She was upset because the vet would not see her cat because she was ten minutes late. TEN MINUTES! Her cat is epileptic and having seizures and they refused to see her for being late. Another reminder this morning as to why I shop PetSmart in Saugus, instead of PetCo in Saugus. Friendly customer service! I was closer to PetCo this morning and decided to run in for a bag of dog food. It was 8:46, they open at 9. Door was open, for salon customers. I asked if I could grab the dog food and wait, was told "we are not open", I asked if it was OK if I waited until 9, "yeah" then under her breathe "we are not open" I asked "are you sure?" "Yeah, ok" Again she mumbled something about not being open. So I just left, went to PetSmart on the otherside of the highway. Still not 9. Went, grabbed a bag of dog food, sales associates friendly, smiling and "good morning" Waited until 9, paid and was happily on my way. Love the customer service I always get at PetSmart. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO BE GROOMED HERE. I only wish I had read all the other reviews prior and not taken a chance on my dog. These pictures are of my poor 7 pound yorkie mix who I had to pick up from Vetco after they cut him so deeply that 2 staples and antibiotics were recommended. (I opted to try surgical glue first because we are moving and can't come back to have staples removed, so that's what you see in the pictures.) This review is not about Vetco, they were great. It's about the HORRIBLE GROOMING DEPARTMENT and MANAGER! After having my dog for half the day (longer than other locations), I get a call from the manager that there was an incident and my dog was fine but they just wanted the vet to check it out incase he needed ointment. Of course I was confused and asked questions, she did not tell me much because it's a COMMON area and MY DOG MUST HAVE MOVED. Then the Vet calls to inform me of the size (1 inch laceration) and her recommendation (the staples) and she was actually heartfelt, genuinely understanding my concern and apologized for something she didn't even do. Upon further looking over my dog at home, I see that he is basically scalped/bald in certain areas and has long hair in others. WHAT KIND OF BOTCH JOB WAS THIS ANYWAY? And what I really want to know is WHY THE GROOMER WASN'T USING A GUARD ON HER CLIPPERS?? I didn't even request the shortest cut, the bald areas on my dog are clearly no guard and there is no possible way to gash my dog like she did with a guard. This was entirely preventable and nothing my dog did (he's been groomed successfully many other times by other locations) but instead someone was negligent and clearly not trained in grooming. The groomer didn't apologize, the manager made excuses, and my dog suffered. After now reading all the horrible reviews on the grooming here, I hope corporate pays attention to my email and does something about this stores management and hiring practices, it's clear they are a liability and YOUR DOG COULD BE NEXT. PLEASE DRIVE TO MALDEN PETCO OR TAKE THEM ELSEWHERE, it's not like Petco is cheaper anyway. read more

Petco. Let me say this once, hopefully convincingly. TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES ON PROPER CARE. I am SO tired of walking into your establishment to see mistreated, stressed animals. Walked in today and witnessed SO many things wrong. Bowls of crested gecko food that were supposed to be a solid but were so watered down they looked like watery diarrhea (filled with dead, bloated, UNDUSTED crickets). Garter snakes with crickets crawling all over them and no proper hide. I could get into the fact that you had minimal leaf cover for the cresteds AND that they were not in an arboreal enclosure, but I doubt you care. You spent all this money putting flashy LED lights under your supplies, you couldn't take 15 minutes and train/hold accountable your employees for the well-being of the animals? I refuse to step through your doors until you fix these errors. I'll be going to Jabberwock Reptiles instead. read more

I've only ordered online pickup here, so I can't comment on the store or vetco itself. I can say, online ordering is a breeze, and super convenient. If the Revere location doesn't have a particular item in stock, Saugus never fails me. My order is usually ready in under an hour. I have yet to encounter a negative experience with staff. There's never a line when I go. I'm in and out, 5 mins. Reason I'm giving 4 stars, it's Petco... it's pricey, but they always have what I need for my beloved kitty. I recommend joining their loyalty program and doing a search for their current promo codes. It's actually not that bad once you factor those in. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THE GROOMERS HERE EVER MY DOG POOPED BLOOD FOR 3 DAYS!!!! if i could give them negative stars i would, my poor dog was groomed by Christine, who in the past had done a fine job but the last two times she butchered my dog, we gave her VERY direct instructions on how to groom our baby and she shaved her down to almost nothing leaving LARGE clumps of long hair all over. on top of the bad haircut when i arrived to pick up my dog they had me wait 20min then brought her out, my dog is loving and sweet she was scared shaking she was so sad and lethargic for the 3 days following her appt she stayed sad and upset pooping blood, not eating and shaking. she was seen by the vet and after some IV fluids and some bland meals she is doing better but lost lots of weight. again NEVER TAKE YOUR DOG HERE AND NEVER SEE CHRISTINE! read more

