I'm 5" tall and pretty much need all my pants in petite size or to be altered from regular length. I had a pair of bell bottom jeans from Gap and some bell bottom pants from Hollister that needed to be hemmed. Turn around was quick, prices were great, and the hem also looks wonderful. I came in to get my senior prom dress altered. I figured this would be a good place because it was close, convenient, had good reviews, and would be fairly priced considering it was across the street from a college campus. My dress had 2 layers and I wanted it to be a few inches shorter as well as getting the chest area sewn up a bit. My dress was clearly shorter in the back than the front and the chest area only had a few stitches, to the point where I could fit my whole hand under the stitching. I was extremely upset and disappointed, that my Senior Prom dress was ruined. If you live close to UCI, you are truly paying for convenience. If you have an important event and need something altered, I would not reccomend this place. read more

I've been coming to these guys for the last few years as they have always done a decent job at a fair price. I did have a hem on a dress they cut too short once and I had some pants hemmed that were still too long though we marked them while I was there. It's time for a change however. The last two times I have brought things in I've definitely paid a lot more than for similar items in the past. They don't have a price list, so they can pretty much charge whatever they want per item. I recently took in two shirts and questioned my price quote as it seemed high. I went ahead anyway because this place is very close to my house. When I went for my assigned pick-up it wasn't ready. And even when I called the next day they were still working on it. Now it will be a few days before I can get over to pick up and I'm paying a lot more than I have paid for shirt alterations in the past. It was good while it lasted. But I definitely recommend getting pricing before getting the clothing pinned and also calling before your assigned pickup time. As for me, I'll be on to greener, more distant pastures. read more

Reliable, efficient, & comfortable. I've been coming here for about 4 years & not once have I ever experienced a single problem here with the service or alterations. The main employee Lan, has always done a fantastic job on tapering and hemming my denim. She has always made my pants and hoodies fit perfectly to myself making it one of a kind. Yes, she is straight to the point and knows how to do her job. When you doubt her and start to question everything, you are only creating the problem in your mind. Bring clothing that you don't mind letting another person work with, it's as simple as that. The only reason people will say anything negative, is because they are expecting some fashion designer results as if they are going to Barney's to purchase a new pair of jeans for $300 handmade by Anna Wintour herself. I will stand by Erik's Alterations for as long as I possibly can and whether they read this or not, I recommend this place to anyone locally or who wants to make the drive. read more

Don't believe the good reviews. This place is absurdly disheveled. I left my new pants for shortening. I got there 2 days after they were supposed to be ready. They couldn't find them. There are literally dozens and dozens of pants, shorts etc. lying all over the place in huge mounds. There is basically no hanging system. They were cut but not finished. I came back in 10 minutes when they were finished. If you want your apparel treated like garbage, no filing system, this is the place for you. read more

Lan is fantastic! I've brought 3 suits in and the price are fair. Lan also does a great job when measuring you and takes your opinion into consideration. Needed some alterations done for some clothes I bought for my engagement shoot and a coworker recommended me to come here. I had a little trouble finding the place as there is construction going on, but the place is located upstairs in an office complex next to Target. The owner had me try on the clothes to figure out where the alterations were needed. I told her I needed before Monday and she was very accommodating, told me it would be done by Saturday after 3. The prices are very reasonable and her handiwork is great. The alterations were amazingly done and everything fits like a glove! I have been a customer at Erik's Alterations for ~20 years now. The owner, Lan, is a skilled tailor who can make any clothes fit and look better. The new location - on the 2nd floor of the post office and Target at UCI - is harder to find but it's well worth the elevator ride. I have brought everything from a $5000 Gucci dress to a $2500 Moncler down coat and she does a masterful job of making them fit like real couture pieces. read more

I was charged $25 to have a three layer trench coat with a storm flap shortened about 5 inches. I should have known from the low price, abrupt fitting process and the manner in which the woman brushed off my questions ("Are you sure it's only $25 since it's lined?" "Can you replicate the hem?"). If you take the integrity, durability and detail of your clothes seriously (and you really don't have to, so disregard if this doesn't apply to you), please steer clear of this place. I only went here out of convenience, and would advise They did a fine, slightly crooked, job on a pair of jeans for $15 - though they discarded the original hem. For more complicated jobs, they're completely out of their depth. I picked my trench coat up today (4 days later) and it looks like the bottom 6 inches of the coat was just trimmed off with a rotary cutter, the lining was ripped apart from the shell, and the "hem" was just folded over and sewn closed with a serger. All of the fabric edges were left raw and worse yet, the lining was not sewn back together - leaving it hanging down past the bottom of the coat. As soon as I noticed, I went back, put the coat on in front of the two women in the store and their jaws dropped. It was bad enough that they wordlessly took it back and fixed it on the spot, albeit with a safety pin, and a few sloppy stitches to sew the loose flaps of lining to each other. 2 stars: 1 compulsory star: at least it was only $25, though the coat is butchered. I added 1 star since I didn't have to fight them on the second band-aid repair on the first alteration, but the first alteration was completely unacceptable. They're weren't unfriendly about it - and I would never get irate at them given their limitations, but would not recommend anyone get anything but the most rudimentary alterations here. read more

