Pasta à la vodka (5/5): al dente pasta and flavorful tomato sauce with shrimp that was well cooked, nothing crazy but it tasted very homey. Also good portions. NY strip (5/5): perfectly cooked at a medium rare. Pickled peppers on top were so good to top off each steak bite with the sauce/chili oil. We wiped the plate clean. Came here for my birthday dinner and Ètra absolutely delivered -- 10/10, no notes. Tucked behind Café Telegrama in Melrose Hill, the room has this moody, mid-century glow that makes you feel like you've stepped into somewhere special the second you sit down. The food was unreal. We did the speck/mortadella/burrata and garlic bread to start, then the chicories, grilled prawns with 'nduja, and the ricotta meatballs -- every single starter was a highlight. The cavatelli alla genovese with wagyu beef shank and the spicy campanelle alla vodka were both phenomenal. For mains we split the pork country chop and the NY strip, with the potato puree and grilled Chinese broccoli on the side. Not a miss in the bunch. But the thing that really made the night was our server, Bennett. The man is a pro -- warm, attentive, genuinely knowledgeable, and made the whole table feel taken care of from start to finish. Etra is cute! Ambiance and setting are perfect, especially on a warm spring evening. My friend brought a bottle of wine ($40 corkage) and we decided to start with the meatballs. They were tasty, prepared well and came with a side of bread. We then ordered the spicy vodka and spaghetti al limon. Both were nice, but the spicy vodka was the winner! Their sticky toffee pudding was good and the portion was beyond what the two of us could finish. Service was great throughout our 2+ hour dinner and they encouraged us to stay and enjoy our bottle of wine. I look forward to coming back again and trying some more items! read more

Cute little Italian restaurant in Melrose Hill on Western, finally was able to get down here. Parking, there is valet on site but try to find street parking if you can and save some $$$. We were seated outside on the patio and our drink order was taken right away. After a quick glance at the menu, our food order was placed. It did take a while to get the dishes out for some reason, both appetizers and entrees, so that was a let down. We started with the tuna crudo and the meatballs. The crudo was very good, simple yet delicious. Bluefin tuna in a calabrese sauce, it just came together well. Very nice bites. The meatballs were also tasty with ricotta and sugo. Putting a little extra sauce on each bite just enhanced the flavor profile. Entrees, we went with the Campanelle Alla Vodka and the NY strip. The Campanelle had large chunks of tiger prawns and calabrian chili. Not very spicy but you get little pops of spice here and there to make it interesting. The Campanelle could have been a little more aldente, and it felt like something was missing to bring it all together, but it was decent overall. The NY strip has a vermouth cream and we ordered a side of potatoe puree to go along with it. The potatoes were perfect, can't ask for better. The NY strip was cooked perfectly, no complaints. Overall, another Italian restaurant serving up some quality food. Though the Campanelle felt like it was missing something, everything else was great. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we were pleasantly surprised. They had a great wine selection, great pasta, and great garlic bread. The tuna crudo was chefs kiss, and that salsa macha almost made me lick my plate clean. We only wish we ordered more since portions are tinyyy (be sure to order accordingly). Unfortunately, my group and I came close to last call so we weren't able to add to our order and I left a little hungry. But I will definitely come back to make up for it! Came here for dinner with my boyfriend after seeing Ètra in the Red Dining Book 2026, so yes, I walked in expecting pasta that would change my life. It's tucked behind Café Telegrama and the vibe is actually really nice dim, cozy, date night. I'd recommend valet. Service was the best part. Everyone was genuinely sweet and worked together like a real team, super smooth all night. You can tell they care. We ordered the chicories, spicy vodka pasta, roast chicken, branzino and the NY strip. And honestly... everything was good? Just not wow. The vodka pasta was kinda watery which confused me because pasta is apparently their thing. I kept taking bites like maybe this one will hit different. It did not. Chicken was chicken. Fish was... wet? Steak good. Nothing terrible, nothing that made us stop talking and rethink our lives. Overall I'd say... beautiful space, excellent service, and a really nice night. Food was delicious but with the difficult parking situation in the neighborhood (after 3 laps around we had to just do valet to make our reservation time) and awkward service for us, I unfortunately likely won't be back. The interior was cute but small and very chilly as they keep the door open. It's a bit of a tight space but has a nice vibes. We got the speck, mortadella, and burrata to start then shared the spicy campanelle alla vodka and roast chicken. Our starter was decent but nothing outstanding. The entrees however were super flavorful and surprisingly generous - we only