    Fried Cauliflower

I've been wanting to try Arash since I read about it earlier this year in D Magazine and a party of four of us finally got to stop by and try it on Saturday night. We ordered several shareables and entrees and pretty much all of the food was incredible. Standouts were the bread service with excellent sesame bread, Persian hummus, fried cauliflower, and chicken thigh kabob rice plate. Lamb was very tough and the curry is on the more watery side but had goo flavor. I was so impressed by how tender all the chicken we had was, even the white meat chicken was super moist! Fried cauliflower was light and paired well with the dips. Warm eggplant dip has a delightful mint flavor and great textural crunch from the nuts. Service was definitely on the slower side considering the restaurant wasn't super full and there were multiple servers; we had to ask for a water refill multiple times. However to make up for it we were provided with multiple more rounds of bread without being charged - we still have some at home right now and have been munching on it since Saturday. Definitely want to come back again in the future with an even bigger group to try more of the extensive menu and enjoy the favorites we've already had!

Authentic, tantalizing, and sumptuous PERSIAN and MIDDLE-EASTERN CULINARY delights at the newly opened ARASH PERSIAN GRILL in Richardson, TX - Check it out! It is a fact that many exotic cuisines are constrained to play 'second fiddle' since their "brand" is unknown relative to other cuisines from the same geographical region! As a 'Gastronome and Culinary Anthropologist', I have many examples to offer based on my observation of 'Culinary Life-cycles' across the US of A and the world as below: 1. The fantastic and sumptuous street foods and mind-blowing curries from SINGAPORE-MALAYSIA-INDONESIA are dwarfed by their peers from INDIA, CHINA, THAILAND, KOREA, and VIETNAM! 2. The UK and Australia each has over 20,000 "INDIAN" Restaurants - over 80% of which are run by Bangladeshis and Pakistanis, since cuisine from Pakistan, and Bangladesh (both of which were a part of undivided India) often cannot stand on their own, unless usually marketed as "INDIAN CUISINE"! 3. While we all know FALAFEL, SHAWARMA, TABBOULEH, HUMMUS and BABA GHANOUSH from the MIDDLE EAST, with its origins in LEBANON and ubiquitous across Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and even ISRAEL, far lesser known are their even richer and more sophisticated culinary cousins from ancient PERSIA/ today's IRAN, TURKEY, and NORTH-AFRICA comprising MOROCCO, TUNISIA and ALGERIA, which are fairly distinct, and very different, with their unique blend of spices, aromas, textures and herbs - Vive Le Difference! The Arab, Persian, Turkish, and the Muslim World have contributed some of the most celebrated cuisines that light up our palates - from the Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Falafels, Zaater, Tabbouleh and Shawarma from the Middle East (Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Israel and Libya), thru the Couscous, Tagines and Bastilla from North-Africa (Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria), to the mouth-watering Kebabs, Lahmacun, Lamb Shanks, Egg Plant in multiple avatars, and the celebrated Doner Kebap (Turkey's answer to the Gyro and the Shawarma) from Turkey and Persia (Iran)! While each of these cuisines have their unique specialties, the cuisines from TURKEY, PERSIA (today's IRAN) and MOROCCO/ ALGERIA / TUNISIA are arguably the most sophisticated, in terms of the varieties of proteins, herbs, spices, condiments, textures, and cooking styles they deploy, to concoct the delicacies that tantalize our senses and indulge our palates! As a CULINARY ANTHROPOLOGIST who perseveres to "connect the dots" between History, Anthropology, Heritage, Tradition, Conquest, Culture and Cuisine, I attribute this to the rich heritage and legacy of the three empires where these Celebrated Cuisines originated from - the ancient ZOORASHTRIAN / PERSIAN empire in today's IRAN, the erstwhile OTTOMAN EMPIRE in TURKEY and the BERBER DYNASTY from MOROCCO who held sway over SPAIN and PORTUGAL (IBERIA) at their acme! We recently checked out and were blown away by the authentic and flavorful PERSIAN CUISINE from IRAN at the newly opened ARASH PERSIAN GRILL in Richardson, TX. Not only do they have a tantalizing array of KABABS and MEZZE from the MIDDLE-EAST, but also offer their Persian Delicacies with pride and tender loving care (TLC) in a modest, unpretentious, yet cosy ambiance, We loved their KASHKE BADEMJAN (their answer to the iconic BAINGAN KA BHARTA from INDIA), the PERSIAN HUMMUS, the TABBOULEH salad, offered with their homemade PERSIAN SESAME BREAD fresh from the oven, which sets you off on the culinary expedition with a sense of adventure and anticipation. The piece-de-resistance for us were the LAMB SHANK, the LAMB KOOBIDEH KABAB (which will trigger memories of PETER KAT's CHELO KEBABs from KOLKATA), and the JOOJEH KABABS (with tender CORNISH HEN that my daughter could not get enough of!). Also highly recommendeded are their tantalizing array of POLOs (Pulao / Pilafs) which were very popular with the patrons that evening. ARASH PERSIAN GRILL offers what is arguably, the finest and most authentic PERSIAN / IRANIAN CULINARY EXPERIENCE in the metroplex, at extremely competitive prices that may surprise you! Given the fantastic debut experience, we are heading back there for an encore experience this afternoon....how about you? Check it out: ARASH PERSIAN GRILL 401 W President George Bush Highway, Suite # 119, Richardson, TX 75080. Tel # (214) 468-4197. It's good and as long as you don't compare to places like Shiraz, it's awesome. But if you were to compare, there's definitely a difference in meat quality and seasoning which Arash somewhat lacks. They also did make a mistake on my order too but looking past that, the overall quality of the food is good but not the best out there. Probably the best bargain for the price though and if it were a bit closer or should I be on that side of town, I'd def stop by for their soltani!

