Came here for a work lunch and the name was deceiving. Really authentic Italian experience once you get there. Love the atmosphere. I got the squid ink rissotto because I was being brave and I am glad I did. It is frightening to look at (like forbidden rice), but tastes amazing. Everything my co-workers ordered looked great as well. The burratta appetizer also smacked. Go check it out!
I LOVE their Bianchi & Neri, seriously the best pasta dish they offer. I am a big fan of thin spaghetti, the black noodles are because of squid ink. It is tossed with shrimp, mushrooms, and roasted pancetta, all in a rich creamy bisque. Our party of 5 all ordered this and we never regret it (about $25 per plate). We also ordered a seasonal dish called Paccheri Nero Di Polpo featuring squid ink paccheri pasta cut to resemble calamari and served with cooked octopus ragù. They serve free bread as you wait and you can help yourself to olive oil, vinegar, and/or their chili oil. Can't go wrong with an order of calamari. Their meat balls were tasty and more sausage forward.
Oh lord, food is amazing here chef's kiss The pasta.. the drinks.. wonderful experience, server recommended me one of their fav dish and it didn't disappoint at all, full of flavor, pasta cooked very well, it don't look like much but it definitely was a lot! Outside patio was very chill, friendly area, this hit the spot for Italian craving, the bone marrow with their bread.. bomb, would recommend and come back to this spot!
I've heard great things about Maccheroni Republic and finally stopped by for DineLa. Small indoor space, but the outdoor patio is pretty spacious. We came during the heat wave so we didn't eat outside. Other than that, the service is superb and the food is absolutely amazing. We ordered gnocchi and risotto, so I'll have to come back for the pasta. The panna cotta was awful, but everything else was really good!
Maccheroni Republic - Life is full of pasta-bilities! So if you know anything about me, you know that I love pasta more than just about anything. While I can only officially claim about 12% Italian heritage, I'm 100% down for Italian food, especially homemade pasta, any day of the week. I'm spending this week in Little Tokyo for a conference, and while Japanese food is also absolutely my jam, when Maccheroni Republic slid into my Yelp feed, I knew that I had to hoof it over there immediately after we broke for the day. I saw the front of the building, and my heart sank because it looked closed, but then I noted the sign that indicated that the entrance is on the right side of the building through the courtyard. Thank goodness! I strutted through the courtyard, and observed about 15 people waiting for tables. Unbothered, I went up to the host stand and chatted with the stylish maitre'd - Dino - who indicated that he could have a table for me in 7-10 minutes. I proceeded to wait and I watched how he deftly sat the other waiting parties in order without difficulty or notes. To the untrained eye, it might have looked a little chaotic, but Dino absolutely knew what he was doing. About 15 minutes later, Dino sat me at a corner deuce in the inside dining room where I had a nice view of everything. Angel efficiently took my order and did a very good job of overseeing my table as well as about nine others. The dining room is so cute and homey, and the patio is a welcome respite from the bustle and business of downtown. Since I was "da sola" or on my own, I just tried the shrimp cakes and I ordered the Rigatoni all Norma which is one of of my go to pasta dishes since I don't eat much meat. Incidentally, this dish is named after Norma, the famous 19th-century opera composed by Catanese native Vincenzo Bellini. According to legend, a famous Sicilian playwright, Nino Martoglio, tried the pasta and was so overwhelmed by its perfection that he exclaimed, "Chista è 'na vera Norma!" ("This is a true Norma!"), comparing the culinary masterpiece to the musical one. So says Wikipedia anyway. The shrimp cakes were delivered quickly by a sweet food runner who kindly checked on me periodically during my dinner. The four shrimp cakes were accompanied by sauteed onions which paired really nicely with the crispy cakes that were brightened with a spritz from the fresh lemon wedge. She also brought a basket with four slices of Italian bread which I enjoyed with the EVOO and Balsamic that were on the table. My Watermelon Ciao was also so good. It was sweetly tart and such a nice treat on a Monday! Not long after I polished off the shrimp cakes, the rigatoni was delivered and dusted with a generous layer of parmigiana. The little fresh mozzarella pearls glistened on the top of the pasta and slowly melted and oozed into the sauce as I stirred it up. Yum! The rigatoni were al dente and