This place is excellent. If you live in the area, you MUST check it out. I've been living in Jackson Heights since 2001, and there's no other place comparable to Espresso 77. The sell Gimme Coffee! from Ithaca, NY = awesome. They have excellent hot and cold drinks (personally, I love the Mango Mint Limonata). And like other people have written, their food is top notch. I'd like to eat dinner here all the time! I recommend the the Salad with Chicken, or Curry Chicken Salad sandwich. read more

Coffee used to be good. Now it's just flavorless. Wouldn't recommend it. Go to Starbucks.

This is a great little cozy and hip cafe in 'prime' JH. The walls are painted a sunny orange and everything is aesthetically considered- which seems fitting for two architect-owners. Besides the great coffee and baked goods, they also pints of ice cream, coffee beans, Jackson Heights t-shirts and "I heart Queens" products. Artwork by local artists hangs on the wall. They also have live performances, art openings and readings as well. The owners are very friendly and it's easy to meet new people in here. read more

I've been here countless times and live not too far away. Love the live jazz/acoustic music thurs-sat nights. We stop in once a week usually for that and a few glasses of wine. They actually have a very solid beer selection too about six different rotating craft taps. Food is very solid for a cafe, with some specials here and there. Def one of the coolest spots in JH. read more

Love love love this place. In a 'hood is that is starved for joints with some young blood (that isn't another homogenized Starbucks), E77 is practically an oasis. They are always thinking of new ways to serve you coffee, which is great (try the sweet Thai iced coffee!) and the food they serve ain't half bad either, though a little pricey I'll admit. Love to come here and sit on the benches outside and talk to other locals. A gem! read more

I love stopping by this place--they've got really great coffee from gimme! coffee and AWESOME scones from Alice's Teacup, but I like the vibe of the place more than anything. It's a small, locally owned business that looks to support similar suppliers. When i'm in Jackson heights for whatever reason, I enjoy having my Starbucks. From reading some of these review I can see why it's become so crowded. It seems Espresso 77 is not producing quality. I had tried Espresso 77 when it first opened a few years ago and found it to be okay. I really have avoided it since because it always looks so crowded. It really is on the same level as Starbucks, so it's easier to go there where there's more room to sit. I went to Starbucks today and had no place to sit and a line like i've never seen. My message to 77, Please improve your coffee as another reviewer has suggested, so I can get my seating back. read more

I really want to like this place...but...the one who seems to be in charge is rude to customers and employees...not the best coffee and short pour of an inch or so! Too bad...we really need a cool chill coffee hangout in our area that doesn't send bad vibes if you are reaching your 1 hour limit of surfing!!! The owners would have been better to stick with opening a dunkin donuts! Hopefully, the owners will recognize the need for good customer service by all whom are expressing their concerns on this site and change the way they do business! 1. The frappes here are disgusting: totally unsweetened, imbalanced flavors. Guys: if you can't make a good version of a drink, just don't offer it. 2. I looked at several other reviews on here and am not surprised to find that this is not the first negative review. I had been coming here for awhile and enjoyed the place for it's unique, quiet atmosphere. I try to support small, locally owned businesses no matter what they are selling. However, the last time I was here I was asked to leave because I had been there too long. (1 hr.) Within that hour I had purchased a coffee, lunch and a few more drinks after that. When asked if I needed anything else I replied, "not right now, thank you". A minute or two after this, the owner came up to me and said, "The time limit to use your computer here is one hour. If you aren't going to buy anything else, you need to leave. This isn't Starbucks". This was said loud enough for everyone in the shop to hear. Many of the other customers had been there long before I was and were still there using their computers. Naturally, I turned red and was embarrassed. This guy sees me all the time. I'm quiet, mind my own business and spend way more money than normal people do at a coffee shop and always tip over 20%. I completely believe that it is rude to loiter in a place and use their facilities without purchasing something. I always continue to buy more coffee or whatever they have if I am going to remain their. However, it is also outrageously rude and common to discuss this with a client, not to mention completely unprofessional. I am very offended, but apparently they don't need the business. Needless to say, that is the last time I will ever go to this place. It's sad that some people have absolutely no class whatsoever and don't realize the negative effect it can have on your business. read more

