I'm not sure that I have ever had faster or more friendly service in my life. My Tesla charger was blinking red and not charging my car; after resetting the circuit breaker and checking the connection several times, I called EVCHARGE4U. Paul answered my call late on a Sunday afternoon and was very friendly despite the fact that I had interrupted his weekend. He generously gave me some "tricks" to try to get the charger working again and when those didn't work, he said he'd come by in the morning. Before noon, he had checked out our setup, deemed the charger broken and called Eric in his office to bring a new charger over to our house to install. Eric was just as helpful and friendly as Paul (both were very kind to my daughter and to our dog as well!) and by 1pm, only 20 hours after my first phone call, I had a perfectly working charger again. Don't go through what I did in calling 7 electricians across the Bay Area. Just call Paul and know that you are likely getting the best service and prices in the region. Every electrician in this area has more important projects than installing your EV charger and will either not respond, give you outrageous quotes or just not call you back. We had EVCHARGE4U install a home charging station in our driveway for our new electric car about a year ago. They did a great job and also recommended which charger to buy. This weekend we needed to shut down the power to our house for some electrical work, but when we went to turn everything back on, the circuit breaker dedicated to the charger would not come back on. We contacted EVCHARGE4U first thing Monday morning and spoke with the owner. He sent out an employee, Brad, to take a look. Brad discovered the issue right away and after a trip to the hardware store for supplies, repaired the problem, and our electric charger's power was restored before midday! I just ordered my Tesla and I am beyond excited. But I am clueless about electrical engineering. This requires a brief aside as my father is an electrical engineer and I imagine he is incredibly disappointed that I don't know anything about transistors and such (there probably aren't any transistors involved, which doubly proves my point). Thankfully, I have a brother who did study transistors and such (or I think he did... I really have no idea what they are talking about). My father can be proud of him. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel bad at all. He says he is proud of me to and I assume, I mean one really must assume that one's father doesn't just SAY, "I'm proud of you son." He has to be proud of me, right? I mean, he wouldn't lie to my face... it's just not about anything involving electricity... but I digress. Thank you for the brief therapy session. So, its established that I haven't a clue. I contacted Tesla to ask who I should have install the home charging doohickey (yeah, that's what I call it) and they sent me 4 companies. EVCHARGE4U is in Berkeley, so I called AND emailed (the car is en route and I have no way to charge it yet, so gotta get moving, right?!!). Megan answered and she was a DREAM to work with. Took me step by step through their online proposal request system (which I didn't really need... I don't do transistors, but I can manage a webform pretty well - I am a cuspy GenXer after all and not a complete techno-buffoon - no, you may not ask my wife to verify that factoid). Megan was very helpful and said they would be in touch the next day - which they were. She called while I was on the other line. I saw the number - didn't recognize it - and let it go to voicemail. Then I got a text 30 seconds later - Paul is in the neighborhood and wants to visit the site. He can come now (soon) or tomorrow morning at 7a.m. So, while I was on hold on the other line, I texted her back that now would be great. She responded immediately saying - how about 15 minutes. Perfect... and I am still on hold with a bank trying to do a mobile deposit (which it appears I am not adept at just yet) and the bank is providing an AWEFUL service experience making this one with Megan and EVCHARGE4U look INCREDIBLE by comparison. 