delicious, and they were perfectly sauced. Of course, the eggplant was perfectly cooked as well, I only wish there had been a few more pieces of it - although by the time I ate the last noodle, I was so full! Alas, I had no room for dessert, but I intend to bring some of my conference colleagues back for a meal before the end of the week because it was THAT GOOD. I also loved that this place is NOT pretentious at all. There were all sorts of folks enjoying their food here from medical professionals in scrubs to college kids in shorts and t-shirts, and I was also very casually attired, but I was treated well and welcomed with graciousness and delicious food! Everything was super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The noodles were al dente and had a good portion of toppings. They have chili oil at the table which was super flavorful and decently spicy. Server was super nice
A real gem in DTLA. What really drew me to this trattoria is the pasta made fresh daily and the use of organic ingredients. The ambiance inside is great or opt for Al fresco and really escape the city for a few minutes while you enjoy amazing dishes. I ordered the Bianchi & Neri (Signature Dish) which co Es served with organic high mountain & amber durum black and white spaghetti, shrimp, wild mushroom, roasted pancetta, all tossed in a creamy bisque. I also ordered the Agnolotti Di Ossobuco served with a grain blend of organic amber durum & volcanic high mountain handmade agnolotti filled with ossobuco, charred marrow, vegetable salsa verde, drizzled with balsamic reduction, IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta, which means Protected Geographical Indication). The restaurant is very nice and the staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes and the service is tops but the food is superb must try! Oh and for an appetizer I got the Burratina which is a Burrata cheese, basil pesto, roasted heirloom tomatoes, ciabatta toast with extra virgin olive oil so good! For dessert I got the olive cake WOW!
First time at this restaurant. The staff was really welcoming and attentive which really makes a difference when stopping to enjoy good company and food in downtown. We went fairly early in the afternoon , to enjoy Lunch while visiting my aunt. They brought out fresh bread and it was really good, the balsamic vinegar had an amazing flavor . Forgot to snap photos of the appetizers , it's was Brushetta and The bone marrow, both were excellent Every dish came out and was sooo good , a nice portion and every dish was very well balanced and exceeded our expectations. The shrimp tasted very fresh and was perfectly plump and not overcooked. The Ragu with wild board was excellent and ragu was rich and hearty. Lasagna was very rich and decadent and we enjoyed every bite. Gnocchi con carne was delicious as well For dessert we had affogato , espresso was very rich and velvety , with the perfect sweetness. Flourless chocolate cake was amazing . We look forward coming back, the patio was really cute and offered shade and made us feel like we were transported to much calmer atmosphere (love downtown la though ) Above all else , every single staff member we encountered made the experience amazing , we will definitely be back.
Ambiance - although this place has lots of seating, it has a cozy, neighborhood vibe. Service - excellent. From the friendly greeter/hostess to the Italian sommelier who checked in on us and joked with us often, they really made us feel we've been customers for a long time. This is only our second time here. Our friends' last time of eating her was over 10 years ago. This is simply because we all live far from this resto. Our friends lived in the valley and we live in OC. Food - very authentic Italian food. We ordered a bottle of wine, clam linguine, shrimp cake (for appetizer), Frutti de Mare, rigatoni Norma, pappardelle Alfredo, cioppino, tiramisu and flan.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Maccheroni Republic!!! I've been going to this place since 5 years ago and it's still one of my absolute favorite places in LA. So worth going to downtown for. The service is impeccable and very friendly to you. They're really knowledgeable about their dishes too. The place just reeks of experience and professionalism. And I can't even start with the dishes. From the vongole down to the tiramisu, everything is delectable and perfect. The only downside is they raised their prices over the years I loved it when I used to get pasta for less than 20 bucks a few years ago. And the wait tends to be terrible so I would try to go earlier (opening) next time or just hop to a bar nearby while on the waitlist. Overall, I will forever love this place (unless they change the chef for worse) and so worth going every time.

