Great little Mediterranean spot in Richardson. The owner is so sweet and kind, he's just very happy to have you there as his guest. We had the chicken and beef kebab platters, both were perfectly cooked, juicy, and delicious. The addition of lentil soup and hummus with fresh pita bread took it over the top. Probably my favorite type of food Let's face it, we're so lucky to have virtually every type of cuisine at our fingertips...it's so great to find a place like this that's welcoming & warm. I was in Richardson for a conference and decided to try out Grand Cafe because it was suggested to me by my colleagues. The atmosphere is inviting and the food is very delicious. I had the Falafel Veggie Platter and you could tell that it was made with love. It was just like my mother used to make it. Which brings up the excellent service. Honestly, you feel like family when you walk in. The staff is so kind and welcoming. I wish that I didn't live so far away because I actually miss this place. To be honest, I was underwhelmed by the food EXCEPT for the falafel. The falafel here is hands down the best I've had. While the hummus had an excellent, smooth texture, the flavor was lacking for me. The shish kabob was dry and chewy, and again, lacking in flavor. On a more positive note, the customer service was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful explaining the different menu items offered. read more

I tried this place today and it wasn't bad at all! I would go back for the service alone. I ordered the platter with only chicken and beef chunks (I skipped on the ground beef) and falafel. It was a lot of food! Lentil soup - it was ok. I've had better but you could tell it was made with love. Chicken - it was decent. Nice char but could have used more salt. Beef - it was cooked well, but my pieces were a bit chewy. Also could have used more salt. Hummus - the best I've had in the states. So good! It had the perfect amount of lemon juice and Tahini. Chef's kiss! Rice - blah. Plain white rice. I wish they had yellow rice or had seasoned it. Pita - basic. Nothing to write home about but tasted fresh and it was soft. Falafel - I am not a huge fan of sesame seeds on my falafel and there's comes this way. It wasnt horrible, I'd just prefer it without them. However, they were hot and fresh. Garlic sauce - I asked if they had some since the meat was missing salt. It did the job - very garlicky, very good. Tabouli - a little more liquid than I like, but fresh and tasty. The couple that own the place know their regulars and the wife asked me how I found the place since she could tell it was my first time there. I told her Yelp. She was so excited, told me how they'd been there 20-something years, and said over and over how she hopes I like the food. She constantly asked me if I was happy and to please write a review. I told her I would, so I am. Best place to eat Mediterranean food in Richardson? No. Best customer service in the area? Absolutely. And for this reason, I will be back. read more

I just way to say, I'm happy to see this place getting a lot of attention lately, especially from a more diverse crowd. For a long time, much longer than my first review or even being here in Dallas, they've been serving cheap, fresh halal food with a smile on their faces. They're truly an institution. I can't say much about service. They've never gotten my order wrong and they're as fast as they can manage while preparing meat and veggies fresh. The husband cooks while the wife runs the floor, and it's a happy little situation. The food has a very homemade appeal to it, where it's certainly something you could rough up at home, but then again, if you would, why would you be out here anyway? For a respectable price, it's already amicable, but knowing how much the owner donates to charity makes it an easy candy to swallow. Although they've had some trouble in this pandemic, I genuinely hope that this couple and their little cafe are here to stay until the day their son packs them up and let's them retire in a nice house.
