I go to Ernesto's all the time. I'm surprised I haven't previously reviewed them, given I'm a regular customer and have eaten here so often. Before my visit today, I might reviewed Ernesto's highly. But not after today. I visited on a Friday evening because I wanted a quick, easy pepperoni pizza. I came in and saw three workers staffing the front of the restaurant, and saw they had two slices of pepperoni pizza available. I asked for one, to-go, and sat down. About a minute after I sat down, another customer came in and ordered two slices of pizza. They sat down but then got their pizza a few minutes later and left, meanwhile I still hadn't received mine. A few minutes later and I knew something was wrong; it doesn't take that long to heat a pizza. I started a timer to see how long they'd take. After more than ten minutes of waiting, one of the workers (who had been distracted chatting) opened up the oven and a ton of smoke came out. I knew it, they forgot my pizza and let it burn. I watched them grab the next slice of pepperoni and pop it in the oven. 1 minute 43 seconds later and that pizza was ready and they called me up. It should've been a quick in-and-out, it was just a pepperoni pizza! They wasted time as well as wasted a pizza. read more

Since this is the only pizza place at Assembly Row I am grateful that they have yummy pizza because I love pizza. 15 bucks for a large cheese that will feed four people is not bad. However the restaurant is small so it is not an ideal sit down if there are more than 4 in your party. Of course you can always get pizza to go. Just want a slice? I was actually shocked with this place. I thought it was gonna be pretty basic, but then I found out they have hugeee slices. They had a ton of options although they weren't too friendly with explaining them to you. Pricing wasn't bad for how big of the slices were it was like 2 slices in 1. I think I've finally found the best gluten-free pizza in the Boston metropolitan area. Assembly Row has slowly gone from Dark Horse to The Little Engine that Could (and Did!). This cute little pizzeria, or pizza shop, as Bostonians more regularly refer to these eateries, is a testament to that. I was in the area with a friend, to catch a movie at the AMC. She was dying to eat, and I was content not consuming anything, because I was used to never being able to eat anything. I spotted this little shop after all of the cute bars were filled to the brim, and I told my friend, "Look! There are seats." She turned and said, "But don't you want to look for something gluten-free?" I didn't really care, so I went in... and as we sat, I read the magic words on the board: "GLUTEN FREE PIZZA." Late lunch or not, I had to try it. Claiming that any pizza in anywhere other than New York tastes anything other than "okay" is difficult for me, but I'm confined to a medically prescribed diet, and I don't remember tasting anything remotely close to what I tasted tonight in... at least... a decade. I ordered the 10" gluten-free cheese pizza, since I was taught -- in my home city -- that toppings are for people who expect pizza to taste bad. I set my sights high from the beginning; I set myself up to either be very impressed or sorely disappointed. Luckily for me, there was no disappointment tonight. The gluten free flour-base was, of course, very thin. The cheese was perfect -- it was well-matched to its gluten-free flour base. It actually tasted like pizza. I often find that gluten-free pizza can taste like cardboard, or tomato sauce, or burnt cheese. None of these things were true for tonight's meal. In fact, it was so perfect, that I was able to eat the entire 10" pie by myself, in one sitting. I have never, ever, in my life, eaten that much pizza by myself. The slices were tiny, but I find that this is sometimes necessary with gluten-free pies, because the flour can be very fragile. I was able to fold my tiny slices without having them break -- the cheese didn't fall off, the base didn't fall off. That seldom happens. Have I died and gone to heaven? Am I in Oz? Nope? I guess I'm just enjoying the things the rest of the world takes for granted (because I finally can). read more