Theres a Public parking garage right there which they validate to help with a discount... very convenient. Ok Everything was delicious!!!! Had calamari, Cesar salad, eggplant parmigiana, garlic bread, (they give bread too as well). Had lasagna, seafood pasta, bianchi, all very good! We had affogato, tiramisu, ricotta cheesecake! Yummmmy! Blood orange sodas.. 10 outta 10! Highly recommended!

I've been so busy since we came back from LA that I'm just now getting around to leaving a review... Our annual visit to Maccheroni Republic. We always seem to end up ordering the same dishes and we've never been disappointed. Everything tasted great as usual. They also had the Italian Custard on the dessert menu this time. We had tried it once before and absolutely loved it, especially the caramel sauce that comes with it. We practically had to fight over the caramel sauce. LOL. It's that good! If you ever see it on the dessert menu, I highly recommend trying it. We enjoyed everything but the overall atmosphere felt a little different this time. We actually wondered if something had changed with the management or the restaurant itself. We used to have to wait quite a while for a table but this time we went on a Friday night and there was no line at all. The crowd also seemed very different from what we remembered. We also felt a little rushed by our server which was disappointing. One of the things we always liked about Maccheroni Republic was the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere and we had never felt rushed during our previous visits. I can't quite put my finger on it but something just felt different this time. Still, the food was great and overall, we had a good time. read more
I came here last year for my birthday as well! I love how their delicious pastas are made fresh daily! I already knew that I wanted! I knew I wanted the bone marrow (again! We also ordered frtto misti (fried calamari and fried shrimp) as an additional appetizer which was deliciously light and crunchy! I've never had osso bucco before, so l presumably I thought they'd be using veal shank, but it was beef shank. The flavors tasted are of those that have been simmering cohesively on a low flame for several hours! It was what I'd expect in an Italian stew! Accompanied by a side of perfectly orchestrated I also had their squid ink risotto. Very distinctive flavor mixed within this squid ink plate. Bay scallops mixed within the squid ink and risotto. I just wish it was a little softer. I thought it could've used perhaps 5 additional minutes! Topped off with 2 perfectly cooked diver scallops! To end my birthday meal, I had a frozen creamy treat of affogato! Yay!! Happy 55 to me! I'm blessed to have enjoyed another delicious birthday dinner at Maccheroni Republic read more

Maccheroni truly is one of the best when it comes to pasta. 1. Bianchi & Neri (5/5): fresh shrimp, al dente pasta, and classic cream 2. Insalata di Arugula (5/5): you can't go wrong with this classic salad, everything was flavored beautifully and extremely fresh 3. Ravioli di Zucca (4.5/5): their rich truffle Parmesan cream sauce was simply amazing, the -.5 was purely bc I personally felt the pumpkin filling's sweetness clashed slightly with the savory sauce 4. Located directly across from the bustling Grand Central Market, this spot remains a beacon for those who want high-quality, handmade pasta without the stuffy white-tablecloth pretense. I recently returned here for a work celebration lunch with my team after several years away. In a city where restaurants often lose their soul (or their flavor) after a few years, I was thrilled to find that everything was exactly as delicious as I remembered. Parking: There is metered street parking or you can save yourself the circling and just pull into one of the nearby paid lots. Check in/ Resy: this restaurant, unfortunately, does not do reservations which I highly recommend implementing one. If there is one area for improvement, it's the arrival experience. The check-in process was a bit chaotic, with several groups hovering around the entrance in a disorganized fashion. A formal sign-in sheet or a digital waitlist system would go a long way in managing the crowds. Food: Appetizers: We ordered a spread for the table, and every single one was scrumptious. They are light enough to whet the appetite but flavorful enough to stand on their own. The Seafood Pasta: My personal choice and a total knockout. The seafood was fresh, and the pasta had that perfect, firm bite that only comes from handmade dough. Value: It remains firmly in the mid-price range, making it accessible for a casual dinner or a slightly elevated team lunch. Overall: There is something to be said for a restaurant that survived the COVID era and came out the other side still thriving. Maccheroni Republic isn't just a place to eat; it's a DTLA staple. Maccheroni Republic is a fantastic downtown escape, especially if you pop in around noon for lunch when it's not too busy and seating is incredibly easy to get. The cute patio seating area offers a wonderfully relaxed vibe away from the city hustle. I ordered the Alla Norma, and it was a solid 4-star dish--a rich, authentic flavor that will definitely bring me back. read more
Apparently, I've been coming here longer than I remember (thanks Yelp for tracking). . Still an amazing meal and experience. Last night we popped in with some boisterous friends that came in from out of town. Nico was a dear and was friendly, engaging, and helped my friends decide on what they wanted. The Mozzarella Fritta and the Bruschetta are still very strong openers, because of course cheeeeeeese! The bruschetta is a bright-on-the-tastebud appetizer and I would not have felt any hint of guilt if I ate the whole plate by myself. I don't recall if I've had the Tortelloni Burro E Salvia because I have a soft spot for butter and sage, but it's still a stellar plate. The ratio between pasta and filling was perfect. We rounded out the meal sharing a bottle of the red blend wine and shared 4 desserts between all of us. A splendid meal and I'm so happy that the quality is still top notch over the years. read more