I get so nervous leaving my jeans to be hemmed at Erik's Alterations. You just never know, if they'll turn out the way you wanted them to. When you walk in, you're casually ignored for about 10 minutes and then regarded with great disinterest. I learned after the first time when they hemmed my jeans too short, that I should go in with a specific inseam in mind, instead of trying them on and then having them measure it on you. That little chalk line they draw is the sloppiest work ever, and it just leaves you wondering how accurately they can hem your jeans to the length you require when there's about 3 different lengths marked up all over the bottom of your jeans. Now I try my jeans before I go, estimate how many inches need to be taken off, and subtract one. I go in and have them measure how long the original inseam is, and more often than not, they're wrong, but just ask for an inseam that's about however many inches off that you estimated at home. I am 5'3", 140 lbs, and I usually ask for 30" inseam, even though my legs are probably about two inches shorter than that, but you really, really need to leave some leeway for their carelessness, and poor tailoring skills, as well as enough to cover your shoes. No one likes high waters. Sometimes, they'll tell me the inseam is already 30", which its not because even in my shoes they're too long, so I would ask for a 29" or 28" inseam. The whole process may seem unnecessarily complicated to another person and all, but not more complicated than it seems to me to have to test drive another alterations shop. At least I have the comfort of having a system that seems to work for me so far. After the first fiasco, all my jeans have come back with the right length, even if the hem is all crooked, my jeans aren't anything designer or special, so I will continue bringing my jeans to them. However, I would most likely be forced to find another alterations shop for anything more complicated than jean hems. read more

I went to Eriks a few weeks ago on a friday evening to drop off a great BCBG dress that I want to wear for a wedding. It had a sleeve on one arm and a thin strap on the other, but I wanted to remove the sleeve so itwas just a 2 inch strap. The woman who helped me assured me that they could accomplish this. It was ready on Monday after 4pm as promised and it was absolutely perfect. I was hesitant to leave a $400 dress, but I couldn't be happier with the final result. I'll definitely be back! As a student at UCI, I come here whenever I need my pants hemmed because it's close an convenient. I have a shorter build and since pants are never made in my inseam, I usually need to get them hemmed to get a perfect fit. At first I was hesitant to get them done at an alteration place just because I don't usually trust someone else with my clothes, but it was my only option. The jobs that they've done are decent, but it always seems like the finished product is shorter than what it looked like when they were marked to get hemmed. 3 stars for the convenience for a UCI student, but no more because of their inconsistency. read more

I bought a clubbing dress that was way too long on me for cheap, and I was sure I could get it altered to fit right. The problem was I needed it that weekend. So I yelped a couple places and Erik's Alterations was right at UTC, very convenient for a student. I came in around 3pm, and asked if they could shorten the dress, but also get it done before they close. She told me to try on the dress so she could find the length that I wanted. After pinning up the part I wanted to cut off, she agreed, and told me to come back after 4pm. I paid $18, worth it for the quality and speed. I came here last week to get a dress hemmed - nothing fancy. The lady was so nice, and was done pinning the dress within about 5 minutes. It was $15. Now I can actually walk around in my dress! Extremely pleased with the service and the price. The only thing was finding the place at first - they are located upstairs above the 24 hr fitness now. I went here today to pick up my pants. I asked them to alter them to certain length, but they made a mistake and one side of the leg was shorter. When i first found out that my pants were off, my expectation as a customer, who already paid for the service, was to hear that they are sorry. However the lady's first comment was that it isnt their fault but my pants were made wrong. I dont care if my pants were off sized or not, i paid them to alter my pants to a certain length and i expect the pants to be altered in that way. To be honest, i could have just go this away but her excuses made me angry as if she was looking down at me since i am a college student . This might make me look very stuck up person, but trust me, everyone will get mad when someone isnt being responsible with their faults. read more

Great same day service available! I desperately needed a long dress hemmed within a few hours and Erik's Alterations was able to complete the job, no stress or sweat! The trickiest part was finding the place- it's on the 2nd floor of the University Center offices. The entrance to the stairway is to the right of Chipotle, next to the Optometry store. You'll then enter the building's doors and make your way up to the stairs on the left. The alteration office itself is quite small, with 2 stations to try on your items. They also have heels of different heights, in case you forget yours for good measure. They were reasonably priced for same day service and kept to their word of completing the job on time, which is very impressive given it was the midst of prom and wedding season. I wouldn't hesitate to come back or recommend to others! read more
