The Butcher and the Baker is in downtown Bangor and offers American style meals. I had the schnitzel which came with a delicious dill sauce. It was a very filling meal. The cocktails drinks were very good here and the bartender knew her mixology. The restaurant has a cozy but contemporary vibe. The staff were pleasant and I would return here.

Bro... really? I knew I was in the right place when the had something called "The Schnitzelnator". You can tell the chef is a craftsman who takes an incredible amount of pride in his food. Needless to say it was absolutely amazing and I would suggest it to anyone in the area. Last but certainly not least was dessert. I'm a meat and potatoes guy but I made an exception for their house made carrot cake. It's top 5 cake I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and go here.

What a great find in Bangor! Loved the cocktails and food! Excellent service and nice ambience.

The best restaurant I've been to in Bangor! Every dish we tried was amazing, and we went twice in one week. They also have a pretty large cocktail menu and the drinks were good. The service was also great, our server was the same both times and remembered us and our drink orders the second time. It's a pretty small place, so there was a short wait time.

This place is for REAL! We can't believe this is in Bangor, Maine! My wife and I are locals and came here on a whim. It. Is. Amazing! The kind of place that makes me wish I had two faces! First, the ambiance is awesome - small, cozy, but very classy. The service was excellent! To be honest, it was about 4:30 on a Saturday, so not a mad rush, but we were immediately seated and attended to. The food. The FOOD! We had the Chef's special spinach pasta with chicken, and Shrimp and Grits! The pasta is scratch made and oh so good, and the SHRIMP! Huge, with cajun seasoning, it was a complete success. We had two mocktails to complete the package. We will DEFINITELY be back. Next time we're getting the sausage board, and chicken and waffles. If you live in Bangor, you have to go here.

Had the drunken noodles -- awesome dish - just the right amount of spice. And chocolate canoli for desert! What could be better?

Great service and amazing food - drunken noodles... yum! Chocolate canolis for dessert!

Dinner last night with a large group of beautiful friends at The Butcher The Baker. It was my first time there and the menu was really intriguing, making it hard to make a decision. The service was outstanding, we were many, had separate checks, and special dietary restrictions, all of that was met with professionalism and a willingness to please. The dishes were beautiful and delicious. I had two appetizers and was so impressed with my choices. The foie gras and beef carpaccio, not seen in a lot of menus was served with some lovely pickled vegs and a fig jam. Tuna poke with avocado and cucumber was so fresh tasting with just the right hint of heat, highly recommend. I will be back soon. Thank you.

Korean fried chicken wings

This place was absolutely INCREDIBLE!! This was our first time visiting this restaurant and it was amazing. The service was top tier and our waiter was so nice and attentive. The atmosphere was very inviting and nicely decorated! Lastly the food was jaw dropping, we started with the Korean wings and first of all... they're HUGE. They are so delicious, perfect blend of spicy and sweet but extremely sticky so luckily they bring out wet wipes with them!! I got drunken noodles for my entree and they were amazing, by far one of the best entrees I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and loved those as well! We ended with the creme brulee, they switch out the flavor depending on the season and we got pumpkin spice and it was to die for. Overall this place was amazing and I wish we had come here sooner!! Highly highly recommend!!

Amazing meal! Everything from service to the food was excellent! The butcher and to a baker outdone themselves! I would add the bartender too! Delicious food, cocktails and ambience. Friendly and attentive staff, they all worked together

The Pork Belly with Gochujang is fantastic..

Gochujang Pork Belly is ridiculous! I could eat this every day... Every day until my arteries slammed shut and the inevitable heart failure from eating piles of delicious fat.

Good food and newer option for Bangor, a bit on the pricey side for Bangor - the pork chop was very good, however $33 for that entree

Lots of seating and quiet areas if you ask to be sat in your own area. Hostess was very friendly and sat me in a great spot. Waitress was friendly and helped me navigate the menu. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and specials. The food was great. Cooked as requested and the omelette was filled with a good amount of filling without being over filled. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Some places over cook the eggs and these were not!! The tables have salt & pepper shakers. They also have jellies, butter, ketchup, syrup and creamers. I like this feature so you're not always waiting to catch the waitress if you need one of those items. This is a great hidden gem in a truck stop. You should give a try if you're in the area!! Hope your experience is as good as mine!!!

Not sure if they were having an off-day today or they've been sliding downhill but today's experience was far from ok. Starting with the good. It was quite busy when we arrived around 7:30 pm and despite this the waitstaff were very friendly and were helping each other out. The server who brought our drinks even brought shorter "kids-size" straws for the children. Very thoughtful. Our primary server (Kallie B.) was covering several tables in our section and had signaled that she was coming to take our order when she accidentally spilled a drink at the next table. She was apologetic to that that group and moved quickly to clean it up but knew that we had been waiting a long while to order, so asked another server to come and take our order. Again, thoughtful. The food was simply not good today. We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children. Most had fries with our meals. They were all very undercooked - as if they were rushed. The bacon on my wife's club sandwich was undercooked. Several of us left large portions of our meals barely touched because they just didn't taste good. I had ordered steak tips. I tried to eat the first two and were so chewy that I had to put them in my napkin. I left the rest on my plate. This leads to an important recommendation. While the staff's teamwork and friendliness was great, the servers would benefit from some training in attention to signs that customers are having issues with their meal. While our server did ask at one point how everything was, she did so hastily and said, "ok? Good." without waiting for an actual response. She didn't seem to notice that I hadn't eaten my $21 steak tips meal - or if she had noticed, didn't bother to ask about it. It felt insincere. Likewise, a lack of inquiry for the barely touched french fries and portions of several meals left on plates. In a word, today was disappointing. I hope they'll do better.

The server was friendly and attentive, so though she forgot to bring a couple of small items we requested, it was easily fixed. This seems to be one of those basic American style restaurants: not with a broad or imaginative selection, nor one that I'll knock your socks off, but rather with basic food offerings of middling quality. For example, my cheeseburger and onion ring were fine, but not such that I would bring them up later when talking to a friend about restaurants in general. My wife ordered the chef salad, and it was generous, but it took up so much room on the oval plate that she risked pushing items onto the table with every bite. Bringing a second plate from the start would have been a good idea, but she fixed it by asking early for a box to bring some home, as she knew she wouldn't be able to finish it anyway. She was pleased that there was no extra charge for the packet of guacamole she requested. Sometimes it seems places up charge for every little thing. Speaking of prices, they seem elevated for what they offer, but when I thought about it, it felt high compared to what we were paying pre-inflation a year or two ago, not compared to other restaurants. So it is dependable enough so I would be willing to go back (if they are like smaller Dysarts branches they must have good pizza) but it will not be a destination restaurant for us.

I had the Black Bear Omelet - 3 eggs! Shaved steak, peppers, onions and provolone. Enough to take some home. She had the Traditional McRuth - home made bread, egg, sausage patty. Loved that we had the choice of home fries, tater tots OR beans for our side. Grabbing a few things from the bakery (fresh blueberry muffins and pie) before we hit the road.

I had the gnocchi with tofu, it was a generous portion with a nice presentation and the flavor came out beautifully once I got some salt on it. I really savored every bite of this meal. The side piece of bread was not served with any olive oil or vegan butter so that was a little disappointing. My partner had the vegan bean burger and he liked the flavor but it was very messy for him and he had a bit of trouble eating it neatly which made him not love his as much as I loved my plate.
