My wife got a free $20 dollar food credit. Our waitress was great and friendly. If you ordered the BLAT. There is no real avocado as it is a spread. I asked my waitress the question and she said a lot of people ask it. She gave me a side of guacamole. We used our comps and ended up paying $5 dollars out of our pocket. First time at the Bangor Casino. Meeting family from away for dinner and they chose this location. We parked in the building parking lot where parking for the event down the street was also. The line to park went quickly. Parked and made our way inside. Each floor has the casino clearly marked. The floor was busy with people gambling and having fun. We got players cards but ran out of time to use them. Went to the 99 Hops house located near the rear of the casino but close to hotel accommodations. We met our party and the 5 of us were seated within 6 minutes. Menu is pretty short and to the point for a pub: starters, sandwiches, salads, and 4 entrees to choose from. Husband had the steak and I the fish tacos. Sides come with your meal and are listed in the menu. The salad I had was your generic house salad with no issues. Tacos were good. Fish excellent. We enjoyed our meal and will be sure to come back when at the casino again. We hear the menu doesn't change so we know what to expect. I had a great experience yesterday at 99 Hops House. I had been diverted on a flight from London to Newark NJ - to Bangor Maine due to some horrible storms in NJ. The airline sent most of the passengers to stay at the Hollywood hotel for the night. (Small army of stressed-out people!) We found ourselves having breakfast at 99 Hops (my wife, 2 year old child and myself ) . I have to say that the staff was excellent. Despite being overwhelmed by an army of hungry and tired passengers they were polite, very accommodating, and did a great job at managing expectations. We had a particularly great experience with Mel , a young woman who was pretty much on her own for most of the morning serving as waitress and bartender. She handled the situation very well and was so kind to us (especially my child who was a bit wound up!). She managed the influx of hungry passengers in a professional manner and kept a smile at all times! After such a long journey and the misfortune of being diverted away from our intended destination, the experience at 99 Hops really helped alleviate the stress. The food was also very good so that was icing on the cake! I wanted to recognize the entire staff's efforts to please everyone in such a tough situation and especially point out Mel's outstanding performance and positive attitude. Thanks! If you're in need of a break from the card sharks and blinding slots lights, head over to Hops House 99 for a bite to eat or a few of their 99 beer options! Located just outside of the casino floor, this is a great dining option for those staying at the casino (and if for whatever reason you brought the kids, they can join, too). There is a basic kids menu, appetizers, starters, soups and salads, and great sandwich and burger options. I opted for their original burger with a side Caesar. The burger was cooked exactly to my liking, and the Caesar was thoroughly dressed and full of smaller bites of lettuce, which allowed for more in the bowl. A definite bang for your buck. The small appetizer of wings wasn't anything pretty to look at and they give you a dish of dipping sauces that's way larger than necessary. I'd love to see that presentation improve, but again, good price point. The menu isn't large, but it has a lot of interesting items from grilled cheese to brisket sandwiches, which makes it stand out from a typical hotel bar/restaurant. I wouldn't seek this place out on the regular, but I would definitely eat here again. Baxter Brewing had a special going on that night for $3.99 beers, so I had the Hopothecary DIPA. Highly recommend. The service was extremely slow for the minimal amount of patrons sitting at tables. Granted, we had a trainee (with no one supervising her), but quite some time passed from when we sat down to when we saw her first, and then again thereafter all the way through the payment process. She was very nice and did not make any mistakes, so I'm sure this service aspect will change over time as she becomes more comfortable. Just be prepared to be patient. read more

I could see the fish on the fish tacos from across the room when the server came out with the food. Amazing. There were big beautiful pieces of fish that smothered the tortillas, salsa, and lettuce. The haddock was thick and cooked perfectly. The homemade salsa was very tasty. My wife had the Grilled Flat Iron Steak Sandwich. She ordered medium rare and received medium rare. Excellent sandwich. The second time I got a steak but can't remember my sides as the steak took the show! So perfectly made to order that everything else was well...I can't remember lol. I was surprised by how good this place turned out to be since the casino buffet is a high priced disgusting mess. The Cobb salad was huge and the pulled pork sandwich had spicy pickles that added a little kick. My spouse and I