Even their vet lied saying the injury wasn't their fault. My dog is in terrible pain. The grooming dept is amazing. They are so kind and the work is always fantastic. I JUST left there and was very disappointed about the people who worked at the fish area. I just wanted two gold fish for a small tank I have and the two guys working there made it SO difficult. They grilled me about the tank I have and the system I was using. I said I just wanted two or three goldfish for a tank I have. Ive used this tank before and had a goldfish that lasted 2 & 1/2 years in it. They told me and my little niece no. I was so shocked. They give fish away at fairs for Gods sakes. I just thought it was very unfair. All for a GOLDFISH! Now, I have an upset niece. I called here on Saturday to bring my cat in to get her nails trimmed. The gentleman I spoke with said just to make sure to have her rabies vaccination paperwork and I could come right in. I came all the way from Boston because my normal place was unavailable. When I got here, there were 3 girls in the groomers and 1 dog...when I told them I had just called and was told to come in, they said they were too busy and I must have called the wrong place. I confirmed the phone number with them and again they told me they were too busy to take me. Next time, they should check with the groomers before they send someone all over there. I was beyond aggravated that I traveled all the way there to have 3 groomers doing absolutely nothing (the chihuahua's hair was pretty much gone at that point) , tell me that they were too busy to take me. I will not return to Petco ever again....this is not the first bad experience.. .and it will be the last one. read more

I wish I could give this no stars. The new location is a joke. Took my dog to the self-wash area and it was horrendous. The instructions on the wall say to bring your dog to a drying table, well a little hard doing so without a drying table. My dog had to sit in her own bath water while i attempted to blow dry her with ice cold air for 30minutes. Keep note that it's winter so can't exactly bring a wet dog outside to air dry. Oh and good luck finding a towel or asking the groomers for help, luckily I brought my own. Groomers will give you attitude and never come over. Had to talk to TWO different managers and two groomers until one of them refunded me and none of them knew how to use their own machines. AVOID THE SELF-WASH and honestly avoid this joke of a store, they could care less about your pets. read more

I bought two "female" gerbils as classroom pets from this location a couple of years ago, and to my surprise one of them had six babies a few months later! Once they were old enough, I was allowed to 'surrender' the little ones to Petco (I know they just resold them, but they didn't HAVE to take them... then what would I have done??). Of course, by the time the babies were old enough to leave the mother, she was pregnant again with six MORE babies, so I separated the father into another tank, and, well... Petco was willing to take a few more off my hands (including daddy, though I felt guilty about giving him back...)! Anyway, the girl in the rodent department was very helpful and knowledgeable, which made me feel better. Also, this Petco offers inexpensive vaccinations once a month (a few locations do, I think), and they also work with several shelters to adopt out cats and dogs. read more

Recently, we purchased 2 fish and followed all instructions. Unfortunately, one fish died and the other one did not look healthy (we brought them back and Molly was going to try and save the one fish). My children were sad to lose their new pets. However, Molly helped us pick out a new set up (including a heater, new tank, water conditioner, and 2 new fish). She was knowledgeable and went out of her way to ensure we left the store happy. My fiancee and I came into Petco to look at fish tanks and fish because we wanted to get a little start up tank. We encountered an employee (I think his name is Brian), he legit followed us around the entire time we were there. He kept telling us that we can't get this or we can't get that. Everything I would say to my fiancee, the employee Brian had something to say. Well we settled on a fish tank and decided to wait on the fish till we got the tank set up. BRIAN recommended a piece of driftwood to put in the tank and said it was a good decor. We boiled it for 2 days before putting it in the tank so make sure all the color would bleed out. We put it in the tank and the next day when we woke up, the tank was ruined, you could not see the back of it. The tank was an orangish color. We did water changes daily, we took the driftwood out and boiled it again for a full 24 hours then we put it back in. It made the tank orange again. We have had to go through multiple filters already as well because when we look at the filter it would be disgustingly dirty and orange/brown looking. This employee Brian set us back a week for cycling our tank. HE RECOMMENDED IT is what annoys me because we would have a crystal clear tank by now and our cycling of the tank would have been complete. Instead, we have spent much more money on products/chemicals and anything we can get to help clear the tank. I researched everything he said about tanks and fish, HE WAS WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING AND CLEARLY DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FISH. He just wanted to make a sale. I have lost 3 fish as well because of this whole fiasco. It pisses me off that he told us to by something that ruined our tank and hurt our fish. I will never go there again, most of the fish do not even look healthy there. At Petsmart, they have employees that actually know what they are talking about and if their employees do not know something, they will find someone that will. DO NOT GO THERE FOR FISH! ANOTHER THING THAT GOT ME MAD, I bought cat food and there was a coupon for it on the bag, I brought it to the register and the coupon expired May 31st. Like really? take the coupons off the bags then and stop advertising coupons that they can not honor. read more

