We had visited other stores in the area but were put off by the high prices and the shoddy food/clothing selections. Our puppy really had a hard time the first year with stomach issues, so it was important to find a brand of food our vet recommended. Surprisingly, Gone to the Dogs was exceptional in both food selection(s) and clothing - even the toys are better made than most places offer - and the owner, Gina, and her mother, Kay, were more than helpful in guiding us to finding just what we needed and if they didn't have an item in stock (or didn't carry it in-store) they'd offer to special order and call when it arrived at a reasonable price. I know I'm waxing poetic about GTD (I honestly love this place), but I'd be remiss in not mentioning that the one (and only) time we had an issue with a product Gina gladly offered a discount for another item. (Had to bring this up because of another customer's negative posting) I admit to buying items that didn't work out for our dogs but knew that returning wasn't an option and was okay with this...lesson learned and a bit poorer. HA I As our dog family grew to two, I have to say the last couple of years of visiting more than a few times a month has endeared Gina and Kay to our family and we would be lost without the shop! Sound advice is plentiful, as is a good sample treat with a head rub for our dogs every visit and the doggy bakery (birthday cakes, cookies, etc.) is like no other! Honestly, the bottom line is that there is no other place like this in the Wakefield area. The prices are reasonable, quality & selection of products amazing, customer service outstanding.

I entrusted my dog's grooming to an employee named Henry, whom I believe misled me regarding his capabilities. When giving specific instructions, Henry admitted he wasn't a professional groomer, but assured me he could handle the job even though I offered to pay a cancellation fee. He said he didn't want his time wasted and was very persistent that my dog get groomed. He said he would prep my dog for the certified groomer who would be doing the trim at the end. Upon picking up my dog, I was shocked and upset to find that she had received a full haircut instead of the requested trim, which was completely unsuitable for her breed (a woolly husky). The cut penetrated her undercoat which allows her to regulate temperature in the summer. Henry, rather than taking responsibility, argued that I had requested a haircut which was "appropriate for a husky", which is untrue. Fortunately, the groomer, Karyn, who understood the situation apologized sincerely. Upon closer inspection at home, I discovered that my dog still had matting, had a very uneven haircut, was unexpectedly covered in oil (which was not the case when I dropped her off), and her feet were still dirty,--issues Henry had claimed he would address but did not. Following my initial concerns, I had a phone call with the owner of the Dirty Doodle, which further highlighted their unprofessionalism and unwillingness to accept responsibility for the poor service. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this establishment, particularly for owners of long-haired dogs. It appears they may be better suited for grooming short-haired breeds. I had to get my dog groomed elsewhere same day.

I talked to Sarah (one of the groomers that shares space with them) and she completely understood the situation, as well as how "needy" he would be since every time he had been dropped off somewhere lately, surgery or something scary had happened. Sarah was able to schedule him in just a few days, I dropped the boy off first thing in the morning and he was definitely soothed by her calming personality. When I picked him up a couple of hours later, he looked terrific and wasn't as crazed as he usually is after he has been without me! Sarah is in a room by herself, so it was just a one-on-one with music, so he wasn't freaked out by a lot of dogs running around and barking. Sarah understood the situation of a sweet pup who is just getting older with medical issues (cancer and arthritis), and that made me feel so much better. She operates her grooming business as All that Jazz Grooming, you can reach her there or connect through Karyn at the Dirty Doodle (love that name!!). Woof Woof!!

Not only is it an absolute joy for us pawrents to visit so often but our furbaby also has a blast getting tons of attention, scritches and treats from the staff. A huge shoutout to the lovely Chloe who has made every visit so wonderful! Thank you Chloe for being so kind to us, so knowledgeable and so sweet to Rari! Some of Rari's favorite Polkadog treats are the cod skins, green monstahs and the chicken littles! She'll literally do anything for Polkadog treats!! The cod chips are also one of her favorites but those only come in the pre-packaged bags. There is a huge selection of Polkadog treats in store available per weight or pre-packaged. We usually opt in for the per weight option because we like to pick and mix treats, control the amount and save a little bit while we're at it! If you do purchase the pre-packaged bags, you can bring back the empty bags to the store to be recycled. The store is decently sized and always very clean. They also carry other brands of pet food, accessories and toys. But we mainly gravitate toward the Polkadog brand treats (because Rari demands so)! We've noticed Polkadog treats are super high in quality with very simple ingredients. It's also a bonus that their treats are made local in Boston! The best dog treats are from Polkadog!! Paw-lease go to Polkadog for all your dog (and cat) needs!! I highly recommend them.
