This store is entirely unprofessional. I bought three fish a month ago and within 24 hours 1 fish was already dead. During my purchase I had explained the size of the tank and had the store owner test the water to make sure the tank was set to go. He gave me a credit for a free fish. I then went back Saturday afternoon and bought 3 more fish, and again had the water tested and approved. I brought the fish home and by Monday morning 2 of the 3 fish were dead. I brought them back to the store to prove what had happened, but he refused another credit and offered no explanation as to why the fish were dying. He took no responsibility and scolded me, saying that he already lost money on my prior purchases. All I ask is for accountability and for honest representation of a product. I will be taking my business elsewhere and recommend that other pet owners do the same. read more

Doc's has been around since I can remember. They have a good selection, I have always found what I needed. I have never found any expired dog food. I'm sure that if I couldn't find something, the owners would order it. They are knowledgeable and helpful. I shop here in order to support the few mom and pop stores left around here. read more

I have gotten expert advice here on so many occasions and saved a ton of money as a result. Unlike most businesses today their goal is not to upsell or make you spend more than you should. Came by here to support a local business instead of going to a national chain. Disappointed, the store was dusty and the man at the register seemed unfriendly. Fish selection was poor, and the aquariums were haphazardly arranged. All but one of the saltwater tanks has fish in them. Asked for SMALL crickets, and was unhappy when they all turned out to be massive, full grown adult crickets. MY sister has an anime lizard, and the crickets were far to large for him. When I shop for pet food I'm not looking for a new best friend! Just a clean store, stocked shelves and someone waiting to check me out in a timely manner. But I got more! These people are friendly, knowledgable, helpful. Best of all, their dog food has never been on a recall list and is human grade! I live and work nearby so it's quite convenient also. I'm all about supporting small business and I shop here when I can. But my God is the owner just not happy. Not interested in answering questions, or engaging little kids when they're excited to buy a fish or anything. We've gotten him to open up a bit once and engage in a conversation with his parents, but all in all - there's definitely a feeling of him being less than interested in helping anyone. But again, they're small business so I try to support them. Overall their stock and supplies are solid and they have just about anything you could need for your pets without being overwhelmed by a million brands. What a disappointment in a local business. My kids got 2 hamsters, making sure to ask that both be female because we didn't want to end up with more. From the 1st hours home, one of the hamsters was fighting and biting the other... Within 24 hours, it stuffed all the shavings, to block the other one. Long story short...turns out it was pregnant. It was aggressive, and smelly. This all occurred within 48 hours of purchase. We spoke with doc's and were told they would not accept the hamster back. They took NO responsibility in accepting that they mixed male/female and that pregnancy was a possibility. We are talking SIXTEEN DOLLARS here. Not to mention they didn't even ask for money back. He refused the return, and whether or not that's legal doesn't really matter. Morally he handled this poorly, and here in his own town. Pity! He was absolutely miserable! (he did however offer to take the babies to make a profit!!!) I would NEVER, NEVER EVER spend a penny in that store, and will make sure EVERYONE knows the story. The man made everyone in my party feel unsafe and uncomfortable, he really isn't very friendly. The place didn't seem very clean or sanitary and dont even get me started on the housing of the guinea pigs. The poor things we're in a cage that was too small for even a hamster. You can tell little care is put into keeping the animals in a decent enclosure. If I can give any advice to the owner please keep your guinea pigs in an appropriate sized space or do not sell them at all!! The one hamster that was in there also didn't have appropriate room or a proper house that he may burrow into. They only sold wire wheels which are extremely dangerous for hamsters. I'd recommend just going to your local pet smart, which i understand do not have the best track record either, but at least they give their guinea pigs room to run around!! read more

This store tried to sell expired dog food. On a bag of Innova Evo (an expensive food) they tried to change an expiration date from 2007 to 2008. Stick with online ordering or Petlife in Stoneham. read more

I have been going to Docs for years....they are very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions if you have any...other than that they leave you alone which i like..not pushy sales people at all..they have a good selection and it is nice to do business with the smaller stores when possible... also, i volunteer at an animal shelter and i asked if they ever had any pet food/supplies they would be willing to donate and the owner said he did...they donated a ton of high quality dog and cat food to the shelter! read more

Walking around the store, everything looks old...dirty and old. Many items look like they've been sitting on the shelves for years. (I'm pretty sure they have been sitting there for years!) Their prices are average to high on almost everything. If you specifically ask for assistance, they'll give it to you begrudgingly, but they never come across friendly or exceedingly helpful. The live animal selection is very small, though they do have some pond fish (Koi?) just inside the front door. (Which you don't run into everywhere!) In the end, there is nothing that this store offers that the big chains don't offer and on most things you'll find here, the big chains are cheaper. If you live nearby and need to pick something up quick, that's the only reason you'd ever want to stop here. read more

Not sure what all the negative reviews were about but the man that helped us out with our Guinea Pig, cage and accessories was quite helpful. He answered all the questions my daughter and I had and also gave us good advice about the care of the animal and how to keep the little guy happy. Now my daughter is happy, and so am I. When I go to a pet store, I want convenience, a knowledgable staff, good prices, and good advice. Doc's got my business. Thanks! P.S. Docs Petland is where I definitely would choose to get all my fish! I don't buy any other pets from pet stores unless it's from a shelter but I do have a gerbil I decided to get there and it is very healthy a year after I got her! They have lots of healthy pets foods for all different types of animals! They do not sell cats, dogs or birds but they do have lots of different fish, a snake , a turtle and tortoise, gerbils, hamsters, hermit crabs, and guinipigs! I do recommend shopping here for your pet! The owner could just be a little more open but he's nice over all:) read more

I have been buying cat and dog food here for years. I don't know what's with all the bad reviews. Yeah the guy doesn't have rainbows shooting out of his arse but hes helpful, knows what hes talking about and has what I want and need. He can answer any questions I have about food/treats and always sells good quality. Plus, once you get to know him, hes a great guy. I love Doc's. read more