I'm so happy I found this place! In my opinion, one of the best non-chain, local cafés in New York. The espresso is fantastic, the coffee drinks are well made, the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, the atmosphere is cozy, there is only limited use of laptops and screens allowed = the sound of conversations between friends and the sight of books being read... Sigh! Great food too. Espresso 77 brought me back to 10 years ago when going for a coffee could be a romantic date (not having to sandwich oneself between a ton of laptops and cords, surrounded by flickering screens and zoned out faces...). My husband and I stopped in after dinner in Jackson Heights and ended up in such a great conversation, the atmosphere was so conducive to a relaxed exchange of ideas. Good Americano coffee with a veggie (and rather cheesy) breakfast wrap with beau at 4pm lol we both got the same wrap, which is served with a small mixed greens salad, while he got a honey pot. I think that's the coffee with honey -- didn't really read the description. Best of all, we stayed for about an hour and a half, playing a card game. The $22-and-change bill came with a good experience for us coffee lovers. read more

As a non-coffee drinker, personally found the place (unappealing and contrived pastries/etc) to be pricey and kinda stuffy, toeing the line between filling a gap and forcing a culture upon a neighborhood. read more

It's relaxing and chilled on weekends. Quality coffee a bit pricey a few gluten free items but the place is clean and artsy. Mom n pop shop and the owners are nice. Coffee is good. The wifi is horrific pleasssssse fix this! U go to chill and ten minutes later one page has loaded on iPhone. Overall a good neighborhood spot and I'm trying to mention the good in Queens as lately the "screw u" attitude (evidenced in the drivers and hatchet parking jobs) seems to have dominated my dining experience so I'm trying to balance and mention the good spots as well. Update. 3$ for gluten free bread surcharge on sandwiches. $3! I can buy a LOAF of gluten free bread for that (and so can u, why don't u get some UDIs at Cosco and drop the surcharge like many places are doing these days?). So a grilled cheese is $12 before tax and tip. I don't get it. I just won't eat here at those prices. I can't understand how that can work for u as a business model? Will still come for coffee occasionally. read more

AWESOME little cafe in the heart of peaceful section of Jackson Heights. Their cappuccino is amongst the finest I've had in New York, the milk they use is super fresh and the espresso is very good quality. I love the neighborhoody vibe to this place and the fact they have Live Music nights and the staff seems to really care about being part of the community. The staff is also super friendly and there's no hipster douche attitude you get in alot of coffeeshops (I'm looking at you, Brooklyn). read more

I know some people aren't in love with this place because it seems to draw a certain Park Slope-like "stroller mafia" element. I am generally not a fan of that vibe either, but I must say, the coffee and food here is very good, and was served to me by very attentive and friendly staff on a recent visit. I also love the Mets-themed paint colors and fun and attractive selection of Queens-related merchandise that is hard to find. Represent! read more

This is a very tiny cute little coffee house. It's got a strong local community vibe. But again, it's tiny, with like 3-4 small tables. They have free wifi, and admittedly, I was there one afternoon for a good 3-4 hours working on my book, but I don't know if I would make the trip just to write there. If it were just a little bit bigger, with a few more tables, may be. Coffee and tea, not bad. read more

Solid coffee and great baked goods, I'm especially addicted to their awesome ham scone thingy. The only sort of 'hipper' hangout in Jackson Heights. Before you flame gentrifier at me I grew up on the LES and Astoria and most of my friends grew up in J Heights so whatever, haters. I think because they are the only 'yuppie' coffee shop in the area they do very well and tend to hiccup with the service. My boo literally goes there every day and he asked to redeem one of those frequent service cards for a free drink after having 10. The cashier gave him 'tude and acted like he was doing him a favor. Not cool - you shouldn't treat your customers this way, especially not someone who goes there constantly. read more