10 minutes later, I get another text from Megan. "Paul got sidetracked (or was it distracted - you'll know what I mean when you meet him), he is going to be another 10 minutes." I text back, "totally OK, I am here." Exactly (to the second) 10 minutes pass and I hear tires pull up (no engine, it's electric... I smile to myself at this). Paul (not a small man) climbs our of a tiny electric vehicle and he, like Megan, is incredible from the beginning. He checks out the panel, talks me out of about $3000 worth of additional work. Talks me out of a panel upgrade... says to think about it when I get a second electric vehicle (not going to happen soon). He basically talks me out of the"Ahhr, ahhr more power," bigger, faster, optimize mentality and brings me back to "this is enough" and "it will do nicely" style of thinking. I lapse into a brief meditative reverie while he runs some transistory amperage load calculations and then we chat for a bit about business and traffic and family visiting and good beer and he tells me he will get me a quote by tomorrow. Well, he says, "probably tomorrow, but maybe not... definitely by Monday." And it is just easy and helpful and sweet. Honestly, they are just good people. They treat people right. They are helpful and nice and open and honest. I don't even care what the price is. I'm hiring them to do it. Period. Full Stop. I really hope they don't read this before they send me the quote. We just bought a Tesla and were having trouble with the charger we used to use for our previous electric vehicle. I called EVCHARGE4U for troubleshooting help and it was just my luck that Paul happened to be driving though my area. He graciously stopped by and tested out the charger to figure out the problem was. He quickly figured out that unfortunately the Tesla didn't like our old charger and wasn't compatible. He went over our options for installing a Tesla compatible charger and quoted us a very reasonable price (I called around after to compare). We are lucky in that they just installed superchargers up the street from us, but will definitely use Paul if we decide to hire someone for our home. Paul has a cheerful personality and is reasonably priced. Quality of his work is average. Main issue is he doesn't finish what he starts and he can't keep his commitments. I've had him do work for me, not finish, promise to come back on a specific day then not show up and not even call to tell me he can't make it. I've have to call him and listen to his reasons: "my other job ran over but I'll be there tomorrow". Tomorrow rolls by and no Paul shows up. Again no contact from him. More calls to Paul and finally he tells me "I'm too busy and can't get there for a few weeks". So he goes from being a warm friendly guy to someone who doesn't care about you. Not worth the trouble...better to pay more for a contractor who keeps his commitments. read more

Before I hired Nijssen Electric to install our new ClipperCreek LCS-20 EV charging station, I read the installation instructions as well the advice of other homeowners. I provided them with detailed specifications. One of my requirements was that the wiring should support a 40 amp circuit in case we bought an EV that could use more juice in the future. Nijssen quoted 6-gauge copper wire - enough for 100 amps over the 35-foot circuit. I choose Nijssen because their bid met or exceeded all of my itemized requirements and promised to satisfy the Albany Building Inspector for a reasonable price. And Paul Nijssen is a big lovable bear of man with a good sense of humor. It was difficult to keep my game face on while interviewing him. The biggest challenge was to get the new circuit from the main panel through my home office ceiling to the garage so that the LCS-20 could be mounted outside. The best route required the conduit to exit the main panel from below, pass over a downspout above a door and pierce the stucco exactly at the inside edge of the ceiling joists. I imagined there would be some very unsightly conduit on the north wall of our house and that it would take at least a day to fabricate and install. Nijssen figured out a easier path and had the job done in a couple of hours. When an obstacle was encountered, Nijssen quickly found a workaround. The installation diagrams showed a junction box between the charger its circuit. We did not want the junction box mounted on the outside was of the house. But, mounting it inside meant that conduit had to pierce the wall. It looked tricky to me, but Nijssen made short work of that also by using some flex conduit and piercing the wall directly behind the junction box. Our Chevy Volt was charging on our new 240 volt circuit by the time he left the first day. But, there were a few odds and ends to finish. So, rather than make me worry if they were ever coming back, they deferred payment until they could finish. Classy. In short, we couldn't be happier with the way Nijssen treated us, responding to our needs and the workmanship that was performed. That is why I give them my highest recommendation. read more

Simply put: Paul is awesome. The power in my house went out this morning and I gave Nijssen Electric a call when I was at work. Paul told me that he could do the service call today and he was at my house a few hours later. When Paul arrived, it was him and an apprentice and they were both incredibly friendly, knowledgable, and polite. I explained what my roommates and I noticed and done in the morning like replacing a suspected faulty fuse among a couple other things.
