Dropped in for some apps before a concert and was pleasantly surprised. Although the chili was disappointing, the crab cakes were fresh and flavorful. The firecracker shrimp was phenomenal! Think breaded/fried sweet and sour chicken with some heat (chili sauce) - substitute the chicken for shrimp and you've got it! Would say overall the dinner prices are slightly higher than average, but I'm guessing the product is worth it based on the way our apps tasted. Our waiter was nothing but smiles and positivity to a point of infectiousness where I left with a smile. Great experience and we'll definitely be back for the crab cakes and firecracker shrimp! read more

Unimpressed. Overall, I am glad that I went once, and would likely give it a second try hoping for better service, but I cannot say I would recommend it to anyone. My parents, brother, and I visited on a relatively quiet evening. My mother and I met my father and brother; the gents arrived first and ordered an app which arrived just before the ladies did. The server came over as we were sitting down per drinks and then went over the specials, not mentioning the specialty appetizer, and asked if we were ready to order as I was taking my coat off. Okay, minor annoyances - gauging a party can be difficult sometimes, so it's easily forgivable. Later, we ordered, starting with the buffalo chicken dip for the table. (The waiter seemed a little confused that another appetizer was ordered.) It was good, but something seemed a little off about it - like there were some spices that made the dip taste dry despite that it did not taste dry: it was a smooth sauce with chicken blended in. I found it more interesting than delicious, but as a buffalo chicken dip lover, it was certainly worth trying. For dinner, I ordered french onion soup and the arugula salad plus chicken. The soup arrived after the dip but before the salad. I thought I was clear in mentioning that I wanted it to arrive with the salad, but perhaps not. Again, a minor annoyance. However, our waiter did not come back to the table after dropping the soup off until he expected to take the plates away. Normally, not checking in at the regular intervals (a minute or two after leaving food on a table is standard for a quick check), but I needed a spoon. So my soup was getting cold for about ten minutes before I started picking at it with a fork. A couple of minutes later, he arrived to clear plates - my first opportunity to request the spoon, which was brought promptly. A few minutes later, dinner arrived. The salad was smaller than expected - slightly larger than a typical side salad from a chain restaurant, about half the size of a normal dinner salad. Again, okay - a minor annoyance, and I wish the menu had been more clear, but it was just that: minor. The chicken was nicely grilled; however, the arugula was lacking in its normal strong flavor. My mother ordered a different salad and it was a standard-sized dinner salad. She liked it very much. My brother ordered the lamb; he commented that he very much liked the side when prompted, but said nothing of the lamb, meaning it was likely good as well. My father had ordered a dish that came with a side he didn't want, so he requested a baked potato instead; he had been assured at the time of the order that it was no problem and that he would receive the baked potato as ordered. Instead of either of those, he received the mashed potato that was on special. Any decent waiter would have asked a patron first if that was okay (and offer the original side as an alternative) - but he didn't. Instead, he brought it out, waited for my father to stare at it confused for a few moments, then apologized and said that's what they had. Total faux pas. The ambiance was nice, although it was a bit cold next to the window siding in winter. (My mother put another layer on as we waited for our food.) The hostess was extremely (and genuinely) nice and explained the name of the restaurant to us on our way out. (It is derived from Evinrude, the name of the dragonfly in the 1977 Disney movie The Rescuers.) All in all, an okay place with some kinks to work out. read more

After a f rustrating day of travel (long story), we had to spend the night in Bangor and on a whim tried this place. WOW! The chowder is the best both my husband and I have ever had. Nothing like it and we licked the bowls clean. (Slightly embarrassed about that) The crab cakes were also the biggest and best we've ever had as well. Hardly any breading involved, and the sauces were fabulous. The blueberry pie? I Can still taste it two weeks later and I salivate thinking about it. To top things off, we absentmindedly left our credit card there (totally our fault) and were in Canada when we discovered this. Contacting the restaurant, they immediately turned around and mailed it back to us in Utah. So, staff is warm, friendly and professional. Food is outstanding, ambiance is fun and inviting and we give it a 10/10 in every way. Do yourselves a favor and go here, we certainly will upon our return. read more

We understood this was the best restaurant in Bangore and we are convinced it is. A great setting in the heart of the historic area. Wonderful ambiance in the old bank, and they do have outdoor seating. My husband's scallops were the Best of our travels and many scallops tried. My halibut was originally a bit over cooked but they promptly got it just right and the chef put a creative spin on it that enhanced it even more. Excellent sides. Nice wine. read more

Food has always been good and the atmosphere is wonderful. My issues have at times been service and the owner/hostess. If she knows you great if not you will be lucky to be acknowledged. Last visit she cleared the table and brought check without asking how was your meal? Would you like dessert? One check or two? I won't go back. read more

My husband and I split a salad and had burgers. The food was fantastic. The building is a former bank and still contains the vault.