Chic little café in Jackson Heights with an excellent range of creative coffees. The apple and caramel latte was intriguing and their breakfast food was wholesome and tasty. Explanation of my rating system. 1 full star for cleanliness (this is a good thing) 1 full star for atmosphere / vibe (quite inviting) 1 full star for service (if people say they are hipsters, they certainly don't have an attitude. I felt they were really nice) 4th start not granted due to taste (see review below) the 5th star is always if the place is above and beyond awesome It is ALWAYS positive to see folks take a chance and start a coffee joint which is not Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds. Chains often lack that little something something to make a good cup of coffee. But alas...I came here when it first opened years ago to try an espresso. I figured since it is called Espresso 77, the least they could do is make a fine espresso. It was so burnt, I had to walk out of the cafe to rid myself of this coffee without offending anyone. I thought..Ok, maybe it was an off day. I went back again and had lunch...but this time, I had a beer. The food was just ok for me. Recently, I went back again, this time for a latte. I really hate to say this but it was positively the worst tasting latte I have had in a long time. Something was seriously off and there was this acidic aftertaste. I have had Dutch and Colombian INSTANT coffee which tasted better. It was so disappointing and I really don't feel that I am that picky. Coffee should have that lovely robost aroma and flavor...but the coffee here just left a bad taste in my mouth. I really REALLY want to support this establishment..but lordy...if you are going to have a cafe...you simply must make a lovely cup a joe. read more

Once thing to notice though: if you plan on going there to use your laptop you may not be able to at certain times. I agree with the owners. This coffee shop is the nicest/trendiest one I know in town. It definitely is a relief from the usual starbucks etc. The owner has always been present when I go and that is always a good thing in my opinion. The staff is friendly and they can recommend good drinks in case you are not sure about what to order. I believe they recommended the Toffee Nut Latte and it was really good. The ambiance is very hip with a crowd ranging in the mid 20's to senior citizens..it's a place for everyone. They also have art work hung up all over the cafe and I heard they hold live music weekly. Since expanding to take over the space next door, this cafe has gotten way better. Service is faster, the barista are super nice, and it's a more comfortable place to be. Granted, I haven't eaten anything but cream cheese bagels and a scone for $3.75 (?!?), but I come here all the time and it's one of my favorite parts of the neighborhood. I just love this coffeeshop. And I don't even drink coffee. It has a wonderful selection of non-coffee drinks, including an amazingly refreshing honey-mint limonata. Oh, and the NEW limonata with green apples and mangos is simply sublime. As for the food, the owners always come up with new menu items, which is great for those who get bored with the same old, but need a little help getting out of a routine. There are lots of healthy options that contrast nicely with the devilishly delicious cookies and muffins. Yummy smoothies too. As for sitting at a table in front of your laptop for more than an hour, it's just not what the shop is about. From my understanding, the owners had envisioned a coffee shop with a neighborly vibe -- a network hub for artists and art lovers. That is one of the main reasons why it is so loved. And as awkward as it must be, it's great that the owners take pains to preserve that atmosphere. The tables are used for people to meet and exchange. I think a knitting circle still meets one night a week. I think a kids' story hour still happens on a monthly basis. If I bring any device at all, it is an iPad, and I go during offhours and limit my stay to an hour. If I am engrossed in my solitude, I'll buy something else and stay for just another half hour. If you're looking for a place to plop down and stare at your laptop for a long time, this is not the place for you. Not that there is anything wrong with that - you just may feel more welcome at the Starbucks down the street. However, if you're looking for a place to enjoy good food, good drinks, local art and good music, this is where you want to be. read more

Great selection of coffee and tea, as well as a fairly diverse menu--the french toast is my favorite. They also have a nice selection of wine and beer (and make a tasty sangria in the summer). I love that E77 features a rotating gallery of local artists, and often has live music at night. It can get crowded, so be patient, it's worth the wait. read more
