I was in kahala and wanted to try a new brunch place. Came across this restaurant through yelp. Came in during brunch hour on a Sunday with a girlfriend. I was confused on where the entrance was. We were standing and waiting in front of the entrance for a good 8-10min until someone noticed us. First off - our seating was very awkward, it was pushed near the back register. So my friend has to scood her seat in whenever they had to put in an order or grab utensils. We were given our appetizers first they forgot to give us our sharing plates as well as our Utensils... Things I've ordered: Clam chowder (1/5) - THIS was highly recommended as their popular dish. But why did my bread ended up burnt & my soup given to me at room temperature? I'm so sad :( it seemed really watery and not thick and chunky. It also lacked flavor. Clam chowder is one of my favorite soups and I was so dissatisfied in this. Oysters (1/5) - The oysters come with 4 They forgot to give us the sauce to accommodate our oysters and I didn't realize this. So my friend & I tried these oysters WITHOUT sauce at first and it didn't taste fresh... they later brought out the sauce & it was semi better. The main entrees I had made up for the 2 appetizers. The loco moco had good flavor and the kampachi was delicious. Although the kampachi was slightly over cooked because the skin tasted burnt :( Overall- I really don't know if I would return and update my review. I'm honestly very displeased with my first visit. Okay so I was trying to find some veggie options on Waikiki side and came across this little hotspot. I want to explore their whole menu as I'm digging the creations they have going with all the fresh ingredients. If I was still on island for Thanksgiving would have totally taken them up on the holiday offerings. I had low expectations because of the slim pickings for veggie options in Waikiki side but they delivered and slapped my senses. I was scraping up every bite and licking my spoon on the mushroom risotto hahahaha #judgeme it was fabulous! The lavender lemonade was so refreshing and light, just how I like it. Overall cute place to grab brunch. Very interesting that this is inside of a Foodland, never would have expected it lol. The food is just OK, you're really paying more for the ambience. Short rib loco moco: pretty good, the beef was tender. Missing more of the gravy sauce though. Ube latte: this tasted really watery to me. It was essentially a dirty Ube latte with an espresso shot in it, but I thought it was just OK. Garlic chicken and mochi waffle: the chicken was dry. Came during Happy Hour so there was a limited menu to choose from. Tried the truffle Parmesan fries, Arancini, and Sliders. Everything was delicious! There were two small but tasty sliders, three pieces of the braised beef / risotto arancini, and decent amount of truffle fries with aioli sauce. Went here on Christmas Eve lunch time. I made reservations through open table and got their 20 mins early and they sat us right away. The service was pretty quick. The waitress was very friendly, she greeted us and got us water. They had their Christmas menu so they recommended this lamb meatball as a starter. All of us got the loco moco. The lamb dish tasted a bit tarts not sure what was in the sauce. I didn't care for it but the bread that came with it was good. The loco moco was pretty good. The short rib was very soft and tender, I was a bit disappointed with the rice though. It wasn't anything special. I thought in the menu it said fried rice so I was excepting a little more. I love and appreciate how the manager visited all the tables to make sure everything was perfect... and it was. It's the perfect place for a relaxing Sunday brunch. et al. seemed like a proper choice for a well-deserved, nicer dinner that wouldn't break the bank. We made our reservation through Open Table and were seated promptly despite being 15 minutes early. The ambiance held a moderate buzz of live music and continual diners. The guy singing was actually pretty good and sang a bunch of alternative songs. Kudos! It was between the braised short rib loco moco and et al. burger for me. Our waitress did a good job on selling the burger and the bun! I asked for it without the bun and she insisted it wouldn't be the same and I may as well get the loco moco instead. She was right, the burger and bun were perfect, the truffle fries complemented it so well, too. My wife reported the lobster roll was "delicious". The bun wasn't too greasy from the butter, lobster was tender and juicy, best yet, no mayo! The arancini was perfectly crispy and full of flavor. I wish I didn't have to share! The banana pudding was not good, incredibly dense and flavorless, it seemed slightly old. Mahi'ai Table's desserts weren't good either, so, perhaps it's just their downfall. Got an ube adult beverage but the rum was so robust it overpowered the mild, sweet flavor of ube. I would not get that again, it was pretty, though! Service was ok. Our waitress was a little flat with us and I noticed her more upbeat with her other tables. Parking can be difficult with so many other businesses in the area. The lights from cars parked in front, can be