Thinking this is 3rd or 4th visit. Seated immediately, party of one. Outside was comfortable. Ordered glass of vino and lasagna. Affordable and delicious. Sorry, terrible photo because I was hungry. Ordered tiramisu too. Better photo here. Really enjoy the venue when in DTLA on business. read more
It has been 10 years since we were last here. The food is still outstanding. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and we were able to get in right away. The restaurant was full, but we timed it just right The food was great, starting with the Friti Misti. We then had the Caesar salad. Also good. For our mains, I had the Cacio Parpadelle with Chicken, and my wife had the Bianchi and Neri Pasta (Black and White pasta). We really enjoyed the food. Delicious pasta and a slight Italian piazza vibe makes for a great experience. We were seated outdoor on the covered patio with heaters and greenery separating us from the public. The wait staff was attentive and well-mannered. My table ordered drinks that all looked great! The menu was extensive and the online QR code was super helpful with photos of the dishes. The table came with fresh bread and olive oil and balsamic for dipping. I ordered the special truffle gnocchi and it was so flavorful and rich. A friend ordered the pesto pasta and it truly looked like a mountain. I was pretty jealous of her portion size. Overall, I think the price is steep, but it is a nice restaurant in Los Angeles. The atmosphere contributes to the higher price tag. read more

This has been in my list of restaurants to visit for a while and I'm so glad to have finally tried it! As a pasta lover, I was super pleased. Went for a birthday and staff was so nice to bring out a birthday tiramisu for the homie. Definitely enjoyed the free bread; helped with the wait. Tried the Agnolotti and the Pom' Amore and they were amazing!! Definitely would recommend. Super cute space too. Perfect for date nights! read more
I recently visited this beautiful, cozy restaurant with a group of six and we had such a genuinely pleasant experience from start to finish. The food was delicious and arrived in a very timely manner, piping hot and thoughtfully presented. We were offered bread, water, and Parmesan cheese to complement our meals, which immediately set the tone for attentive service. Four of us ordered drinks from the menu, including the watermelon drink, while I opted for a bottle of the Primatus red wine, which paired beautifully with dinner. I ordered the Maccheroni Stellari Arrabbiata and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sauce and spice. Every dish that came to the table looked amazing, and everyone was genuinely happy with their selection. We had two vegetarians in our group, and they raved about the pumpkin ravioli, saying it was way better than expected. The Risotto dish also looked incredible and is definitely on my list for next time. Overall, the night was wonderful. The ambience was interestingly both lively and intimate at the same time...you could hear conversation, but it never felt overwhelming or disruptive. The servers and food runners were incredibly friendly, and one particular food runner truly stood out. She was charming, quick with thoughtful responses, and added such a warm, welcoming energy to the experience. Dining here feels like being invited into someone's boutique restaurant set in their sophisticated backyard and kitchen. Cozy, elevated, and memorable. I'd absolutely return. read more