We recently dined here for dinner. We were seated promptly (did not have reservations). My spouse ordered the seafood chowder. It was not good. It had a very thick, pasty, and almost flavorless broth with lumps of what tasted like flour and next to no seafood. I had to ask for bread as I saw that other tables had received it but we hadn't. My spouse ordered prime rib that was ok if rather thin cut. Another guest ordered the seared scallops which were a bit chewy but were acceptable. Our server seemed to not know the menu well and had to go ask others when we had a question about it. Overall we felt it was very expensive for what it was. Not planning to return. read more

Everood's makes the short list in Bangor for where I would recommend taking a friend/coworker/date for a drink as the bar is spacious, the service is usually on point (and prompt), and the cocktails/beer selection is usually excellent. Plus, the bank vault atmosphere is chic. The food is high-end average, but it's worth staying there for dinner if your happy hour extends a while. read more

We went here for our last night in Maine, actually stumbled upon it by accident because we were drawn to the ambience and lighting of the outdoor seating (but then sat indoors because the hostess cordially turned on our own flat screen to watch the football game). Service was prompt and courteous and food was just different enough to make it more special than most other places in the area (that tend to serve the blanket lobster roll with coleslaw and blueberry pie).The grilled scallops with fried polenta were excellent. They had a nice variety of draught local beers. The seafood chowder was brought to land by adding bacon-great touch which offset its liquidity a bit. Would recommend for more upscale dining or special small group events. Since we really liked the beers, they let us keep the glass! read more

While visiting Banger for the first time and walking around downtown, came across this place advertising happy hour. The place is fairly new I was told, but has a rich history as the space once was a bank. It still has the original vault that is now a dining area! The bartender Joe told me the history and pointed out photos from the bank. The space is rich in taste but very comfortable. So, the drinks are amazing! I tried a couple but really liked the blood orange Manhattan. For dinner I had the rib eye, which was perfect. As full as I was I had to try the French Toast bread pudding with bacon flavored maple ice cream, wow! read more

Very disappointing! Made reservations for my sons college graduation a month ago, got there and no table for 4 reserved! We sat in a corner by the door, very drafty! Ordered shrimp cocktails, prime rib, scallops. Waited over an hour for our meals only to get prime rib that was unappetizing, curled up from reheating and flavorless. Scallops were ok, but not note worth! Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone!! read more

Came in for lunch and found the atmosphere to be very cool and unique. The space is amazing! Started off with some cocktails which were good and tasty! The seafood chowder and shrimp cocktail were very tasty and prepared well. Shrimp was large and worth the price. For lunch we had a special, shaved prime rib sandwich and fish tacos. Both were good and the portions were just right for lunch. The sandwich was lacking a bit in flavor but overall enjoyable. The service was ok. He was very attentive but a tad overbearing for a lunch and outdoor seating but otherwise competent and nice. I'm looking forward to coming back to try out dinner. read more

We had a small meal Sunday eve: Fish chowder was amazing and Spinach salad, also wonderful. Poppyseed dressing did not over power, loads of sliced, sweet strawberries and crumbly Feta. Very tasty. So good, we went back Monday eve for a real meal; big mistake! I knew it was not !!!! the same 'chef.' The real chef works 6 nights and not Monday. As travelers, we learned the hard way. A $30. We stopped in last Wednesday for dinner for the first time. Everything looked delicious. The seafood chowder is a must. Lovely amount of seafood and the broth was on point. I had the Mediterranean burger which was cooked to perfection and had really fresh ingredients on top. My parents both had the scallops. The atmosphere is great and the history behind the building is really neat. The food was a tiny bit slow because there were 2 large parties ahead of us but our server Sean was incredibly nice and made sure our glasses stayed full. read more

