I'd been craving pastitsio (Greek lasagna) and moussaka for a while, and after searching around, I finally found a few places that served them -- Al Wadi being one of them. It's not exactly close to me, but the menu convinced us to give it a try. My husband went with the buffet and enjoyed the variety -- hummus, gyro, salad, and pita bread -- and felt the price was a great value for what was offered. I ordered the pastitsio. It wasn't quite the same as the versions I've had in Chicago, where I've enjoyed both homemade and restaurant-made versions. This one was still enjoyable, but not as flavorful as I remembered. The béchamel sauce was creamy, though I felt it needed a bit more seasoning, and the tomato sauce leaned a little too soupy for my taste. I took the moussaka to go. It had a very similar flavor profile to the pastitsio, but instead of pasta, it featured layers of eggplant and ground beef. It was comforting and hearty, though the flavors felt a bit repetitive between the two dishes. The cheese bread that came with both the pastitsio and moussaka was really good -- warm, soft, and a great pairing with the meal. Service was fantastic -- friendly and attentive -- and the space, while small, had a cozy, homey feel. Overall, I'm glad I finally got my pastitsio fix, and it was a pleasant experience. read more

Could have been better if they gave me the CHICKEN SHAWARMA that I ordered instead of the BEEF SHAWARMA that it turned out I did not like once I got home with my take out. Lesson learned. I wish this restaurant would get their web site working correctly so I could order online because having to call in a order and now learning their people might not get it right is making me think twice before ordering from them again. I know, I should have opened and checked the order but seriously, why should a restaurant be in business if it cannot get the orders right? I had a Gyro sandwich my husband had a lamb shank came with salad and rice I was so stuffed I couldn't even finish my entire sandwich or the appetizer. This family run restaurant and middle eastern market is a gem. Our family and I have been dining here for 20 years and they are just consistently great Greek and Middleastern food. They are still open for takeout and please stop in to support them. I just had takeout from here last night and it was just superb, with left overs. Right now it's a husband and wife team only keeping things alive, but they keep cranking out mama's Lebanese recipes. Well, this proved to be a disappointment of rather epic proportions. As I had a hankering for a Greek salad and as the Best Ever Greek Salad sadly went away with Bizzi's around the corner on Harwood closing, I poured over YELP reviews last evening looking for an offering here in NE Tarrant county that we had not yet sampled. As the reviews on YELP were very good with at least one recommending the Greek salad we decided to give Al Wadi a whirl today. On Saturday at 12:30 PM we were initially the only occupied table. By the time we left two more tables were occupied. We wanted the addition of chicken to the salad and as I'm hearing impaired and could not understand the explanation of the chicken options my wife did the ordering and the chicken that we chose to top the salad proved to be the consistency of coarsely ground beef. This is not a complaint. We ordered it. Just a report, although I would not recommend it as it was not in that consistency a very enjoyable addition to the salad at all. The Romaine was fresh and crisp and the salad consisted of the usual red onion, tomatoes, kalamata olives, very nice small cucumber rounds (Persian?), fresh feta cheese, and one whole pepperoncini. The dressing, however, was nothing like any Greek salad dressing we've ever had before. Very nondescript and bland. I would have never guessed this was a Greek salad if were served to me blind. It was palatable enough, but not enjoyable. The greatest disappointment however (and disappointment is a generous comment) was in the half chicken we ordered to go, to take home for supper. When we got home and I opened the container to take a look my first words were "Sam's Warehouse rotisserie chicken!" Upon sampling it I said, "Maybe even some discount grocery store rotisserie chicken". If not, it is definitely an identical clone of a commercial rotisserie chicken. But with this one one exception: it was so dried out and tough as to be inedible. I tried. It was tough as leather. In 72 years I have never had chicken like this. Not even when I was, like, grilling drunk or something. And $13.00! So, I dunno. Every store has it's off days and meals. And there are lots of great reviews here. So give it a try it for yourself and let us know. read more

Hadn't been here in almost 4 years, and it didn't disappoint! Pita was fresh and warm, hummus smooth and tasty. House salad dressing fresh and lite. Lamb kabobs cooked to perfection with seasoned tender cubes of lamb and shrimp kabob just as tasty--and the shrimp were not dry or chewy at all! We will he back again soon, so sure! read more