Tried this place for the first time with my friend. The place was beautiful and well decorated with Persian art. We tried the Kebob and the gheymeh Bademjan Stew as well as salad and two yogurt drinks in which the Kebob unfortunately felt a bit too dry however the gheymeh bademjan stew was pretty good. The service could have also been better as it took some time for our waiter to take our order and to bring our food to the table. They also offered us some tea afterwards which was delicious. Overall I believe if the restaurant works a bit on their service and delivery of food also work on making the Kebob less dry they will be successful.

Service was really slow on the day we went but it seemed like maybe we went on an off day because there weren't many people servicing tables with a few large parties. Although it took a while, the food was delicious, especially the chicken, it was super tender and the complementary bread for the table was so fluffy!

Such a cute spot hidden in Richardson with some great food. I loved the sultan platter with the juiciest chicken kabobs I've ever had omgg!! Def coming back for that. The flatbreads were great apps and the bread is quite thick for it. Everything is super fresh here, but the service can be slow as they did seem low on staff during lunch. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more items!

As a Houston native living in the DFW area, one of the few restaurants we always try to hit up when we go to Houston is Avesta. There are certain circumstances that make me hold this restaurant in high regard, but one thing that stands out the most is the outstanding food. I was absolutely shocked when I heard that they were more or less opening up a satellite location. I believe it is Avesta's owner's brother who is responsible for bringing Arash to our area. So my family bee-lined to Arash, and sure enough, the menus were quite similar. But, i'll just cut to the chase: Hummus - The best hummus i've ever had was at Avesta, and it looks like they brought the recipe with them. This is superb. Toum - Also delicious. Perfect pairing to... just about anything. Chicken Sultani - The chicken chenjeh is the star here. The first time I had it in Houston, I could not understand how the chicken came out so tender and juicy. The koobideh that came with it was also perfect. The proteins came out piping hot on a huge bed of rice. This was more than enough for me to share with my daughter, and to have leftovers. Impossible Koobideh - My wife was pleasantly surprised to see a vegetarian version of the kebab, and it was delicious. This also was served on a massive bed of rice, and came with a side of grilled veggies. Now, here is the only bad part of the meal, and I thought very long and hard to determine whether or not this was enough to deduct a full star, and ultimately decided it wasn't, despite how flabbergasted I was when the server dropped off this dish: The Fried Cauliflower - Oh, man, what a small and pitiful appetizer. Every other restaurant i've ever had this, the plate came out piled high with freshly fried and perfectly seasoned cauliflower. The plate we were presented with had a scant 6 pieces of room temperature limp cauliflower that was not even seasoned. The picture on the website shows a plate full, with some garnishes of onion, and some type of dipping sauce. None of those held true. In hindsight, I should have sent this back. All in all, Arash is ABSOLUTELY worth the visit. Just avoid ordering the cauliflower. It's $9 for a plate of disappointment.

