If you call Excelon, make sure you call from a local number, because evidently they don't provide service when you call from an 800 number (calling from my work line). Called in with a pretty simple question, "how much does mounting a 60 inch tv cost?" Instead got questioned why I was calling from an 800 number, then told "I will call you back." What number exactly would I be called back on? Who knows, since I never gave a call back number. I found this business through Yelp! when researching for a home theater professional. I sent a message to the company and the owner, James responded promptly. From the beginning, James took the time to listen to my price point, ideas and budget. With this in mind, James made some suggestions along the way in regards to appearance of the in-wall speakers and the location of them. I am no way a professional in this area, but James did explain things in a fashion that I was capable of understanding. After we discussed the project, I received a proposal and proceeded to set a date for the install. Fast forward a few weeks and James showed up on time with his technician. The install went well and James performed a walk through to ensure we were on the same page. Throughout the install, James provided small updates in regards to the install, which was nice. Finally, once the install was completed, James showed me how to operate the system so I could extract the most from my home theater system. James did a fantastic job upgrading my Bose 5.1 system to a 7.1 Onyko THX 1000 watt theater and configured it all with a cool remote with digital readout. My system rocks and he gets full credit for a creative solution with suspened components against the wall. read more

I found this business through an Internet search because I needed some major help in running speaker wires in my house. It was not a major job and could have easily been done "on the cheap" by tacking wires up on the wall. I wasn't really ready to commit to anyone, but that changed when James (the owner) came out to take a look at my setup. Even getting someone to come out to look was a major hassle with the other places I called. If you aren't going to commit to thousands of dollars of purchases, I guess it isn't worth their time. The Geek Squad wanted to charge me $100 just to look. However, James came out at 7:00 at night and spent an hour looking at every possible way to run the wires in the best possible way at no charge. That effort alone is what sold me on going with him. He also did not spend any effort trying to sell me equipment I didn't want or need. Finally, he bent over backwards to get me a price that I was comfortable with. In short, James did everything possible to earn my business and made me feel as valuable a customer as someone who was spending 10 times as much. I could not be more happy with the final result. The sound is great and he made it work in a room that is not conducive to good sound at all. The wires are hidden and he spent significant;y longer on the project than he projected, though he did not try to charge me even a single dollar more than previously agreed. You will know exactly what it will cost before he starts work and he will treat your home as good, or better, than his own. Excelon is a small business that is worth supporting and can deliver much better than the larger operators at a similar price point. read more

Our first job (2011) with James was incredible! He installed (in our new house) our bedroom television and hooked up all the components with ease (even did an incredible job with the wiring system!). We had him install some lighting as well throughout the house. Sadly, we re-hired him (2016) for the following work: install our 65" monitor, with an FM Tuner, DVD/CD player, Apple box, sound bar and HGTV antenna (we wanted out of the cable monopoly!), install a few lights in the house, a repeater for our WiFi and a security camera system. This was to take approximately 2 days to complete. Well it took more than 2 months! So disrespectful and unprofessional! We would call and text him, no answer! FaceBook, he just ignores you! When we did reach him he had so many different excuses (baby mamma issues, father issues, lost cell phone, eviction, etc you name it he had them!). When he said he would be here, he would mostly just not show up at all! I lost so much time from work because of this! He was real quick to come get his checks and quickly to cash them though! He left a hole in the closet after he security system was installed (I patched it up myself), disrespected the premises with no coverings (plaster dust from drilling holes in the walls, micro metal particles in my carpet when he drilled the casing for the security camera (still picking pieces up). The Apple box continually needs a reboot (it freezes), the HGTV box will not reset to the correct time, the FM tuner will not play the preset radio stations he set (they are active and valid local radio stations, hell, Alexis can play them without issue!). His first attempt he had the balls to say he was going to charge me for a visit! My husband attempted to reach him, but got blown off (typical). Extremely irritated with him. Looks like I'll have to get someone more responsible and technically better to complete his work and I guess I'll use the court system to seek restitution! Such a shame, he would really could have had a great company. read more