Finally went to Maccheroni Republic and it is fantastic. Everything from the calamari, to the salad, and the pastas were stellar. Drinks also awesome. Every dessert was homemade and delicious. A summer evening, outside on the charming patio, can't be beat. Service was fabulous too! Go! read more
Very popular place, especially on weekends. They don't take reservations. Our party of 5 had about an hour wait and they only seat complete parties. The front desk attendant was nice and the server was friendly and attentive. It's a cozy ambiance that has a nice patio. Theres a parking structure directly behind the restaurant which makes the parking cost $16 with validation instead of $22. The food was delicious. The homemade pasta is very fresh. We shared the meatballs appetizer for the table which were awesome and flavorful. I had the Pappardelle Al Cinghiale which was good, but I thought it would have more tomato sauce. The pasta was amazing and the wild boar was good but a little gamey. I'd come back and try something different next time. read more

I came here for dinner, and it was really good. We started with the calamari, which was crispy and delicious. We also got a salad, which was fresh. The pasta was delicious as well. We got the Bianchi & Neri. The pasta was perfectly au dente, and the sauce was delicious. I thought the price was fair, and the ambiance of the restaurant was nice. I came here years ago and remember ordering something that I liked but did not love and always wanted to come back to try what I was eyeing the last time. Thankfully, someone on my team retired and I had the opportunity 6 years later to come back. I ordered the Bianchi & Neri and it was delicious. I can't describe how much I loved it. It has everything I love in a pasta - shrimp and creamy :). I am so happy that I came back and had the opportunity to have it. For appetizers, we had the calamari and the meatballs and the bruschetta. The bruschetta was super fresh and good and the calamari was yummy. I was starving so I didn't get an opportunity to take pictures. We came at about 11:30am on a Thursday so even with a table of 8, we were able to basically walk in with only a 5 minute wait. Parking is sort of plentiful and on the side and to the back. As with everything in DTLA, it's a paid lot but it is easy and near which I like. Need to bring my family soon as they are pasta lovers. Plenty of reviews already but adding my two cents. Stopped in for bite after visiting the Bradbury Building (bucket list ). Started with the Burratina and Insulata Arugula. Both were good but enjoyed the Burratina more. Then we shared a plate of Cacio Pollo Pappardelle. Yum! Creamy rich with perfectly cooked pasta. We finished with a battle of the desserts: flan vs flourless cake. The cake was light and slightly bitter in a good way but the clear winner was the flan. The texture and flavor were fantastic. The service was great but the food was no better than Olive Garden. The first red flag was the cold bread basket. Second was the pre-grated Parmesan out of a container and not freshly grated at the table. Finally, one pasta dish was salty and the other was bland. We typically get the black and white pasta with shrimp. Buttery with bits of bacon - so easy to finish the whole thing. Server recommended a popular wine which was okay as they did not have a huge selection of liquor or wine - it a blended red on the acidic side. Server was awesome and made sure that we had everything we needed. Their support staff was good as wells. Ambiance is dimly lit, quaint, and cozy. read more

Can a book a group event here?
I don't know about group events, I do know they don't take reservations. If you have a larger group, they split you into multiple tables. The wait is ridiculous.
Do they accept cash? also, do they offer coke products/fountain sodas?
I'm sure they accept cash. It's not a fountain soda type of place but I'm sure they could tell you if they call them

Hi! We have a fish & shellfish allergy. Safe to eat at the restaurant or is the cross contamination risk too high?
They are very considerate. My date has s poultry allergy and they were very accommodating.
Are there new hours of operation? The website and other sources say it's open Monday and Tuesday but it was closed when we went both days

No reservations, but there's a wait list everyday. Come earlier or avoid busy hours . Turnover is fairly quick. They try to accommodate you if they can. Worth the wait! Highly recommended.