My girlfriends and I (5 women in total) were met by a very nice young man and was seated right away. We chose to sit on the patio. The weather was fantastic and the lights outside were lovely. We ordered the Spinach & Artichoke dip for an appetizer, the seafood chowder, and two bowls of the french onion soup for a second course, and the 5th lady only wanted wings. The waitress brought a plate of warm bread (5 pieces) with a sundried tomato & olive oil dip. I had a sour stomach and had no plans on eating to begin with. I was going to ask for some crackers, but instead, asked her if she could bring some more bread and offered to pay for it. The waitress said it was free and not to worry about it. The other ladies absolutely LOVED the dip, and despite the total experience, fully recommend it if you actually go here. When the waitress finally came back to the table, the 2 ladies that ordered the soup told her they just could not eat it. The one lady described it as "horrible" (and this lady LOVES French onion soup). The waitress "snatched" up the soups as if we had offended her personally. The waitress did not apologize, did not ask if they wanted something else to eat, nothing. Just snatch and grab and was gone. Now, she had been kind of "gruff" since she first came to our table too take our drink order, but her demeanor had really tanked after the "soup incident". No one was particularly interested in an entree' at this point though that was the original intention for some. So we requested the bill from the host since we could not find our waitress again. When she brought it to us, both soups were still on the ticket which we brought to her attention immediately. We requested to speak to the manager (who I expected would have been out promptly after the soups were sent back to inquire what the problem was), to which a very defensive young man came out to talk to us. You would have thought he made the soup himself by the way he was defending it. He said it was made fresh that day and that he had "served 50 bowls today and no one else complained". He was just not going to validate our personal experience and we were basically going to have to demand that he not charge us for something that was not consumed, not even partially. He finally agreed to take them off of the bill, but did not leave to do so. He was asked to fix it so that everyone would know how much the entire tab was going to be, but he just said "you figure it out". So the ladies started gathering money together to pay, including a tip (no one blamed her for the soup). The ladies gave him $40 on a $52.85 tab (the soups were $6 each, and with tax would have been around $12.90) and then tossed $10 on the table for the waitress. We all were up and leaving when the waitress, the young "manager", and some woman (who I can only assume is the owner by other reviews I have read) came running out yelling that we had not paid our bill and could not leave. The older, angry woman came straight for me and started yelling at me. I told her that I did not know why she was yelling at me since I did not even order the soup. The other ladies TRIED to explain to her that they gave him enough money to cover the tab to which she angrily yelled at me about the soups and the fact that we had 13 pieces of bread (between 5 women) without an entree'. I defended myself by telling her, again, that I did not even order the soup and TRIED to explain to her that I offered to pay for the bread when I asked for it to which she yelled at me that we now had to pay $10 for the bread ($.77 a piece). She was so mean and angry that you would have thought we walked into her personal home and told her that the food she cooked was the worst we had ever put in our mouths. So I gave her $10 for the bread and told her that there was no way I could give her a good review after this kind of treatment, which she responded very angrily with "Oh I already expected that". Now as we were walking off, the young man who pretended to be the manager got snarky and continued to be verbally abusive with me about the soup and yes, a not so nice comment was made by me because again, I DID NOT EVEN ORDER THE SOUP! Considering the way we had been treated, I was quite tame. When we got to the car, one of the ladies realized she left her cell phone on the table and began to panic. She decided to walk back to the table and the rest of us would drive around to pick her up, prepared to call the police if necessary (yes, she was THAT mean and nasty to us). When we pulled back around, my friend jumped in and not only had her cell phone, but also the $10 we left on the table for the waitress. I guess we actually got a $2.85 discount for the 2 soups, and the bread was free after all. C'est la vie I suggest they take an anger management course. After 12 years in restaurants myself, including management and being married to a chef, I can say the service and treatment at Evenrood's was beyond the pale. read more

Wonderful food. Wine choices were diverse and tasted great after we chose. The Evenrood salad was almost a meal itself. Seafood chowder was really tasty, but the bacon in it was limp and lacked any flavor. The chef might make the chowder with ground bacon to impart the flavor, but wait until it is being served to add a handful for show. Next time we go, we won't take the benches along the windows. They are awful. The seat is too narrow, the back is too low and whatever padding is in them compresses and is very uncomfortable. However, a very good place to go and it still has some class compared to the chain restaurants. read more

