An Irish pub with great pub food in downtown Bangor what is not to like. Sprinkle in some good music and this place is one of the better options in town. Of course the standard beers flow. The star of the show are the sweet potato fries which are one of the better ones I have had anywhere. Service is friendly and wel

Upbeat Irish music, dark hardwood bar and friendly service; what else do you need? A proper Guinness, check. Tasty fish and chips, check. Corned beef and cabbage, I'll give that one two checks. A great overall experience, especially since Mondays are pretty quiet around here.

Had to snag a photo of their ceiling. What a cool design!

Two words: cottage pie. Do yourself a favor and get this masterpiece next time you swing through Bangor! It's light but also thick, with a nice tangy gravy that brings all the filling components together under a crispy cheese and potato crust. Additionally, the service was excellent during our visit, so even though their system was down at the time, the staff's hustle and kindness completely made up for that. As for the ambience, it's your standard Irish pub with traditional reels and jigs playing unobtrusively through the speakers, wood and earth tones all around, and vintage rugby keepsakes behind the bar. Definitely will return for a pint and that cottage pie when I'm next on the area.

The worst french onion soup I've ever had. It was in a "bread bowl". The bread bowl literally tasted like a toasted hot dog bun. There was no broth for this so called soup. It was basically a bunch of probably jarred onions thrown on a glorified hot bun with a side of toast with a slice of cheese. Also the Ruben was a total disappointment. Maybe I'd like it more if I was drunk.

How can you mess up corned beef being an Irish pub!!! Just dry. Cold in the middle. I opened up pieces of the cabbage and it was covered in dirt specks. The carrots were soggy and tasted like they were boiled in water. Food made me get the feeling that the chefs hate their job. Please season and try your food before you plate it and give it to customers. Also service... could be better.

Walked in about 30 minutes before end of food service (9pm) but was promptly served. It was trivia night (Wednesday) so it went between quiet as a library to a bit louder. A great crowd for trivia night. Loved the vibe. The Guinness was properly poured. The fish was very good. Not over fried. Would go back.

We have visited Paddy Murphy's several times, and even our pup loves the food there! The waitstaff is attentive and even brought a dish of ice water for the dog when we were there in the warmer months. The food is consistent, delicious and reasonably priced. The french fries are always a hit and well seasoned. Fish and chips are amazing and generously portioned. The french dip sandwich is not huge, and the meat is fall apart tender. We are also huge fans of the Quebec burger, perfectly cooked to order and delicious with the maple bacon. It's a pleasure to go there knowing you won't be disappointed.

Nice view from the outdoor patio.

We live about 30-mins outside of Bangor and come into town often to shop, eat and such. That said, we've rarely walked around the main "downtown," where the specialty shops, stores, bars and restaurants merge into an attractive setting, overall. Being plant-based can make for a bit of a struggle in this town, and Paddy Murphy's Irish Pub would not necessarily be a place we'd think would have some vegan options; but, it did! So, we hauled the carnivores to Paddy's! :D We arrived when the opened, and got us one of the outdoor tables, overlooking the plaza. We had a nice, young waitress who took care of us with drinks and food orders. It was a pleasant late-morning with the city still waking up. Unfortunately, as we waited, the peace was shattered by a troubled woman crying and yelling profanities right across the street. It made for an unenlightening experience, though no fault of Paddy's, of course. The police finally arrived to calm her down, as they appeared to know her. Still, though.... Anyway, there was a particular dish that we REALLY wanted to try; however, we were told they were out of it. Bloop!! So, I ended-up ordering one of their vegan burgers. (We were told it was "Uncut" plant-based meats, which we weren't familiar with.) It was good; chips were good; beer was good. (My recollection was that everyone thought their meals were good/very good.) Service, however, despite the nice gal, was noticeably absent. There was no coming around to see how things were going, how's the meals. (The table of guys next to us had a waitress that was all about service! Ours was considerably lackluster in comparison. Oh, well....) All this said, we probably will give Paddy Murphy's Irish Pub another shot in the near future, especially to try that dish that wasn't available. I'll definitely be updating thoughts at that time....

A tad bit disappointed... This looks like it could be a really fun, Irish Pub. The decor was a traditional Irish pub. The beer selection was good. The service was OK, but you could tell they were short staffed - the waiter was really nice but not attentive enough. The food Lacked the TLC needed in a place like this... we had their big pretzel, which was overcooked and lacked salt, so it was crunchy - not good - I had the patty melt with onion rings, which both were overcooked. Baby girl had a buger and fries, which the buger was over cooked, but the fries were perfect. The beer was delicious and cold. This place is worth a visit because it might have been an off day.