wish they came out closer in time. By the time the chicken came out our pasta was unfortunately already cold so we couldn't enjoy them together. Service wasn't bad - just not very welcoming or warm. Before even getting to the restaurant, I tried calling to learn more about their valet situation but was placed on hold for over 5 minutes so ended up hanging up when we pulled in to the lot and walked up to the host chatting with a coworker. Not sure if that's why I was placed on hold for so long but it definitely didn't seem busy at the time we arrived. We also felt rushed to order as soon as we sat down and our server just made us both feel a bit uncomfortable/awkward. Overall, I appreciated my friend bringing me here for my birthday celebration but we both likely won't come back unless someone else wants to visit. LA needed a restaurant like this. I almost feel like I'm transported to New York every time I'm here. I haven't been this happy with a restaurant on the east side since Mh Zh. This restaurant checks all the boxes for me, where ambience, service, and the food exceed my expectations. There's something that this spot has that none of my favorite restaurants in LA has, and it's a layer of... Intimacy. The staff really takes pride in what they do and they're so nice. I would give Etra 4.5 stars but because this actually genuinely exceeded my expectations, I'm bumping them up to 5. My friend and I decided to try a red dining book restaurant after going to the imax at Universal, and I'm so glad we picked Etra! I never would have gone here without the red dining book. The ambience is great - great lamps, dimmer lighting (so I couldn't get any pictures, none of them were turning out well in the dim light) it's not too large of a restaurant, but we didn't feel cramped even at our smaller table. Loved the service!! Our waiter last night is one of our favorite waiters ever. We started with the tuna Crudo and omg we did not read the description at all and were not expecting the salsa macha. But we loved it! Shoutout to our waiter who suggested getting a side of bread to sop up the sauce because it was delectable. The fish was so fresh and light. 9/10 We got the vodka prawns Campanella and we also loved this dish. My only suggestion is I felt like there could have been more prawns, they're already cut up in the sauce. When I would get a bite of a prawn, they were cooked perfectly, which most places overcook prawns in pasta so I was so impressed with the cook. I just wish there were more. 8/10 (for the record, my friend LOVED this dish more than me and would give it a 10) Ok this branzino. Y'all. I have had a lot of branzino in LA. The burrata was smooth and piped on sourdough toast with lemon on top- it's one of the best burrata on toast that I've ever had. This restaurant is tucked in the heart of LA downtown; street parking or valet is available. Their pasta selection are limited, but they also offer other dishes and appetizers to go along with the pasta dishes. We ordered the Spicy Campanelle Alla Vodka and their Spaghetti Al Limone. We also got their garlic bread to start. The portions of their pasta are on the smaller side; howerver, it's how an authentic Italian restaurant serves their pasta. It's not often that I don't enjoy the entirety of my dining experience but this was sadly one of those times. We came on a weekday at 530, the start of their evening dining hours. It slowly started to fill up with a bunch of tables bringing in their own bottles of wine. This was my first red flag. The wine list might look extensive on first glance but there are only 3 options of wine by the glass for red and white and the variety between them was dismal. I sampled a couple and they all tasted like $10 bottle wine being served for $18 a glass. It's seems like a cute tiny little spot off Western but the interior wasn't that inviting. The red and orange hues are a bit bunch and they keep the front door open, so it's freezing the entire time. The service also left a lot to be desired. I truly could not tell if our server was trying to be cool and laid back or simply didn't care as most of our questions were met with a blank face and one worded answers. We asked that one meal be coursed out with the meat and cheese accompanying the garlic bread, then the tuna crudo, followed by our entrees. E received the speck and burrata which was very disappointing. You could tell by the way the meat was cut that it not cut fresh in house, but looked more like what you would receive from a premade charcuterie board at Ralph's. Next we received the tuna crudo which could have been farther from what we were expecting. The salsa macha calabrese was so overpowering and not at all complimentary to the tuna, that I was scraping it off. After that we finally received our garlic bread, would I would have preferred to eat with the meat and cheese, as ordered. The bread itself was fine. They melt cheese on top so it reminded me more of an item you'd get for kids that would satisfy them. For our entrees we ordered the spicy vodka and the roast chicken polenta. At one point we had to flag someone down as it had been an hour and 15 minutes since we sat down and ordered and had not received our entrees. It was pretty busy in the kitchen as they had a photographer in their snapping pictures of everything which felt like it slowed down service. When our meals were brought out they offered a free side of potato puree to apologize for the wait. The spicy vodka with tiger prawn was just ok. There was barely any spice and the shrimp were sad little clumps tossed in. The roast chicken was a surprisingly large portion and probably the best thing we ordered. The mushrooms were sparse and it would have been more suited accomplices with the potato puree than the polenta. I love trying new places but this will be a new place and I will never recommend or return to. read more