jarring, even with the blinds drawn. Bathrooms are outside and you need a code, be sure to get that before walking there. Et Al in Latin means "and others" and after coming here for dinner with my family, I would prefer to dine at out other spots indeed. Before I get critical, I will preface by saying that et al put itself on the map via social media and food magazines by winning second place for best new restaurant in 2021. It's 2023 now and I would not recommend this establishment at least for dinner. My mom raves about their brunch but the dinner was probably one of the most disappointing meals I've had since visiting home for the week. Let me put it this way - the decaf coffee was the best item we ordered tonight. Nuff said. For food, we got the kanpachi with chili soy broth and garlic rice, the clam chowder, oysters, the lobster roll, the salad, and the garlic fried chicken with mochi waffle. By reading the random assortment of food items I just listed, are you also confused? I'm unsure what type of vibe they're going for but the spectrum ranges from fresh oysters and bone marrow to lobster rolls with French fries and waffles for dinner which seems odd. If is restaurant is asking $37 for a kanpachi dish, I would think that the food should be a bit higher class. Personally for myself, I didn't love my kanpachi dish. While it was good, it was not worth the price, I felt like I could make it at home, and I still felt hungry after unfortunately. As for the fried chicken, believe me when I say you could get the same exact thing in the Foodland deli next door for a fraction of the cost. The rest of the food was okay, but nothing in particular to ride home about. The staff was nice to us but not very attentive to our needs, perhaps due to being tired from a long day of work. I do want to give the brunch a try someday but do not waste your money on the dinner. To the restaurant management - my suggestion would be to align your dinner service offerings with a consistent vibe. Friends have told me to try et al for their happy hour. If you know me, you know I love me a good happy hour. Drink specials and pupu specials to keep me from getting drunk too fast. We got several appetizers. Ahi tartar: this we enjoyed. tasty. Bone marrow: the bread crumbs on top made it dry. the bread that came with was a bit thick. The grill Kona Kampachi is perfect. It's cooked to tender perfection with a touch of pepper spice on a scrumptious bed of pak choy in a soy-based sauce. Then decided to come for brunch a few days later and they said we couldn't come in with our coffee from Starbucks. Really disappointing. It had an egg that oozed when i cut it. Yum!! The crab was served over 1/2 poi english muffin (wondered what happened to the other half). Dish came with a nice portion of hash brown (not cooked crispy, but delicious). Service wasn't as expected when they start the suggested tip at 22% . I expected a refill of coffee which was priced at $5 but needed to wave down the waitress for that. Server checked on us only once after serving our meal. Earn 1 star back for server refilling our water glasses and checking on us often! Everything about Foodland Farms (FF) restaurants is such a great idea! I heard this particular restaurant is the best FF dine in concept restaurant so I was elated to meet up here. I was a bit worried about finding (my idea of) good parking being it is a supermarket parking lot shared with other establishments, but I quickly found the perfect stall. Although the offerings are limited, we both enjoyed our lunch choices. In my case, it is a good thing because I am often indecisive when faced with too many options. I will definitely be back to try other items. The portions are large. My Risotto was a bit heavy for lunch, but got to enjoy it the next day. I just want to start off this review with a comment about the service. Kardi was absolutely AMAZING. I loved talking with her and she was so kind and friendly. She gave great recommendations and made the night go by smoothly. Even if the food was bad (which it wasn't), I'd go back just to see her. We had a few appetizers, the Bone Marrow was delicious and full of flavor, but I'd say the Clam Chowder (not pictured because we were starving) was the fan favorite for us, I might get that as a meal next time because it was SO good. Now for the entrees, we got three. I had the Mushroom Risotto with Shrimp, it was definitely worth the hype, by then I was getting full and hadn't finished half of it. My fiancé and I split the Lobster Roll, and I wasn't expecting much because normally Lobster Rolls are small and mediocre, but this one! Was huge! The garlic aioli was necessary if you want more flavor but very worth it! We paired it with the truffle fries which were crispy and fresh another 10/10. And last but not least, their chicken and waffles. It was a Korean Fried Chicken and Mochi waffles which were fluffy and chewy at the same time, I wasn't a fan of the black sesame butter, but that's personal preference. The chicken was crispy and flavorful and is another must get. We shared the Chocolate Macadamia Tart with Kona Coffee Gelato, it was very rich and decedent my favorite part must be the