did not enjoy this restaurant. We were staying in a room upstairs hoping for the best. The clam chowder was the only thing we ordered that tasted good and was hot. We had wings that were too small to enjoy. The Rueben sandwich had a thousand island dressing that was terrible, I thought that I tasted mustard in the dressing, but not really sure. The Lobster roll was a little skimpy for $20 and it came with cold sweet potato fries. We had to ask another wait staff for a soda refill since ours was nowhere to be found. The meal left a lot to be desired. The wings were tiny and under cooked. The fish tacos had gigantic fried fillets of haddock that were bigger than the plate and couldn't be eaten as is. The loaded waffle fries were so sweet it felt like eating a dessert. We ordered marinara to dip the waffle fries in and what was brought to us was basically canned tomato soup swimming in olive oil. Simone and I were not planning on trying out the new Hops House 99 at Hollywood Slots Hotel and Casino but ended up winning a $25.00 dollar voucher so if its free then its for me ! We showed up at about 3pm for a late lunch and basically had the place all to ourselves so the service was unexpectedly good. Considering that its in a casino in Maine I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality but the food was actually pretty darn good. We started off with some cold beers (they have 99 different kinds to choose, hence the name). For food we choose the homemade potato chip appetizer served with Blue Cheese Dip and Sriracha Sauce. The dip was thick, rich and a little spicy but altogether delicious and each chip was perfectly crispy. It was very good. Simone went with Brisket Chili for her entree. It was loaded with shredded smokey brisket and had a great balance of heat and smokiness. She thought it was some of the best chili she has ever had and really enjoyed it. For my entree, I went with a Three Pork Sandwich with Mac and Cheese on the side. The sandwich was a twist on a classic Cuban Sandwich. It came loaded with pulled BBQ Pork, wickedly crispy Applewood Bacon, Back Label Ham, melted swiss, spicy pickles and fried onion straws on a buttery toasted brioche bulkie roll. The Sandwich was almost perfect, but for me the BBQ pork was a little sweet and i would have preferred a smokier sauce. The Mac and Cheese was the only letdown of the meal. It was a bit bland and I probably would not order it again. We finished of the meal with a wonderfully light and yet still unhealthy gingerbread cake drizzled with a pumpkin caramel sauce. It was simple and tasty. I will definitely consider the Hops House again when i'm in Bangor. read more

Checked out hops house 99 this past weekend for the first time. It is the newly renovated old celebrity grill at Hollywood Casino. It is basically the same restaurant as it was previously but now features 99 varieties of beer on draft and in bottles. First, the beer selection is great! As a craft beer drinker I am excited to have so many varieties in one place. They do a nice job of covering all the different styles as well as covering all the local breweries. I will say The beers are way overpriced! This will be a deterrent for coming back. Eight dollars for a beer is absurd when I can go down the street and get it for less. Something they may want to think about long-term. The menu is pretty similar to that of celebrity grill with the same items such as macaroni and cheese, burgers, and other pub fare. I tried the club sandwich and found it to be good. I was able to see some of the other items come out from the kitchen and they looked OK and what you would expect from a restaurant like this. Again, the menu items are pricey for the area and if I was comparing to the next-door option of Geaghans Pub, both for quality and pricing, I would opt to go there. I think they can do better with this restaurant and hope to see improvements along the way. read more

Stopped in for some food Saturday night after playing some slots. First ordered two drinks , a beer for me and a downeast cider for my wife. Waiter brought out mine which was easy mich ultra and something that was def not a cider. Told waiter that he must have made a mistake he proceeded to tell us we had a cider.....it was clearly a beer. He had a little attitude and was not going to correct it. I told him to take the beer we were not going to drink it. Overheard the bartender tell him he ordered the wrong # and it was not a cider. Back he comes with our cider and a laughing apology. We then ordered a nacho....it was awful....was supposed to have salsa on it ....but they must have forgot that too. Our waiter was more interested in socializing with co workers in hallway behind bar. We were gonna order some food but decided not too after awful nacho and beer/cider screw up. Now the bill comes and waiter is charging us for beer we sent back that was supposed to be a cider. Another laughing apology and he fixes the bill. Place needs some supervision. Was very disappointed with the food here. We ordered a flatbread, which is supposed to be a crisp thin crust. This came as a very, very thick