I am a creature of habit. I have been going to this tailor for years. Even as they moved to a much tinier, hidden location, I stuck it out and exercised my loyalty. 90% of the time they do a great job - clean lines, reasonable prices, and quick. Recently, I've had to wait or come back for 2 gowns. They simply forgot, even when I told them I needed it at a specific date/time. And of course, the actual job was poorly done. I am a petite woman, so I have VERY frequent visits to my tailor and as a result we have a pretty special relationship. Unfortunately, looks like we will need to break up soon. read more

I had a great experience here at Erik's alterations. This place is amazing with alterations and extremely affordable. I took in a bridesmaid dress on the chest, straps, and hem and it was under $50. They alterations took about a week which was awesome if you are in a time crunch (which I was). I will be taking more of my alterations there for sure! read more

Took a bridesmaid dress to have the sides taken in and the slits on the sides sewn because they came up too high. It was a last minute job, and I had to pick the dress up the night before I needed it. Got home to try it on to find the sides were taken in but not the slits - the job wasn't done! They had also unhemmed the hem lines so even if I wanted to I couldn't have gone without the slits sewn because they were taken apart! I called and they told me to come back in but I didn't have time so I asked if they'd refund me for what I paid for the slits and long story short, I was told no and I can go find somewhere else to get my stuff tailored. It was a tough situation because I came in last minute and didn't have time for corrections, but very unprofessionally handled by not finishing the job and not compromising on the refund. This place is super hard to find. It is temporarily (I believe) located inside the university town center offices, on the 2nd floor deep within the office building, not where you'd expect to find a business. Anyway, I am giving 2 stars because the quality of the service was just not good. To be fair, the dress i brought in was in a satin material that is pretty hard to work with. I got it altered b/c the whole thing was way too big (they only make size 2 and i'm a 00). When I returned a week later to pick it up, overall it fit much better but the chest area was not altered at all. Whoever altered the dress had forgotten to alter the chest part completely, so the front desk lady altered ("tacked") it right there for me, while i was waiting. It was crudely done with loose threads sticking out all over the place and you can see the thread visibly on the front of the dress. It still didn't fit well even after "tacking" the chest part, but she said "well that is the best we can do with that material" and it still looks pretty bad. The whole thing still cost $45 even though it was obvious the job was not well done and the dress still doesn't fit. So I'm stuck with this awkward-looking, poorly fitted dress for the wedding :/ I believe this place would be just fine for a simple alteration job such as shortening the length of an item, or hemming pants. Don't bring anything too nice here for any fancy alternations though. read more

The original hem is better than some places I've been to around here, but definitely nothing beyond okay. However, for the prices they charge (i can understand they're next to UCI and renting from the Irvine Company) the work isn't that spectacular. I asked to bring in a bootcut pair of jeans into a tapered cut, and I was pretty sad with the quality of the job. Erik's was highly recommended to me by a couple of friends, so I thought my formal gown would be in good hands. I dropped my gown off a week before my event for a simple hem and two pleat reinforcements. When I came back the next week all of the pleats (2/3's of the dress was covered in structured pleats) were reinforced horribly. There was extremely sloppy sewing on top of the pleat and long visible threads were hanging out every where. You could look at the dress and easily see how horrible the reinforcements were done. I asked the lady to take out the pleat reinforcements that SHE put in because they looked horrible, but she cut all of the pleat stitches, even the ones that the designer had strategically placed on the dress. There were several runs in the fabric as well as small holes, and the dress was brand new when I left it with them. The basic hem was also crooked. Basically, they completely destroyed my gown and another tailor said the dress would have to be taken apart to fix the damage. I had to buy a new gown for the event and was not refunded for their crappy service or my dress! I'm not one to post anything to damage a business for the heck of it, but please be careful when having important clothing altered at this store. Maybe hems for pants are fine, but find a better place for formal wear. Quite frankly, I'm never going back to this place. Looking at the other reviews it seems that quality of service has lessened dramatically in recent years. Sadly, I would not give this place 1 star, but it was the lowest option possible, though I believe it is undeserving. :( read more