lilikoi caramel, it was different and sweet and tart, but I will be trying the Banana Bread Pudding next time it looked so good! Ambiance was nice, clean, and laid back. Their drinks were delicious as well, and their wine list and beer list was extensive as well. Service is always awesome, unfortunately we went at noonish and seated by the glass window was slightly hot the day we went, but that didn't change the quality of the food. Trio made it to brunch on our second visit. Surprised to find open times for Saturday a few days ago via Open Table app. My hunch was best to book online now. Three decent sized clams paired well with consistency and thickness which was very comforting and savory. Braised Short Rib Loco Moco: I let my hubby enjoy this meal which he said it was really good. He wanted me to try short rib which I did and didn't regret since it's tender and easy to chew. Lobster Roll with Fries: Grateful to sink my teeth and taste buds in lobster MP sandwiched in grilled sweet roll. Wish yummy, moist and soft lobster could be bigger or larger in quantity. Couldn't finish fries so I told him to take the rest of fries with ketchup. Kids Cheese Pizza: My son really enjoyed his pizza and allowed us to try a slice. I came here for breakfast with my friends and it was pretty empty so we were able to sit in a open spot. We were excited to try since we had heard good things and my friend already said the dinner was good. The staff was nice and the space looks really nice as well. I ordered the breakfast bowl and while overall it wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. It seemed like the sentiment across my friends as well as we all felt like we wouldn't order whatever we got again. It's possible we had high expectations. The one thing that was not good was the avocado in my bowl had bits of the avocado shell/peel that I had to spit out. Foodland has refreshed a lot of their stores, including dine-in services --- inside a grocery store. I know it's quite unheard of, but I think it's genius! We'll talk about why later.... For now, we'll talk about et al. - it's the restaurant located inside Foodland in Waialae Avenue (Kahala). Though I've only tried two of Foodland's in-store dine-in experiences (and both of them have great food offerings), et al. goes on top of my list by a hair. Our friend made table reservations for brunch here, which is on Saturdays and Sundays from 6 am to 2 pm. We shared the Fig & Prosciutto pizza and it was surprisingly good. It's a perfect combination of sweet and savory, and the arugula topping adds to the crunchy texture. Will definitely order that again in a heartbeat. Since I haven't had breakfast yet, I went with a traditional 2 Eggs with Bacon and a big side of Portuguese Sausage; since I know that it might be a while until I eat Portuguese Sausage again. My friends ordered the Loco Moco, which in my opinion generously portioned, and a couple of them ordered Clam Chowder. They all raved about it! And of course, what is brunch without Mimosas?! They also offer a wide selection of wine as well, if that is what you fancy. The service is great. Our server was friendly, and though I got there later than everyone else and placed my order a little later, I got taken care of right away. You can enjoy Pau Hana daily too from 2 pm to 5 pm. There's an abundance of parking, however, it can be busy so I suggest arriving early (the reason why I was late). So back to why having dine-in service inside a grocery store is genius... Et al. is one of my favorite brunch spots as of late. A friend was visiting and decided to take her there. My other friends and I loved the food so much, we ended up coming back the next weekend too! The second time we dined, it was my birthday and our server was kind enough to add a scoop of coffee gelato and a candle to my dessert (chocolate torte). My current favorite brunch meal is the garlic chicken and mochi waffle. It comes with this sesame butter that is just *chefs kiss". Also tried the breakfast bowl, loco moco, omelette, and regular waffle. You can never go wrong with any of those. Service is always friendly and I just love the decor. Food was good compared to what they charged for, but my last visit was when they first opened. Nothing served tonight remotely tasted like several years ago. The pork chop was very disappointing. It was dry, rough, and tough to chew on. The rib eye and the rack lamb were nothing spectacular and average at best. The Hawaiian chowder was perhaps the best thing we ordered. I vaguely remember reading about their burger so that was my preferred meal choice before looking at the menu. In discussing the menu, our host ordered two appetizers to share. Wow this place was a totally spontaneous booking, but I am so glad I tried it! My mom, my toddler and I were getting together with a couple of family friends and we really wanted to do a nice brunch. It was only a few days in advanced that our plans were solidified, so a lot of brunch places were booked up for the weekend or only had weird times available like 8am. Although that was disappointing, I am SO glad it led me to et al. I honestly had never heard of it and just did a yelp search for who