bread. Even Subway's flatbread is half as thin! I will start by saying the restaurant was busy, due to an event at Cross Insurance arena. I will also say, given they KNEW there was a major event being held across the street, they should have had a lot more staff on to assist the (over)filled restaurant. The food: Spot on. You want a medium rare steak? You're getting exactly that. The staff: Friendly enough (though seem only friendly to get away from the table again, don't ask them to ACTUALLY get/do anything for you) if you can get them to show up at your table. The service: HORRIBLE. We saw our waitress twice the entire meal. Once when she took our drink and food order (we'd sat at the table long enough to decide both, probably should have been the writing on the wall). And then again when she dropped off the check. Apparently if I planned on having more than one drink with my dinner, I should have ordered it up front. Want a glass for your beer? Too bad. When a second person brought our appetizers over, we asked politely for glasses and our server so we could order another round. "Oh yes, I'm sorry, we'll take care of it." Nope. You won't. Because you didn't. The manager brings over our entrees, again we ask, "Um, we've asked twice now, could we get some glasses? Maybe also another round or water with our meal?" The manager, without missing a beat says, "Yeah, we're really busy what with the show letting out, I'll let her know." Seriously? I don't expect to be the center of attention but we sat there the better part of an hour through our app and meal and I saw our waitress TWICE. I realize I mentioned that above, but twice over the course of a 50+ minute dining experience is definitely lacking. Other staff we saw once to drop off apps or our meal. Service was absolutely minimal. Total number of times someone stopped by our table? 4 times. Once to order. Once to drop apps. Once to drop meals. Once to drop check. Nothing else. Normal dining experience dictates slightly more contact than that. The icing on the cake? "How is everything?" as the woman (claiming to be a waitress) asks as she's setting the bill down. What difference does it make? Meals over now! If you haven't had sufficient frustration for your day, go to Hops House on a busy night. . . the simplest things they overlook, like seeing an empty glass and not asking if you'd like a refill. Not being aware of your section at all, we sat for 20 minutes not touching our drinks expecting they'd be by to get us glasses for the drinks we ordered. Needing another napkin, and not being able to flag someone down for one. I realize some of these things don't sound like much, but dang. . . pile one on top of another and it lead to a remarkably lack luster dining experience. We went out last night to eat at hops hous 99 and got awesome service but the food was ehh... it was the servers and staff that made the place. We thought the food options lacked and were over priced for what we got. We explained this to the server, in Which they gave us a head up that the menu is changing with a few new items on the menu starting today Wednesday. They did warn us that the prices would be going up almost 30 percet a plate. We absolutely appreciate their honesty because they were not just looking out their pocket they seemed to actually care about ours as well. At this point we don't see any reason to continue eating at a place that missleads the promos and advertisements to get people in the door. Instead of going there we choose to go back to the other 50 places in bangor maine for beer and food at half the cost with food that is just as good if not better and some where that is not fixed on the "bottom line". There are plenty of great places in Bangor to eat and drink with far more drink selections than hops house will ever have (Nockturnom, Patty murphys, sea dog, and many many more including other corporate restraunts). The marketing team at the casino may be able to market the casino end of the biz but are going to kill the clientel that had built up since hops house has re opened a few weeks over a year ago. This is not the time to raise the prices 3 to 4 buck a plate when its the slow season for one and to drop it on people without warning. If anything people are going to get pissed off expecting to have their bill being the same as it usually is when they came in the last time. I urge you to check out hops house and check the prices be4 you order so that you are not caught off gaurd, that way you can make your own desision whether this marketing sceme is worth the extra 20 to 30 dollars out of you pockets inwhich the day be4 the prices were 30% cheaper. Me and my wife feel awful for the employees/servers that work there because they are the ones who this is really hurting. And we urged our server to get a part time job to fall back on. As someone who works in marketing I can only see this place slowly killing its own biz which in return is money out of the servers pockets. I thought that this is something that should be brought to the attention of the regular clientele and hopefully new clientele (which I don't see happeneing).