My fiancee planned a surprise birthday party for me here. It turned out to be wonderful. Lisa the manager, I found out later, was very accommodating and helpful. She got us a last minute Birthday cake too. The restaurant used to be a bank. The vault is really cool. The food was delicious. To start with cocktails we had the coconut pearl which was light and refreshing, perfect for summer. The pan seared scallops were delicious and deceptively looked light, but were quite rich and filling. Our favorite was the lamb which was cooked just right, flavorful and very tender. This is a great place for a small party or even an intimate dinner. Will definitely come back again read more

My family and I were in town celebrating a graduation. We made a reservation for a group at 8:00 and were told we would be able to sit in the vault. We arrived right on time and they said it would just be a few more minutes. After waiting 20 minutes, we checked on the status of our reservation and were told that we would not be able to sit in the private room, as we had reserved, but they were able to seat us in the main part of the restaurant. This was no big deal, and we happily took the table that was available, although we were not seated until 8:30. After ordering one round of drinks (which were quality) we placed our dinner orders. They were out of two main dishes that people in our party ordered, and their list of sides had dwindled to one: french fries. The waiter informed us that every entree would also come with asparagus. When our food arrived (over one HOUR later) there was no asparagus, it had all been substituted with Brussels sprouts, without even informing anyone at our table. The waiter also neglected to refill our drinks or offer us more bread during the hour we waited for food. Overall, the quality of the food was poor and we were disappointed across the board - with their efficiency, service, food, and general mannerisms toward their customers. After reading some other negative reviews from a while ago, we were hoping that the status of the restaurant had changed, but it still needs some major work. read more

I ordered the seafood chowder and house salad and fish wrap, soup is really so so ,if u want something better u could try Hannaford's potato soup.then the point is coming ,the fish wrap,has NO flavor at all.i understand every restaurant has their own recipe ,it's normal that u found something not fit u ,the waitress sent it back the the kitchen .and dramatic scene coming ,the aggressive owner Lisa is very upset about me ,coming to point out that she found I have some issue before ,means I'm a issue girl in the last few times eating here ,seems like I have bothered her before ,when she brought a brand new wrap To me ,my husband told her it's not ok to speak with your customer like this ,she got totally upset with us .I don't want to fight ,I told her I'm sorry to make her trouble , but u know we r coming to enjoy our night ,NOT coming for her bully ,she is funny ,if u r the owner ,u will try your best to make the menu right make the flavor better , not to irritating your customers.I hope she could have the restaurant long time . read more

The atmosphere is great and the service was good. The meal unfortunately wasn't very good at all. I had the baked haddock and it was bland and too salty. My wife had the blacken haddock wrap which she did not enjoy either. I don't think for the money spent it was worth it so probably won't go back. Although there were a few missteps in the service and food prep, overall a great place to dine. Misstep #1: I ordered a Caesar salad and the salmon entree. The server returned a short time later saying there was no salmon left to put on my salad. I corrected him in that I wanted a salad then the entree but would have the rib eye medium rare. Eventually our food arrived and I never saw my salad. I didn't mention it because I wouldn't want it with my entree. Also, the beef was extremely rare, not medium. But, it was well aged and flavorful so rather than have it ruined by returning it to the grill, l enjoyed it in its current form. Had a very nice meal here tonight. Great decor, cool old bank branch converted into a restaurant. Had the seafood chowder, scallops,endive salad, chicken wings and creme brulee to cap it off. Start to finish all plates were well prepared and delivered quickly. Very good food in a clean and well designed dining room. Great concept typically a restaurant with a similar menu can get slightly stuffy in their attitude. Not the case here. Very solid all around. read more

Met some friends at Evenroods after work Friday. We got there around 5 and were one of the firsts in the restaurant but I was amazed by 530-6 the place was packed. Sat at a high top table. Really great energy, nice live music, great food and service. LOVED the bufallo chicken dip. Wings were awesome too. I don't tend to go downtown to eat often and that must change! read more

The staff completely ignored us. After being seated, my mother and I waited probably 15 without any of the staff even stopping to give us water. We saw one of the wait staff walk by with a pitcher full of water and she didn't even look at us! We saw plenty of staff walk by but none of them even glanced at our table. We kept looking around and trying to make eye contact, but couldn't catch anyone's attention. We waited 15 minutes with our menus down and ready to order food before we finally walked out. The manager spilled wine while pouring a $45 bottle, the waiter didn't understand that we wanted our apps, salads, and entrees to come out in courses, and as a result, we were informed that they were out of the prime rib 45 minutes after placing our order, because he "didn't want to overwhelm the kitchen with our order.".