HORRIBLEEEEEEE!!!!! I was very frusterated with the service I received here. I took in a dress shirt to get a button replaced, and a pair of jeans to patch them. First off they sowed the buttion on off-center from the whole, Maybe it is really difficult to sew a button, because they sure cannot. When I looked at the pants, they looked nice, that was until I put them on, the first time i bent down, the jeans ripped on both sides of the patch. I took them to another alteration store, they advised me to take it back because the size of the patch was too small so the pants ripped. I took them back, the woman saw the pants listened to what i told her about the rip as soon as I put them on, Then preceded to tell me that they could try again for more money and that it wasnt their fault, but it was just the jeans. Now that I have joined the Yelper community, the first place I thought of was Erik's. Since I moved here 4 years ago, I could not find a place that really satisfied my taste and my sense of analness with things, especially clothes. Now I wouldn't say this is the best quality of craftmanship or whatever, but the pricing fits to what is offered and vice versa. To be honest with you I'm a big fan of Theresa and she takes care of me, so I'm one of those that enjoy giving biz to fellow biz owners that take care of there customers. I've been to other random ones throughout the years, and I always go back to Theresa at Erik's Alterations. Horrible service. I came in to get a top altered to fit and when I walked in all the lady did was stick some pins, then when I tried to remove the top I couldn't because the pins kept poking my skin. When I let the short haired Asian lady know she took out the pins and just replaced them with safety pins. I pick it up a week later and it's exactly the same as when I first brought the shirt in! I asked her to show me where the alterations were made, and explained that the shirt was still loose and the same. She tells me that be because I couldn't get out of my top before she had to "adjust" it. Horrible service, I was clearly displeased with the result and she didn't do anything to acknowledge my concerns or apologize. Never coming back here again read more

I brought in two pairs of jeans that had a holes needing to be stitched. Both of the pants were fixed beautifully and you can't even tell that they had holes in them. I'll definitely be coming back again & referring them to my friends. read more

I LOVE this place. I always get my pants hemmed here because I'm short. I've also gotten capris converted into shorts here. I once had about 4 pants altered at a dry cleaner's and they were too short so Erik's re-did the hem to be just the right length. I trust my clothes here. I don't usually get the original hem because about 6 inches is usually cut off. I'm like a size 0 but my legs are short and I get them tailored to fit me with flat shoes and not heels. I ask for my pants to get a cuff. Normal cut hem- $10 original hem $15. read more

I gave them the exact length I wanted, and they managed to screw up a simple job of hemming. Need I say more?? Lesson learned: never send your $200 jeans to Erik's Alterations. Came in again to hem another dress (I'm so short T_T) and take it in and they did another stellar job! I love my dress and the price was great. The fact that it was across the street from my office was a great bonus. Very convenient and quick. They don't make a fuss and take care of business. I was in and out after a final fitting check and the final price was actually 20 cheaper than the quote, which made me very happy! $15/shirt seems really expensive, other places cost around $10... the issue, however is quality. Many missed seams, loose threads, and poorly aligned cuffs and sleeves. It's like a child did a rush job on these shirts. Every single shirt has problems. I have never had an issue getting shirts tailored until this place. read more

My daughter ordered a dress online for her winter formal, and it was way too big and long for her. She brought it here and a few days later it was like magic! Fit perfectly!! I was highly impressed because the dress was a knit dress with a lace overlay, not the easiest item to alter. I will continue taking all my alternation needs to Erik's Alterations! read more

I've been using them for years. So, when I went to the original location and saw that it was gone, I totally panicked. But eventually figured out they moved to the 'Offices' area. Which is an odd place to have a business like that. My fear is they were pushed out by Irvine Co. so they could put in the wildly popular ice cream sandwich place. Four stars for the high quality work and speed, minus one star for the prices. I've gotten a number of things altered here, mainly dresses and rompers and almost every time, they've turned out perfect! Lan and her team knows what they're doing and I have come to trust them with anything I need to alter. Lan does not say much but is more concentrated on what you're there for which is getting your clothes altered and that is fine by me. She will get you in and out of the place quick, especially if you know what you want done. If you need an alteration, Lan will get it done by the time you need it. She also fixes any mistakes or mishaps like a detached button for free if you just bring the garment back in. Will not disappoint :) read more

I've been coming to Erik's alterations for about 3 years. I love the convenient location near trader joes at the UTC. At first, I assumed they only did small projects like pant hems. But, after baby #1 and #2, I needed a lot of adjusting on clothes from my expanding and shrinking body. The were able to handle all the projects I needed their help on in a beautiful and profession manner. The women are always so professional and honest about what can and cannot be done to clothes. I came on with work pants to get hemmed, and they suggested that I skip the hemming because the pants would shrink to the perfect length after 1-2 washes. I really appreciated the honestly. This past weekend, my husband and I asked them to make outdoor seat covers based on an existing cover. They knocked it out of the park, and exceeded all our expectations. Came in to get some dress pants hemmed. I needed them within the same day and the woman was very nice about it. It was $10 for the alteration which isn't bad considering I needed it last minute and it's conveniently located for UCI students. The pants came out great and I will definitely be coming back. I had three dresses that needed to be hemmed. I took them over on a Friday in hopes that one of them would be done for Saturday night and she was able to finish all three! I thought the stitching was good and she was ever able to find the right color of burgundy thread to match one of them. I thought the $15 price per dress was fair.