We had a HIK vision camera system put in a little over 2 years ago. James Thorpe, (owner?) seemed to be knowledgeable and I had read a few good yelp reviews so we went with his company. I was a little disappointed with the look of the cameras as the two they put smack dab in the middle of the front of my house are not the same in shape or size...one is a grey bubble type and the other a white tubular looking thing...inches away from each other. I had talked to him about having a stronger resolution on one of the cameras so I chalked that up to my error...I would have thought he would have told me though if they were going to look so different. I also would have thought they would have been placed at the sides of the roof...not "poke me in the eye" middle of the house where they look so ugly. Again I see this as my mistake for not checking into what I would be getting more thoroughly. Well the first year went pretty smoothly...One by one each camera went out ...stayed out for a few days to about 10 days and then came back on. Strange but since the first camera that went out came back on before James could get out to look at them I didnt even bother to contact him when each of the others took their turn. Then for some reason they no longer showed on our phones...an error code displayed so I called him and he came out in a few days made a phone call and charged me a $100 for a 15 minute visit. They stayed working for a few months then went off the phone feed again. He came back out...another $100...He really couldnt explain to me why it happened (gave me lots of different theories) but seemed to be able to fix it with a phone call. Less than a week later (October 2017)...no phone feed again...Now starts the fun...phone call after phone call...text after text...car not working, baby mama drama, every excuse known to man kind...up to the last call where he said he was probably losing his business. Terrible service and had two days wasted by their unprofessionalism. Met with the owner twice about a job, never took a single note. During our second meeting he kept asking questions we reviewed after our first meeting. Promised a quote four days after our second meeting which I never got. I followed up multiple times only to be strung along by the owner. Never once was there a call / text / email letting me know what was going on. 9 days after our second meeting the owner told me he couldn't provide a quote yet and it would be two more days because he was checking prices???? Blamed a broken leg for not being able to get me things on time. I didn't know a broken leg prevented you from doing your work on a computer or telephone. The net net is I feel this company cannot handle large scale jobs. You can use them for your house, if you want to, but I'd look for a professional. Towards the end I was just waiting for a quote to see if I actually get one. There is no way I'd pay a company $25K to do a job if they can't get a quote to me on time. read more

My brother recommended James to me. I had used him on other home projects without incidence. I approached him to update my living room with a new wall-mounted 4K TV. He was to remove the existing outdated/old-fashioned wooden TV niche and fabricate a wall with a hidden AV cabinet underneath. It all sounded wonderful. Or so I thought. His written contract appeared legitimate. However, he apparently has no license to provide the wall framing (which in fact took an inordinate amount of time to complete). He did admit that dry-walling was not his strong point. His employee (which he says is actually a subcontractor) accidentally cut my DirecTV line so I went 2 days without TV, phone, WiFi or Internet. Fortunately he and his brother eventually got it to work (albeit questionably initially). His work space was horribly messy. There was plaster and dust everywhere. I personally spent time cleaning up excessive amounts of debris so that it wouldn't get too badly ground into the wood grain of the floor. He said that he would hire a cleaning crew to clean this all up after his Drywall subcontractor completed the texturing and painting. The problem is that by then, it was too late. The damage had already been done. He took no precautions with drop cloths or plastic sheeting to enclose his work area and protect our floors, rugs and furniture. On the first day of the project the only plastic present was placed there inadequately by his "employee" (subcontractor). His continually walking over the plaster bits surely didn't help matters either. Furthermore, I suppose he was going to have the newly created equipment box painted and textured as well (not what I thought I was getting). The problem is that he had all the equipment still mishmoshedly present in this box. I asked him how he plans on the sub-woofer working but he assured me that bass sounds travel well through walls. He claims to have moved a mountain to get this project off the ground. The problem is that he moved the wrong mountain. He did apparently know the AV aspect of this project though. Please be sure to get a few drawings of your potential remodel first, you'll avoid future problems like the ones I faced. I stopped everything they were doing as, to me, it wasn't going as planned. He claims that he is owed monies for the structural labor he has no ability doing. If he had stuck to the AV portion of the project, I'm sure that everything would have worked out okay. Unfortunately for me, he did not. And unfortunately he apparently NEVER thinks that he can doing anything wrong. But I'm confident that he will dispute this statement too. read more