Went for lunch yesterday. Been wanting to try it for a while. Loved the atmosphere, church pew seating and a full bar. Started with a nice cold Guinness, a shot of Tilurmadue, the hubs had Lunch IPA (which was really good). Ordered Wings to share. Their Paddy's "buffalo" sauce was super unique. Kind of sauce you could put on an old leather shoe. Blue cheese tasted homemade. Chicken looked delicious and I believe smoked. Husband had the Celtic Warrior burger. He said it was awesome. Everything was in just the right portions and blended well. I had the fish in chips. The fish was super fresh and the beer batter was super crispy. My favorite fish dish since I moved to Maine 5 years ago. The French fries were crispy, and the salt tasted a bit like smoked salt. It is the little things that made a big difference. We were so impressed we took and order to go. Husband got the Irish stew (very tasty, and although the container was just normal soup sized, it was all meat). I got the patty melt and champ (gave my husband the potatoes). It was delicious even reheated. One recommendation, if you like your hamburgers rare, get medium. The char on my husband's medium cooked hamburger really added something special to the sandwich, where are my patty melt was missing that. Not a dig at the establishment because it was cook like requested, just a recommendation for those that like rare meat. Also, our server was super nice and really took care of us. Thanks. 10 of 10 stars, highly recommend for lunch or night out.

A favorite stop while I'm in Bangor. Cute Irish pub with an amazing vibe. They have a small bar and a a few tables. The food is always great for pub door. My favorite is their fried pickles. They have live music, trivia and lots of other events going on. A must stop!

We get together one a month to chat about old times and our retirement. We take turns choosing a different breakfast restaurant each time. After a few years we had tried most of the regular places in the area. I was looking for another centralized place when I drove by The Hilton Garden Hotel in Bangor, Maine. They have a breakfast buffet every morning from 6-10 AM. I was greeted promptly, seated and options explained. The buffet, which included the coffee, seemed just right. The serving line had all the usual offerings: scrambled eggs, French toast, pan cakes, sausage, bacon, home fries- not the shredded potatoes, etc., and a fruit bar. The best part was the 2 chefs who prepared to take your order for anything else. I got the omelets with bacon, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and cheese. The waitress was very pleasant and checked frequently for coffee refills or if anything else was needed. The omelets were outstanding, same with the fluffy pan cakes, soft French toast, especially the crispy bacon. I have been back 3 times since January of 2026. Great chefs, staff and food. We came back the following night for a REAL treat... First of all, Tony was our server. What an absolute sweetheart!! He had nothing but fantastic recommendations for us. He was definitely not your standard "waiter". He spoke to us like we were regulars, which we appreciated, considering we were from Massachusetts. We ordered three of his suggestions: wings, fish and chips and the spicy margarita. Outside of what was recommended we also got the beer cheese and GIANT soft pretzel, bangers and mash and the creme brûlée. First off- this was my first time trying beer cheese, so I was beyond excited. I hate pretzels, however. Guess what?? They were BOTH SOOO GOOD!! The pretzel was the size of my giant head and was so soft & salty. It really paired well with the creamy beer cheese. I'd come back just for this appetizer every time. The wings too, actually! I was a little hesitant because I read the word "dill" on the menu but they really tasted more like Buffalo wings with a note of dill at the very end. I think I might be in love.... On to the main event! The Smithwick's beer battered fish and chips... WOW. It was a little different than I'm used to (which was a great thing in this case). The batter was thick and crispy (I'm used to thinner) and the haddock was super moist. Very fresh! I order this meal wherever I go and this is definitely in my top 3 (out of probably 50 others). I was hoping I could switch out the chips for fries because, well, I've never had traditional chips before! I must say I was pleasantly impressed though! They were the BEST and completed the dish perfectly. My fiancé had the bangers and mashed. He said it was good and very traditional. I did not indulge, so I can't relay that in my review. Last, we ended the meal with a MUST try....the creme brûlée. LEAVE ROOM FOR THIS DESSERT! The top was a hard sugar coating while the rest was truly a creamy dream. I might have to stop back in JUST for this before I head back home! 5 stars. Definitely. 6 stars for service!!

The vibe is chill speakeasy/library; there's a comfy bar area with tables and then a warren of other little spaces where you can hang out as well, with books and games strewn about to peruse. I love that they have a small, curated menu, which makes it easy: Maine oysters (two kinds, both awesome) got me started with a martini (well OK two martinis; friendly bartender makes them *perfectly*), and then you can extend to dinner with a few rotating options. I got lucky because whoever is making this delicious food decided that bolognese and lasagna should have a baby and be served in a piping-hot dish with some bread and salad on the side, and who could be mad about that?! (NB get some red wine with it). And they feature the fabulous Maine martini (aka Allen's Coffee Brandy, to which I have been converted), so there's your perfect nightcap.