The restaurant is nice and clean. The bread and sabzi appetizer were fresh and great. The dough (yogurt drink) was one of the best we had. The menu was most diverse that I have seen. Almost too many options! The food was good but the lamb kabob was chewy. The service was the worst that we have ever had in a restaurant. Had to chase after the server to get water, order food, and get the check. Did not ask us if everything was good or need anything else. It was not even busy for the number of servers. The music was too loud and fast, sounding the same. Not sure what the other people who have 5 stars see in this!

Located in a developing shopping plaza so parking was easy. Server was nice and courteous. The food was fresh and tasted great. Will plan to come back to try other dishes on the menu!

Amazing Persian restaurant! The food is excellent, the seasoning is incredible, and the flavors truly remind me of home. Highly recommended! Yummy... I will definitely come back for more

Overall, it was good. The bread and herbs served when you are seated was really good, we really enjoyed it. The chicken kabob was really good, one of the best we've had. Unfortunately, the koobideh kabob wasn't great. Flavor was fine but it was tough and hard to cut into, maybe it was overcooked. Overall, we had a good experience and prices were very reasonable compared to other Persian Restaurants.

This should be 4.5 star. The place is clean, welcoming and open. The service was quick and friendly, but we came for the food. We tried a few dishes and some were 10/10 and some a hard pass. They start with a side of delicious fresh bread to which we added a side of hummus and baba ghanoush. Both were terrific. The lamb koobideh was juicy and definitely a repeat dish for us. I love fish and was excited for the mahi mahi kabobs, but was deeply disappointed with the few pieces of rubbery briquettes on my plate. They were so overcooked and overpriced! Just made me sad that the fish was killed twice. The beef and chicken koobideh combo (not pictured) was a 5/10. The beef was ok, but the chicken was very dry. We also tried the Dubai cheesecake. It was NOT WORTH the price or the calories. It was a sugar overload without the traditional pistachio flavor. We all just took a bite of it and didn't bother finishing it. I will be back to try more items on the menu. The sides of rice and grilled veggies that come with entrees is delicious and could be a meal on its own

Best take out Bread can beat any bakery in town. Hummus its top noch Chicken so juicy That is my spot

Afrah is THE place to be for Mediterranean food - before Greenville Ave became Arab central, before there was anyone, there was Afrah. A beautiful, airy restaurant with gorgeous seating, a bustling dessert case, ice cream center and so many treats to offer under one roof. Afrah is to the Muslim community in Richardson as a glove is to a hand. It truly is a one stop shop for all your nostalgic cravings, and it would be a grave injustice on my part if I didn't stop by here and sing praise to one of the most loved Mediterranean restaurants in the DFW area. We visited here recently for an iftar buffet experience and were very very happy with the food we got. The buffet line was running smoothly, from staff working diligently to hand everyone a tray with napkins, plates and cutlery already set for you. Waiters were going around the massive dining hall clearing plates, making sure everyone had what they needed, seating patrons and asking if everything tasted good. This establishment runs like a literal well oiled machine and I am so impressed. The food was as always out of this world. Carefully prepared menu that satisfies everyone's taste buds. A good selection of classic cold appetizers like the baba ghanoush, hummus, and variety of salads. Always including something unique for a typical Middle Eastern flare. Hot lentil soup available with bowls carefully placed in the vicinity. So many different types of kebabs and freshly made hot pita bread being replaced like clockwork. The buffet had many of my favorite classics like Shawarma meat, beef kebab, chicken kebab. Lamb, chicken stew, baked chicken, everything was present in abundance. They even had salmon which I deeply appreciated as a seafood lover. My only complaint is the food wasn't hot enough which can be annoying with a buffet that is serving so many people during a busy time like Ramadan. Everything tasted absolutely phenomenal and when I returned for dessert, I was greeted with six different types of sweets from all over the world. That's the thing about this place. There's always something for everybody. The dining hall was bustling with not just Muslim patrons, but also a lot of American white patrons who equally enjoy the food here as much as we do. Inclusions of dishes like shrimp pasta, fried fish, chocolate mousse, and other fan favorites is a humble nod to non-Arab customers who love to frequent this place as much as we do. If you are looking for a quality Mediterranean experience look no further than this long-standing Mediterranean Haven. Thank you for nourishing the community.