There was a giant pile of poop that no one cleaned up and a little girl stepped in it. I went to the groomers with my dog with a request for a bath, nail clipping, and teeth brushing. Ended up being $57. The groomer told me that she would also do a little trim around my dogs butt, mouth, and eyes but she ended up trimming the top of my dogs head, totally messed up the tail, and trimmed one of her ears. The trims were totally lopsided and I had to fix it when I got home. We also were not given a bandana nor a bow. For $57 it was a total rip off and terrible quality. I will never take my dog to this location again. I have had better experiences at other Petco locations. On the plus side my dog was happy when we left so I think that they treated her well. read more

This is my go-to pet store. The location is conveniently located right off of RT 1 which is a really big plus for me. I've found the staff to be overal pretty helpful. Some of the staff here are more knowledgeable than others, so just keep that in mind. They do have a really great selection and the prices are, well, average I guess. I went to buy more food for my dog earlier today and saw a saltwater fish that I couldn't resist. I bought it and drove home, turn off all lights and placed it in the water for temp acclimation, came back 30 minutes later and the fish was dead. I called the store and the manager said they do not do return/refund on saltwater fishes and hung up. This was my first time at this location to have my dogs nails cut. I usually hold her while they do it because she is really scared being on the table. They told me they were not allowed to let me hold her, so I hesitantly agreed to let them try it with her on the table. Jeremy was unbelievable with my dog and she was so good for him. I purchased a baby guinea pig two weeks ago and when we brought him home and put him with the other ones we realized he was sick, so they had us take him back so they can fix whatever was wrong (they did not specify exactly what it was) on top of that when we got him back they said he was FINE to come back and be with the others, now all my other guinea pigs are sick and I tell them and all they say is "take them to a vet there's nothing we can do" .. YOU SOLD A SICK ANIMAL TO ME THAT CAUSED ALL MY OTHER ONES TO GET SICK and you can't do anything about it?! So now I have to go spend a bunch of money on vet bills when this originated because they are selling sick animals? Worst place ever. UPDATE: day and a half later. I didn't even mean to hit the star. So on Saturday I took my dog to get groomed which he has been there 2 other times before this. Each time I went it was only $45, this time however they tried charging me $85 for something I didn't even ask for. When I had walked back to the grooming lady to ask about the huge price difference she had said oh that's because I did a deshedding treatment as well. I didn't ask for that. She seemed annoyed that she was going to honor it and change the price she took it down to $55 and I tipped her upon that and she was still rather rude. I wasn't going to even say another thing about it. She then proceeds to tell me how my dog needs to be trained and how he's a lot to handle! I'm sorry lady but it was a pandemic and where I was going to take him to be trained was closed due to the world shutting down!! Also I felt judged and uncomfortable even talking to her the way she was talking to me. I was treated and talked to like I was a child. I've been thinking about this non stop since then. How dare you make your customers feel the way you made me feel that day. I will never come back to petco for grooming again and I hope she gets better with handling customers. I don't know if she was new but I haven't seen her there before. My dogs name is Diggz and they have my number if you'd need to get in touch with me. Two visits to this location to buy food with a coupon, and two times, the wrong price was rung up- the guy used my coupon, so it couldn't be used again- had to finagle the deal to refund me, ring up again and kept me there both times for an extended amount of time! First time was pathetic, the incorrect transaction took me at least 20-25 minutes to straighten it out and the second time- 15 extra minutes to inconvenience ME! Cashier states- corporate puts the pricing into their computers- NEVER HAPPENS TO ME AT REVERE LOCATION. Cashier couldn't answer the question if my Pals Rewards would be affected, he said, Well, I've already used your coupon. Good riddance! Have been shopping Petco for years. I have a 6.5 month olg Newfypoo (Newfoundland and Poodle mix) giant puppy. He is low shed, but since her has hair it grows out pretty fast. I gave him a short cut when we were in Toronto for 30 bucks back in May. HIs hair is about 4 inches long now, but he isn't super miserable in they heat yet. However he was getting very bushy around the face, and we couldnt see his eyes anymore. The hair was growing on his paws, and so he was also sliding around on our hard wood floors. So, I tried to book him a puppy cut at the Everett PetSmart - but when we went in they refused to do that for him anymore cos he was over 6 months of age (even though the person who took the appointment knew his age). When I asked what they would charge for a face and paw cleanup (no bath) they said 60 bucks! So, I called Petco twice and had two very clear conversations with them. They were super friendly and courteous on the phone and assured me that they would do what I am asking for on my puppy. We took him in last weekend, and I could not be happier with the service! Danielle was a whiz with the scissors and my sort of nervous puppy was in clearly good hands. She took care of him fast and with a lot of care and love. They charged us about one-sixth what Petsmart said they would. I AM DEFINITELY TAKING ONYX BACK THERE. I am super happy happy with their level of service and their high level of professionalism and care. read more