was open and took reservations. It is located IN the "Kahala Market by Foodland." It was a little confusing; I drove around the strip mall looking for a restaurant, but luckily I called my mom and she got there before me and was able to tell me where to park. You would not expect a nice restaurant to be in a super market, but it was so cool! Very nice and modern. The host was very friendly and we were seated right away. Our server was excellent. He was super on top of things, and he had great recommendations for the menu. The manager also came out to check on us in the middle of the meal, and overall their service is exceptional. The food itself was really interesting! I was nervous after looking at the menu, since some of it seems kind of out there, but 3 of us got the avocado toast, different ways at the suggestion of our server (i.e. I got the plain avocado toast but added bacon and egg on top). I wasn't sure what $13 avocado toast would look like but it was definitely decked out! I couldn't finish it all. My mom got the crab benedict and said it was delicious. I am so glad they have a keiki menu and were super kid-friendly. Going out with a toddler is always a little unpredictable, but she did great! She got the mochi waffle, which she loved and I ended up eating some too. I also had to try to ulu latte, just for the novelty. It was surprisingly good. The bathrooms are a bit far and outside of the market, which was a little annoying, but just because I have a very slow toddler with me. That's not the restaurants fault, just something to note. On Mondays, I like to have lunch with my mom. We have a "go-to" place in Ala Moana, but today, my mom said she wanted something "different." Oh, okay.... I'm a creature of habit. How could you change it up - mom!?! I made my reservations on OpenTable, making it really convenient for me. Upon checking in the lady was very pleasant. The space is open and airy feeling. There is a bar to the left and tables are spaced well. We went for a mid-day lunch and it wasn't too busy, which was nice. For lunch we ordered: * Hawaiian Clam Chowder - The smoke meat added a nice flavor. Clams came with the shell. * Lobster Roll w/ Garlic Fries - Mom * Fresh Catch (Ono) - The crispy rice added nice texture. The yuzu dashi poured on top of it was delicious. It was a spin off of like eating an Ochazuke dish. * Espresso Almond Semifreddo - Ours came a little frozen... Unsure if that was intentional. Once it softened, it was very creamy. It's like a deconstructed tiramisu. * Plantation Iced Teas - Are not sweet enough for me, but the tea is still good. My mom ordered my brother the Fried Chicken and Waffles to-go and he really enjoyed it! Service was good and attentive. Our server gave out recommendations too when he heard that it was our first time there. I really appreciate that! I'm happy that we gave this place a try. Two for dinner and we tried four things :) which item tasted best??? Et al. Okay, so maybe that's not how to use it in a sentence but what I can say is, everything we ordered tasted good. 1. Hamakua mushroom risotto was incredibly delicious. Nice texture, fabulous taste, and generous with the mushrooms. Always love to support our Hawaii farmers :) 2. Kabocha casarecce was pretty good too. It was fork tender and seasoned well. Would have loved a little more chunks of kabocha though. 3. Three scoops of Kona Coffee gelato. Rich and smooth...we devoured every bit of this local flavor! 4. Espresso Almond Semifreddo tasted good once we let it thaw a bit....it was really really frozen LOL but we sure did finish that off :) Thank you Prestyn and Et Al. team, great job! read more

A supermarket restaurant? Located in a small shopping center, we were able to find a parking space near the restaurant. We entered through the entry by the parking lot but you can enter from the Kahala Market, which might the main entrance since the hostess was located there. Kahala Market is a Foodland Market and I found out that et al. was Foodland's third restaurant after opening Redfish Poke Bar and Mahi'ai Table in Kapolei's Foodland. The interior of Et al was modern, bright, upscale casual with high ceilings. Meeting our friends for brunch, we were seated at a nice table off to the side, affording better environment for conversation. The menu had some starters and about 11 entrees. We started with fresh shucked oysters with a yuzu kosho mignonette and the short rib arancini in a green pea sauce, herb aioli, lemon zest and pecorino. The oysters were very fresh and the shortrib filled crispy arancini were delicious. I had a coffee and they use beans from Kona Coffee Purveyors. For my entrée, I had the braised short rib loco moco. The short rib with short rib gravy was on fried rice with a medium cooked sunny side egg on top. The loco moco was covered with crispy onion. Never had a loco moco with short rib and it took this classic dish to another level. Friends had the Smoked House Cured Salmon Toast and the Crispy Soft Shell Crab Benedict. The food here looks delicious and are beautifully plated. You wouldn't think this being a supermarket restaurant. But the food here is delicious and the atmosphere is so pleasant.