We ordered via grub hub and my negative comments are that it took over an hour to arrive (an hour and 10 i believe) and the price is pretty high for a pizza (like $24.05 for this pizza, spinach, ricotta, mushroom and garlic). I wasn't really a fan of this pizza joint, I thought it was a little pricey as well. It wasn't the best pizza I've tasted for the price, I thought it was a little doughy and not enough cheese, also my cheese seemed a bit burned. I didn't really taste the Italian seasonings that I hope for in any pizza I try. I took my students here on a field trip, they appreciated the free meal, but a few of them disclosed that it didn't taste great either. Yesterday was no different, as I was spending the day with my god daughter. We lucked out and came at a time when tables were available. Believe me, this place can get packed real quick, with a line outside the door even! So the slices are basically a quarter of the pie starting at $4. The prices are quite reasonable as it's kind of like a 2 for 1 deal. You also have the option to order a whole pie, which is probably a better value and a wiser choice. ;) I never come with enough bellies, so a whole pie is always out of the question. Also, if you happen to secure seats, the employee will bring your hot pie right to your table. If you arrive at a time when it's not busy, service is generally quick, say under 5 mins. FYI the pies are pre made and heated to order, which works for me! I always order the meat lovers as that it one of my favorites. My god daughter said it was delicious as well, expect for the crust, it is way too doughy, which I concur. I also opted for the veggie slice on my recent visit. Assembly Row was really missing that quick and easy but good spot, especially with the AMC theater right there. Ernesto's fits the bill. I always have a struggle with weeknight movies. I get out of work at 5, so I can't get consistently get anywhere before 6, and then the evening showing starts at 7 (this grandma can't handle 9pm+ showings on a school night). I either scarf down a meal in 30 minutes and hope the waiter is fast with the check, or just skip dinner and fill up on popcorn. Either way, no good. M and I came here a few weeks ago before seeing Black Panther (if you haven't seen it yet, stop reading this review and go watch), and it was the perfect fit for a movie night. They had several types of pizza available by the slice (I opted for classic pepperoni), and super fast counter service. "Slices" actually constitute a quarter of a pizza (two slices anywhere else). M did a slice of pepperoni and a slice of chicken/ranch because he was feeling ambitious (spoiler alert: he couldn't finish them). Both were tasty. Not the best pizza you've ever had, but for the price and convenience, no complaints here. For drinks they have the standard fountain soda offerings. I'd love to see them get a beer/wine license, but hey, you can buy a beer at AMC (which we did). We'll be back for our next movie night in Assembly. read more

The meat lover's pizza was definitely loved by our group. The veggie pizza was KILLIN' IT with all the loaded veggies. It was the heaviest pizza of the 3 thanks to the fresh broccoli, eggplant, etc. HOWEVER -- definitely could have used a heavier hand with the salt. The caprese pizza was just ok. I felt like the cheese was a little sad and they could have put more on. Also, all the slices are massive. We got 3 large pizzas and had over a full pizza left with 5 adults. I guess that's... normal? If I were here for a movie, I'd definitely grab a quick slice with buds. read more

I don't like shrimp, but that still sounded cool. I love the chicken ranch pizza. Its so yummy and the crust is really good. They have good arienchinis too. They also have salads and garlic knots. Good idea of pizza but the cook is uneven distributed and lost a lot of toppings. The large bubbles had absolutely no cheese nor the huge amount of crust. The crust as you can see here ranges from 1inch to 3 inches across different pizzas. That's like losing 2 inches to 4 inches of toppings or 10-40 percent if the pizza was 10 inches. Also feels like 10-40% money wasted.... we would love to come back update the review if the cooking is fixed and we were offered compensation for cooking mistakes ?! read more

The best pizza for miles, and I've tried dozens. Sauce that's both tangy and sweet, cheese and toppings that taste fresh, and a thin yet crispy and chewy crust that's so good I could eat it alone as breadsticks. And it passes the ultimate test: still good after 2 days in the fridge, even cold. The only downsides are the price and the location. For a pizza this good (and this big) you pay a premium. And currently the only delivery is through Postmates, at an absurd +$10. Be prepared to hunt for a parking spot if you do take-out. read more

