For as long as I can remember, my family and I have been visiting this Mediterranean institution on Polk Street. Afrah is THE place to be for Mediterranean food - before Greenville Ave became Arab central, before there was anyone, there was Afrah. A beautiful, airy restaurant with gorgeous seating, a bustling dessert case, ice cream center and so many treats to offer under one roof. Afrah is to the Muslim community in Richardson as a glove is to a hand. It truly is a one stop shop for all your nostalgic cravings, and it would be a grave injustice on my part if I didn't stop by here and sing praise to one of the most loved Mediterranean restaurants in the DFW area. We visited here recently for an iftar buffet experience and were very very happy with the food we got. The buffet line was running smoothly, from staff working diligently to hand everyone a tray with napkins, plates and cutlery already set for you. Waiters were going around the massive dining hall clearing plates, making sure everyone had what they needed, seating patrons and asking if everything tasted good. This establishment runs like a literal well oiled machine and I am so impressed. The food was as always out of this world. Carefully prepared menu that satisfies everyone's taste buds. A good selection of classic cold appetizers like the baba ghanoush, hummus, and variety of salads. Always including something unique for a typical Middle Eastern flare. Hot lentil soup available with bowls carefully placed in the vicinity. So many different types of kebabs and freshly made hot pita bread being replaced like clockwork. The buffet had many of my favorite classics like Shawarma meat, beef kebab, chicken kebab. Lamb, chicken stew, baked chicken, everything was present in abundance. They even had salmon which I deeply appreciated as a seafood lover. My only complaint is the food wasn't hot enough which can be annoying with a buffet that is serving so many people during a busy time like Ramadan. Everything tasted absolutely phenomenal and when I returned for dessert, I was greeted with six different types of sweets from all over the world. That's the thing about this place. There's always something for everybody. The dining hall was bustling with not just Muslim patrons, but also a lot of American white patrons who equally enjoy the food here as much as we do. Inclusions of dishes like shrimp pasta, fried fish, chocolate mousse, and other fan favorites is a humble nod to non-Arab customers who love to frequent this place as much as we do. I went to Afrah for a work event and had the buffet. It was good! I tried pita, kebab, chicken, falafel, rice, fruit etc... All of the food was well seasoned and enjoyable. There wasn't really any service to speak of since its buffet style. The ambiance was a pretty typical cafetera style restaurant. Overall, it was decent food, but I would not seek out to return here to eat. It was nice for a work event and very convenient. We were accommodated well. read more

I've been going to Afrah ever since we moved to Texas and they never disappoint. Don't miss the pita appetizer- you won't regret it. The pita is fluffy and hummus tastes fresh and smooth. The kids pizza is really tasty (a white pizza but slightly greasy) and gyro sandwiches are LOADED! Coming from someone who is not a huge fan of fries- these are awesome!! It is a very open and spacious space, though keep in mind if you sit on the patio that some people smoke Hookahs out there. This is one of my favorite places in Richardson to feast for lunch. The lunch buffet is such a great deal and price. Brought my friend he from out of the country and he was so amazed with the flavor and the amazing fresh pita and food. The service is buffet for lunch so very much self service but worth the low price. For $20 you can eat all the delicious kebab meat and wood-fire pita to your choosing. The fruit is freshly cut and well selected and the rice pudding reminds me of Teyta's. My father who is Egyptian loves this place and so does Guy Fieri. It's for a good reason. The ambiance is comfortable luxury. You're getting a great deal and the quality of the food is where your money is going. But the interior is still spacious and luxurious. It's always a great dining experience when visiting this Mediterranean restaurant! The food quality is great as well as the friendly service! I highly recommend their hummus, it's velvety smooth and creamy!! Their lentil soup is exceptional as well as their Shawarmas, Kebabs, and felafel. Same room for their desserts! I've been coming to Afrah's lunch buffet for many years now, even before when they had their much smaller location. The new building is massive and you can take a large group here without a reservation easily. The food quality hasn't changed since they moved to the larger building, which is good. They carry all the dishes you would expect a Mediterranean buffet to have but there's one thing they have here which I don't always see everywhere. I don't know what it's called but I'm obsessed with their stewed eggplant, tomato, and garlic dish. Ali Baba is slightly better selection-wise and quality-wise but Afrah's is still very good and a few bucks cheaper. The dessert bar is better at Afrah. Their dark chocolate mousse is very rich and delicious. I've tried 5 or so Mediterranean places for lunch and Afrah is the only other place I will frequent besides Ali Baba. read more

