut into 4 peices and they give you that 1/4 of the peice. How does one expect to eat 2 Chapli kababs with 1/4th of a Naan? Genuine question for the owner that what was he thinking coming up with the system of cutting a Naan into 4 peices and giving you a pizza slice sized peice. Went last night with friends and the service was great! The guy was super friendly and even though they dont have student discount, He still gave me 5% off which was nice of him. What wasn't nice was the 1/4th of a Naan that all of us got with our plates and combos and we had to ask for more, to which the Lady frowned upon us for asking which seemed off. It started to get a little busy and we ordered another kabab plate at 8:40pm, we were hoping to be out in 15-20 minutes so we weren't in a hurry but hey how long does it take to make 2 kababs and 1/4th of a Naan? Turns out quite a while. After multiple reminders to the staff about our order at about 9:20pm we finally got the 2 kababs and 1/4th of a Naan and got out of there. I think the management can really work on training their staff to work a little faster and efficiently as well as getting the food out on time when the restaurant is a little busy. We also got the ice cream which we weren't expecting, was the literal definition of an ice cream. There was actual ice on the bottom and cream on top. It was expensive around $6 for what it was and the portion was small. The "ice and cream" tasted bland and didn't have much flavor to it, and in a matter of minutes the ice melted and it got watery. Will pass on that next time. All in all, the food tastes great and thats the only reason I keep going back. Substitute the 1/4th of a Naan with kabuli pulao and you won't regret it. We went there for dinner last night and the service was painfully slow. The staff were super sweet but it took forever for food to come in phases. Like one entree then wait, another entree then wait, then another entree then wait....what made it worse their portions are small so we ordered more food and after an hour we were just eat our chapli kabobs with no rice or bread because we already ate that after waiting for an hour. Most of the places like Texas kabob house and a shaharzad have two beef skewers I'm the beef koobideh entree; however, here it's just on measly skewer at the same price. I have yet to find better Afghani cuisine in Dallas than Express Kabob. Always fresh and the perfect serving size. The service isn't always THAT great but the food totally makes up for it in my opinion. Honestly, everythinggg is good here so you can't go wrong. For appetizers, I like the bolani and mantu. Pros: The food is made fresh. The lady that was working was nice, really hospitable even for a take out order, and the hummus and meat were quite great. Information on a really impactful organization that was holding a benefit that night. Cons: The rice and spinach were not good, and I really wish that they had an option to buy the kabob by itself or offered made gluten free naan. The wait for to go does take time because food is made fresh. Although my meal was not perfect, I will be back! The hummus and meat are good, learning that I could financially support orphans in Haiti for less than my monthly cell bill made them excellent. While this is not really 4 star but 3 stars will be highly unfair. We decided to get food to go and ordered Chicken Kabob Combo and Lamb Kabob with Naan. The Combo is served with Rice, Naan and 2 sides. We choose Fries and Mixed Vegetables. Everything except the Naan. The Naan was quite hard and quite chewy. The Kabuli Rice was good so were the vegetables and the fries. The chicken kababs were soft and succulent, the lamb kabobs were well cooked but not as succulent. Combos are served with rice, naan, and choice of 2 sides. I got the spinach and hummus, and he got the mixed veggies and fries. Everything was delicious. We really loved the rice made with shredded carrots and raisins. The chutney served with the naan was good, but the hummus blew it away. I loved the hummus.. Probably the highlight of my meal. My husband enjoyed his lamb chops and I enjoyed my ribeye, which was prepared with a little spice which I liked. The menu includes other Afghan specialities, which include Mantu dumplings and bolani, as well as desserts. Tried the Chapli Kebab, Chicken Kebab, Bolani and Pulao and everything was just done right. Their naans are huge and fresh. The chutney was delicious and the side of veggies and a different,pleasurable taste. The spinach was kind of bland though. The first time we tried,they didnt give any chutney and the naans were a bit dry but the next time there was ample chutney and hot naans. Wanted to try the rice pudding but unfortunately they were sold out for the day. My only complaint is that the food takes a long time but they said since they recently opened, they are working on making the wait time shorter.