Unfortunately, the food let me feeling whelmed. To start, we had the meatballs and garlic bread, which were pretty boring and dare I say forgettable. I did like the Lambrusco I ordered. For an entree, i I got the famous spicy Campanella alla vodka with tiger prawns. It was decent and the texture of the noodles was solid, but it was just shy of bland. The prawns were the best part because they added a punch of flavor and missing depth. I will say that my friend loved her branzino though. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding, which I honestly found to be too grainy and overpowered by the mound of ice cream on top. Celebrated a friends birthday here and can't wait to return! I'm so glad I finally checked this place out! I've walked by it a million times since I know the restaurant next door, but you know how it goes. There were eight of us doing the whole shared plates thing, which was such a vibe. I was sticking to pescatarian that night and the vegetarian options were pretty great. The branzino came out whole with the head still on and was so fresh. Everything had this citrusy thing going on that could've easily been too sour, but they totally nailed the balance. Portions were solid for sharing too. They were playing Jay-Z when we got there, then switched it up to some alternative music as the night went on. Price wise, it's what you'd expect for a nice date night spot. Totally reasonable for the quality and vibe. We found street parking but they do have valet for $15 if you don't want to deal with that. Oh.. my God!!! This place has been the best restaurant I've been to my entire life. Decided to go on a solo date Sunday night and Etra did not disappoint. From the amazing service, delectable food choices & beautiful interior design, what's not to love?? I tried the meatballs, scampi & spicy vodka pasta. Everything was 10/10!! Warm, seasoned, so tasty & presented so beautifully!!! My waiter even noticed my cup of ice water now turned to lukewarm water and brought me another fresh glass without me having to ask! They even wiped down the table and took whatever crumbs into their hand which I found kind and interesting. I called on a Sunday night, just to try and they were able to squeeze us in without a reservation. Valet parking is available, but we found a meter on the street nearby. Service was excellent, our waitress was very attentive and helpful with any questions about the menu. Food was good. The spicy vodka pasta tasted more tomato based than cream based. I really wished they had a cheesy-cream based pasta on the menu. I definitely want to come back to try the pesto. The steak was delicious -- perfectly cooked and the garlic confit was amazing. Look, this place IS super cute and fun and trendy and everyone eating and working here is hot and cool. But also, for $300 the food needs to be served in a timely fashion, needs to be hot and the portions need to make sense. The salad was, no exaggeration, approximately 10 pieces of red leaf little gem lettuce, with 1/4-1/2 a pear, and 6 hazelnuts for $18 or $22 if I recall. It was absolutely delicious but the value and portion was poor. The mortadella/speck plate again was very tasty but the cracker it came with made no sense in terms of size related to the amount of cheese/meat. Theoretically delicious but like practicality-wise didn't make sense. Pasta was undercooked (still totally opaque white and crunchy in the middle) not al dente and took over 30 minutes to drop after we finished our mini salad. We had to ask it to be recooked. Chicken and polenta was *fine* but the polenta was room temp and the chicken was not very hot. If the dish was sitting there getting cold why didn't they just run it earlier? Our server was super nice and acccommodating but I just think that as a business it's your responsibility to consider that your execution better be flawless for $150/person, ya know? You owe that to the people choosing to spend their money with you. I hope this review is constructive, I don't mean to embarrass or deride anyone. Ètra strikes a perfect balance between great food, ambience, and service. I've added this place to my rotation as a solid spot for catching up with friends over a drink or a date night. I had the meatballs and spicy campanelle alla vodka (a new addition to the menu). The meatballs were so tender and are served with slices of toasted rustic bread to soak up the marinara sauce. The spicy vodka campanelle with tiger prawns was amazing and outside the box. Highly recommended if you are like me and have tried nearly every spicy vodka pasta that this city has to offer. My only gripe was that the Ghia spritz ($14) I ordered was served