Afrah is a staple halal restaurant that you take visitors when they come to Dallas, or if you are bored and want to go out once in a while. It is on the pricey side, but I get dishes seperately (rather than the family meal) and it is good enough price wise. We got different dishes to try. Lamb Kebab: it was a bit on the chewier side but I still enjoyed it. The flavor was nice, and I liked this best with the pita. Beef Kebab: this was my favorite. It's very soft, moist, tender, and flavorful. Perfect with anything Chicken Kebab: I am glad they don't overcook the chicken because this was very juicy and tender. The only thing is it tastes less flavorful compared to the other meats. Gyro: the gyro is just like normal gyro, perfect with the pita bread with the accompanied sauces. The appetizers were all nice, the only one I didn't enjoy was the cilantro salad. The service is very friendly and quick. Even on a busy Saturday night, the wait time is not that long. They do not take on the phone reservations. The ambiance of afrah is why people come back here often. If you want to smoke hookah, they have an outdoor location, but you need to be 21+. Despite the vibrant atmosphere, the absence of a designated non-smoking section in the open airspace was a major drawback, particularly for families with children or expectant mothers. Great first time experience at Afrah! Such an interesting restaurant. When you walk in the door you immediately see a huge dessert case display of freshly baked offerings, plus a large selection of gelato! This portends only good things to come! There is an extensive menu of Mediterranean food. I had the appetizer sampler and a bowl of lentil soup. Huge hot from the oven pita bread was the perfect complement to both! We also tried the chicken shawarma dinner and between the two of us we had so much food left over. When they bring you your to-go containers, they also provide sturdy plastic bags, which so many places do not do! To me this is a step above and beyond for their customer. Farah is a great Mediterranean restaurant with a lot of great options on the menu. I have had a great experience every time I go there with my friends. The price for what you get is really a good value. I always have leftovers, a lot of food. The service is top notch and they keep my water full the entire meal. They check on me often even if it is a packed house. The restaurant is good for small or very large groups/families. They do have a buffet but I have never been there and it might only be active for Ramadan. I am unsure. While they do have hookah there as well it is in a different area of the restaurant and it is not something you can smell or get smoke around you inside. So that is nice to be able to enjoy food smoke free. I would highly recommend this place for quality and quantity of food and the ability to bring many large groups in. read more

This restaurant is amazing. The food and service was impeccable. My cousin and I came on a Sunday evening and it was packed! Parking was plentiful however the restaurant is massive and many of the tables indoors and outdoors were full. The appetizers are excellent and so was all the food. We had to share because a lot of food is served to you. The pita is hot and fresh and shawarma was juicy and seasoned so well. I hadn't been here for a few years but I had a craving. On this site, I saw a special lunch menu with great prices. But when I got there, all they had was the lunch buffet. Knowing that it was awesome, I stayed and prepared to stuff my face. Appetizers were good: hummus and fattoush sales were good, as was the tabbouleh. But the lentil soup, which had been the star of the show, was different; it lacked the spices I remember. Still OK though. But then, the mains. This is where we drop stars. Squash blossom filled with rice and beef was good; I had never had this before so it was a nice surprise. The chicken dishes were also good. But the kafta was so well done, I couldn't eat it. And I had to slice the falafel with a knife; they were really overcooked. Desserts were good, especially the orange custard, very refreshing. But like the soup, the rice pudding was disappointing. For me, it was not as good as a few years ago and it was expensive. There are other similar buffets in town; I'll try one of them next time I get a craving. read more

Dined here for my dad's birthday a few Saturdays ago. We were seated promptly around 1:30 pm, but were ignored for about 15 minutes. Even after getting a server's attention, it took another 5 minutes before a waitress hurriedly asked for our drink orders. We ordered lamb chops, the spicy sausages, Kaftah, and beef kebabs. Best according to kids were the lamb chops, but they were overcooked for my taste. The spicy sausage was not that good, it wasn't that spicy, and the texture was weird. Ambience is great for a sit down and a relaxing meal. They have hookahs in the patio which I would have done were it not for the kids. But the smoke smell kept coming to the dining room so that maybe a bothersome for some. Overall the meal is overpriced, you pay for the atmosphere here, not much more. read more

We were looking forward to trying this place because they had a separate area for hookah as well as food. We sat in the "outdoor" area and got the double Apple mint flavor which was great. The ambiance was also great but looks can be deceiving. The service was disappointing to say the least. The restaurant was around 30-40% capacity and it took ~30 minutes until a server came to us after we were seated to get our order. We ordered large fries and 2 pc. kibbeh as the appetizer and 2 gyro sandwiches and 1 chicken shawarma sandwich. We got our water 20 minutes later and It took almost an hour for us to get our food. And for some reason only two of the waters had lemon out of the three, but we were never asked about any lemons. The sandwiches were good but nothing special. The chicken shawarma was missing the garlic sauce so we asked our server, Lidia, to bring it. Halfway through our meal, the kibbeh was finally brought to us. An hour later after we finished our meal, the server asked us if we were done eating and how the checks should be split. We let her know we never got the garlic sauce and requested it for our leftover to go boxes. She brought the box and sauce, then came back after 15 minutes to finally tab us out. I'm not sure if they didn't have enough servers or if ours was being stretched too thin but it was not a pleasant experience. I will probably try a different place next time. read more