Idk how a pizza can have negative amounts of flavor, and even dumping all the oregano, chili flakes, salt and paper barely helped. Ernesto's is a small pizza shop on Assembly Row. My roommate goes here all the time and always said how good the pizza was for a pretty cheap price so when I was in the area I thought I'd give it a shot. The inside is small with a few seats and the pizzas they have readily available in a window of sorts so you can see what you're getting. I decided to go for the chicken bacon ranch pizza out of all of their choices. They take 2 huge slices that are between about a third and a fourth of a whole pizza, reheat it up for you in an oven and give you the pieces in a box. The pizza itself was really good for $4-$5 and was pretty filling since the slices were so large. They did overheat my pizza a bit so there was some burnt areas but overall the taste was solid. My first slice was hot and toasty here few months ago . Even at 8:30pm. But last night my slice was just slightly warm , pepperonis was room temperature , sausage was just cold and crust was not crisp at all . The topping just broken off. This review is for delivery. We ordered a pizza with a few of toppings and a Caesar salad. The pizza was 30 dollars, which I thought was kind of steep so we expected it to be pretty damn good. By the time the food arrived, the pizza was pretty cold. Not necessarily the restaurants fault, but we live less than 10 minutes away. Putting that aside, the pizza looked great and was quite large, so we were excited to dig in. It was just plain bad. The crust tasted like cardboard. The sauce was absolutely flavorless, the cheese was weak and also flavorless. Not an herb or seasoning in sight. And we're fairly certain the topping were frozen. I doubt there was any salt involved in the process. For over 50 dollars in food and delivery, we won't be ordering again. So bummed because I had heard good things! My favorite are the Chicken, Bacon, and Ranch, and the Pepperoni pizzas. The chicken is moist and tender, and the bacon and ranch form a wonderful savory pair. The pepperoni is fresh and deliciously salty, crispy on the edge and chewy at the center. The crust is toasted nicely on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside. And the best part is the huge portions, so that when you buy multiple slices, the employees always ask you, "you know how big it is right?" Oh, Ernesto's. You will seriously be the death of me with your massive, crispy, delicious slices of pizza. I never knew such a small pizza joint could redefine what it means to order a slice, but you've proved me wrong in the best way possible. Here's the thing: I doubted the sign Ernesto's had at their counter that basically said one piece of pizza equaled two standard slices. That's ludicrous. There's no way a pizza place would ever do that and still be financially afloat. So, when I ordered two pieces of plain, I was floored when I watched the guy behind the counter take half the cheese pie and put it into the oven. Obviously I had to question if what he was doing was right because I'm rude and have no filter. He was right. When I received four pieces of pizza, I was outwardly overwhelmed but secretly jumping up and down for joy. For $9ish bucks, I just claimed for myself half a pizza. And it's damn good pizza. We're talking thick, crispy crust, delicious sauce balanced well with generous amounts of cheese. Needless to say, I didn't waste those two (four) slices of pizza. In fact, I devoured them and rolled myself away from Ernesto's a very happy customer. If there's a anything you take away from this, it's that size matters. Overhyped. I find nothing particularly awesome about Ernestos. You are served a giant slice - literally a quarter of a pie. But it's cut in half so it's really two slices. The pies are pre-made and heated up on demand as you order. The toppings on the supreme slice ($5.21) include green pepper, dried out pepperoni, wilted onions, a smattering of tasteless sausage. I maybe ruining a tradition for some folks but I think the whole quarter pizza as a slice is a marketing ploy that works very well but is no different than the giant fireworks scam where it's buy one get one free but it's really just double the price of buying a single one! It's average pizza. It was good but didn't blow me away. While moderately expensive for pizza, it's still one of the cheaper options in Assembly Row. Had the Hawaiian slice and my parents had plain cheese and a sausage one. The "slice" is a huge and actually 2 slices that they split in half. My wife considers herself an expert on Ernesto's, seeing as how she was once their upstairs tenant in the North End. Rent included heat, water, and pizza. Seriously, i have no idea why she ever left either. So when she says it's the same, that should count for something. Outstanding, well-balanced pizza with a sweet and tangy sauce, excellent toppings, and a good crust. Nice, quarter-pie portions for a very reasonable price.