What's even more disturbing is the way he interact with the customer.. He has spoken to me more then once . In a tone that was demeaning . Grooming - I am a first time dog owner and am a over protective fur momma to my cuddly 70+ lb. lab mix. I saw a post by a friend on fb asking about good dog grooming and petco in Saugus came up twice so I decided to give it a try and I'm so happy that I did! Jeremy and a woman (I think her name was Danielle, but I unfortunately am not 100% sure) were working when I dropped off my dog. They were both very friendly and helpful. It was obvious that my furbaby felt extremely comfortable with them considering she wasn't at all concerned when I left. I will definitely be going back and will be recommending others! read more

Every time I come here there are sick fish in quarantine or "under observation." Their fish are catching Ick routinely, they've even sold me fish with Ick (before i realized what it was) and didn't bother to tell me or anyone else for that matter! I do like their dog cookie bar though and when I was desperate to help my sister rehome a baby guinea pig Petco took him in. I came into this petco over a month ago to buy a bearded dragon. Am employee named Rachel helped us and told us she had the "most knowledge in the store on reptiles." Long story short we soon found out she didn't, we had to come back to see if someone could help us figure out why the beardie wasn't eating, going to the bathroom, and was very lethargic, and this time we were helped by a different employee named Molly. After asking us a few questions she quickly realized we didn't have any of the right lights (the ones we were told to buy previously) and essentially the poor baby was freezing! In turn he couldn't digest his food and caused him to be so inactive. Molly also helped by telling us the correct size crickets and worms to feed which we were misinformed on as well, and now we also know how to tell what is the right size for him as he grows. Now our little guy is thriving thanks to her! Will definitely be back here to speak with her if I have any questions on him in the future. read more

Mom has been asking for a fish tank for months. We went to the Petco in Saugus. We first bought a 5 gallon tank with all the fixings. I realized when I brought it to moms house there was a small crack in the plastic. We brought the tank back and mom decided she wanted a 10 gallon tank instead. They apologized for the 5 gallon tank and happily credited our credit card. We decided to purchase the kit that came with everything. I asked them if it was okay if I opened up the box to make sure the tank was not cracked. They said no problem! The second one we opened was perfect! The first one they took off the shelf to be returned. We got soooo much help from their staff. I really did not want the fish, it was mom who wanted it. Molly, Rick, and Charlie had so much patience with me. I bought three fish and they all died because my water was off the charts high in chemicals. They gladly refunded me for the dead fish. They told me what I had to do to fix the problem. I followed their instructions and I finally got it right. I love our (I mean moms) new fish tank. Molly, Rick and Charlie all had great advise in taking care of our new tank. So far so good. If I could do 6 stars I would of. read more