in a can to be poured into a wine glass and not made fresh at the bar. To be fair, there is more of an emphasis on wine vs. cocktails on the menu but still. Other than that, the restaurant is incredibly cozy, romantic, and lively for their evening hours. I would love to come back to this restaurant! I've been to their, sister restaurant, the café in the front and had a great experience. Luckily for me, I got to return to enjoy this pasta heaven for a friend's birthday dinner. The lemon pasta was a knockout, and my absolute favorite. We also tried the rigatoni. Their take on a Caesar salad was good, but it's a bit bitter so you have to be prepared for that. The table also enjoyed the meatballs, they come with four meatballs, on the smaller side. The sauce was delicious. We also had the rigatoni which was very nice, and topped with toasted breadcrumbs. There were small bites of shrimp in the rigatoni, which made for a nice little surprise. The Bronzino was delicious, a smaller fillet, head on. Ambience was nice, switching from East Coast hip-hop to jazzy beats. Definitely a great opportunity for a girls night out or date night. The restaurant is not very big, so it was more on the quiet side. read more

We went back to Ètra last week a year after our first visit, and I left wondering what had taken us so long. It's an outstanding restaurant with top tier cooking, an interesting, reasonably priced wine list, and a vibrant, welcoming, neighborhood feel. One thing to note is that it is tiny, and some of the two-tops are placed unconscionably close together. This kind of works when service is in full swing, but we went on the early end and got seated right next to another party when the rest of the dining room had yet to fill up. It was so awkward we asked to move to the bar, where we had a lovely, relaxing dinner with a view into the kitchen. I think we'll request bar seating from now on. I liked our cozy little perch. Service was great. Our waiter was young and friendly. We shared a bottle of Matassa Tommy Ferriol 2023, a jammy blend of syrah and muscat à petits grains, at his recommendation. It was the kind of wine I like to get at a wine bar, a quality bottle I'd never know to try on my own. The food was terrific. The menu had changed over since our last visit, and while it would've been nice to revisit a couple of dishes, I appreciated the novelty and loved every single thing we ordered. The ora king salmon crudo was fresh and silky, served with Meyer lemon, capers, and shallot. The burrata was served as a luxurious spread on a tall slice of Jyan Isaac sourdough, topped with a generous shaving of bright yellow bottarga. The L.A. restaurant scene feels awash in pasta with vodka sauce, but Ètra's spicy campanelle alla vodka might be my favorite of them all. Unbelievably delicious, perfect curls of pasta with succulent morsels of tiger prawn and the heat of Calabrian chili, finished with bread crumbs for a little crunch. The pork country chop was hearty and beautifully cooked, topped with rhubarb and fennel, which went very well with the big hunk of meat. I also enjoyed a side of maitake mushrooms with salsa verde, charred tender and crispy. For dessert, we had panna cotta with poached rhubarb. It was spectacular, lush and creamy, the rhubarb soft, tart, and sweet. A wonderful end to a wonderful dinner. We live really close to Ètra and plan to post up at the bar again soon. I'm not sure if I'd be happy or disappointed to see changes on the menu. I like variety, but I'd order that exact campanelle a hundred times. read more

4.5/5 - Wow. I just got back from Rome (ok maybe about 3 weeks later) but this pasta legitimately transported me back to Italy! The pasta is maybe not as al dente as the Romans but all the flavors/sauces were on point! Keep in mind with this menu you don't get a ton of meat in the pastas so if you want more protein definitely get an entree dish - TUNA TARTARE (4/5) Tasty. I really liked the original scampi and it was so crunchy and flavorful. It was also bigger in portion. The new scampi is still good but just not as good as the original one in my personal opinion Meatballs: Recommend it! First of all, this place is very hard to see from the street. Follow Google maps and it will lead you to the valet, which is $12. We weren't able to see any signage for the restaurant other than the one on the valet stand. If you're OK with parking in the area, you can probably find street parking depending on the time you go. We had reservations and arrived on time. We still had to wait about 15 minutes for them to set up our table. Once inside, it's a lot smaller than we thought. The ambience is nice and casual. Servers were nice and efficient. It was very warm inside- which was disappointing as it was so hot & humid outside and I was expecting a nice cool place to dine. We had a bottle of white wine and because it was so warm in the restaurant, we asked them to keep the bottle on ice behind the bar (there was no room next to our table). - Meatballs- The server did recommend the meatballs but I thought it lacked flavor and tasted a bit watered down. - Chicories- I enjoyed this. There was lots of cheese on it and was lightly sauced. - Ricotta Gnudi- was fine - Dorade (fish) - was fine Overall our experience was OK.
